Fire Emblem Awakening came at a time when I didn't have a 3DS, and even though over time on the channel I would continue to write about its characters, lore and story, there was one aspect that has always been underexplored relative to other games on the channel, like Blazing Sword and Path of Radiance: And that's this games supports. Awakening has so much character dialogue and I've always felt I've neglected to talk about the supports in this game. So a couple weeks ago, I set out to just start reading supports in the game and looking for ones I found particularly memorable, this eventually brought me to ask some Awakening fans what their favorite silly supports were. And upon inspection: I can confirm, this game is freaking hilarious. I mean, Every Fire Emblem game has funny character writing, its all part of why supports are awesome. But today I wanted to focus on 4 particular supports that I found especially memorable and funny. Lately I've felt the itch to return to writing about character interactions over mechanics, and so, here we are.

Awakening has some of the most fun supports especially when Gregor is involved. He's a whole dlc story himself
Gregor's supports are definitely some of the best. I honestly can't choose whether his support with Cherche or Cordelia is better.

The Inigo/Owain support where they genuinely don’t like each other and have to grow and learn to be friends makes their Fates support where Odin is Laslow’s rock as Laslow struggles with the feeling that he is losing what made him Inigo and all the memories of his past life much more powerful. They still bicker and tease each other, but it is out of love instead of disdain.
Honestly the trio appearing in Fates are probably one of the biggest reasons I'd like Fire Emblem to try properly dipping into supports with more than 2 characters outside of just occasional cameos.
Like getting to watch multiple adventures of Severa/Selena having to third wheel (babysit) these 2 lovable idiots would be great.
Awakening was my first Fire Emblem and the humor was one of the biggest parts that won me over. Anything with Maribelle was gold!
Maribelle: "Lon'qu! Just what do you think you were doing in that last battle?"
Lon'qu: "Stabbing people."
“It should be ‘Whom did you piss off?’”

An Awakening support that I think is really overlooked is Male Robin with Laurent. The two of them bond over magic tomes that are useless in combat, but entertaining in their own right.

I loved that support chain for how silly, funny, and wholesome it was.
I’m sorry, Chrom lost that cooking competition. If you almost kill a judge in a competition, that gets you disbarred.

So Chrom needed to have his dush tasted first to knocj out the judge and not receive a score and neither win or lose.
However, he went last, so although he didnt win by never gaining points, he lost by allowing his opponent to gain points snd he not having any to win with.
Farming supports while listening to the "Conquest" OST is the most precious memory i have of this game. This game made me WANT to farm the supports, and i have done so for DAYS. These characters inspired me to write, that's the impact these characters had on me. I love Three Houses like almost no other game, but Awakening made me want to pursue my, today, favourite hobby, no book, no movie, no real life experience achieved that, no, it was this game. It holds a very special place in my heart and always will.

To go with the Inigo Owain support, if you check Laslow damaged sprite(?) in FEH, his sword has something written on it which is probably a reference to that support!

Henry, just EVERYTHING Henry is soooo good since it's the perfect blend of humour and realisations of WHY he uses so much humour.
He's far from the only tragic dark mage in the series sure but he is the one who sticks most with me.
His whole thing with Nowi of like "its simple we just make more dragons so you don't have to be alone, boom problem solved!" But he's so enthusiastic about it because he knows exactly what being alone is like.
I feel like Owain's supports would have benefitted greatly from having voice acting. Just listen to him talk in FE Warriors and see how well that gets his antics across.
Kanji Tang puts his soul into every line Owain has in Warriors and even Fates and it's just so funny.

@@mysmallnoman I was being carried all the way til the endgame. I used the streetpass avatars to carry me throughout the whole game for the second time but the endgame really tested my sanity and patience.
I think my favorite is the Cordelia x Kellam support. Of course everyone knows the Kellam gimmick is that he's invisible, but rather than see that as a bad thing, Cordelia sees it as a strength and asks him to teach her how to be stealthier. It's kind of funny while also being very sweet.
Kellam’s support with Cordelia honestly reminds me of his support with Miriel, since she becomes genuinely fascinated by his lack of presence and tries to find a scientific reason as to why 😂

The kid supports are honestly heart breaking when some of them know that they'll be replaced by the og kids someday. Imagine your world being destoryed and living in one you are basically a stranger in.
Tharja are very good. Especially when she's trying to play extra mean when she's helpful and how scary a hex family is so she did right by niore and Morgan.
Tharja basically turns into the camp therapist in like half of her supports. She actually ends up being one of the characters helping others the most with various major issues. Very much tries to hide (and possibly deny) still having a good core deep down by pretending to be a much worse person than she actually is.
Well considering Sumia's curves, Cynthia's cake isn't surprising

