I like to imagine they didn't include Ed Koch as a guest star because they didn't invite him. He just showed up halfway through filming to ask how he was doing. Which was apparently his catch phrase during his run? I admittedly only know that from pop culture osmosis, like the gag on The Critic. And let's face it, he's still doing better than Guiliani.
Weirdly enough, long after the end of his political career, Koch started an online weekly movie review show in 2009 called "Mayor at the Movies." Now I'm imagining an alternate timeline where one of the most famous mayors of New York City signed on with Channel Awesome.
3:10 I mean, there's a Christmas special on Disney+ where Drax the Destroyer and Mantis kidnap (and brainwash into not freaking out) Kevin Bacon who teaches them how to properly do Christmas. Also it's revealed that Gobots are canon to the MCU (even though Gobots were folded into Transformers, which Paramount holds the movie rights to) and Drax's cousin was killed by one.
This was a really fun change of pace! Loved that the review was of the entire broadcast with commercials, as it made for a lot of great jokes and VERY 80's riffing material. (Reminded me a bit of Rifftrax's take on the SW Holiday Special.) Definitely one of my new favorite AT4W Christmas episodes.
This episode was genuinely really entertaining and rewatchable! I've put this one on several times already for when I need something to chill and chuckle. Seriously, I'd watch a channel dedicated to reviewing old variety shows and specials (commercials included). 😊 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! 🥰
i didnt expect it but this may be my new favorite video of yours your scrooge riff was once in that top spot guess you cant have a good christmas without linkara 😊😊
"TV used to be really friggin weird!" Truth. At least we're fortunate enough to see so much of this history right here on TH-cam. I do at least appreciate that you're as informative as well-spoken as @poparena and his Nick Knacks series.
To all the staff and stars that make these shows possible, both the ones reviewed and the review show itself, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas.
I don't know why but the hard cut to the Ninja Style Dancer half passed out on the floor and holding up a card that reads 'Too much McDonald's' really got a launch out of me.
Ok if I ever get a Patreon Review slot, I'm paying you to look at that Webster/Star Trek episode, because that is such a weird concept it has to be covered! Also Happy Holidays Lewis! Hope you and Viga have a great Christmas!
It was surreal, but not the weirdest. They used to do specials where the saturday morning cartoon lineup was introduced by a sitcom star. But sometimes there was some sort of story line. One year, Joyce DeWitt (Janet on Three's Company) was trapped in the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. I guess it was effective if I remember it all these years later.
My one for Patreon Review would be Parasyte the Maxim, because I definitely want to see Linkara's response to John Carpenter's The Thing, but Seinen anime. The cultural lens that one would be going through would be fun as heck.
While I love a good old Mr T yelling & bashing up crooks, I do like his Mr. Rodgers side. There is a lot of good stuff to say about that part of him. That said A Mr T crossover with Knight Rider would be a fun Xmas special to see. Merry Christmas AT4W!
Merry Christmas Linkara! Hope you have a great one! And thank you for putting this out at 10pm my time just in time for me to find it an hour or so later when I couldn't sleep. Thank you for putting so much love and care and spite and fun into your videos. Thank you for my first year I've gotten to spend with your content and the month I spent binge watching every episode I could. Thank you for being you here's to a merry Christmas and a happy new year. P.S. I have no clue why but it took me like five tries to spell your name right.
Speaking of Star Trek: The Next Generation, did you see the episode of Reading Rainbow where Lavar Burton talked about making of Star Trek in between stories?
That Coke reference: a lot of people don't know that New Coke was based on the Diet Coke formula. Coke Zero is supposed to taste more like Coke Classic.
10:39 I still remember walking into the comic book shop I used to frequent B.C. (Before COVID) around Christmas, the owner had He-Man on the TV above the counter, and I heard the 3 funniest words in the English language: "Merry Christmas, Skeletor!" Me, my best friend, and everyone else in the store howled with laughter.
🎶You better watch out, You better not cry, you better not pout I'm telling you why... MR.T IS COMING... TO TOWN! He's making a tape and checking it twice, he gonna find out if you been naughty or nice... MR.T IS COMING TO TOWN! MR.T IS COMING TO TOWN!! MR.T IS COMING... TO TOWN!!!🎶
i love that you kept the commercials in - it's always such a neat time capsul the Rockette's Toy Soldiers routine is all about precision - it's a very technical piece the fall they do after Billy shoots them is an amazing feat of strength and coordination
19:30 The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers is a fixture of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular to this day, including the finale with the cannon and falling soldiers.
Mr. T has returned! Also, Thank you for this... I really hope more to come like the Retrospective on the Question, or a review of Himitsu Sentai Gorenger(The Manga or first 5 episodes)!
i'm looking forward to the year 2045 where in order to keep The old Ones from breaching into our world linkara has to make a quintonreviews-esque 6 hour video essay on the history of Mr. T's wolrd of warcraft commercials.
