    I'm surprised how Melbourne fishing has changed since netting has stopped. Some people will agree some people won't. But it's improved ALOT since netting was banned

    • @marxfishing

      Brendan Torpy 100% agree, can’t be sure if it’s because of the netting ban or not, but it has greatly improved of late, so could be.

      Fishin' with Marki Mark, thanks! I was in Sydney a while back, and the fishing next to the Opera House and around the harbour by the Aquarium, was just nuts. The bream were as big as snapper, we got some nice size flathead too. No one seems to fish that area. Not sure if you have fished that area, but you should, if you’re not too far away. (Not suppose to keep/eat the fish though, apparently they’re toxic).

    • @FishingwithMarkiMark
      @FishingwithMarkiMark 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh cheers mate! not many people fish there because its a "no fishing zone around the Opera House & around the Aquarium". However, it is rare someone will bother you if your fishing with a light outfit throwing some plastics. Yes, only can eat East of harbour bridge and limited consumption of fish per month. I'll definitely give it a go, now chasing kings as they have come into the harbour. :) Tight-Lines bud.

    • @marxfishing
      @marxfishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, there is a large part of that area that you can fish (or at least you could 2 years ago when I was there). There is a small part you can't, but the areas that you can also have no fishing signs on many of the docks and landings areas for tour boats and such. Which is to advise not to fish off those docks, and people assume that means you can't fish anywhere in that area, and get that area confused with the small area that you can't fish at all. A few years ago I found a map, online, that outlined it all.

    What plastic where you using and how were you working it

    • @marxfishing
      @marxfishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      2.5 to 3.5 inch curly tail grubs, brand and colour didn’t seem to matter. Most of the fish were taken as the lure was falling to the bottom, after the cast, but otherwise just hop it back to you, leave long pauses. 1/6 oz jig head, or 1/4 if its a bit windy, size 1/0 hook. Using scent on the lure won’t hurt either.

    • @marxfishing
      @marxfishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are health warnings about the bream, because of the old industrial contaminants in the river bed. The bream live there year round, and the contamination becomes concentrated in their flesh. The Snapper are just passing through, they spend most of their time out in the bay, there are no health warnings on eating the snapper. These are the same fish you would catch in St Kilda or Williamstown.
