People forget awakening was the perfect celebration of fire emblem and truly the revamp to bringing it into the mainstream. So many references and cool editions that made this feel like the years of fire emblem lore and story came together for something great. Chrom lucina basically honor Marth Sigurd and seliph. Nowi mentions meeting bantu. Literally seeing tiki. Walhart for alm in gaiden. Priam for Ike. And so on. It was truly. Coming together of what made fire emblem fire emblem Priam deserved better from the writers.
My thing with Tharja is also that, the timeline Noire comes from is where she was an awful abusive mother. By coming back in time and meeting her mother, in theory, the abuse would never happen and Tharja could become a better person. Then again, there's no real way to prove that, so I don't blame people for disliking her. Also, I had a crush on Rogue and Wanda from X-Men Evolutions as a kid.
I love ALL the characters in Awakening in their own different ways. Yes, I'm even talking about the villains! Gangrel is pretty cool, and even though it doesn't make sense for him to be alive later on, I think his miniature redemption arc is sweet. The little hotspring conversation with him and Emmeryn was something I enjoyed too! Aside from that, one character that stood out to me from the early game was Panne. As a kid, I thought shapeshifters were extremely cool!! And she's a rabbit... a species that's typically viewed as weak and scared prey animals. I thought she was SO badass for being the opposite of that, despite being a bunny.
Ladies: tharja Cordelia Lissa severa lucina Maribelle nowi tiki Morgan(f) and Anna for finally being truly playable. Males: robin chrom walhart Gregor Mustafa Gaius owain inigo Gerome Priam
aside from female robin who's probably one of my favorite characters in the whole series, my favorite awakening character is probably Tiki. She has it all, tragic past, solid character and beautiful. She's just great. A close second would have to be Walhart because he's cool, funny, and his support with robin is great.
Yes male Morgan and female Morgan are different. Female Morgan has a some what sadistic side hidden under her cute daughter energy while male Morgan is more goofy and likes bugs that look like grima. Since my main ship with robin is tharja(best girl btw) and we see the future past dlc have Morgan's backstory of being an enemy we know it's canon as she has two books she wrote in. One robin gave her and mentioned in the hot springs dlc showing she went back in time and probably lost her memory from he trauma of it all. Male Morgan isn't as interesting he's more goofy but he does hold some interest with how he likes grima shaped animals but female Morgan is more developed as a character
Miriel, my beloved. One of the most overlooked characters in Awakening, I believe. But most people are not into that style of conversation, so it's understandable hardly anybody cares. I paired her with Kellam, and the resulting Laurent was a damn Iron Man that absolutely decimated everything in sight while barely receiving any damage from anything.
@@TheGameShelf I can see the association. I am not a fan of TBBT myself beyond the first few seasons and the caricatures and jokes get repetitive quite fast. Perhaps it's because Miriel is not taken to such extremes in writing and I mostly enjoy reading that neutral style of expression, as I can relate to it slightly as well.
Genuinely she's one of my favorite characters. No, her writing isn't always the strongest, and yes, she's a pain to keep alive early game, but she's so memorable to me. Most of her supports revolve around her love for science and studies. For some, she's at best a purely comedic character, and at worst just plain boring. But her supports with Fredrick, particularly their A support, is one of my favorite in the entire game. She reveals that she hasn't ever had a real friend, and that even though she respects her fellow shepards, she doesn't consider a single one of them to be a true friend to her. And that just changed the way I saw her entirely. Theres so many instances of her trying to help the other characters in the game, or trying to study something with them. And at first glance that can just be seen as comedy set up, but I see it as her genuinely trying to reach out and connect with others, only for them to write off her friendliness as just "that weird stuff miriel does". A lot of the shepards just see her an unfriendly bookworm. Hell, Sully even insults her in their C support right before asking her for favours. When Fredrick awkwardly accepts her request of friendship, she seems genuinely happy. He doesn't really understand her, but he actually sees her and cares about her, and that's more than most people in her life. Her character needs more reading between the lines to fully enjoy, but I just think she's a lot more interesting than people think. (Sry for the long response, I love Miriel.)
Awakening remains the perfect "Fire Emblem 101" game. It's a Jack of All Trades, Master of None. It doesn't excel in either story, gameplay, or characters, but it gets every one of them decent enough, and the "kids from the future" mechanic plus the EXCELLENT music helps to give it an identity of its own. I'd recommend anyone who wants to get into Fire Emblem to start with Awakening.
