Somehow I ended up with my ex’s dog after our break up, I wouldn’t have chosen a little white fluffy dog but he’s my baby now, he’s climbed more mountains and been on more tinder dates then anyone I know

When my parents divorced, our dog was always considered one of the kids. Every other weekend, my brother, dog, and I go over to my father's house. Just like my brother and I, sometimes my dog will go over to my dad's alone...or dad will just come over my mom's and hang out, etc. Pets are a part of the family and just like kids, they should not be forced to choose sides because of a breakup.
My roommate went through something similar with his ex-girlfriend and their dog. They settled somewhat on joint custody but it made for extremely awkward periods once both parties started dating other people.
I have known guys who just gave in and let their ex girlfriends take the dogs so they could finally be left alone, lol. My boyfriend and I have a dog together but technically ... I was the one who had wanted a dog for a year before that & picked her out and technically, she was a Christmas present to me. Lol. He really didn't know at the time how much he was going to fall in love with her and he especially didn't want the breed she is. But now he wants more! Luckily for him, he's a good boyfriend and we're going on six years so there's a good chance we'll stay together if I can keep being a good enough for him. But yeah, I think the dog would hypothetically go with me.
ugh . . . as a pragmatist, i would never get "our" dog without the benefit of marriage with a pre-nup that covers the custody issue. Unmarried, I would say WE agree to having a pet, but pet would be primarily "mine" or "his", and like other things in OUR household, there would be shared responsibility. If there's a breakup and the pet prefers "him" or "him" is in a better situation to take care of the pet (and now adding another bruise to my heart), the plan goes out the window, and the pet goes with "him". BTW, I would never ever use a pet as leverage in a breakup . . . bad, bad, bad.
This was a very great video, I must say. You always do make great videos, you are good at what you do! Anyways I thought this was a totally different type of video that I was going to watch at first. I thought it was going to be about relationships at first, and who is the person that gets dogged the most after a break-up? For example: Is it the man's or the woman's fault? Which person is looked down on after a Relationship? Who fault is it for the relationship falling a part? are just some of the few questions that came to mind when I accidentally read the title of the video wrong. So I wrote this comment, because I thought this would be a good topic for your next video Cristen. Cheers! :)
I got a cat with an ex but we agreed for her to keep it since I already had a cat from before we were together. I collected quite a few cats with another ex. He kept the cat he had owned initially, I found a home for one, and ended up getting the rest since I was better able to care for them and he could barely care for himself. It is about what is in the best interest for the animals.
If I was in this position, I think it would depend on the circumstances, who pays bills for the pet? (food vet etc.), who spends more time with the dog/cat(walks, wrestling etc, cuddling etc..) If it was the guy. then I think he should keep it. if it was the girl then of course, then she should get it. I personally wouldn't want joint custody. But at the same time.. a pet is like a kid in a way.
Please stop talking about cats as if they were couches; if you've never been close with a cat don't talk about them as if you knew just as I won't start making wild assumptions about pet lizard behaviour. There are lots of different animal individuals with different personalities. So far none of the cats I've known was even the slightest aloof, on the contrary. If you don't like cats, at least don't slander them.
I love cats too, but I don't think she was trying to suggest they are erm...couches, or trying to slander them. As somebody who's interacted with a lot of cats and dogs (honestly my closest friend in life thusfar being a cat), cats are usually much more flexible when it comes to drastic changes in an environment. A lot of them really are just more aloof, but even ones that aren't tend to get fussy or moody but aren't prone to the same level of "my world is falling apart" that dogs are. Different animals have different personalities but there is some degree of predisposition that's also a factor.
She can have the pet..unless she's a psycho, a cheater, or her job sux and cannot afford it. Been through this and it's easier to let them have it....unless it was a gift. If they gave it to you as a gift then want it back they fall into the psycho category. No one should gift a pet.
Even if u got a pet brain scanner I feel their preference would not matter. Much like that of children's preferences. They're almost always ignored....
@Nella_Darren talking from experience 2/3 cats my family has ever owned are aloof for a majority of the time, and generally only bugged us for food or to clean his box, I feel confident saying cats are mostly assholes, I still love them but I wouldn't be surprised to find out they're all sociopaths.
when ppl should b married, they just live together. when they have a sense of having third member, which normally, or tradisionally, is a child, they get themselves a dog to which they treat and love like a their own child. now they hv this problem.
WTF?! "Pet custody"?! Okay, I know that not ago a gaggle of insane judges ruled corporations to be people, but imagining that _pets_ are people, that is insane! What's next: she gets custody of the orchid every other week, and he gets to spend time with the kitchen table one day per fortnight?
She can have the dog, then I will no longer be subjected to letting it out to piss and blow poo all over the place then have to pick up the poo. Then I just get a cat that just goes anytime, cleanly in a little box.

you sound like the type of girl that would use a man for a dog.

He looks she is really frying his brain
you'd be surprise on how many people do this with cats.

if its a cat go to the hospital and give it a ct scan (CatScan)

I AINT SELLIN MY BURD D:
I think the pet should be given to the person which it has had in the house of for the longest. Don't you think think this would be the best way?

The dog should follow It's master.

I would have already had pets so at least I wouldn't have to worry about this!
It would be easy for me, I don't like dogs, so my ex could have it.

Some people do grow emotional attachment to there animals bozo
Who bought the dog obviously!

"get informed" - yeah I was trying to... This video is an annoying distraction to that

Who gets the dog after a breakup?.. THE SHELTER!!! =)
if this is the case, the couple shouldn't have had a dog in the first place... gross answer imo.
First!
OMG!|!!! STOP!!