Specials? I remember watching Donny and Marie, Rich Little, Sonny and Cher, and Carol Burnett every single week when I was growing up. Oh, and you ask about where, on a streaming service, you'd find (that)... Disney+ I mean, isn't that pretty much the plot of the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special? I love that you called Maureen McGovern a Broadway Star. This is back when she still wasn't too far from being a top 40 performer - like The Morning After from the Poseidon Adventure.
Oh, that was tinsel in her hand. I saw the silver whip pats the edge of the frame and thought for a moment she was literally manipulating the static of the VHS recording, and I was not prepared for a Maureen McGovern analog horror experience~
7:53: I'm still waiting for the my hero academia Christmas special where Santa used his Christmas magic to temporarily give All-Might his powers back so he can team up with Class 1-A to do battle with a demonic Krampus, why isn't this a thing??????
'There's one thing that you don't know about that baby... That baby was me!' Coming soon, Mr T-esus! This was fun. I always enjoy a peek into the culture and entertainment of years gone by.
Muppet Family Christmas was excellent, but every year on Christmas Eve I watch Blackadder Christmas Carol. I watch it several other times over the course of the season too.
I was just wondering when the next episode would be uploaded, then I check my phone and, speak of Mephisto, there it is! Are you some sort of Wizard?! Although, given the magic gun, you’re at the very least an Artificer. XP
Huh, it just hit me that my son's generation will probably never experince the feeling of seeing something on tv once that never re-aired, and wondering if they ever really saw it, or made it up. For some reason, Mr.T's narration with the string backing kept making me think the dwarves were about to sing about caverns deep and dragon's ire.
Muppet Family Christmas, and John Denver and the Muppets are two of my favorite Christmas specials. That, with Muppet Christmas Carol, I swear they do the best stuff for the holiday.
I grew up with variety shows in the Seventies. I still have a pretty soft spot in my heart for them. The ones with John Denver and the Muppets I still watch every year. I've not seen this one before. Glad that you shared it.
Oh man The Carpenters Space Encounters! I caught someone streaming that recently, and man was it out there. I never got to see this particular special, but always loved me some T. I even had the Mr. T figure/doll with the weird soft vinyl head when I was a kid. Also, a T / Knightrider special could have been so good too.
Variety shows were the go to back then! OMG. They were often so weird. It was probably all the 70s and 80s drug binges in TV boardrooms. You just know this one had to have been inspired by magic shrooms and Christmas nose candy. Also what's weird is TNG had a commerical for a bank, and a commercial for a charity, so it doesn't surprise Mr. T. and Webster did one.
OH! I found an old VHS tape, and in 1994 there's a Carol Burnett musical with Scott Bakula...... and wait for it..... this one is for you.... and...... This is special hang on Linkara...... Barry Bostwick singing and dancing. Yes, I have a VHS tape with the lead of MEGAFORCE doing musicals with Carol Burnett, Scott Bakula and Tony Bennett, it's called "Men, Movies and Carol." It's a charming little variety show in the 90s.
It's like when there was the A Team and the Mr. T cartoon at the same time, where the show had misunderstood criminal vigilante hoods blasting criminals, but the cartoon had messages about being nice to people. Ha.
I have not suffered any fools this Christmas, no -- though I did get my butt kicked at BTTF Monopoly. XD What a strange little special from a bygone age, but it's always fun to see you hyping Mr. T on the show. XD
Knowing that Billy/Billie wasn't actually five during this or many other specials _does uncomfortable recontextualize things._ Hope the kid was able to get care and help after his star fell. Kinda reminds me of what happened to Shirley Temple after she stopped being young and relevant. But hey, she at least became an ambassador and her looks held up in her latter life.
"I don't want to lose this one."
He says it like he has seen countless children die from lack of Christmas spirit.
Those Christmas Carol ghosts got real bloodthirsty after they didn’t manage to get Scrooge.
I presume Christmas-spirit-less children go Hollow like in Dark Souls and become eternal zombies.
@@michaelramon2411 Or Bleach style Hollows and devour the souls of the living. XD
@LupineShadowOmega Yes!!! Waco Mundo ftw.
Mr T probably made bets in the past that he could make a child happy on Christmas. And he hasn't lost any of them yet.
"May you suffer no fools to pity this season" might be the greatest holiday signoff of all time.
To be fair.
"Do you smoke?"
"No way"
"Good, neither do I, but it's for the trick."
Is actually kind of an adorable joke.
There’s just something funny of the way Lewis delivers the line :“Stop trying to steal my soul sucker!”
It's nice that, despite you doing this for so many years now, there will always be the chance to still see Mr T in it 😊
T is eTernal. Eve. If the comics ends he can reviews other material.
I want him to review Not Another Teen Movie
I like to imagine they didn't include Ed Koch as a guest star because they didn't invite him. He just showed up halfway through filming to ask how he was doing. Which was apparently his catch phrase during his run? I admittedly only know that from pop culture osmosis, like the gag on The Critic.
And let's face it, he's still doing better than Guiliani.
I also remember him from an episode of Spin City, when he was the judge on The People's Court.
Weirdly enough, long after the end of his political career, Koch started an online weekly movie review show in 2009 called "Mayor at the Movies."
Now I'm imagining an alternate timeline where one of the most famous mayors of New York City signed on with Channel Awesome.

