If I remember correctly, he counterattacks with whatever element the character that attacked him with. Dart = Fire so he counters with fire, etc. The dragon armors nullify the same element as the wearer so it essentially makes the attack useless
This, is my most precious game ever, I still have it & the strategy guide, from prima games, I loved this game I remember I saw him, before I had the vanishing stone, he killed me under two minutes, then eventually I came back the second time I beat the game & kicked his Goddamn ass.
5/3/23! Dusted off my PS4 to play the remastered version of this sucker! It took me almost 40 hours to get to this point, but I'm excited to fight Faust bcs I didn't even know he existed until a few moments ago lol. Imma cheese him with the rewind function added in the remaster 😅
I just beat this game last week and I think I maybe got perfect on the Dragoon Additions like less than 5 times over the course of the entire game. What I wonder is what were the frame windows on those? I played the game on an LCD on my PS3, and wonder if maybe it was some sort of latency issue? I would occasionally whiff on regular additions that I was sure I hit as well.
@@knightshousegames I’ve played this game on the ps1 I assure you it’s not latency. Hardly anyone I know can get that fifth round it might be some error in the game itself, I know I hit all 4 and then the last one it looks like it hit on the bullseye , but no cigar. 🤷🏻
So THIS is the boss battle that happens when you gather all the Star dust in the game? I'm so salty I didn't find all of them. Never knew this after all these years. So glad I have this still. Gonna start a new game and enjoy the journey all over again. Here's hoping that we FINALLY get a remaster of this beautiful masterpiece.
I agree, i remember this bas&%$d wiping me out 4 times! before i went on a spendthrift for the best armor pieces i could get. It was the summer between 1999 and 2000 here in Perú.
A lot of it looked like it had to do with just lucky RNG. The fact that he was only hitting each character with the corresponding elemental magic is lucky beyond belief
@@WIBYTIEDH Actually that's how Magician Faust is supposed to be programmed if you attack him physically he does a move called Elemental counter right after where he attacks you with the same element as the character so it is advised to use the Dragoon armor for each character, if you don't have Legend Casque.
+Ryndael I know this is kinda late but thanks this walkthrough will help me find the right equipment needed for this fight my first run he killed Meru and Albert in just 2 hits cause he attacked twice so thank you and i really hope when i get the rest of the equipment i need i will have a much better time fighting him
Yeah he always attacks twice. Armor of Legend/Legend Casque are the easy methods, but I just wanted to show that this is another way so you don't have to grind 60,000 gold or level 60.

I collected alk 50 stardust on my 1st playthrough, never realized it unlocked this battle till a couple weeks ago. I tried this fight once, & got beat.
in my opinion faust is the strongest boss out of all in lod hell melbu (last boss melbu Is fused with the god of destruction) didn't give me all that bullshit and all the insta deaths to 2 characters but some may argue the point he is great though Faust loot is 10,000 gold 20,000 exp And a random 10,000 gold item although it mostly gives a phantom shield Winning combo it the 10,000 gold helm and armor and shield then your taking a max of like 100 damage or if your lazy on additions you can switch the shield for the ultimate wargod I still own my psx/ps1 with memory card and lod in both colored and black and grey cds

I still think he’s harder than Melba frahma, why because I never competed the star dust collection. Lol. I was in grade school, had no internet or a computer, no one from my school heard of legend of dragoon except final fantasy series, couldn’t afford the guide book. Did my best to look through every nook and cranny. Still have the save file from my ps1 memory card.
I never could did all the spirit dust most I ever found were 37 of them. Would of loved to fight this guy. Pretty much only thing I didn't do after 150+ hours on that game as a kid. Cool to see what I was missing. I'd ask why you didn't attack him with any magic but it was probably cuz Faust is a Mage/wingly with uber high Matk/Mdf.
He does have a high magic defense number. I just beat him today, but I needed the Legend Casque to do it. It's also a good idea to have at least Albert's final addition the Flower Storm (pronounced the Blossom Storm.)
@@PowerRangerfan actually meru's last addition when mastered does 600% damage compared to alberts final which when mastered only does 300%. I always used haschel though because he combines speed and power
In my opinion, Faust was the 2nd most difficult boss to defeat in Legend Of Dragoon, but not by much. Melbu Frahma was slightly more difficult boss to defeat.

Phantom Shield halves damage, Magical Hat has the highest MAT in the game and gives you 150% MP, Holy Ankh sometimes revives you if you die, Dancer's Ring is for females and has +20 speed.
It doesn't give any armor. I included the chests in the end of the video. The Magical Hat is the real reason to kill him, because with that you can do some insane damage with Dragoon spells.
I know this is late, but oh well. The Red DG armor Dart has equipped nuls fire damage if memory serves and the soul eater is one of the most powerful weapons he can equip but it drains his hp every turn. You can negate the hp drain by equipping the therapy ring just like Ryndael did. Oh and not to mention the "power up" item that he used.

