One guy who didn't want to be in Megadeth, one who auditioned for Megadeth and failed due to age and the other who's dream is to be in Megadeth... good mix
Dude, each of these men have exerted a huge influence, and inspiration on me for decades but if there's one band that I am entirely and wholly unable to enjoy it would be ABBA. Alot has to do with negative associations that music can't be separated from, but yeah. I fuckin hate ABBA.
Megadeth in late 80s, Loomis dodged a big drug infused bullet there. A 16 year old would have been very impressionable and kinda glad they didnt let him do the same mistakes.
Its very simple guys. We want a Cacophony tour with Jeff playing in the shoes of Jason and also covering some Perpetual burn songs and some Marty's solo songs as well as the cacophony stuff. And some money should go to Jason as well. MAKE IT DONE!!!!
Daaaaammnnnn... I was at that show in Chicago Loomis is talking about !! SO not only did I meet Marty and Jason, but I was rubbing shoulders with Jeff. sheesh !!
i've watched this interview 4 times and every time i heard the Jeff Loomis - Megadeth story i said to myself that Megadeth lost a huge opportunity when they turned down Jeff. But after thinking of this a few times I came to the conclusion that it really was for the best because Jeff really walked around the pothole of drugs that Megadeth was. Basically keeping Jeff away from drugs.
Carp Tiberiu It really was for the best. Though I do like to imagine how Megadeth would have been with Jeff, or Dimebag, or even Jeff Waters from Annihilator.
You think that's crazy? Imagine if they would have got Criss Oliva from Savatage. Every record would have been untouchable with him. Guy was a monster and probably would have even been a better fit than Marty. Exuded excellence in every way.
+nblax41 Chris Adler is the drummer of Megadeth now lol. Jeff and Chris would have annihilated together. Always thought Willie Adler and Jeff would mesh well too.
Amott seems like a very soft-spoken guy. I feel like Jeff and Michael have complimentary personalities. This collaboration is going to be so sick. I can't wait to see you guys in Germany!
I like that they used the title "virtuoso" instead of shredder. That implies that they're actually musicians/artists and not just a track runner running a race with his fingers on the guitar. I love the fast stuff, but if you listen with an open mind to the album "Introduction" by Marty, you'll hear what I'm talking about. I also dig Carcass and Conquering Dystopia. So, this was a fun video. Thanks!
Michael Amott no es un guitarrista tan rápido y veloz como Jeff Loomis y Marty, pero es un guitarrista con un estilo único, y gracias a eso es que Michael es un talentoso gran guitarrista.
It truly breaks my heart to watch this video, Ive always loved his voice and understood the darkness of his lyrics ,Your in Metal heaven with all the other greats jamming out RIP
Love everything that Michael & Jeff said. Love them two. Humility & respect is an attribute - Being jealous & cutting down what others love is just pathetic. It is a self reflecting mirror of what you wish you were.
I really love their thoughts about playing fast. I am really impressed with how they explained how the speed can never be the basis of being a good guitarist.. Now , I am not pressured to play fast, :)
lam neth Amott is highly underrated. I wouldn't base judgment on his High speed shred ability or any lack thereof (not saying you're doing that necessarily) but rather on his tonality and composition skills. He is one of the great metal players out there for a lot of reasons.
Matt Adams yea hes a great player, i enjoyed his work in carcass although i much prefer bills leads, but hes in the company of two of the best guitarists in metal
@@ermguitar2052 Well yeah but it's more important to jeff than it was to marty. He was just some random kid to marty, can't expect him to remember it as some pivotal moment
Dear audio engineer, next time throw a HPF on the mains to cut the band rehearsing in the background. I thought I was having a brain hemorrhage for a sec.
Michael Amott just has that Murtough, Lethal Weapon, "I'm too old for this shit." attitude throughout this interview. It's really cool though, Loomis and Friedman add incredibly detailed accounts and really make the interview feel more informal and casual. Hearing all three of their opinions on Metal and the contemporary scene regarding guitarists is a nice insight too. Plus, I didn't even know that Marty has or had worked with Shining, considering that I've been an immense fan of Jørgen Munkeby's style and playing since I heard his saxophone pieces on Ihshan's After.
+VoyagerAbove guys comin up into certain businesses, think they need to be fucked up constantly because those around them are and they perceive their idols to do the same too. it seems like if they can escape that train of thought before they reach 30, they can get away with health longer but most seem to already be perma-fucked by the time they're 30 and start realizing better ways of living. these are just thoughts of course, not conclusions.
Agree about the lack of booze and other drugs, but also Marty lived in Japan for quite a while, where the food is generally healthier and the portion size is better (i.e. much smaller) than in the US. That would have helped probably.
gained so much more respect from Marty after seeing this and everyone else as well, very influential people great compassion for what they do and a seemingly wonderful respect for new artist also
I see people in comments blaming amott... emm guys, maybe he dont do 20 notes per second, but he has a great feeling, maybe the guitarist with more feeling in death metal
Geezus, imagine if Marty and Jeff were in a band together😳 Two of the most insanely talented guitarists of all time...and thats saying something, Metal music is crammed FULL of incredible guitarists
Amott doesnt shred, marty did 20 years ago, Loomis can shred. My highlight was friedman surprised about Loomis playing direct, new school bruh. Props on ammot , always sourounded by better guitar lead players in Arch Enemy, just as Mustaine did, nothing wrong.
I was at the (PINKs Garage) MEGADETH show in Honolulu, saw Marty & Dave walk right passed me, I met Dave in like 2011 in Temecula at the Apple store, I was trying to let him see my guitar 🎸 videos😁 he was like hold on just a min.. Lol
That's right, it's about the music and how you express yourself not about speed soloing which is cool, but it's about creating those cool memorable riffs 🤘
Imagine being with other two guitar gods, followed by thousands... If I were one of them, I would be shitting my pants and thinking "Holy fuck, what else I'll say next that won't tear shit down?" They even tried to break the ice with some jokes and stuff. But honestly, if the atmosphere was already bad, just take a look again at the place for the interview: I think it'd have been better to record this at the bathroom.
I agree, the best. Michael said way back he was sick of hearing how great Heartwork was, because he still puts out new stuff, and all anyone can rave about is his old stuff.
I'm 27 and the older i get the less i find shredding interesting. Unless it complements a song, dont do it. "it" being any musical idea/section. That's how i feel now days. At the end of the day it's not about you, its about the song.
WhyMeWhyYou22 Thats why a lot of people like Micheal's playing. He's not a technical player, but rather he focuses on the individual notes and showing why they matter which isn't always easy.
Wow! Thank you, Jeff!! :o
Nick you are an amazing guitar player, you are now one of my favorite guitar players, and I know about just you two weeks ago.
Nick Johnston I looked you up on facebook after watching this interview ! You're a great guitar player man ! Keep it up !
¿Marty being 52 years old?
This guy never ages.
Awesome video!!!
Wow..Didn't expect Rob to show up :D
Fancy seeing you here, Rob
Rob Chapman It's Rob!
HI ROB

