Putting the negative jumper cable on the battery can fuck your computer in your car so have it on a piece of metal or some sort of ground then jump the battery so it doesn’t fuck your computer for your car
You don't need the live battery car to be running to jumpstart the dead battery car. The correct way is to turn the ignition to position 1 on the dead battery car and wait at least 3 minutes, and then start it with the live battery car being completely off. On older cars, it's OK, but on newer cars that are full of electronics, having both alternators on can cause electrical damage.
I got away from jumper cables a few years ago. Jump boxes, booster boxes, whatever you want to call them have come a long way and are life savers and you do not have to depend on another vehicle.

This video has dangerous information in it please do not ever do the procedure shown in this video. There are a lot of people like you who are looking for information that they did not get taught when they were young. This is not where you should be looking. Connecting the final black lead to the battery carries a very serious risk. Once a car battery is fully discharged it releases hydrogen gas. Connecting the final black lead to the battery negative terminal will cause a spark. If your battery is close enough to the end of its life and enough hydrogen gas has built up around it this will cause an explosion. Not all of them will have red connections, you can look at the battery and it should have a + or - symbol next to its posts to label them if both wires are black. A lot of newer cars also have specific posts for jump starting that are away from the battery for reasons as simple as the battery isn't in the engine compartment and for other reasons a lot of people have already said.
Black on the dead battery shouldnt go on since it could start a spark making a fire. Find a metal area that is unpainted like a bolt or the frame. This does not go for the live battery.

The closer to the end of the batteries life the more gas it releases. Connecting the final black lead to the negative terminal of the dead battery causes a spark. That spark will ignite the gas and blow you up. You should be connecting the final lead to a bare piece of metal far away from the battery and any electronics. This is correct. When a battery charges and discharges, it creates hydrogen gas, which is explosive. When the last jumper cable connects, there is typically a small spark which let's you know all cables are connected. If the vehicle has been sitting in an area with little air movement, there is a small chance the spark could ignite the gas, causing an explosion. Typically, the battery is low on water, creating a storage area for gas buildup, and if the vent tube on the battery is disconnected, allowing the gas to be close to the terminal. Not all batteries are serviceable, but if yours is, be sure to mix baking soda and water to rinse off the outside of the battery first. Once there is no fizzing, wipe dry and let air dry. Then, get distilled water and pop the caps off the battery. This will vent the hydrogen gas. Then fill each cell 90% full or about 3/4" from the top of the hole. Put the caps back on, then start charging. Be safe. Don't blow your ass up.
It’s good to have usb rechargeable “PORTABLE JUMP STARTERS”. They’re a game changer! No need for two cars 🚗 🚘 to jump one inactive vehicle 🚗. I threw away my jumper cables this year.
Put the last negative cable to a ground on the car. If you put it on the negative post like he did, you may cause a spark. If there is any battery gasses that have vented from the battery. Boom!
The negative on the "dead" battery needs to go onto the body of the car (assuming it's a negative earth system) to create a potential difference across the starter motor.

Procedure is not ok. Correct steps to be followed are: Switch off all electrical items in both the cars. Switch off the ignition and take out the keys from both the cars. Connect one end of the Red jumper cable to the Positive (+) terminal of the dead battery, mostly Red. Connect the other end of the Red jumper cable to the Positive (+) terminal of the good battery, mostly Red. Connect one end of the Black jumper cable to the Negative (-) terminal of the good battery, mostly Black. Connect the other end of the Black jumper cable to some unpainted metallic part of the car with the dead battery. Note: For safety do not use the Negative (-) terminal of the dead battery. Start the car with the good battery and let it tun for some time. Now start the car with the dead battery. It should start. If it doesn't wait for some more time and try again. If it still doesn't start call a mechanic. Disconnecting the jumper cables should be done in the reverse order of the connecting sequence.
another video said black to ground is not necessary with newer jumper cables because they dont spark. My dad never taught me this, he always assumed that would be something i learned in school and i did learn red posivoe and black negative in school. Rarely had to ask for help after getting my first car. Once i was sick and my alternator died and i had a toold box my dad gave me in the back and took off the alternator, and got a used one for like 10 bucks and took a bus back to my car, installed it and went home to make soup. Took literally like 30 mins.
Last connection you make with the black cable should be to a ground at least 6 inches away from the battery. Anything metal and not connected to anything else is a ground.
Thanks for the information, But it shouldn't be done like that anymore. Because new cars have these computer Motherboards, that you could burn it out. By jumping the vehicle battery to battery.