"Soup is good food" is up there with "Hungry for apples" in the slogan dept.
*Snaps fingers* Yes.
"MY MAN!"

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! 🥰
Just what I needed after a horrible evening at work. Linkara reviewing a crazy Mr. T Christmas special.
Patreons need to fund a mister t visit or cameo secretly to surprise Lewis
Now that would make for a rockin' Christmas or Birthday gift. Or an anniversary gift (like the start of him reviewing Mr. T stuff).
If Lewis see you comment this then it won't be a surprise. But nice Idea, I hope you or someone else get it off the ground :D
It would be kind of awesome seeing an episode dedicated to Lewis interviewing Mr. T.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to explain why, but the Ninja Style Dancer holding up that sign made me literally laugh out loud.
i didnt expect it
but this may be my new favorite video of yours
your scrooge riff was once in that top spot
guess you cant have a good christmas without linkara 😊😊
"TV used to be really friggin weird!" Truth. At least we're fortunate enough to see so much of this history right here on TH-cam.
I do at least appreciate that you're as informative as well-spoken as @poparena and his Nick Knacks series.
That is indeed the truth right there
A Christmas episode with Mr. T is always great and I'm a little scared of David Copperfield🤣
Whenever Mr. T is involved, fun is always guaranteed. Merry Christmas to you, Viga and the entire AT4W crew, Linkara! :)
Mr. T: I pity the fool who's heart doesn't grow three sizes after watching this.
Merry Christmas, Linkara! Have a happy solstice and may no Elder Gods disturb you in this season.
"Or in flintlocks."
I died. Glorious.
Ok if I ever get a Patreon Review slot, I'm paying you to look at that Webster/Star Trek episode, because that is such a weird concept it has to be covered!
Also Happy Holidays Lewis! Hope you and Viga have a great Christmas!
The Patrion Review slot is too expensive, but I'd like him to review The Savage She-Hulk #1