Hard disagree on jack of all trades thing. Awakening does many things better than it's past competition First characterization as these supports are way more deep as a whole than many of the past one and marriages actually matter to the story as where most before don't really do anything if x married y aside genealogy but even then it's two generations of characters that can easily be replaced making them less interesting Does the unrequited love story the best period. Cordelia can't marry chrom but she doesn't stop there like faye flora one of the pegasus sisters etc and keeps going as a character finding new love(kellam and robin are best as chrom isn't mentioned in their romance) or even feeding into it by henya being a post time skip relationship showing Cordelia was affected by her loved one getting married. Never seen that done. Combat while not best third or fourth but it lead to fates rebalancing the game and fates is the best system made showing it was one step away from perfection there Skills and how to pass them top tier showing your hard work does come in handy when giving the sons galeforce using gender related skills to their advantage. Plus new game plus in Saving a robin and renown if not for awakening making strides to it we wouldn't get what's to come. Plus the first 5 chapters are the perfect puzzle to show you how to play awakening with how many small details come into play for the chapter 5 boss. Basically saying it's a master of none is a gross overexaggerating statement. Awakening did many things right and with the later games we see each was lacking in something they definitely needed more tune up on. Engage class skills. 3 houses gameplay. Echoes supports as they show lacking of a second gen game when we are decades from that.
@@ivanbluecool First of all, I appreciate your perspective but please consider adding a bit more punctuation. Its lack makes your comment a bit harder to follow. I wasn't comparing Awakening just to past games, I was comparing it to the series as a whole, and specified three aspects I don't think it excels at: characters, plot, and gameplay *in general*. There may be, as you mentioned, specific elements that Awakening does really well. But even with stuff that you mentioned, like for example the added depth of supports and the handling of unrequired love, I think characters and the plot as a whole are still not as engaging and interesting as, say, the ones in Genealogy, or the Radiant duology, or the latter Three Houses. And the gameplay and map design is still kinda weaker overall compared to the likes of Thraccia, Conquest, Engage, and even the simpler Path of Radiance. The plot has a very weak 2nd act, and even the moments it gets right were done better before and after. The gameplay on normal difficulty makes it too easy to make your characters overpowered, particularly with the ease of grinding, follow-up attacks by adjacent units and lacks of map variety, whereas Maddening goes too far in the opposite direction. You say 3 Houses has worse gameplay. That may be true, but 3 Houses has more interesting and well-written characters than Awakening. Conquest might have a worse story, but it has better gameplay. This is what I mean by "master of none".
Tiki is my favorite character here and in all FE i just love the idea of manaketes and she is te best of them all, not to mention I love how she is kinda of an old school welcomer to us awakening starters and her symbolism as an long living being
There is a very good reason a lot of FE English VAs didn’t reprise their roles after their Awakening and/or Fates. It’s because many of them are Union actors and they weren’t getting good deals legally for their services; as such they’re recast into Heroes…
I freaking love awakening, that and gen 5 are my pinacles of nostalgia and even if I akwnoledge its flaws I still find it to be my favorite game overall even if in the history and gameplay department I have other favorites.
I think Awakening is the only game in the franchise where I don't like any characters. Like even Fates which I find MC being the worst (I dislike Chrom and Robin but that's it Corrin is so bad omg) I do like few characters. I do like cherche but's it only because I've a giga Wyvern bias making me like almost all of them 😅 Otherwise there is Tiki but it's kind of a cheat 😂
I didn't mind Tharja in awakening, i actually liked her character. I just didn't understand why she became sexualized. Nothing about her character in game says that she would dress the way she is often put in heroes. I began to hate her in everything past awakening.
Did you read the robin support? Or the Olivia one in the summer dlc? She trained herself to be "normal" to get robin showing she's willing to change so the wedding outfit isn't a stretch and it's black showing she's still keeping to wearing black and wanting to find robin. Christmas she's doing the normal girl thing to get robin so that's not a stretch. Plus shes literally called the most beautiful in the army. Her description says she has the best body and even nowi is curious to play with her boingy bits. Plus I feel you missed the point. Her sprite literally covers her body with a book showing how she distances herself from others. Some official art show her in nice poses and how she fell for robin too. Then we get more on how aggressive she is with her love with Camila in warriors hugging robin. Basically she's treated fair enough to how awakening originally used her. Though most hate on camilia for being the outwardly pretty one with how she shows her body so tharja got a pass on that from most people as fate gets a lot of hate

Calling Henry an edge lord feels off. He isn't dark or gritty, he's just a guy who finds simple joy in murdering his foes
As someone who speaks russian all his life I didn't recognise russian accent on gregor
I liked Frederick becsuse he was a good unit with no training needed
