  • In this language challenge, two Arabic speakers, Sora and Sherouk, compete against two Persian speakers, Sara and Shahrzad.
We explore the similarities between the two languages with a list of words, phrases, and sentences. Both languages have influenced one another and there are many common words between them. In this video, half the words are Arabic, and the other half are Persian.

Arabic is a Central Semitic language and the official language of Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Malta (Maltese Arabic), Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, SADR, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania (Zanzibar), Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Arabic is also the liturgical language of Islam. Arabic has influenced some European languages, such as Spanish and to a lesser extent Portuguese, Valencian, Catalan, Sicilian, Greek and Bulgarian. Arabic has also great influenced Persian, Turkish, Spanish, Maltese, Urdu, Kashmiri, Kurdish, Bosnian, Kazakh, Bengali, Hindi, Malay, Maldivian, Indonesian, Pashto, Punjabi, Tagalog, Sindhi and Hausa and some languages in parts of Africa. Arabic has borrowed words from other languages including Greek and Persian.
Persian (Farsi) is an Indo-European language and classified as Indo-Iranian. Persian is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, as well as some other parts of the Middle East, Central and South Asia. While Arabic has influenced Persian, Persian has also had an influence on Arabic, and in this video we explore both influences.

I actually believe the opposite. At least where I live, Persian and Arab, and sometimes even South Asian countries are lumped into a "brown" category with no distinct differences in these extremely diverse groups. It's like in the case of assuming Chinese people can understand Korean and Japanese because they "must be close enough." I like that these languages are so similar but also that they are different and beautiful in their own rights. They're so diverse and it's important to acknowledge that.

TheDennys21 the term "Persian" is acceptable because the word "farsi" comes from middle Persian "pārsig" and has changed after the Arab invasion because (as you saw in this video) the Arabs don't have the "p" sound. So "fārsi" is just an Arab influenced word. Real modern Persian would be "pārsi".

    Important!
at 4:07 Fehrest is Fahras فهرس in Arabic! I am shocked they didn't guess it!!
at 6:18 Bala بلى is a Fus-ha word (standart Arabic) and every Arab knows it! Not only Kuwaitis or Iraqis + the two Persian girls mentioned "catastrophe/trouble/bad thing" which is absolutely right and tricky!! the word Balaa بلاء in Arabic means "trouble/hardship"! Amazing how the girls guessed both words! The only difference between the two words is the long A: Bala & Balaa.
at 9:21 the Persian girl also guessed it right as the word الفردية comes from the word فرد which means "individual", also means odd number.
Also the pregnant girl made a good point, in Fus-ha Arabic we don't have the letter چ as an individual letter, but we just use two letters to pronounce it ت + ش = تش. Not only in Iraq and Egypt the word چکش is used. We use it in Jordan/Palestine/Lebanon & Syria but we pronounce it a bit different like "Jakoosh or Shakoosh". Also we don't have the letter گ is Fus-ha Arabic, but in many dialects it is used. In Egypt for instance, they replace ج with گ.
Interesting video! Thank you for it!

After watching such videos it is not possible not to wonder why do people hate each other, why do we go to wars... Human species is so crazy! We are all the same, basically the only thing that separates us is language and some irrelevant customs. But most people that hate have never been out of their countries and met other people, their hatred is based on nothing but prejudice, if people would travel more and meet other people and cultures they would realize how similar we all are. Love to watch this! :)

original kashmiri is whole derived from sanskrit with some local words,.
farsi words polluted it later after forceful imposition of arabic script and farsi language by invading rulers.
Urdu is few hundred year old language with farsi words, its grammar(which is most important) is copied from hindi.
This worked because old persian has roots from vedic sanskrit.,

All I can say is, there is no need to argue over something like this. We have much more important things in the Middle East to focus on. Such pointless trivial "issues" are created to sew division between people and nations. Let's be smart and not fall for it. We should be united! No nation can call itself great if it cannot be friends with its neighbours. Much love to our Arab neighbours!

I am Arabic from Jordan 🇯🇴, greeting to Irani and Persian people 🇮🇷, your culture is beautiful
Sadly politics has made Arabs and Persians enemies, but we shouldn't be like this, we are neighbors since time immemorial we should come together we have many similar things, we contributed to each other civilizations, we should forget our differences of the past

We Americans say the World is getting smaller every day. 😁🌍🗺️
Jordan is a fairly small place. I have a question for you?
How common is it for a Jordanian to turn on a radio or T.V., or something else that gets its signals transmitted through the air,
And pick up a station that is not in Arabic? A station that comes from a different Country in a different language?

Love Jordan 🇯🇴, in Iran we pronounce it "Ordon" اُردُن
I am curious to know how the people of Jordan pronounce it, and whether the Persian pronunciation is closer to the original name of the country or English?

Perhaps half of the vocabulary used in daily life in Persian are borrowed from Arabic or have Arabic roots. But as Arabic and Persian belong to two completely different language families, even the borrowed words are modified to fit the Persian language structure. Although there are a lot of similarities in the Vocabulary, Persian is a lot more closely related to English and German than to Arabic. And Arabic also is closer to Hebrew and other Semitic languages. They are both *beautiful languages and worth learning.*

A Persian speaker with no knowledge of English will have an easier time identifying Arabic words and even the overall intention of phrases than if they were to hear an English speaker

Both languages have influenced each other in some way, but obviously Arabic had a more profound impact on Farsi...not only on Persian but also on many other languages as well, and the Romance languages are living proof of that. Thanks for taking the time to having people getting in touch together in such a joyful way.

"Arabic had a more profound impact on Farsi": It terms of quantity maybe, but in terms of quality and intellectual level, Persian has more impact. From the word of religion ("Din") to art and architecture. But yea Arabic is indeed a powerful language in terms of vocabulary construction.

Actually, it was the Persians who gave Arabic a modern structure and grammar. That's why multitudes of Arab words actually stem from Persian rather than a Semitic root.

    • @Xdxd012
      @Xdxd012 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

kittens😻 the Persians wrote the Arabic structure and grammar they didn't give us the grammar how were we speak then without grammar ? 😂, Arabic grammar, structure and even the alphabet came from the Aramaic "our ancestors language", btw the Persian words in Arabic are less than 10 words while 12 million words from semitic root.