After a few years, jeff loomis was asked to join Megadeth, but this time he didn't want to be in Megadeth:)
Megadeth in late 80s, Loomis dodged a big drug infused bullet there. A 16 year old would have been very impressionable and kinda glad they didnt let him do the same mistakes.

irmasil3 Great Idea! Now if we can only convince Marty and Jeff!
You might as well ask Marty to play Megadeth songs lmao
Dude yes!
Highly Recommened Petrucci Cooley
PLEASE!!!
They can shred but... they can also do a Maybelline commercial.
Loomis, looks like a young Hetfield here especially from a distance
yea he is.when you look side of it xD

Ryan Day92 he sometimes looks like a middle age Jeff hanneman too
@@dadiopimp and Chris Broderick too

really ? that`s awesome
What jason Becker was there?
I love when the people being interviewed are just left to talk and not be interrupted by the interviewer. Well done Amit!
Marty looks the same as he did in the early 1990s good to see !!!!!!!
38:48 Michael is peering straight into your soul!
By the end of August, I will have seen all 3 perform live. Can't wait.
Jeff looks so stoked to be in the same room with Marty Friedman
i've watched this interview 4 times and every time i heard the Jeff Loomis - Megadeth story i said to myself that Megadeth lost a huge opportunity when they turned down Jeff. Carp Tiberiu It really was for the best. Though I do like to imagine how Megadeth would have been with Jeff, or Dimebag, or even Jeff Waters from Annihilator.
Carp Tiberiu when Marty started they had slowed down
They got Marty, that's enough
Loomis is too good for megadeth, so is kiko and broderick.
You think that's crazy? Imagine if they would have got Criss Oliva from Savatage. Every record would have been untouchable with him. Guy was a monster and probably would have even been a better fit than Marty. Exuded excellence in every way.
1:31 marty asking jeff "you auditioned for megadeth?" hahaha his facial reaction tho
+patrick cruz I was surprised by that too. Wonder if he knows Jeff turned them down a few years back too.
+patrick cruz Jeff loomis got the audition for megadeth when he was 16 y.o. Holyshit...

+Gregory Aliano not as much as marty and nick though!
+nblax41 Jeff was about to write/record his solo record thats what he said
Mike Amott doesn't get enough props for having some of the best sounding vibrato ever
100% Agree ! His intonation is amazing !
Very melodic as well.

It’s Jedi Master
I believed Marty knew all those things about Jeff lol
marty you sly curly headed bastard
😂
Hats off to Amott, "Neil Young, natural expression." Embraces ALL, period. Gotta respect it.
What a great interview. I always marvel at how universal music is and how it brings such diverse players together.
Such humble dudes.. If I ever make it to their status, I can only hope to obtain a *shred* of their enlightenment!
That was so great!! Huge fan of all 3 of them. A long-form interview like this with 3 guitar gods is a dream come true.
Skyharbor/Keshav Dhar mentioned at 26:00 :D
Every young musician should watch this. Wise words from wise men.
It truly breaks my heart to watch this video, Ive always loved his voice and understood the darkness of his lyrics ,Your in Metal heaven with all the other greats jamming out RIP
See martys face change when michael brought up perpetual burn and Jason becker.
Could you explain what happened? Why did his face change
Arshad A Jason has ALS and now he can't even move a finger...Fucking shame because he's probably one of the best guitarists that ever lived.

What is that fucking vibrational noise around 12:00? Sounds awful.
And nice to hear Marty give props to Republica. I loved that band.

Awkward how Marty doesn't remember anything Jeff tells him lol.