One thing that always makes me laugh is that the writers managed to squeeze a reference to the movie Taken into Robin's support with Gaius.
One of my favorites is Lucina’s sibling supports. In my playthrough, it was Morgan cutting fruit with Falchion and the two of them screaming because of a cockroach in the tent.
Omg I love her support with M!Morgan. Especially considering it seems that, what few memories Morgan can remember, include Lucina, and he threatens a legendary sword to not fail his sister or it will be relegated to the kitchen. (Not to mention the implication that he is a rightful heir to Falchion with the log)

I read through practically every gen one support in awakenings for a fanfiction project I’m still working on, and honestly the hit rate for hood/funny supports is much higher than most other FE games. It really feels like most had some level of of care and thought put into them.
For the record, Maribelle has no bad supports. Literally batting 1000 for either personality development or interesting running plot in all of them.
I like how Awakening has different supports for Male and Female Robin in a lot of cases. For example, Female Robin's support with Lon'qu is pretty funny. I like how she's trying to spar, but due to his fear of women he's trying to avoid her and she ends up throwing figs at him, and then it devolves into her trying to make him laugh in the B-support. And then that indirectly causes him to be more comfortable around her. Same with her support with Chrom, though it does fall back on the anime trope of walking in on the opposite sex while they're in the bath
I remember that exact thing happen with (F)Robin and Gaius (except she walked in on him). He even gave her the nickname "Bubbles" because of that.
The Japanese version actually has an entire other robin script for supports and the main story, as you could choose for robin to be a silent protagonist during character creation. Much like radiant dawn's hard mode dialogue, its an unfortunately large portion of the game that the non-japanese versions didn't bother with.

Awakening supports are some of my favs and they get quite a bit of laughs outta me, i especially rlly love morgans supports
Man, I love the character writing in Awakening. Despite most everyone having a recognizable/memorable archetype, they never feel one-note to me.

Inigo and Owain has to be one of my favorite supports from Awakening. I loved both characters immediately so I was very excited when I unlocked their C support - you can imagine my surprise when they immediately started fighting lmao. Lon’qu and Olivia and Vaike and Maribelle are the ones that stand out in my mind the best, those are the pairings I always go with but I like the pairings because the supports are funny
Dude the Owain Inigo support went crazy asf. Whoever was cooking there needs to get back in the kitchen for the next game (FE4 remake PLESAE IS)
Part of what awakening did really well with the children characters is that every one of them have abnormal behavioral issues but most of it is pretty understandable considering their parents and upbringing.
I played Awakening for hundreds of hours, collecting and reading all the supports. Very few games hit the same balance of camp and intrigue that Awakening did imo.
"Chrom wants you"
One of my favorites is Brady and Owain. Owain and Morgan, Morgan and Inigo, Inigo and Noire; actually the kids have a lot of funny (and heavy) ones.
I believe it was actually you that taught me that every support with Virion is the best support in Awakening. He's so fantastic at pulling the personality out of whoever he's supporting with, and has some surprising depth of character. By far my favorite character for supports in Awakening!
Any support that mentions Sully's horse gets a solid A tier from me. That horse was it's own character in some supports that Sully isn't even in.
If you do make a followup video, Brady has some great supports. His supports with Owain, Noire, and Severa in particular are fun. And who could forget the Laurent & Noire support chain 😂
Videos talking about Awakening post-Three Houses are always appreciated. I have such a soft spot for Awakening because it came out at the perfect time in high school for my entire friend group to get obsessed with the game.
If you wanna talk more about supports, you could make a video focussing on ones that deal with some heavy or existential stuff, that goes far beyond these games being "for kids"...
Supports like Robin and Tiki discussing relationships between normal humans and dragons always leading to heartbreak for the longlived dragon, or Ash and Catherine talking about his brother being turned in by her and executed.
Great video. Honestly it’s refreshing that a lord and one of their closest Allie’s have such a funny support imo. Usually FE tends to make those supports some of the more character focused ones.
Also I am forever sad we didn’t get more Awakening Anna supports because both are hilarious. Chrom especially would be funny imo
There are sweet awakening supports, there are dumb awakening supports, there are bad awakening supports occasionally, and the then you have the hilarious stuff where the cast fleece each other or that time Chrom got so fed up with Inigo’s antics he sicks Noire on him until he stops giving away their movements and battle plans to enemy spies while trying to get laid while she very much leans into similarities with her mother. (In my head Robin and Tharja who are married watch this unfold and Robin can’t help but agree this is very fun to be the outsider looking in on.)
One really underrated and surprisingly good support I'd like to shout out is Virion/Panne. Not so much for being funny, though it does have some good lines. But it's just a genuinely good and heartfelt support chain, despite potentially seeming like an odd pairing at a glance.
I am doing Awakening fan ranslation into russian and I have found out, that this memable phrase in anna-tiki support is changed in the EU version. She calls Tiki a samaritan and not job-killing socialst.

