I already knew Haslam was a good person with good values. Yet the dedication towards supporting sufferers of mental illness and promoting mental health goes deep, for me at least. I can't speak for any other sufferer but myself, but thank you, Chris. Your attention is enough, yet you go further. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I’m a recovering drug addict with only 2 weeks clean, just got kicked out from rehab at 11:30am today for behaviour. First video I watch on TH-cam cause I can’t sleep right now, 12pm. I stopped believing in coincidence. His always been my favourite, always an inspiration to me. Always going above and beyond. Keeping it real, always being true to himself. Ive got my Shane cross poster on my wall since I was young and my fallens shoes signed from Chris when I got the chance to see him face to face for a brief moment at slaughter at the opera. I always skate through Martin place and at the top of the 10set, I sprinkle my board with the water from fountain that Chris’s board went into. A Legendary hero.
The first person to sit next to me on Monday at a 12 steps meeting was named Ben, the last person who got asked to do the serenity pray was named Ben, I went to another meeting last night and the first persons hand I shook was named Ben, then today on my way back to the area from getting kicked out of rehab I decide to swap trains at Wollongong and to wait for the express rather than staying on the all stops. It’s was a 25 min wait and it wasn’t going to save me that much time. I decided to go for a little walk when I would normally have a ciggy. Was thinking of walking on the other side of the train line cause I thought there would be a more shops. Some reason I just started walking keeping an eye out for somewhere to charge my phone. Seen a restaurant thought I’ll keep walking. Seen a young lady jumped out of her car, just asked her if she knew anywhere I could charge my phone like a pub, she replied you could come recharge it at our church, she was part of a band like Hillsong. So we walked 1min and went into this Church and the first guy comes up to me shakes my had and his name is Ben, welcomes me to join them. One of 6 people there tells me his story in front of everyone how he almost gave his unborn away cause he didn’t have the funds to support another one already have two and being an ex drinker and gambler. After asks if it’s alright to pray for me. I let the know my situation. Straight away they all circle me and put their hand on me saying each their own prayers fast and loud to help get better. I decided to wait for the next train thinking it wouldn’t be much after, when I checked the train wasnt for another hour. They played their songs for me I just sat and listened for a bit then got involved on the drums a bit. Caught the trains back to area. Get home gave parents big hugs. Had dinner washed up to try to keep parents happy cause I stressed them out today with my situation. Jumped in bed before 11. Laid down try to sleep until 12. Check out TH-cam and scroll little bit see Chris and clicked on straight away. And his talking about Ben and I see rip Ben. My name is Ben and I believe in fate. Fall Rise Grow Believe .

Thanks for this Chris! I’ve been a pharmacist for thirty-five years and skating for forty-five years. Wow brilliant. I myself have managed to come out the other side of some dark anxiety about 4 years ago. I was so bad that at one point I was to scared to even get out of my bed room and felt I could go on with life, and I'm a 42 year old man. With a lot of support from family and friends and several shrinks I managed to change my outlook on life and also massively change my life and my life style. I took up many hobbies to release those happy endorphins. Skating was one of them. I am a begginer but getting better and it brings me great joy. Do what makes u happy no matter what anyone thinks as long as it's safe and not hurtful to anyone else, it will bring u great happiness again. ✌️

Chris Haslam hit the nail on the head, we really need to start addressing mental health the way we do physical health. There's such a stigma when it comes to mental health nowadays thanks to things like the media portraying it in the wrong ways. It's okay to admit that you're not doing well mentally or struggling and to seek the help you deserve.

i saw Chris at Paralel in Barcelona a couple years back. I am 29 so grew up with him skating, he looked super different in person though so didn't realise it was him HAHA. I mean so many skaters these days have beards, wear slim jeans and beanies and He was wearing New Balance shoes so I just thought he was another guy doing switch heel sex change.
I also didn't realise he disappeared off the scene a little. Shoulda spoken to him, he seems so nice.
Praying for you, Chris.
Haslam is the best .. on every human level.. great mind, kind heart, gnarly af.. How rad to have him represent skateboarding.. DWYW
Mental health issues can happen to ANYONE! I feel all there pain as I've battled my own demons for many years now. It's not easy, but there's help available and many others going through very similar things.
