*Sigh* after careful review, I noticed a slight error with this video. There is a portion of the first segment that the "Agents" title card is missing. I am not sure why this happened as it is there on my timeline. I'll be sure to double check this next time I upload.

Yeah!!! I should’ve mentioned this. But it seems like LEGO has finally completely moved away from the mentality that traditional violence is bad for kids.
There was a time when LEGO refused to even create gray bricks… like? So kids couldn’t make tanks out of their castle sets… Star Wars at first completely changed that. And I guess that opened more room for them to make themes like agents.

@@BrickFleet people also forget about the Lone Ranger theme and they had battlepack union soldiers with traditional Lego rifles. I thought that was the coolest thing. Hell the Roman figures in the figure packs made me so content with the idea that this could imply historical themes. While I get history is also filled with dark matter, kids at that age are more about the glamor of the knights and their fabled chivalry. I mean we have Lego Knights already. All I’m saying is Lego should make a history theme. Every two years the theme is different but within the banner. I just want Lego Romans. I bought so many of the figure packs just to enjoy them.

I think the a big reason why Ninjago succeeded where the others failed is because it had a TV show. It became Gen Z’s TMNT in a way. Even outside lego fans it’s nostalgic as you’ll see “long before time had a name” pop up in non-lego memes every now and then. It clearly connected in a way the others failed to and that’s probably because you had a multi season show allowing actual characterization and development.

the thing with ninjago is that it was originally just as unique as these other themes. the ninjas fighting skeletons and then snakes and so on was cool at first. the problem is that it's the only original theme that they still make. if they at least made other themes that were just as creative as the ones mentioned then ninjago being used so much wouldn't be a huge problem.

    • @ToaKoran
      @ToaKoran ปีที่แล้ว +37

That really is the issue. LEGO was prevalent in making original, exciting, fun themes in the past, and to this day they have an extensive supply of original themes that are well-loved, and deeply-missed.
Space Police, Blacktron, Futuron, Spyrius, M-Tron, Exploriens,Insectoids, UFO, Ice Planet, Johnny Thunder/Adventurers, Alpha Team, Drome, Rock Raiders, EXO-Force, Aquazone, Aqua Raiders, Atlantis, Power Miners, Agents, the list just goes on.
So many amazing themes, so much fun potential, and yet we don't see any of it, anymore... LEGO feels like it's abandoned originality and playability as we see just licenses and sets that are overly-complicated to build, yet get boring after just a couple of hours.
I had the entire Aqua Raiders line as a kid, I was lucky to get every set at once for Christmas as my only gifts that year, and I couldn't have wanted more. I kept them all in a blue tote (and still have that tote, albeit now it's full of MEGABLOKS), and every day when I had free time I pulled the sets out and built a new story with them. I made custom sea vessels and vehicles, upgraded the base, created monstrosities out of the sea creature parts, and just had a blast. If I were given that same fortune with things from LEGO today in their place, I legitimately think I'd get tired of them. Modern LEGO just isn't fun, anymore, and the creativity is gone. There are too many small parts you can't build much with used in sets leading to alt builds being very limited, and almost no play features aside for stud launchers, which just aren't fun for a kid when they fire a projectile they can't fine later as opposed to a huge black missile.
I have no clue if I'm in the minority or not, but I only ever get sets from the 2000's and backwards, because things from that time just felt so much more engaging and focused-on-fun. Now, it feels like padding sets with detail making them more expensive while decreasing play value with no features, or just making huge display sets that do nothing but gather dust. It feels so soulless compared to the past, and it's depressing to see.

I used to love the lego ninjago series. I’d watch it like every day and I had a lot of the sets. I think lego messed up by making the lego ninjago movie, or at least changing the ninjago sets to have the same design as in the movie. This was confusing as now you didn’t really know if the old story continued and if the characters really were the same. Were they like in the old series or like in the movie? Lego (i assume) realized they made a mistake and ended the series and just made some kind of lego ninjago legacy thing that was just sets that were remakes of old sets. Now there have been rumors for a new lego ninjago series in 2023 but I don’t think I’ll watch it. The nostalgia feel is gone and I am still angry at lego for that.