Awakening was my first FE, and I farmed to fill the support log. There are a lot of great ones, but Henry and Cordelia's C support is one of my all time favorites because of how it capitalizes on the fact that Henry joins AFTER Chrom is canonically married
Henry had several great supports that really benefitted from him joining after several key plot events...something I wish more Awakening characters could have benefitted from (Chrom and Lissa having anything to say about Emmeryn dying and him being exalt for one).
If there's one thing from Three Houses that needs to be a permeant series feature, it's chapter / time-gated supports.

I've never used Tiki and Anna in the same playthrough so I never got their supports, but they are hilarious together. Anna is just a silly character that shouldn't be taken seriously, but it's nice to see Tiki doing something else than being the wise Oracle she is in the story and her other supports. She's just silly here and it's great.
Awakening has top tier humor. I like how most of the supports are just silly conversations, a nice change of pace from the serious tone of the main story (especially from Emmeryn's final chapter onwards). Every conversation that has either Maribelle or Gregor is automatically gold.
Another funny support that kind of ties into one of the ones in this video is Maribelle/Olivia. Maribelle takes it upon herself to be Olivia's life coach and help her develop more of a back bone. Unfortunately she doesn't actually know how to do that so she consults a trashy self-help book popular among Ylissean noblemen that recommends flirting with women as a way to boost confidence. They try this out and get yelled at by Chrom for damaging the army's reputation. The real funny part of this is when you realize, combining this with Olivia's support with Inigo, this is where Inigo got the inspiration for his philosophy. Essentially, Inigo being an irredeemable flirt is all Maribelle's fault.
And not quite a support but I have to give a shoutout to Cynthia's recruitment conversation with Chrom if he's her father. "Pega-Pony Princess" is top tier.
Almost everything with owain is so funny. I wish voice acting was a lot more present in the ds era especially since many of these supports were hilarious and entertaining
Not exactly support related but some of my favorite dialogue are the parent/child Future Past conversations and the Harvest Festival dlc convos (Severa/Cynthia breaks my heart every time).

Fire Emblem Awakening is my favorite Fire Emblem game even now. I did play it when it came out in 2013 and have loved it since and do a replay every so many years in which I am currently doing. I think my favorite most memorable support is Chrom and female Robin where they both see each other in their birthday suits and as Chrom says later: "Have nothing to hide from each other" lol Cracks me up every time. I would love to see more videos about the supports from Awakening since I haven't seen any of these even with my over 200 hours in the game.

This is the game that got me into the series, my older cousin got me into it and I LOVE this game, even if its gameplay is so-so to me.
Chrom and Vaike's support had me in stitches. It's up there with Python and Forsyth and Lorenz and Sylvain as the funniest support for me.
I found awakening supports pretty similar to Engage supports, both have a lot of hilarious supports.
One of my favorite supports from this game came from Inigo trying to romance Lucina while also having dialogues from time with Nah where it feels like Inigo doesn't get through Lucina and then sulks at a bar where Nah is staying and talks with him about his misadventures and that he maybe should change his approaches to find someone he can be with xD

Gosh the supports are so hilarious in this game. I feel like the Lucina and sibling support is tailor made for Cynthia. Of course there’s the iconic Chrom “we want you” poster from him and Frederick’s support. And the even more iconic “I WANT TO BE MANHANDLED!” line. Not a support, but the funniest moment with my OTP is the married convo in the Hot Springs DLC between Robin and Lucina. It’s both sweet but hilarious at the start, with her being so clueless and trying her best, only to then slowly spiral down to a bittersweet convo that literally *foreshadows a major plot point*.
I like the one between Cordelia and Lon'qu, Lon'qu owes Cordelia a favor so she wants to get some training lessons from him even though he has the fear of woman.
I remember marrying Anna in my first Awakening run, kinda randomly. But it was fun! Recruiting Morgan after however.. yeah, that map isn't kind to a Thief unit.
To this day it's still my most (re)played game on 3DS. (I kinda wish the Switch had a game library the way the 3DS did it, with playtime, sessions etc). NGL this game meant a ton to me and it kept me going for a few years during a time when my depression was the worst.

