Also included on the new ATMOS Blu-ray is a screen saver type feature that plays behind the menu ... the visuals are a little reminiscent of the hologram at the 'Their Mortal Remains' exhibition, the audio is an ambient piece over 57-mins long.
may be the only one to say this but I'm glad they have brought the Atmos mix out as a separate release, £228 for the mega box set is out of my budget but £15 for this stand-alone release, well it's already ordered and I look forward to listening to it.
My standalone Blu-ray has arrived and, look closely, you will see that there’s an odd printing error in the booklet as the lyrics start on page 14 with 'The Great Gig in the Sky' followed by 'Money', 'Us and Them', 'Any Colour You Like', then 'Brain Damage' and 'Eclipse', next page it's 'Speak To Me', 'Breathe (In the Air)', 'On The Run' and 'Time' ... no big issue, I know the words by heart.
Is the left spine pattern with what looks like yellow bricks at 1:00 supposed to be a reference to Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Rainbow? It sure looks like a yellow brick road to me. I wonder why that would be put into the design when they've always tried to dispel that urban legend.
Well done Paul👌 We have the other surround versions ( sacd and blu-ray ( blue ray purchased by itself by a seller parting the immersion set out) and held off for this stand alone BR atmos addition. We do not have an atmos system and probably never will, but wanted this as a collector as it is my all time favorite album. All the very best to you and yours~🤝 Us- out her in the sticks....
My assumption is that it's either due to rights issues with the Japanese 7" SACD release from earlier this year (given that Japan doesn't have a mechanical licensing law, which is one reason why a lot of Japanese-oriented music releases never see international distribution even if they're based on western properties and/or have large international fanbases) or the fact that Pink Floyd never actually endorsed the quadrophonic version, since Alan Parsons didn't like it.
@@elijahmgibbs I believe so, yes, hence why I mentioned rights issues being a possibility (since the rights for a box set release might not be identical to the rights for a standalone release, kinda like how insert songs in shows might be cleared for broadcast but not for home media).
Now I know what to expect when it arrives and as ever very well presented. I was hoping that this release would also include Paraon's original Quad mix if it had of done I would have sold my Immersion Boxset as I only brought that for that purpose it is better than the 5.1 mix Guthrie did for the 30th anniversary. Now I was led to believe that Guthrie had done a new 5.1 and Atmos mix for the new Boxset and they are on this standalone Blu Ray. I hope he has otherwise I think I may have wasted my money.

SACD's have DSD 64 Audio on them while a Blu Ray Audio has His res 192 kHz 24 bit PCM Audio. DSD and PCM are 2 completely different digital audio formats ! I see that in recent times the big record companies are releasing more and more hi res PCM audio but instead they should release music on DSD 256 as a digital audio file in .dsf ! I know there is discussion if DSD sounds better than PCM, but a digital audio format like DSD that emulates (!) analogue audio can't be bad, or? My 2 cents...
I hope that for a WYWH set they remaster the opening live set from Live at the Empire Pool with SOYCD, Raving and Drooling, and You’ve Got to Be Crazy, and throw in the encore of Echoes, the only good sounding anything from Continu/Ation off of that set of The Early Years, on a second CD.
@@lennonrichards So why then show the other 5.1 SACD, BD and DVD standalones and in the box set in the video? You've not thought through your argument have you! LoL
@@lennonrichards Yes. So, you have just verified the relationship to my comment... I am failing to understand your original retort to my post? You can appreciate my comment in relation to subject matter completeness, that there were some other hi-res DSOTM that were not mentioned. That's surely easy enough to grasp. 🤣
So as Lenny has unwittingly conceeed and destroyed his own silly argument, for everyone else it's easy to understand for completeness of DSOTM hi-res releases there was 5.1, stereo and quad version discs in the Immersion box set too to add to what Paul showed in his video.
I think "On the Run" might be the only song I'd love hear via 5.1 That and maybe "Time" ( the bells and clocks and that...) but I don't know I'd want to pay the price for it. I have the album in pristine quality in its sleeve upstairs when I wan to fully immerse (no pun intended) myself in it.
The front cover art for this edition is atrocious. The Quad mix is the most interesting mix outside of the traditional stereo, and yet they've brushed it under the carpet. You'll either have to go back to the Immersion boxset to find it (warning: a lot of Blu-Ray discs in this set are borked with disc rot) or wait until the 51st anniversary edition next year ;) and hope they include it there
Yes you do. You need an audio receiver that decodes the Atmos signal, then a load of speakers to utilise the surround experience, including either installing ceiling fitted speakers, or speakers that "throw the sound " above you. It's currently not cheap to buy and not great if you don't have the space for all the speakers, or live somewhere you may disturb your neighbours! One hopes that with time it will get cheaper and possibly a bit more discreet, speaker wise.
Does anybody want to guess how much the boys have made from its great album. it has kept themselves in the public eye for 50 years. pity they cannot do a decent album or two on their own...
Ten million different versions of the same album, the ironic thing is that parts of the album is 3rd gen degraded tapes from all the bouncing of tracks when they were making the album. There’s really no need for anything other than a nice vinyl copy of it, it doesn’t sound that great if one listens closely. The music however was always great.

Please do the single CD unboxing as well.
I couldn't figure out how to get the blu-ray out of the package, so this helped me.

Ridiculous that they didn't include Parsons' quadraphonic mix (which, to me, is far more expansive and discrete than Guthrie's 5.1 mix).
They aré probably waiting for the next "ultimate edition"

5.1's the same, Atmos is new
@@danpretty970That will be OK as long as the Atmos mix is entirely new and he never used his original 5.1 mix to make it.

I disagree! Pink Floyds music sounds best in Multichannel/ATMOS. Very immersive! It's almost as if it were made for this format.
@Bull_Moose23 I agree. I own the SACD version, which is awesome!! I need to get this one, too.
