You give off the vibe of having decades of a happy marriage and still being in love, lovely to see. Renovations is a test for relationships and you're acing it.
I'm at the point where I'm starting to feel sorry for the people living next door, because for like a year now they have a Filmset next to them where one person is making noise with tools. My point is not that this in itself is bad, but I had people next to me who also thought that it's no problem if they spend their weekends making noise, so ANYTIME I thought "it's a nice day... lets enjoy it" all i hear is "bang, bang, bang, bang".... then nothing... and just when you are about to relax it starts again. I had that for 2 months... they did this all summer to the people living next to them. I dont think they will become friends in the future... Just be honest: Can you imagine having your weekends ruined for a year? Imagine you work all week and come home to....this. I want to see the finished house and "learn about the mindset of people who do this", but over all I have to say that you're lucky that you're not living next to me, because if you make my life hell I would escalate it to a whole new level, so you never forget the time you did try to mess with me and thought you would get away with it for cloud.

Unlikely you will be able to move in "unfinished" issue is that when you work on the interior, dust & materials will be every where. Really you have to at least get all the drywall hung & painting done before you can have a chance of moving in. From what I see you have a lot of work to do before even dry wall goes up: electrical, plumbing, HVAC. That is going to take a long time to do by yourself, especially since you never done those things before. Maybe if you sub it all out, you can get it all done over the next year, but finding good contractors that won't take shortcuts\poor workmanship, use low quality products, is going to be a problem.
You guys have definitely more than earned it! I hope you both have a fun and relaxing holiday season 😊 In regards to flooring, if you’re considering having children in the future it might be worth factoring that into your decision making. We had tile flooring when our youngest was a newborn, and something I had never considered until experiencing it was just how badly it impacted my mental health and post partum anxiety, and how much more harmful any bumps and falls would be for him once he started moving! We ended up laying those eva foam tiles over everywhere to keep him safe (effective, but not exactly the aesthetic we would’ve liked 😂)
I'll just say this: If your man is willing to build (or rebuild) a house for you then that man is a KEEPER!!! Plus the construction experience is going to make you two grow closer together... Good work guys, love watching the build!!!
From someone that’s been in the construction industry both on and offshore for the last 20 years, you’ve done a fantastic job and this is a well earned rest. Can’t wait to see what comes next! Enjoy the holidays.
I love how your relationship has grown and strengthened along side of the build. Not many couples would have made it this far. I just love how yalls love story is time-lined with the house.
My husband and I have built a couple dozen houses over the years in the Northwest. We always prefer wood flooring (over any type of tile) in the main living areas. It is cleaner, more temperate, and softer on the feet. When we do use tile (entry ways/laundry room/bathrooms) we ALWAYS use floor heat. Once you live with it, you’ll never want to be without it!
I had to pause the video at 15:00. Please, before you decide on tile, check out cork floors. They are AMAZING to live with, they are soft so help with sound in open spaces, they are warm and sturdier than hardwood when you have animals. My parents have tile throughout their home and they hate it. We all have to wear house shoes now because standing on the tile to make dinner is murder on your feet and knees. Tile is slippery so your pups may wipe out if running. I have dropped dishes in my kitchen and not broken them, that will never happen on tile. Oh, btw, cork is also period correct for MCM 😉
I had a cringe moment too when they mentioned tile. I can never imagine it feeling warm. Cork sounds like a great idea, especially in the vein of a mid century modern esthetic. My parents put it in my brother's room in the 50's.
FYI for anyone who doesn’t know the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), it is incredibly expensive. All the land that could be built on already is built on and is limited by mountains, rivers and oceans. That makes the price soar so there is no way they would be able to buy that size house with that view. I know that in parts of the states and around the world that isn’t the case and you can just expand outwards and have less expensive options. The natural topography makes it a gorgeous place to live but it is a double edged sword.
For real. There are houses in Abbotsford, with no view and less land for 1.5m or more. The Vancouver/fraser valley area is so stupidly expensive. There’s a reason I don’t live there anymore lol
@@mnossy11 for sure. I am in Ontario, but used to live in BC, housing prices have exploded since 2020, for many reasons, but in highly populated areas where there is no more land to build, and building permits are incredibly difficult to get with MANY restrictions, all of these things get factored into the price of a home. A builder I know told me a few months ago, a house he could build for his cost of $400k in 2019, today that exact same house on the same plot of land is now $650 minimum. Things like scarce skilled labour, scarcity in supplies, and huge increases in permits (he said for a build in 2019 he might have had 20 permits he had to complete, coming in around 50k, today that same house same land is 60 permits and more like 100k-120k just in permits. Housing in Canada right now is absolutely insane, so what they are doing absolutely makes a whole lot of sense and is going to be a VERY good financial decision as they will reap the sweat equity big time down the road.