Very true. It doesn't happen often, but it is always a possibility. As an extra precaution, simply connect the other black clamp to a separate part of the dead vehicle and NOT directly to the negative (-) terminal on the dead battery. A nut or bolt or other metal part of the car can be used as a ground instead, which will help prevent a short circuit.
I'm tow truck driver I do this for a living You make sure that the live battery vehicle is on before you make the connection because if you hook up to the dead battery and the vehicle's not running it can automatically short the live battery and you'll be in a position where your car won't start! You always hook up the live battery first and then hook up the negative the dead battery not simultaneously life battery both hooked up positive negative and then hook up the positive homework dead battery and then the negative
i have to remember this ... i mean i get red to red and whatnot (I know people who always have the live battery car ON first ... that never seems like a good idea to me ... but i am no car guy) I never remember the order it's safest to hook them up
The first thing you need to know is that this does not apply to all cars. There are 24V cars and EV's that have low-voltage battery but often can't be used to start other cars. My EV has a small 16V battery with a small connector, no where to connect jumper cables.

Then, get distilled water and pop the caps off the battery. This will vent the hydrogen gas. Then fill each cell 90% full or about 3/4" from the top of the hole. Put the caps back on, then start charging.
Be safe. Don't blow your ass up.
You are correct dead battery black to the ground
@@JoshWitte Chad explanation
Just watched this and helped out right now in a Winter storm. Thank you so much❤
This worked. Thanks for the quick tutorial. You made it super easy. ❤
Thank you! You just saved me.
The negative terminal on the dead car should always be clear.
I just helped someone with this vid. I always forget which color I clamp first. Ty.
Boom!
In Germany, we have the ADAC to help out with every shut we find.
Excellent! Thank you.🙏🏽
Thank you ! Got my truck started 🎉
Thank you 💚
The negative on the "dead" battery needs to go onto the body of the car (assuming it's a negative earth system) to create a potential difference across the starter motor.
Thank you so much. I can remember finally because of your explanation. 😘😁
Thanks, Dad. Followed your instructions and I have the vehicle started. Now, how to remove? Reverse order? Should both vehicles be turned off?
Thank you for being a dad. Fathers are very important. I thought my boys the same thing and have them a lot in situation when needed.
God bless you! Thank you so much for this video!!!
I see why you're not a mechanic and I'm glad you pointed that out
😂😂😂 chill
😂😂😂
Thank you for this i just jumped my mother in laws vehicle and all worked well. I have burnt cables before I most likely did it backwards.
Hey dad your on point, thank you so much for teaching me. The car battery hook up. God bless you
I hope your daughter is grateful and truly learns from you regarding values and even safety.
Not a lot of opportunities for us men to have families but those men who can afford that world - we ask the families of these men to never forget to appreciate them without pity but with sheer will that proves a clean heart.
What? All men have the opportunity to have a family.
@@jeffcampbell2710 with women who are aware and trust worthy?
Yeah go and enjoy your 56% divorce rate where 70-90% of the divorces are initiated by women for financial reasons
They’re not even grateful for us for them to have expectations from us yet we have loser kucks like you who probably think only fans is a great representation of freedom yet most prostitution starts online in very unfortunate ways that not even our leaders have the audacity to make aware.
14 million slaves in India yet America continues to neglect this and the men of those nations who also want to stop these things because they want to deem certain groups of men as “terrorists “ or “criminals “ or “rapists “ by the actions of individuals for reasons disregarded objectively and yet unjustly and mixing them up with other groups who are involved with other things that consist of ruining homes as an opportunity that should not be available in any nation as a suggestion to make things better
7 veterans commit suicide everyday due to ptsd reasons yet our tax money goes towards ruining Americas own reputation by neglecting how truth is as difficult as finding solid reason to trust people’s intentions when it’s ok to have 4-32 sexual partners and then have the expectations of stability to be the outcome since the body of an individual is now culturally and religiously/esoterically being separated from our individual identity and how males and females are not being taken care of in a way that reassures them and so that we may need to make true difference by now sacrificing time into more efficiency in the societies economic choices as a suggestion.
We want homes not military drones and ungrateful people who are trying to tell you to be grateful.
65% of Americans are on anti depressants- and most of them are also women-this means that there are women who are being used to bully or fund themselves into thinking free will cannot be abused to make cheating and lying more of an opportunity if we don’t put justice before peace for each other to actually sustain homes without the narratives in media and conversations and female interests that are built off of following other people and wanting to please them in some sort of corrupt sense of idealism and not being guided to know what’s right and wrong.