Raed Al-Banna Colored DG(Dragoon) Armor nulls that elemental damage ex: Red DG nulls Fire, Blue DG nulls Water, Jade DG nulls Wind, etc. Most are available in Zenabatos, rest are found later. I know it's late to post this but people need to know this.
831 hours is from letting the game run without Frame Limit. D Level 5 is super easy to get with things like Wargod's Sash and the right additions. I usually have everyone level 5 before disc 3. Basically I meant you don't have to grind a ton of exp or gold.
I just recently finished the game again today and I killed faust without grinding, I did do the proper prep of waiting till the point of no return doing all other sidequests and putting 2 legend casques on my party but I too was already at dragoon level 5 for both Dart and Meru while Haschel was still at 4, they also were at their final additions tho not maxed yet. I forget exactly what level but they were around this videos level too and all of this was around the 30 hour mark. I did play the game a bit differently in that I almost never used my dragoons until the end so all that extra damage normally done by dragoon power had to be done by additions which powered them and my Dlevels really fast, Dart had final burst by the 2nd time I reached Hellena's boss lol.

You should be able to get 4 hits in at least, right? The last hit you just have press a little earlier than normal. Once you realize that, it just takes a little practice.
i maxed out and i didn't know how to fight him. turn out i need to collect all stardusk. went online i did all the stardust. he is easy when you are maxed out.

That reward is NOT worth it. I got 2 phantom shields in disc 1 grinding those robot rare enemies that give 300g eachm. By the time i had mastered all my additionsni could afford 2 in lohan for 10k each lol
Phantom Shield is crap. The reason to do it (other than fun) is Magical Hat. Magical Hat gives your character a massive Magic Attack boost as well as 150% MP. Almost every boss from Zenebatos onward can be one-shot with it. Dancer's Ring is amazing as well.
I forgot how cringeworthy the dialogue in this game was. Sony must have been stingy with the translator and writer budget. Same goes with the VAs. Not trying to shit on this game, but Sony really just seemed to want to cash in on the JRPG market led by Square and Enix at the time and tried to make one as cheaply as possible. It's kind of sad really. This game had potential.
Definitely wasn’t done on the cheap. Back then it was rare to even have voice acting in an RPG. The game had a 16 million dollar budget (which is huge for back then) and it’s rumoured it even went over that. Also it’s worth nothing that this game actually started development in 1996 (a year before FFVII was even released), so whilst there might have been some last minute alterations, it’s more accurate to say that Squaresoft just pipped Sony to the post rather than Legend of Dragoon being a copy or a cash-in.

He counters twice... a single target attack against the attacker with the same element, then an area attack with the opposite element.

I noticed you always perfect strike everything, i sometimes had trouble perfecting the timing for additions/dragoon attacks
Additions were easy for me, its the Dragoon Attacks that get me each time.
All the additions are easy until you get a counter thats impossible to react to.
Like the counter on Hex Hammer is literal cancer...

Use Coolon to go to Deningrad, then go west to the icy place. Go down to the Tower of Flanvel.

I don't think I'll ever be able to land dragoon additions. Hell, I have no problems with Perky Step, but I always fuck up dragoon additions.

I recently defeated Faust on the first try; working even having to use Dragoon Transformation

You have to go to Disc 3 (the area is not available on Disc 4). It doesn't affect your game or anything, so don't worry.

RNG had nothing to do with it. It's part of the strategy: using DG armor

@@Bekemeier yes, collect 50 stardusts and you can exchange them with Vanishing Stone, then you can fight real Faust
That reward is NOT worth it. I got 2 phantom shields in disc 1 grinding those robot rare enemies that give 300g eachm. By the time i had mastered all my additionsni could afford 2 in lohan for 10k each lol
Phantom Shield is crap. The reason to do it (other than fun) is Magical Hat. Magical Hat gives your character a massive Magic Attack boost as well as 150% MP. Almost every boss from Zenebatos onward can be one-shot with it. Dancer's Ring is amazing as well.
I forgot how cringeworthy the dialogue in this game was. Sony must have been stingy with the translator and writer budget. Same goes with the VAs. Not trying to shit on this game, but Sony really just seemed to want to cash in on the JRPG market led by Square and Enix at the time and tried to make one as cheaply as possible. It's kind of sad really. This game had potential.
I mean if the translation is your only issue that’s pretty good. All there is a mod for a better translation

Definitely wasn’t done on the cheap. Back then it was rare to even have voice acting in an RPG. The game had a 16 million dollar budget (which is huge for back then) and it’s rumoured it even went over that.
Also it’s worth nothing that this game actually started development in 1996 (a year before FFVII was even released), so whilst there might have been some last minute alterations, it’s more accurate to say that Squaresoft just pipped Sony to the post rather than Legend of Dragoon being a copy or a cash-in.