The themes are different despite having similarities here and there. EXO-Force had a very specific design aesthetic with their mechs often having thin upper arms and legs that thickened out to a bell bottom-esque design, and always had a windowed cockpit on the torso. The remake of the Thunder Raider I feel is the closest to EXO-Force Ninjago has come, but otherwise the designs are very oriental and samurai-like in their design language, and these days they even have heads which EXO-Force never did. They were mechs first and foremost, never full-blown giant/super robots.
This of course isn't me trying to convince you to like either series, you're free to like and dislike what ever you wish, I just wanted to explain the differentiation between them that does make them different in their overall design aesthetics.
Overall, I find EXO-Force's design aesthetic more appealing, personally, they just needed to be built more structurally-sound.

@LookedSpy637 that isn’t what happened to ninjago. Ninjago had its classic designs for the first 7 seasons of the show and then when the movie came out and changed the designs, the 8th season of the show changed the classic designs to the movie designs. They characters were the exact same, the only thing that changed was the designs. And no, the show did not end after that. The original ninjago saga ended in 2022 with its 15th season.

I was born 1999 so when I was old enough to get obsessed with Lego lots of these sets were in their end faze and I only got my hands on one or two from each theme. I loved Atlantis and was obsessed with the Egypt theme (forgot the name) until it retired after it’s one and only wave. Fell in love with ninjago and to this day still pick up a set or two from each wave. How the time flies.

Back then I couldn't flip more than a few pages though their catalog at a time without finding a set I wanted. Nowadays I rarely find a set I really want. I think after getting reacquainted with lego after I scooped up that recent Humble Bundle sale on lego games a few weeks ago, and going "y'know this isn't hitting like physical blocks" then promptly buying a $30 set, researching current discourse, and finding some of my old lego collection within my parents stuff. It really seems like ironically 2020 when they explicitly started marketing to adults was when it got stale. I don't need some sweaty $500 set to fuel a storyline, and obvi that's where the money is and it seems like the effort it put these days (the 'ol ronald mcdonald playbook) but Idk I'm sure kids today will have the same fondness for dreamzzz that we did Power Miners, or Atlantis (I agree those were peak lego for my childhood, although some of the early 2000s Lego rebound sets like dino attack were cool to me as well) hope we get reboots (for my own nostalgia) but just some good/non-convoluted original sets in general. I am thinking of the time I missed out on legos roughtly 2010-11ish? to 2024 monster fighters, ultra agents, and hidden side seem to peak my interest so we'll see.

@@jadesded I agree with pretty much all of this. I’ve been here from 2008-2014 and then came back 2018 to current time.
“Black box” adults welcome sets were just the start of LEGO filling up a lot of their set slots in a release year with really stale sets. Most of those sets aren’t really meant for anybody who’s been here for a long time, just the people who started during COVID and might’ve been around in the Gen-Y and Gen-X eras of LEGO. It doesn’t appeal much to Gen-Z mostly because of the financial barrier and subject matter just being extremely pacifying and boring. I can say for sure, even though I am 20 and technically in the “adult” category that this line of products isn’t made for me.
At the same time, I can’t really be mad at the LEGO Group for making the decision to release these types of products because it does pull in new people to the hobby and we always want that so people can take the community more seriously.
The thing I noticed is, I see a divide where products are hardly appealing to the current 16-25 year old audiences that are enthusiasts.

I remember as a kid realizing that all these legos were just remakes of the sets from the 90s. I thought I had it all figured out lol 🧠

The Thunderdriller, to this day, is the best designed Lego set. Lego hasn't really come close to it besides some Ninjago mechs (Jay's Titan Mech literally as an Exoforce mech)