History was humanity’s freedom and look what that consisted of…
Women would sleep with their slaves and so would men
Women would cheat on their husbands for men who had gold and slaves
Which plays a vital role into how slavery and gold was a very highly symbolic representation of wealth like money is today.
But where is gratefulness when we need it?
@@jeffcampbell2710I mean there's infertility, but idk if that's what he means
Red and black on the battery of the car being jumped, red on the battery and black to a ground that isn't the negative battery terminal on the car doing the jumping. The alternator usually has a bracket to clamp to, if not, the body will work, the engine will work, the frame will work.
When you hand the cable ends to the other person, instrct them to keep the ends separated.
now days with complex electronics, jumper cable is thing of the past when a good portable jumper battery cost $50 that can be carry in the car along with other emergency kit. I just charge the battery couple times a year just to have a full power ready to go if need for jumping, charging portable electronics, etc.
Thank you so much!!!’n
Me and my Buddy had to use this video to jump my car today
We had to hitch a ride to get to his car but we were able to jump my car with his
Thank you so much your a true lifesaver
❤❤❤
Thank you for posting… it just worked! And Im safe and alive! Never learned this. My husband just sat there when I asked for his help…oh well!
Procedure is not ok.
Correct steps to be followed are:
Switch off all electrical items in both the cars.
Thanks single mother no friends and my father is dead this helped me a lot
Thank you ☺️
Thanks pops
Great video keep up the great work 💯👏
Thanks dad. Love you❤
I was thought you start with the good battery
Thanks dad
another video said black to ground is not necessary with newer jumper cables because they dont spark. Dont know if that is true or not but thought I would mention it since I saw people arguing about this lol. I have only done black to black on my car but I was using a nolo jumper so not sure if that makes a difference.
I’m never knew my father 😢… thanks
Red (hot) lead goes on both positive terminals, Black (ground or 0V reference) lead goes on both negative terminals or any unpainted metal
I’m not a doctor but but heart transplants are pretty simple. You get some shears, wire cutters, soap/water…
Thanks! Very useful info.
Thanks, Dad!
Thank you from a grown man who didn't know how to do this until now.
Thanks dad.
Thanks Uncle Bo! You’re my internet uncle now lol
Disconnect BEFORE starting the dead battery car❗️
Just get a jump box, easier, safer and way more useful.
Thank you 🙏🏾
Wrong , disabled car black to a body ground. Putting the black on the battery can cause a explosion if there are acid fumes around it.
This is correct. 50 years mechanic
Sounds like you have a tesla…sorry about that.
@@aka_dust Stop hating. You want a Tesla yourself.
Thanks Dad
Technically, you should put the black that’s on the dead car on a body ground and not the battery… You get much better results this way lol
I'm tow truck driver I do this for a living You make sure that the live battery vehicle is on before you make the connection because if you hook up to the dead battery and the vehicle's not running it can automatically short the live battery and you'll be in a position where your car won't start! You always hook up the live battery first and then hook up the negative the dead battery not simultaneously life battery both hooked up positive negative and then hook up the positive homework dead battery and then the negative
i have to remember this ... i mean i get red to red and whatnot (I know people who always have the live battery car ON first ... that never seems like a good idea to me ... but i am no car guy) I never remember the order it's safest to hook them up
Thanks, dad.
I was thought to ground first before placing the positive end. Also keep car running and give it some throttle.
To disconnect a car battery negative first black then positive red to connect a new battery positive first then negative
Expert advice sir
Damn you forgot to do the grounding.
The first thing you need to know is that this does not apply to all cars. There are 24V cars and EV's that have low-voltage battery but often can't be used to start other cars. My EV has a small 16V battery with a small connector, no where to connect jumper cables.
Stuck in the 1950's .get rid of those cables. Get a super cap,and possibly a lithium ion pack too.get a battery tester and you will be set
Most modern car have a grounded post near the engine
Aw my Daughter helps me with my car as well. She changes the air filter and unscrews the sparkplugs for me. She's 10 now.
Hey dad I know you don't know me, I am a woman, thank you for teaching your daughter what to do to keep from being stained. You're all heart. ❤
Remember to turn off or disconnect cables before starting dead battery car.
That was helpful.
Wrong position for black on dead battery, it should go to metal part of bonnet
