      Yh I agree to an extent lots of the Ninjago stuff like Prime empire, Master of the mountain and Seabound easily could have been a new game/sci-fi theme, fantasy theme and a Atlantis theme but with none of the popularity of Ninjago how successful would they have been? And it's hard to complete with all the licensed IP they have now and with how popular/guarantee money makers what's the need I could only really see castle, classic space and pirates returning all of the other power miner, space nonsense isn't gonna cut it.
      There's multiple reasons Ninjago has beaten out the likes of many Original LEGO IP the set's are some of the best from vehicles of jets and mechs to astonishing temples and modular buildings, the show itself has some interesting lore and characters

    I think the concept for the third wave was interesting, but the sets’ reliance on “fire and water” gimmicks and related equipment was odd and limiting towards the designs, I wish we got something more like “journey to the center of the earth”, with a massive underground jungle the team would have to venture through.

    • @neuronoc.7343
      @neuronoc.7343 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Maybe what would've been really interesting was if there was sort of a mix of both the lava theme and the underground jungle theme. Like, there's rivers of lava, but there's also rock-based jungles and what not, with trees that have rocky bark and crystalline sap and fruit. Not to mention the insanely possibile diversity of new rock monsters living in the rock jungle.

    Personally, I think the third wave was very disappointing. While lime and blue do work well together, it doesn't compare to lime and orange. Plus, lime and orange was THE color scheme to represent Power Miners as a whole, so when they changed it, I was immediately repulsed. The Power Miner outfits were also a let down, they were only in one color and everyone had the same outfit. Felt much more bland compared to the first wave's different, very detailed and personalized designs. But my biggest issue was with the new Rock Monsters. The black color did not look good on them at all and the lack of black on the heads didn't help either. Major step down from the first wave's Rock Monsters.
    So in conclusion, I'm honestly not surprised as to why wave 3 did badly

    As a big fan of Rock Raiders and Life On Mars, it really wasn’t surprising that Lego canceled the line, sales slump or no. Wait a few years and they’ll do another one especially since I don’t think they can fold the industrial mining aesthetic into Ninjago like they did with Exo-Force, Vikings, Knights, Ninjas, and Alpha Team.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thing is, TLG's business model has significantly changed. They've committed fully to franchise and "brand identity" marketing now. If they can't fold something into one of their existing big-name franchises or nab a relevant license, chances are they're just not going to bother at all.

      @SineN0mine3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VestedUTuberpeople keep saying that LEGO has changed, but they offer so much more than they used to. They obviously focus a bit more on licenced sets now that they used to but there's always LEGO branded themes alongside it.
      Maybe they're not getting as much love as they used to (especially from fans) but they're still there. LEGO is continually trying new stuff. Creator, Ninjago and City are still running strong and in the past decade they've never not had at least 3-4 non-licensed themes available.
      I think if you worked for LEGO you'd probably run out of ideas for themes if you had to churn out a dozen at a time.
      Having only a few at a time means that each theme can feel unique when compared to the other themes on the shelves as well as the themes that came before it.
      I'm not a huge fan of the way Space has been rolled in to City but a lot of people love it. I'm sure in a few years or so they'll have a whole new space theme and maybe that one will be more to my taste.
      There's way more options for LEGO now than there's ever been before and as much as I miss the themes from when I was a kid, I always look forward to seeing what they'll do next.
      There's been a few duds of course, but that's bound to happen when they're trying to stand out and be interesting.

      Everything you said is correct, but it's not necessarily mutually exclusive with LEGO's refocusing towards branding as opposed to more "generic" themes. You can definitely trace a gradual shift from the 90s and early 2000s with more "instant story, just add plot" themes like Adventurers, Rock Raiders, Alpha Team and Life On Mars that start to focus more on having a set background story and recognizable characters, into the fully story-driven themes of the late 2000s and early 2010s like Monster Fighter, Ultra Agents and Dino Attack, and then into full-blown multimedia franchises like Ninjago. All while also gradually expanding their licensed theme selection in ways that technically overlap with classic generic themes.
      It's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that LEGO doesn't really do generic or even semi-generic "instant story, just add plot" themes outside of City, Friends, and the occasional Creator or Icons offering anymore, so you really shouldn't expect them. If you want new miners, you're going to have to get them in the form of new wave of City: Miners or a new season of Ninjago based on fighting off a new subterranean threat.