Grandparents have a 100+ year old farm with old growth lumber everywhere. You are not kidding how ridiculously different the quality of lumber is today! It's wild. I've loved seeing some other people who really appreciate it as well
I have to agree with another's comment, dont do ceramic tile, at least everywhere. Hardwood is so much easier to clean and replace if it cracks or gets damaged. I absolutely love this. I am so invested.

As someone that is currently doing a DIY whole house reno... HIGHLY recommend having the drywall installed, mudded and sanded before moving in :) The dust goes EVERYWHERE! Love following along!
Jenna and Nick, it has been my pleasure watching every week the transformations happening at your home. I also enjoy the Q & A segments. I had no idea that the relationship was fairly new at the beginning of the project. It warms my heart to hear you talk about family and future plans. Everything I have watched (all episodes) I have loved. This is a labor of love project, and I hope you two have a smooth and easy 2025 on the house build/decor. Hears to an early move in!!!!
Totally agree. I had a tile kitchen countertop once and it was an absolute nightmare to keep it looking clean. Made me anti-tile in general-it’s so much work.
We built 3 of our homes from the ground up. The first one was when we were 19 and 20 years old. Took us 1 1/2 years. Only we two worked on it alone. One day of shingling help. Electrical, plumbing, heating, all wood finish work, mud and tape Sheetrock, laid oak floors. It was a 3 bedroom one bath home. This is how we started our marriage. We built a house and had 2 kids by the time we moved in. It has cemented our relationship as we celebrate our 56th wedding anniversary in a couple days. I started watching you, Jenna with all your crochet and creativity and really was excited to hear about the house remodel. Brings back so many memories. God’s richest blessings to you both.
Yall are going to be amazing parents based on the future of the house section. Knowing that kids are their own people and shouldnt take on the dreams of their parents. So excited to continue to watch!
I’ve watched a lot of your videos since you bought this house. I can really empathize with you. My wife and I bought a mid-century modern house and it took us one year to do all the work and finally move in. During this time, she got pregnant our first child. 9 months of carrying him along while swinging a hammer. So, my advice to you Jenna is-please don’t go in that direction! 😂 It was the most stress she and we have ever been through in our lives. Although, when the baby was born we finally had a habitable home, but we also had to put up with all the stuff that we didn’t finish. Sixteen years later, it was all worth it. Don’t lose hope.
I love that you didn't "just buy a house" because this house was so big and fascinating and unique, and much more fun ( not just for You Tube) but to live in, knowing you preserved a peice of history and are honouring the oringnal design like with wood panelling choices you mentionef. That is something so special. And the mid century architecture, once restored, is going to be so cool to actually live in compared to a cookie cutter modern or recently renovated house. ❤
I am impressed. Your tenacity is to be admired. You are learning and continue to move forward anyway. Most people do not realize how difficult a construction project like this is. Many moving parts. Weather seal the house first so your new work won't be ruined. Plywood delaminates quickly. A certificate of occupancy may be tough unless your house is finished. Plus, insurance usually needs the building to be completed also. Keep up the good work. You guys are the best.
I pretty much hate ads but that havoc ad at 1:15 is a pretty neat and unintrusive way of advertising. it genuinely looks like a real table, and I was wondering how that chip bag was animated. the first ad I've seen in awhile that didn't get on my nerves
You guys are the best of your generation! I'm older and we are heavy into diy and live watching you learn, share, and grow. Great content, well presented, and I cannot wait for you to get to move in and finish your dream home. It's never ending! Stay strong, enjoy your week deserved break!
hardwood is warm to the touch/feel. Tile is very cold. (esp real stone). hardwood can get scratched (esp by big dogs/kids) but can generally be refinished. Tile doesn't show little scratches, but it can crack or break. (esp for example moving heavy things across it). HTH
Everyone needs rest! You deserve it! I'm proud of you guys, you did so much work on that house, I'm obsessed with this renovation ❤ enjoy your holiday.
I've said this on a lot of my favorite channels. You can have the best cameras, mics and editing and have interesting content but if you are a dud on camera or are boring to listen to you won't be successful. Personality is the #1 ingredient for a great channel and you guys are very enjoyable to watch.
What you two are doing is definitely the most challenging house project. Consider that you did somewhere on the order of 3x the work of, say, building a house from scratch. You had to empty the house, demolish the house, and then build it.... but not just demo and build.... you *carefully* did a partial demo, and then carefully mated the build into the remaining original structure. Very challenging and very impressive.
