People that say there's no science in art are so wrong, anatomy is freaking complicated and even more when you start making animals and made up beings.
True! And I find the science in art beautiful!✨👌🏾
Yes, especially when motion and emotion are added
learn the art of science, learn the science of art
That's not even mentioning when you add perspective into it haha
who say's 'there's no science in art'... i've never heard anyone claim that. maybe you're hanging out with a few morons...
As a traditional artist, I do in fact have a symmetry tool and can copy paste my character silhouettes
Woah! I never knew there was such a thing! ✨That’s so cool!✨✨
The trick with the top view is phenomenal!
Thanks!
Orthographic projection to get a ¾ view is insane tbh alot of work but worth it
I'm animating a character turnaround at the moment too and here are some things i noticed as well
1. torso is biggest in front view and thinnest in side view.. so 3 quater will be bigger than side but smaller than front
2. head is thinnest in front view and biggest in side
3.feet in side view will be centered as compared to the front view and hands as well
Will post the character turnaround animation when I'm done soon hehe
Nice! I can tell you’ve been doing some studying!✨
@@joshuaadeoye thanks for the tips my friend
Name app for animation turnarounds please
@@patriciajichu5423 it’s called Krita! It’s a free application.✨
I like ember, she doesn't look like pure evil, you can tell she has motives and a personality of her own. I want to see her in your story!
You’re exactly right! There’s a reason she’s got a score to settle! You’ll definitely see her in more of my videos. I might even animate her!✨

ditto!
"work towards likeness instead of geometric perfection"
Dude, I NEEDED to hear you say work towards likeness instead of geometric perfection- I thought I SUCKED at character turnarounds because of how I couldn’t get the individual facial features or individual fingers to lineup with the features and fingers on a different view
Honestly! I had a similar epiphany when I found out that most hand drawn characters aren’t geometrically accurate!✨✨✨
I have been hired by an animation studio, and they gave me work for character's turnaround sheets. It's gonna really help me, thank you vv much!
Woah! That so awesome! Congratulations! I’m glad this helped!✨✨✨
This video is literally my bible when it comes to making turns for my characters, tysm for making it🙇🏾♀️🙇🏾♀️
Dude I hope this channel grows like crazy, your style is one of the most pleasing ones I've seen in the art tutorial space and it's obvious from this video alone that you know your stuff. My jaw dropped at that three-quarter view trick.
Thank you so much!✨🙏🏾
I´d LOVE to see Ember again! Her design is very appealing, I love your art and the animation control you have. It is amazing, congratulations!
Thank you so much! ✨🙏🏾 She’ll definitely show up more on this channel!✨👌🏾
I've not seen it done better than this. Excellent tips.
Woah! Thank you!✨🙏🏾✨
I'd like to add, another example of drawing side profiles to their likeness and not to geometric perfection is the 3D animated Peanuts movie! Pretty much every character's facial features move around depending on what limited angle they're in to capture the same likeness of them from the comics and shows. Just thought that was neat :))
Oooh! The peanuts movie is a really good one thanks for adding that!✨🙏🏾✨
Never clicked on a video faster.. and I surely wasn’t disappointed .. really engaging video! And the animations in between!!! Top level 🙌🏽
Thanks so much for the kind words man! 🙏🏾✨
This video is a 10/10
1. clear, concise explanation with visual aids for kinaesthetic learners ( most tutorials ive seen just voice over whilst showing a speed drawing of something disconnected from whattheir saying just for video filler, which is frustrating)
2. methodology is fantastic, you show you know your stuff in a very digestible way and not overcomplicating the audience with over the top jargon.
3. short and to the point but makes the audience want to know more about turnarounds
I have some suggestions for future videos. Maybe do a "draw with me" folllow up/ live stream video of turnarounds. reviewing Turn around submissions.
Fantastic Job Joshua, this is honestly the best video ive seen on turnarounds, and ive seen alot lol. cant wait to see more of your videos. I've subbed.
Also some more video content id like to see from you:
Character sheets would be great.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I would love to do a “draw with me” live stream. I’ll figure it out and see when it would be best to do one! ✨for now, I’m working on a video on model/ character sheets!
Woah! It’s almost like you read my Google doc! No worries, these are all coming in due time!✨thank you!🙏🏾✨🙏🏾
@@joshuaadeoye haha your welcome, thank you for taking the time to reply! looking forward to your future videos ^_^
It's funny that my process is sort of the opposite--- I sculpt my characters in 3D using Blender and then use that model for my drawing reference when I'm creating comic boards. Uploading the 3D models to Mixamo to get my characters in a specific pose also really helps. But I've also run into having to alter features slightly for better likeness, so my technique definitely isn't perfect.
That’s a great process!✨👌🏾✨👌🏾
thanks for making such a precise and to the point tutorial. no fluff just info and super easy to follow. can't wait to draw turnarounds of all my characters now
My pleasure! ✨ love the spirit!✨
Woah that 3/4 tip really is a game changer for me! Gotta try it sometime!
As far as I can see, TH-cam Gods has finally paid attention to your channel, but still, you deserve so much more! The quality of your educational shorts is outstanding