Awakening is praised as on of the best FE games for a reason and a lot that praise is often about the characters and how they are written. Personally, one of my favorite comedic supports is Virion talking to Libra. Who hasn't laughed at that one?

Awakening has amazing supports across the board. I think the best in the entire series (admittedly I haven't played Fates or some of the old ones).
I'd say Three Houses bests Awakening for character development in supports.
Time-gated supports allowing characters to acknowledge story events during support conversations, combined with far more expansive worldbuilding, did wonders for fleshing the characters out.
As for humour though, Awakening wins that easily, with its heartfelt comedy and lighter tone shining near-uncontested there.

Awakening was my first foray into Fire Emblem and I’m glad it was.
The story was fairly generic but the characters were so funny, genuine and made with surprising depth once you dig a little.
The cast of characters carried it for me and I will carry a torch for it.

Despite this being one of my favorite games, I don't think I've actually seen some of these supports, or at least, I don't remember seeing them, especially Anna/Tiki; that was just hilarious lmao
I low-key love Anna supports. Especially the S rank in FEA and Fates.
I only ever played awakening once, and I didn't see a ton of the supports, but I can remember a few memorable ones.
-Chrom x Olivia - lmao why do they immediately get married that's so goofy 😂
-Nowi x Libra - this one was just really sweet! It's about how Libra feels like he's lost his heart and Nowi takes him literally lol.
-Nowi x Frederick - it's not exactly "amusing" but it was my friend's favorite. They have a really natural progression and surprisingly strong bond. It's nice!
I need to get back to Awakening..... specifically for Henry, I have a feeling his supports go crazy
I always found F!Robin × Donnel support really funny and relatable 😆
Awakening was overall the better game when it came to characters and that is the best for it. Awakening may not have the best gameplay, or the best story, or the best soundtrack, but man this game has the best cast of characters in the series. Characters like Chrom, Frederick, Lissa, The Vaike, Stahl, Miriel, Basilio, Flavia, Lon’qu, Gregor, Sully, Cordelia, Sumia, Say’ri, and my main girl Tiki, all great characters. But my favorite character will always be Robin, my favorite FE character in this series.
One of my favorite funny supports is Henry and Sumia. The two end up bouncing off each other so well, they're one of my favorite pairs. I'll always marry Henry with Sumia.
One of my favorites is Aversa and Morgan, Aversa gives some funny and questionable advice to Morgan
A support I would recommend is M!Robin and Aversa
Some of my favourite supports from this game in no particular order:
Cynthia x Severa (classic Epic Hero vs Ice Queen tale)
Panne x Frederick (one of a few about Frederick overcoming his fears)
Sully x Stahl (callback to Cain and Abel from Shadow Dragon)
Cordelia x Frederick (he basically praises her and she brushes it off)
Robin x Cordelia (the latter hated being called a genius but eventually embraced it. Also the first character I S-ranked)
Henry x Olivia (he had a soft spot for animals despite his reputation)
Donnel x Mirabel (a nice student-teacher dynamic)
Kellam x Tharja (a rare Tharja support that doesn't involve Robin in any way)
Say'ri x Tiki (Tiki's character is inconsistent but I'm not complaining)
and finally...
Lon'qu x Cherche (some world building on Lon'qu's past. Also not surprised that Cherche would name her wyvern after the Wyvern General of Grust)
Some of the most amusing ones are when you compare Tharja and M. Robin's supports to Lissa and M. Robin's supports. I'm not joking when I say they legitimately mirror each other and how they both approach each other. Tharja wants to try and keep Robin close while being socially awkward. Lissa on the other hand tries to be more mischievous just the way Tharja is doing to try and keep others away.
Fun fact considering the fan theories about who he ends up with it actually seems to imply that something might have happened between all three of them in my opinion that is considering kid hair color and how that part of the game system worked.
I love fire emblem characters
This video only talks about the English localisation. The Castilian Spanish localisation just as good in my opinion, and it was got me into linguistics and localisation as a career. I wonder if the French, German, or Italian versions are just as good.
I didn't bother with Support since back in GBA days I didn't know how to trigger it.