It's all about trying out power tools - my dad bought me a power drill when I was a girl just going out to live by myself after university and let me drill some test holes in wood and the basement walls. And I've been self sufficient in that regard ever since - it's awesome
I love it that you two have figured out already that the little shit doesn’t matter. Not worth fighting for. You’re way ahead of the game for a happy relationship. I look forward to watching your journey in life and family. Stay true to yourselves and each other. Much love to all. ❤ Happy Holidays!!🎉
What I love about you two is that you have made the right decisions of how much to renovate. Making sure that when all is said and done you will have an excellent home! Loved it when you redid the stairway!
Have you considered Marmoleum from BC floors… definitely check them out. I installed it in my apartment because I also like a mid-century vibe and the patterns and colours are so cool. And I’ve absolutely loved them. They feel like wood on your feet.
Kind of can’t believe your relationship wasn’t that old before this project began. What a huge commitment to take on in the context of a growing relationship. You do put forward a united, compatible front and it’s great that everybody celebrates that. But don’t believe the hype! You don’t have to be the perfect couple to be happy, and you should expect setbacks like the ones you encountered on this project. Let yourselves be imperfect and share only what you feel comfortable with. We’re just observers who are, in our own minimal way, helping you make this project possible.
How fun! *settles in with crochet project * ☺️🧡. 4:34 JENNA. Your editing skills are SERIOUSLY TOP NOTCH. Impressive. 🔥 I wish I had asked how many square feet the finished house will be. It looks so ginormous sometimes, but then sometimes, not. It’s gonna be sooooo SO GORGEOUS! ☺️🧡
I hope you guys don't mind but I laughed a little bit when Nick said what is coming up next isn't going to be tedious or labor intense. Sanding drywall and getting drywall ready to paint is both of those things. I am currently working on my basement and it's only 4 rooms but man did sanding the drywall stink. Mudding wasn't too bad, but after the 3rd coat I was ready to be done.
We moved in with 1 finished bedroom and bathroom, a washer and dryer, and a kitchen with a fridge, dishwasher, and small appliances for cooking. Everything else is still studs. Just finished the insulation. 😅
I wouldnt watch your videos so religously if you guys didnt have such a beautiful relationship. I hope one day to find my jenna out there. Look forward to seeing what the future holds for you guys!
I am happy to see you two mesh so well together in personalities and work ethics. You'll have a happy home, happy family, happy life - God willing. You are a fabulous couple.
I agree others who have said please reconsider about the tile. We bought a condo with tiled bathroom, kitchen, and hallways, and carpeted bedrooms and living room. We opted to use engineered hardwood for the living room, and bedrooms, but kept the tiled hallways, kitchen, and bathroom. We regretted doing that way because the tile is a killer on feet and knees. We ended up getting the hallways and dining room done in the hardwood (we were lucky they still had our wood), and I regret not putting wood on the kitchen floor. So, yeah, I recommend tile only in the bathroom. Plus, when you add wood as an afterthought you end up with lots of transitions which break up the flow of the hardwood. Hard lessons learned. Thanks for this Q&A, and Happy Christmas or Chanukah!
I renovated a camper floor - bedroom, kitchen and dining area- with my husband and it was so fun and rewarding and so over budget! 🤣 But it made us appreciate each other so much more and made us so close. Thanks for sharing this experience. My husband would never agree to be videotaped.
Even though you both are a lot younger than me, you’re my inspiration!!!! Keep on chugging! You are doing great! Also I am so happy that I joined your Patreon!
I am so glad you have decided to stay with the beautiful wood for your cabinets! So many people just want to paint everything white or gray. Wood is beautiful and warm!❤
I think you guys are content creators first, home builders second. Once this is done, I hope you'll jump to new things you want to do. Because whatever you do will be good content! I'd love to see you, for instance, restore a car. Or Jenna make art for the home. Or even travel together. Keep pursuing your dreams, we'll come along.
The view you have from your home is well worth the whole project. I can envision what it will be like for you when it is complete. I think if you did another project like this for a rental or vacation home would be neat to watch. You two work very well together. "GO NICKY" "GO JENNA"!
Awesome. Cool house it's going to be a beautiful home and I don't know if houses can be happy but if they can yours is elated to be cared for and full of joy once again.
Folks you need to sheet plastic a warming area where you can take breaks in. A small space heater would keep it comfortable gas or electric. I recommend a Mr Heater buddy heater with a hose and filter for a 20 lb bottle. You’ll get about 100 hours on the low setting.
