Look at that very hard and maybe you’ll see or think exactly WHY it was so easy. Hmmm, it runs deeper than one thinks and there’s always 2 that tango, never one sided. Businesses are not unblemished as we’d like to think

Afrikaners dominated South African politics from the 1940s to the 1990s, but the English-speaking population controlled the economy throughout that period. It was only after Afrikaners lost political power in 1994 that many began to accumulate significant wealth. Today, political power rests with the black majority, underscoring the idea that economic success often comes from self-reliance rather than reliance on the state.

i think what legitimizes these Mafia claims for me is the fact that literally every household brand we consume or use in SA has links to the stellenbosch billion dollar capital. which makes it 10x harder for new players to emerge, especially if they are not backed by the big boys. i always say brands like drip were destined to be doomed because they had no proper capital backing like the likes of takkie town. so until we level the playing field, stellenbosch will always be a tyranny.

Oh man , thank you your in-depth review on the "Stellenbosch Mafia" and its role in South Africa's economy and governance. I commend you for the balanced and insightful analysis you provided.
Your piece highlighted critical aspects of their economic dominance, the controversies surrounding their influence on government policies, and their impact on South Africa’s socio-economic landscape. I critique their role in perpetuating inequalities, particularly thought-provoking.

Soweto had their own mafia since the 1940s if not earlier .They formed the core of the ANC.The Stellenbosch mafia are the remnants of the diamond and gold magnates that built the BEAUTIFUL infrastructure that South Africans enjoy today. Inequality in South Africa: the majority do not earn the same amount, and have much less wealth than a minority. In order to rectify this, the majority need to be able to earn more money and increase their wealth. The only way to do that is by growing the economy of the country. The problem is, the government has made the business environment adhere to strict policies that restrict economic growth. The result is, the economy doesn't grow. The lack of maintenance of the power grid and water infrastructure is preventing all South Africans from basic services. If you don't have water or electricity, then basic things like education can't occur. If education doesn't occur, then you can't grow the economy. In addition to this, South Africa was made bankrupt by the Gupta family. The result is, the ANC introduced a law that allows them to spend the next year's annual budget in the current year to compensate for the money that was looted by the Gupta's. Johan Rupert isn't a Mafia boss. If he was, then he would do business with extreme violence. So would all the people within his so called mafia. But, there is no violence.

@MzansiBusiness impressed with the thoroughness of your research (even though a lot of it was already published and readily available...nevertheless nicely collated 👏👏).
But from your opening minutes already, it seemed you had an agenda. Your approach, even your intro, could have so easily been different...and more objective.
That is the hallmark of good quality journalism and documentary making, always. Offering a balanced perspective of positives and negatives, otherwise how is it possible to draw any valid conclusions?
Unless it is an activist you wish to be, a clearly biased purveyor of a specific cause or narrative, as is currently the case with so many of the classic legacy media in "the west", in which case I apologise for attempting to contribute.

Your narrative is not clear at all on a major issue . Afrikaans as a language was only recognised in 1925, and was mostly an attempt to marginalize the Boere part of being Afrikaans, as you never mention that . P W Botha in some way represented the Boere, while the Broederbond was highjacked by liberal colonial supporters after 31 May 1961. This, it seems, you are unaware of. Those liberal (leftist) colonial supporters are the Stellenbosch Mafia. It is they, together with the EU and American leftist rulers, who supported that arch traitor, F W de Klerck and handed South Afrika over to the ANC, Cosatu and the Communist party. the socalled Tripartheid Alliance. You highlight perfectly how they control the media (24) having known that the SABC would turn out to be a clown show. You do not mention at all how this mafia ensured the total destruction of what the previous government had built up over so many years, their reward being , the West alowing them to invest overseas and growing ever bigger. You do not mention at all how the Volks Front (Afrikaans) became the Freedom Front+ (English) through treacherous means that led to the creation of Orania, to serve as a contineous proppaganda tool to highlight accusations of "racism by verkrampte Afrikaners" (Boere) in a media system which they control. Who do you think paid for all this destruction if not them. But us Boere are STILL accused of supporting this "Broederbond". Nevertheless now it is Cyril and the ANC,s turn, ......untill they are gone as well, then , this Mafia will take over SA in what is called the "Great Taking".

No. Orania was created to preserve the Afrikaners Culture and Language. The so called Broederbond spread propaganda to accuse it as racism. Anyone regardless of your race can move to Orania, but you have to follow and believe in the Afrikaners Religion, Language etc etc. Even if you are White you can still be denied to go stay there.

It should then be a chilling realisation to the mostly black electorate that it was one of these Afrikaner-founded and led companies (in 1990s) that proposed BEE... by giving handouts they artfully prevented the rise of major black-owned and led business to challenge their control of the SA economy. The ANC drank from that poisoned chalice, and the rest is our sad post-democratic history....
And I don’t hate Afrikaners. I respect them. They are tough, survivors.

There should be a black version of Stellenbosch mafia where we upgrade the townships, create black owned supermarkets and a black owned bank. But black South African people don't stick together, many people want to be gatekeepers and millions are still waiting for a saviour or stay in pity mode.
We are cooked in this country.