Someone request a x-files comic 😂
I loved all the TNG crossovers. My first exposure to Star Trek was Reading Rainbow where Levar Burton took the audience behind the scenes.
My one for Patreon Review would be Parasyte the Maxim, because I definitely want to see Linkara's response to John Carpenter's The Thing, but Seinen anime. The cultural lens that one would be going through would be fun as heck.
The Holy Numbers want to thank Linkara for remembering to review something Mr.T related.
It's weird hearing Linkara talk about "Passage" when I recently watched the Trainwrecords episode about the album over on Todd in the Shadows' channel
I actually ended up seeing it before Todd's video.
2016... There but for the grace of Mr. T we would have gotten our greatest possible 45th President, Aton York!
Cool new atop the fourth wall
While I love a good old Mr T yelling & bashing up crooks, I do like his Mr. Rodgers side. There is a lot of good stuff to say about that part of him. That said A Mr T crossover with Knight Rider would be a fun Xmas special to see. Merry Christmas AT4W!
Goood morning, Linkara 👋 what a awesome treat to wake up to!🥳
Gosh didn’t expect Mr T as Santa, this is AWESOME!😊
KITT: "Michael? Where is Michael?"
Mr. T: "Shut up fool, I'm driving now!"
Hope everyone especially linkara has a safe merry Christmas and happy holidays as 2022 comes to near an end.
Merry Christmas Linkara! Hope you have a great one! And thank you for putting this out at 10pm my time just in time for me to find it an hour or so later when I couldn't sleep. Merry Christmas Linkara Brown!
EH
Disney was this close[-----] when they kidnapped Kevin Bacon.
Seeing things about the Variety Shows, I wonder if Linkara could ever find that "Legends of the Superheroes" specials and review those one day
Speaking of Star Trek: The Next Generation, did you see the episode of Reading Rainbow where Lavar Burton talked about making of Star Trek in between stories?
I did! My first exposure to Star Trek. I resisted it for years, but I eventually loved it.
This is a pretty great video and I love the true message of Christmas. Also skeletor should have been apart of this special along with k.i.t t
That Coke reference: a lot of people don't know that New Coke was based on the Diet Coke formula. Coke Zero is supposed to taste more like Coke Classic.

1 thing that Linkara’s real 1st name & the main actor from Webster have in common? They both have the name: Lewis.
Merry Christmas Lewis.

Merry Christmas Linkara to you, Viga and your families. Hope you guys have a wonderful holiday. Excellent job.
The true menace of Christmas, DAVID COPPERFIELD!
Funny story.
At the present time David Copperfield has been accused of sexual misconduct multiple time from the eighties to the 2010s

Oh, that was tinsel in her hand. I saw the silver whip pats the edge of the frame and thought for a moment she was literally manipulating the static of the VHS recording, and I was not prepared for a Maureen McGovern analog horror experience~
I love how this is pretty much a riff of this special, and I always love riffing commercials
11:10 - That really caught me off guard.
That was almost as entertaining as the time Punky Brewster and ALF saved Easter.
Awesome, a Christmas special starring Mr. T and Emmanuel Lewis! This should be fun!

Funny true story, my Grandmother had two copies of Mr. T.'s book, the Man with the Gold on her coffee table in the 1980s.
Hey, Merry whatever you all celebrate, people.
I grew up with variety shows in the Seventies. I still have a pretty soft spot in my heart for them. The ones with John Denver and the Muppets I still watch every year. I've not seen this one before. Glad that you shared it.
T Party Time!
What better way to celebrate Christmas than Mr. T?
Merry Christmas, Linkara.
Thank you. Watching this flashed me back to when I was a kid at that time.
Every year needs Mr T.
The original lyrics for Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas just gave me an idea for a new Nightmare on Elm Street film.
The only really good thing to come from the blight of 70s variety shows and specials like this is The Muppet Show.
It's cool to me seeing a tv special and ads in it that are from a different time!
8:49 Say the line, Ed!
"...how am I doing".
YAY!
He said it!
The variety show isn't quite gone. One could say they've evolved into Late Night shows.
Oh yeah!