That was nice to hear about letting your children decide what they want to do with the house. It sounds like the past owners keeping it in the family by all means is maybe what caused the house to become derelict in the first place!
For anyone else building a home, hire an architect and you can still do the construction yourself. Architects help you from preliminary to finish. They will help you find subcontractors and do submittals for you.
I have LOVED this series, so my vote is to renovate another house. You two work so well together, it's a joy to watch each week. My son lives in Vancouver, and I love seeing the views of the water, etc. Keep up the good work!
What you are doing is remarkable & admirable. Im loving this series. As a retired Realtor i personally knew a handful of people that did this kind of Reno work from Bank owned properties. But, those houses were in a neighborhood that needed revitalizing, generally near a downtown area with 1000 or less square feet, or like in your case, a house they wanted personally for theirselves in the suburbs or country side in the sticks or corn fields.
My dad built us a home in the early 80’s and he put a mix of hardwood and tile throughout the house. The bedrooms had carpet but the entries were tile and the hallways and dining room was all hardwood. The kitchen was tile. Love your house and your work.
I understand and agree with your feelings about not passing the house down through generations. I don't have children, just a nephew, and his style is contemporary, as opposed to my mid-century modern home. He also doesn't need the income from selling my house, so I've already told him that I'm leaving my house to a friend who loves my home as much as I do. Styles, materials and attitudes change from generation to generation, so I think you're wise in your decision. Enjoy your time off, and I wish you both a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
I normally love ALL your decisions, however I hate tile floors! I owned a home that had water damage, mid-80's and decided to go with tile. I was told I would hate the cracks, breaks, and grout - even with expensive Italian tile, and they were SO RIGHT! Couldn't wait to tear it up and replace with wood. Just an FYI, love ya'll and wish you both all the best, and many happy years together😂❤🎉!! ps, years from now I can see you with a new (2nd) project in a warm, sunny place!
I came for the pom-poms and the crochet but stayed for the massive construction project.

Weather seal the house first so your new work won't be ruined. Plywood delaminates quickly. A certificate of occupancy may be tough unless your house is finished. Plus, insurance usually needs the building to be completed also. Keep up the good work. You guys are the best.
the amount of work you guys have done on your own with a little help here and there is crazy, take all the time you need to relax!
HTH
Tile is hard on the back after prolonged standing while working in the kitchen.
So glad you managed to get a holiday. It’s important.
Everyone needs rest! You deserve it! I'm proud of you guys, you did so much work on that house, I'm obsessed with this renovation ❤ enjoy your holiday.
I always described my 'fear' of power tools as 'healthy respect'. I still have healthy respect for our table saw.
Okay, I love this question, and I love your responses! But can we just acknowledge how absolutely amazing this window wall is!?!? 7:19
I have window wall envy.
I was super nervous they weren’t going to keep that in the final design and I’m so glad they did
I've said this on a lot of my favorite channels. You can have the best cameras, mics and editing and have interesting content but if you are a dud on camera or are boring to listen to you won't be successful. Personality is the #1 ingredient for a great channel and you guys are very enjoyable to watch.
Take all the time you guys need!! Its been a long time with nonstop hard work. You earn it!!!
I love the way you two work together and laugh
Great q and a. And you both certainly earned and deserve a rest. Happy Holidays!! 🎄🤗❣️❣️
I just adore these two. They are so sweet and work so well together.
Thanks for letting us come along on this journey with you. Looking forward to seeing the progress in the new year. Enjoy your break!
Have you considered Marmoleum from BC floors… definitely check them out. I installed it in my apartment because I also like a mid-century vibe and the patterns and colours are so cool. And I’ve absolutely loved them. They feel like wood on your feet.
You two are sweet, competent, and a joy to listen to. 💎💎
Enjoy your trip to New York. This was great having the Q&A. Thank you for sharing.❤
That ad was slick lol
Kind of can’t believe your relationship wasn’t that old before this project began. What a huge commitment to take on in the context of a growing relationship. You do put forward a united, compatible front and it’s great that everybody celebrates that. But don’t believe the hype! You don’t have to be the perfect couple to be happy, and you should expect setbacks like the ones you encountered on this project. Let yourselves be imperfect and share only what you feel comfortable with. We’re just observers who are, in our own minimal way, helping you make this project possible.