    I still remember it, watching the commercials like cartoon, religiously looking up stop motion fan made movies with these sets and wanting one of my own too, on the christmas day i got the drill and the crystal king. I remember having a either red and blue rock monster or a red and green rock monster. Either way, before that i just had the lego pile, don't know where it came from, but me and my brother had this huge bag of lego bricks and we just build freely from that, which was fun but i always yearned for a set. And finally i had it, for years it was displayed and i was so hurt when i lost the rock monsters (i was a very messy kid and still as an adult i misplace things all the time, it's a pain), but the drill was still there. Determined to put it all together by the plan, it took me quite a while but i was so happy with it.
    That was the only lego set i ever had, so it makes me even more sad that this line got discontinued. Since if i'll ever move to a bigger apartment and have more room and will get into the mood to get some, they'll probably be jacked up in prices. But maybe there's some other cool sets, but i'd love to get my hands on one of these again.

    I was always more a Bionicle fan growing up, I think mostly cause it tended to be cheaper than regular system. But power miners was one of my all time favorite themes. I watch the animations on Lego's website non stop, and was always building mocs with what little orange and lime pieces I had laying around.

    I think I recall having one or two sets from this theme. Particularly the Crystal King. I don't remember much, since it was so long ago, but the green pieces for its hands bring up memories of building it. While I never knew the theme was that popular, it's a shame that it got shelved.
    Say, wasn't Power Miners the LEGO theme that got a video game spin-off that's impossible to beat, due to a bug? Or am I thinking of Rock Raiders?

    The only thing I didn't like about the sets is it was lacking in the amount of bricks with the price tag on the various sets. The minifigs and monsters were worth the price, but in the end, I wish they would have revitalized the original Rock Raiders to upscale a lot of the sets. However, I still love the theme!
    Rock Raiders is still the greatest Lego Video Game of all time (considering when it came out and the thought that went into it) Grew up trying to beat the game but after playing the game for over 15 years, can now finally beat it. It is a chore just to get it to work on new computers, but it is possible

    No joke, watching this video made my eyes water. I am recalling the days when I would beg my parents to buy me these sets, along with Lego's other original themed sets--Atlantis, Power Miners, Space Police, etc. Waking up some days and seeing a wrapped box at the foot of my bed, shaking it and shouting in excitement as I hear the rustle of lego pieces inside. I now have the disposable income to buy myself lego, but its just not the same anymore, seeing how majority of what I see on shelves is just Star Wars or Lego City.

    Power Miners was my favorite theme as a kid. I had the stone cutter, mine mech, granite grinder, and lavatraz. I also bought the thunder driller as an adult, when I got back into Lego. I've always gotten a kick out of silly details in power miners sets, like the vending machine in lavatraz, the coffeemaker in the rock wrecker, or the banana in the supply crate for the titanium rig. It helped sell the effect that the miners weren't heroes per se, just ordinary workers stepping up to do a dangerous mission.
    I say we're due for a revival of the theme. The mining subtheme in City just didn't cut it.

  • @source987
    @source987 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When I was a kid, this theme was hands down my favorite along with Lego SW. I grabbed every set I could and made a point of collecting all the different rock monsters. LEGO showing off combining the different sets sold it the most for me in retrospect. It lead to many happy hours of building the wildest mining machines I could imagine when I got bored with the intended design. And best of all, my creation looked more or less at home in the theme. No randomly colored blocky abominations like many of my SW mocs at that age. You were given the means to build and expand upon the theme without any of your work looking like it was out of place.

    What a damn trip down the Nostalgia lane, I LOVED seeing these commercials. Sadly we could not afford much toys in my childhood, so we had very few lego sets. Atleast one of them was Power Miners themed, maybe the Fire Blaster set. I distinctly remember first getting my hands on one of those little crystal guys, and seeing how their mouth opened to store the crystal, just as it was advertised. Glad we got some imagination as kids, and when winter came and the tractors plowed snow into huge piles, they formed the perfect "mines" to us. Armed with plastic shovels, we had become power miners ourselves, searching for crystals and fighting the monsters. Amazing how seeing some commercials gave enough fuel to fire hours of imagination adventures. I fondly look back on these sets, even though I didn't get to tamper with the biggest sets.

Some of the redesigns in the legacy sets are amazing, and allowed me to get a version of a set I really wanted but missed out on.