Incredible video! Super happy Im being recommended so many underrated art videos
Thank you!✨✨🙏🏾 I’m also discovering many artists in the TH-cam art space!✨
In general I think that your art + animations are really cool, but I especially like the way you draw hair! It has so much dimention and personallity. Keep making cool videos!
Thank you! 🙏🏾 ✨That’s really observant! 👌🏾✨
I never knew how involved character turnarounds are but makes sense to set a foundation to start. I struggle with 3/4 back views 😅 Would love to see more of your cool villain!
Yeah! Turnarounds just save you stress further down the road. You’ll definitely see her more!✨ Thanks for the kind words! 🙏🏾✨🙏🏾
Love this concept for your character. She gives this vibe of antihero and I’m rooting for it. Thank you for this tutorial! It is straightforward with the right information. I always had errors with my proportions so I’m gonna give this method a shot. Keep drawing
Thank you!✨that’s what I was going for! ✨🙏🏾✨Thanks also for the kind words! ✨🙏🏾✨
This was soooo good. There isn't anything that I've found that is as useful as this video is for turnarounds. Thank you!
That’s a huge compliment!✨🙏🏾✨Thanks for watching!✨
Absolutely enraged that I can’t spam the like button and have all of them go through. Thank you so, so much! Friendly, concise, educational, and that tip with the top view translating to 3/4 absolutely blew my mind! I never would have thought of it! I’m about to give two of my designs glow-ups and can’t wait to try this.
Aww🥹 Thank youuu! ✨🙏🏾 I love your spirit!✨🙏🏾
Ooh, I never thought of doing a top down view to make the 3/4 angles! Very cool idea, I'll have to give that a try sometime. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Thanks! Happy it helped!✨
Great value, this is so on point! Love something on character sheets - Keep rockin' Joshua!

ferociously helpful and brilliant content. Thanks, Joshua!
I do the most things myself, and yes you are right with the lines to line up the features, it helps a lot to draw every part in the correct place.😊
i think this is the best turnaround tutorial i've ever seen, not only explaining what to do but why you do it or how it works
i'm going into 3D work as a hobby so this will definitely help with building a believable character 🙏
Thank you so much! ✨🙏🏾✨I wish you the best in your 3d practice!✨
I love the way you explain the process, very underrated. Also your character deserves her own show very badass!
Thank you!✨🙏🏾✨🙏🏾✨🙏🏾✨

Glad you liked it! ✨🙏🏾🙏🏾
Man! Thanks for this video, I've been struggling with 3/4 views on my character turnarounds for ages and this is really helpful.
Thanks for the kind words! ✨🙏🏾✨✨🙏🏾So glad the video helped!
Came here from the model sheet video. Another great video and no audio issues this time. Guessing the other was a fluke. Thanks for the tips
Thank you!🙏🏾✨
I just came back here to say that the two animations at :19 and 3:16 are jaw-droppingly good. Would love to see how you created those - any rough sketches, keyframes, breakdowns, timing charts, etc. That's some Marc Davis level stuff!!!
Thank you!✨🙏🏾Actually, when I’m animating for myself, I don’t use timing charts and my first pass is usually pretty clean. This is to save time. I plan to explain my process much clearer in a future video!✨
That was amazing! I always struggle with putting together turnarounds that are actually gonna be useful for my 3D modeling process, so thanks for all the tips :]
Would love to see a vid about character sheets
My pleasure! I didn’t expect many 3d modelers to watch this!✨thanks!🙏🏾✨
Thank you for your tutorial ! Im applying to the gobelins this year and i hope my turnaround will make my portfolio a lil better 👍
Woah! Awesome! I hope you get in! ✨✨✨
One piece of advice I've gotten from an industry professional that helped a lot was when it comes to turnarounds, sometimes looking good is more important than looking accurate. If Mickey only had a single ear on his side profile, he'd look weird as hell.
That’s some solid advice! I’d say though that it’s even more important for the character to look like themselves from every angle! Thanks for sharing! ✨🙏🏾✨
Drawing a top view to get the persp of the 3/4 view is so 5 head. This vids a keeper holy, and yes, model sheet video would be appreciated
Thank you! ✨🙏🏾✨I’m currently working on the video on model sheets.✨
@@joshuaadeoye thank you for making cool art n animations!
Aaaaa I wish I saw this sooner!! I've been getting into animation and started making sheets for my characters, I'm definitely going to follow your advices, it's brilliant!!

You're very welcome! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏾✨🙏🏾
Duuuude, I've never thought about picturing the 3/4 by making a top view and rotating it. It changes the whole game, thank you so much!
Great video, I love it, subbed and liked - excited to see more!
This is a really good video! Definitely going to reference this for future characters I make
Thanks!🙏🏾✨✨✨✨
This was a great video. It was clear, concise, and straight to the point. Yes, I would to see your process of creating a character design model sheet. Thanks.
Thank you! The video on model sheets is in the works!✨
This is such a helpful video! It would be great I think to expand more on the 3/4 view technique because this is the first time I've seen this and I'm honestly a little lost on how to approach it.
Cool! Thats very helpful tips, thank you!
My pleasure! ✨✨✨🙏🏾

Great tips! I'd like to see a video on model sheets next

I just found your page and I am excited for these tutorials! The biggest thing I struggle with is timing. Could you break down how you time out an animation?

This helps so much! I hated having to do turn arounds cuz to me it was a pain in the arse and because of a bunch of details i had to put in the character. I wished the algorithm wouldve reccomended me this video while i was still taking charcter design class.

Would love to see how you do a model sheets. I'm also curious on how you would explain what types of shapes and forms are used in Anime vs Western Animation.
The top view tip is definitely something I wasn't aware of and will try it out on my next turn-around pieces. Thanks for creating a great video!!
My next video is about model sheets! I LOVE your suggestion on anime vs western animation. I might do an analysis in the future!✨
Thanks for watching!✨🙏🏾
thanks for making this i've been doing to many turn arround where i put to much attention into the anatomy and geometry and forgett that appeal is very important when desining this
Yeah! Getting the anatomy right has its own appeal but I personally like to focus on raw Appeal! Thanks for sharing! ✨🙏🏾 keep moving forward!🔥

I definitely will! I’m glad the video helped!✨✨✨
Yes to the model sheets‼️
