This game was ahead of its time with the whole monster merging system. I wish it got a remake. Imagine how cool merging system would be with the current 3D modelling technology.
they would need to create an AI that solves the merging problem or else it would be just like original, meaning putting skin Y on model X or adding limbs on a bird.
It got a sequel on ps2 but it was nothing like the original. I also remember that game was rated 3+ in the uk yet around 5 hours into the game an NPC calls you a bastard xD Just shows you how long they played the game

It started as jade cocoon remaster but i think they actually are ending up creating jade cocoon inspired game - new story, new monsters but they are gonna make it as much the same universe as possible withing copyright and licence limits. But the dude(s) are now on pause i think. I hope they get energy or income enough to make it real.
Man, imagine a Jade Cocoon with modern JRPG graphics (stylized, not hyper realistic 4k dog fur animations) and Ghibli backing. Game was absolutely amazing back in the day and is still one of my favourites next to Baldurs Gate and Nox.
You know, I had no idea how I got that weird bird thing via merging a bunch of monsters. I found it completely at random, so seeing that it wasn't some weird bug or glitch is pretty rad!
Never knew these existed. Definitely going to give these a go on my next playthrough. I am doing a very vanilla playthrough with very little merging and so far it hasn't been too bad.
I cannot believe that this game that I’ve been playing since PS1 has never been matched , the thousands and thousands of combinations for merging is incredible yet no other game has ever attempted to do something like this again , even part 2 of Jade cocoon 2 left out the merging with different appearances , which is why I absolutely despise Jade cocoon 2.... if anybody knows of a game that allows you to merge hundreds of different creature designs to make your own custom design please let me know because as far as I know only jade cocoon allows you to merge and make your own unique creature
@CPCGamer you missed one super rare minion. I dont remember the name of it, but it had seriously a lollipop tail and a body like a small Chameleon or somthing like that?... Im not Kidding, when it attacked the lollipop tail throw him into the air and he flew like a freaking helicopter. seriously. I just didnt remember how i did get it; back then.. did i morph it, or did i just encounter it in the eternal corridor with some EXTREME i mean VERY EXTREM rare "luck". I think i remember more that i catched it with a cocoon. since it was pink and not pretty (allthough sweet in some way^^) . It had a WIDE skillset of magic and physical attacks. It was a fire element. For veryone who say that i make this all up... I dont have the save anymore so i cannot prove it, but there was that monster, believe me. And i wonder if there were more, also SUPER duper ultra rare like it, and most of the players didnt played long enough to see them . Its like the super rare runes in Diablo 2--- Even the most hardcore players didnt got a drop even just once, because the chance was so etrem minimal. literaly 1:1000000 chance for the highest runes. So .. i played jade cocoon very much back then, and i saw some rare drops like the "Gottesgewand 2" idk how its called in english. I remember when I played this i literally cought just about everything and merge them all into the same 3 minions with just about every single magic ability and I tried to do my best with the physical attacks loved it tho
I randomly found one of the most powerful swords in the game. Just laying there in the yamoo tribe area. But it never happened again on other replays of the game. You can buy it in the shop at the end for like 100000000 gil.
I know this video is older but vatolkas element is based on the serial number of the playstation thingy peripheral you put in i think it wasn't the only game that did that too
hey that last monster reappears in jade cocoon 2 but it becomes earth however there is also a water variant neat refrence that almost no one knew at the time
The Vatolka you find is not fire ? =o 2:19 Nope, it's its single and advanced magic, not multiple. Yoalk is findable only in the red Spider Forest. Sometimes, you can fight a single one, not two, in this forest, but it's not common. And be happy that at Level 9, they can cast the death spell only once due to the high cost of the magic and them having not enough mana to cast two. You can protect yourself with the air shield spell though.
+Bravigaufre The Vatolka in my game isn't/wasn't fire, no. Its element is randomly assigned at the start of the game, so you can find an Earth, Fire, Air or Water one depending on what the game chooses to give you.
I got both hidden minions by dumb luck as a kid, but I never got the hidden starter minion. I'll have to buy a pocket station just to play this game again with.
Can you do a list on individual creature animations? As in all the creatures that animate similar, example: spiders, dogs, flying. Its fascinating to see them all, since i could never play the whole game.
Depending on the emulator, it acts like the Pocketstation is plugged in (which is how you get Vatolka) I use Xebra and that happens but on my phone emulator it's Arpatron
Has anyone ever found themselves a giant broadsword called something like ... "The Dragon Crest" Im not sure how I got it just wreck a dragon and there it was a massive one shot sword. never was able to find it again nor saw any mention of the thing in the manual.
i looked in the book when i got this game and it said the monster can get bigger and change as they level, but i found i couldnt get them to change as they leveled
They don't change as in a pokemon style evolution, but there are some changes in the physical form. For example, the armadillo-shaped minions will get wider and have longer, more pronounced horns, while the goat-shaped minions will become thinner with stronger looking legs.
Also, the dragons get bigger, but also longer with bigger and longer wings. The wasps will get bigger, longer rears, wings and jaw. Basically, every minions features change as they level up and there's 4 total stages to each minion. (except maybe the bosses, idk about ones you can't find normally)
There is certainly an obvious growth, I started to notice it first towards the end when I realised these minions were now huge. Then it was clear when doing two-player as well that the higher level minions are usually larger and have more developed features.

The PocketStation is a memory card for the PS1 that works a lot like the VMU from the Dreamcast. You can indeed load mini games on there, and use them to help you in your main game. Jade Cocoon is one of the few EU/NTSC games that uses the pocketstation: most of the content was JP only.
ok so im pretty sure there is another one and it will be an earth type, i remember having some panda looking thing back in the day, im also wondering what would happen if you merged Vatolka with the panda thing and the other 2 secret merges you have here. i always wanted to know if it was possible to merge to the point of getting a seterian.
Iirc the panda looking fella was miniboss on the endgame eternal forest.. i think you get the skin as a price and when merging you can reskin with those skins (one of which was panda) Altho i'm sure there were more than 2 supermonsters you can merge into... Don't remember panda being one
i too recall stumbling upon additional hidden fusions; it's why i occasionally remember to snoop around the net. haven't found evidence/details of them yet... really unfortunate as I'm certain I accidentally used it as a material and then saved. X__X
I just got this game but I'm confused about something. Sometimes when I try to exit after doing some merging, Mahbu will say she doesn't have any more room for cocoons and doesn't let me leave. I look at the list of minions I have and I've noticed there's lots of empty spaces. Can someone explain this to me?
you can fix it though I will tell you, use epsxe gpu core 2.0.0, use normal resolution,,original, widescreen, openGLv1 and 1- thread (accurate), check mark on screen filtering and none and none on full screen filters hope this helped you out =)
it not 200 minions it only 171+the 2 hidden minions so 173 in total HOWEVER gamesharking the boss monsters would only make it 192 to 193 (not including goats from the poachers)
I can't seem to find the code to capture bosses that I once found many years ago. Do you know what it is or how to find it? If I remember correctly, it was a gameshark code.

I remember making my first Tweengo by chance. Took me a while to figure out how to replicate it.
I couldn't replicate it xD But i too made one by accident.

You are only allowed to have 12 cocoons in reserve and three on your team. The minion list is a list of all the base minions you can find in the wild.

Yes lol. It's a extremely rare drop in the Spider Forest. Its called "Dragoncrest". I only ever seen it drop once.