I love seeing how you two interact on this whole project. You seem like an amazing couple with a very strong relationship. ❤
How fun! *settles in with crochet project * ☺️🧡. 4:34 JENNA. Your editing skills are SERIOUSLY TOP NOTCH. Impressive. 🔥
I wish I had asked how many square feet the finished house will be. It looks so ginormous sometimes, but then sometimes, not. It’s gonna be sooooo SO GORGEOUS! ☺️🧡
Would love to see you guys take on another project after this one is complete! Enjoying the content, thanks for sharing
I love watching you both fix this house.
Two very sensible adults 🎉 Thanks for your content and sharing your journey with us!
Congratulations to you guys for prioritizing some downtime!!!
Amen!!!! Remodeled my sister's bathroom and finishing the drywall was the worst part...she loves it! I could be happy never doing that again, lol...
I think they meant compared to what they’ve already been doing so far it doesn’t compare
they said its mostly panelling. thus little drywall.
You guys take care of each other 1st! Thanks for the Q&A . Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ❣
We moved in with 1 finished bedroom and bathroom, a washer and dryer, and a kitchen with a fridge, dishwasher, and small appliances for cooking. Everything else is still studs. Just finished the insulation. 😅
Just a thought for the flooring choice…cork…very MCM…keep up the good work guys and can’t wait for the next vid!
You two have the most unique, awesome vibe!! The first video I watched I was instantly hooked. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!!
I wouldnt watch your videos so religously if you guys didnt have such a beautiful relationship. I hope one day to find my jenna out there. Look forward to seeing what the future holds for you guys!
SO PROUD OF YOU GUYS AND EXCITED FOR WHATS TO COME! 💕🕺❤
Such a great series! Merry Christmas Jenna and Nicky!! 🎄
I am happy to see you two mesh so well together in personalities and work ethics. You'll have a happy home, happy family, happy life - God willing. You are a fabulous couple.
I love this series. So happy for and proud of both of you parasocially.
But it made us appreciate each other so much more and made us so close.
Thanks for sharing this experience. My husband would never agree to be videotaped.
Fall protection!!! Please don't forget to be safe.
thank you guys for your positive spirit ... all the best form New Caledonia in the south pacific...... Happy Christmass holidays 😍😍
I'd definitely like to see more renovation projects once this is done. Such amazing content with the two of you.
I hope that you both have a great holiday! Hopefully you'll both come back refreshed and ready for more reno!
Yeah, you two really work well together, you two are very calm.
Happy holidays to both of you. I love watching how calm and relaxed you both work together. You make a great team.
Have a fun safe trip. Thanks for the updates.. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I'm so excited about all you are doing, your relationship, the design of the house and the gorgeous view!
I think you guys are content creators first, home builders second. Once this is done, I hope you'll jump to new things you want to do. Because whatever you do will be good content! I'd love to see you, for instance, restore a car. Or Jenna make art for the home. Or even travel together. Keep pursuing your dreams, we'll come along.
enjoy the break!! take care of yourselves and let your bodies heal!!!
2 sensible adults! Well done both of You! Keep up the good work! Your video is always enjoyable! Great chat!
Honestly, this content made my day!
The view you have from your home is well worth the whole project. I can envision what it will be like for you when it is complete. I think if you did another project like this for a rental or vacation home would be neat to watch. You two work very well together. "GO NICKY" "GO JENNA"!
That view! That’s why this house.
Awesome. Cool house it's going to be a beautiful home and I don't know if houses can be happy but if they can yours is elated to be cared for and full of joy once again.
Suggestion for your next project…a vacation home in the USA. We love y’all ❤️
Love the Q&A. Your vibe is truly inspiring. Thanks and enjoy your break.
Loved this video! Love hearing from both of you!
these Q&As are always so fascinating 🥰
Folks you need to sheet plastic a warming area where you can take breaks in. A small space heater would keep it comfortable gas or electric. I recommend a Mr Heater buddy heater with a hose and filter for a 20 lb bottle. You’ll get about 100 hours on the low setting.
You guys are doing great. Love coming to watch this wholesome content.
That was nice to hear about letting your children decide what they want to do with the house. It sounds like the past owners keeping it in the family by all means is maybe what caused the house to become derelict in the first place!
Love you both take care of yourselfs ❤
For anyone else building a home, hire an architect and you can still do the construction yourself. Architects help you from preliminary to finish. They will help you find subcontractors and do submittals for you.
I have LOVED this series, so my vote is to renovate another house. You two work so well together, it's a joy to watch each week. My son lives in Vancouver, and I love seeing the views of the water, etc. Keep up the good work!
Have you considered cork, it's renewable and very warm under foot and lots of different styles now
What you are doing is remarkable & admirable.
4:25 I came in like a wrecking ball 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤.
