What a fantastic woman! Hauling water, maintaining a fire, keeping track of the thatch, removing snow with her own ingenious fishing pole system. Wow! And she’s a person of faith. Love it! Thanks for this fabulous documentary!
@@darrenfarrell-bn2cb ... I cannot imagine living in a home that old.. I live in Australia where the oldest building is just over 200 years old.. I would love to be able to tho.. Happy New Year to you?.
An amazing lady , gosh 81 years , she looks 20 years younger , she certainly deserved that MBE such an educated , wise , strong lady ,I could listen to her all day , such an interesting interview , thank you for sharing , good health and a long life Margaret 😊❤😊
After I watched a few documentary’s on Margret I thought I’d love to call by and meet her as I’ve a little stone cottage not far from Belcoo and blacklion last year I was sitting outside the butcher’s in blacklion Margret got off a bus beside me I approached and said hello and asked her if she knows she’s famous she laughed and replied “ach famous me arse “ so down to earth and a lovely person 👍
As much as your comment is acutely accurate, I feel sad that this part of our culture and identity will be lost and forgotten. A hard life for sure, but a deeply rewarding, content and honest one. A true pleasure, watching and listening to your daily life. May you have many more.
Almost Christmas Day here in USA and just came upon this video again. I used to follow it in recent years but then it disappeared. Am so happy to see and hear Margaret in her beautiful cottage. Lovely to see such a cottage in existence today. Merry Christmas to everyone. Blessings.
Love the realness in Margaret, in a time when most seek nothing but comfort and luxury, she is happy and proud of her hard yet simple way of life. And the older i get really think that kind of living keeps you loving life. Hope Margaret can stay in her home till her last day.
I'm so happy to hear this lady is still around. I saw the documentary on her a few decades back, and I confess to secretly watching it several times. This lady is a treasure. I do hope all of her knowledge about how to live this way is being preserved--and not just as a curiosity but as something really worth learning and putting to use. There may be a time sooner than we think when we all will be living like her again. God speed, Margaret. 🧡
Understand your point, however, the likelihood of any of us living a similar lifestyle to that of Margaret is extremely remote. It is lovely to think it possible, but highly remote.
I’ve seen Margaret’s s story before a few times and it’s wonderful to see her still well and enjoying her life. Her simple yet hard life is a marvellous example to everyone. Her happiness being content with what’s around her and keeping true to her values. She is a true inspiration. Thank you for sharing this.
I used to live in round thatched house in rural south india. No windows and only one door and outdoors open kitchen. Those are the lovely days and delicious food. Even in South india these thatched mud houses are outdated now. Amazingly well worth story.
Its a pity Margaret never married or had children of her own as she would of made a wonderful mother her patience and attitude towards life is a virtue,,, keep interviewing this lady and do your best to record as much information you can from her,, people like her are a treasure trove of information and knowledge her story is very important and absolutely invaluable to your northern Irish history🙏
Unfortunately, Margaret solitude is in part the result of Anglicanization and Americanization. The youth of the region at the time, and since then, were more interested in copying the lives of those in the city and in America. So, as she herself had said, there was no one to ask her to marry. It's such a shame, too, a wealth of tradition with no one to pass it on to. A shame of today's society, not a shame on Margaret.
Goes to show, some people are better off alone. Marriage is not for everyone, and nice to see one can be happy alone. My parents were married for 65 years. My dad died in 2022. My mother misses him every waking moment.
I first saw the video All I've ever known" which was made over thirty years ago and I thought what a fantastic woman, so well educated and a role model of how to live a life with meaning. I wish her many more years of good health, so that she can enjoy her beloved cottage 🙏
Thank Margaret for sharing your life and lovely home. My father came from Co Fermanagh in between Kesh and Pettigoe in Rose cottage and was a Gallagher...small world.Blessing to you for Christmas
Dear Margaret...so knowledgeable woman and so sweet person. I will never forget that day...ever..❤❤❤ You are always in my heart! Blessings from Sweden🇸🇪
Wow! This woman is brilliant! She's a library of an ancient sort of wisdom. I hope there are people younger than her that will keep this knowledge in practice. May she live long and well, and when help is needed may it come to her. And when her time on Earth has ended, may someone take over her home that could be as good a steward as she is. ❤☮🌎
This beautiful woman reminds me so much of my Granny-Spin. She looked after her granite cottage in the same way, not that she was born in it, but she loved it. She is so wise about her home and the way we should be allowed to live…💜💜💜
Absolutely loved this story, thank you for making the time to record this for us and the many more to come. Historical information like this is priceless. Very much appreciated.
There is a lesson here on how to keep youthfull as Margaret you certainly do not seem to age. Wonderfull person. A message we should all take note of.♥
such a lovely film about Margaret. My mother is 84 and the same generation as this lovely lady. Positive outlook, respect nature and still active. I hope that I can maintain that attitude of fortitude. I can see I have inherited that attitude somewhat and the simple ways of living. Unlike my mother, I have travelled to distant lands and lived abroad half of my life, but came back to Ireland in my fifties, as there is nothing like the people here and I appreciate it everyday.
Wonderful to see this amazing lady again.this is the sort of life i would have liked she is so at peace and content with what she has.a very rare thing these days.thank you Margaret for letting us into your beautiful home.Blessings to you.💐💐
I hope the next person to live in the house cares for it as well, its not easy to keep a fire going 24 hours a day. Imagine going away on holiday and worrying about the roof beams. Its like she and the house have a symbiotic relationship and it's really wonderful to see ❤
I think it will be turned into a museum, it should anyway, because not many people want to live like that anymore. They would "modernize" the house and totally destroy its history and character in the process.
What a brilliant lady .I have been following her for years . The next time my wife and I travel down from kildare ,I am going to see her ,and that wonderful famous house .
A lovely house and lady. I too live in a small house, somewhat like that but with a green metal roof and the fire in an iron wood-stove for heat. I too need to carry wood and gather tinder but I do have indoor plumbing. I agree on the simple life; I live in the high desert country on the Continental Divide. There is a lot to be said for solitude in your own simple house, living a life that requires you to live a lifestyle of interacting with the outside.
Margaret is a very wealthy woman. All the money in the world could not buy what she possess. Being very content with her life and Lacking nothing. I remember from a previous interview that the sister immigrated to England and Margaret remained on the farm to look after her father and continue the tradition of living in the cottage and maintaining it. Obviously that all shall come to an end. I really enjoyed listening to her. Margaret is only 2 years older than myself and born and bred not far from her in Ballymena, which is not far from her in real terms. Unlike Margaret, Ina e been living around the world and now retired in Australia and at those times in life I am very envious of the contentment she is enjoying. In her twilight years. I recall her mentioning in her previous interview that one of her sisters children shall continue the tradition of living in the cottage. I hope the person adopts to the lifestyle, which is harder said then done. wishing Margaret and he replacement all the best.
God ( Jesus Christ ) Bless you Margaret . Your continued story over the years has been marvellous thank you. You are a shining example for those that will listen . How wonderful that you have always lived “ at home “ with all the family memories. Love from Australia - both sides of my family came from Ireland in the early 1850s .
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, my father was born in Fermanagh in 1931, you are filling in the gaps to the many stories he told of his childhood on a farm

I only discovered Margaret this year. I wonder if she's aware how many videos exist of her in the world and how much love people have for her and her way of doing things. The level of knowledge she has about her surroundings and the ecosystem that exists around her is palpable. So many phases of her life have been documented and we're incredibly lucky to have someone like her in Ireland.
