I'm an introvert with false bravado, meaning that I am adept at pretending to be an extrovert for set periods of time, but I actually am an introvert who NEEDS that alone time. As I've mentioned before, the main reason I've never applied for a cruise ship job is because of the combination of both never getting and day off, and having to share a cabin with someone. If it were one or the other, I could probably make it work. If I worked everyday but had a cabin to myself, then I'd have that opportunity hid in my hole and recharge while off shift. If I had a roommate but also had a day off, then I could just disappear during my days off and recharge that way. This is what allowed me to work at Disney World. I had a roommate, but we had days off, and our days did not coincide. So I would just spend my days off alone, while Mike was at work. But if I were ever in a position where I both had a roommate AND had to work everyday, AND I had to do it for months at a time....well....that might kill me.
Your videos always have such good information ❤❤❤. I wanted to be a cruise ship chef. I went to a vocational high school, and took culinary. Well plans changed lol. I met my now husband when we’re both 15. We’ve been together for 32 years and married for 26. I still could have been, but for me I decided to go another way.
You convinced me long ago that ship life would never work for me. The never really being off duty would make me crazy. The roommate thing would be a deal killing non-starter for me. I have lived alone far too long to be domesticated now, and I'm too old to make nice about it. I do think that land based resort life might appeal to you. It is fun to be part of the crew at a resort, and to become a local in a resort town, but it's also nice at the end of the day to sign out with your best Eric Cartman voice: "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"
Hi Lucy! 😁 It was really lovely to meet you at the cruise job fair in London and thank you for the advice you gave me! ❤️ I agree, going to events like that is worth it because it shows recruiters your real enthusiasm for working in ships. I personally had an incredible day in London on Thursday, everything I was told by recruiters sounded positive and overall it definitely made getting up at 5am and travelling from Devon well worth it! 😁❤️
Heeey, it was lovely to meet you too! I'm so glad you had a good day! It was my first job fair and I definitely agree that it was worth the early morning! Thanks for watching ❤️
Lucy, what a great video! And a super idea --- to correlate someone's personality-type with their prospective cruise-ship career choices.😀 Perhaps Cruisng-as-Crew Consulting will have a booth at the next fair (in Portugal)? Or maybe you could represent Virgin (send 'em an email)? In any case thanks for another cool video! Fair winds sweetie!
Great topic. I'd considered it a little regarding what position to pick, but not for the general environment. (Like a sales job you need to enjoy "solving" what a customer is looking for.) I now see why crew bar could be addictive! I know you became better adapted, but do you think your personality type actually changed over time?
Im an introvert or mostly introverted (its complicated). I think you could reach a place where asking your roommate to leave, even if you are on good terms, or even great terms might be overkill. I think so long as you let your roommate know that you need alone time, to be able to read a book or something and not talk for a while. Yes this still involves a certain level of communication, and yes those conversations are far easier to have when you are on good or great terms. But this 2nd option is a lot less of a soft way of achieving the same thing
Hi I am from India, I am 3rd Engineering officer in Merchant Cargo ship my shipping company also manages Cruise ships of different owner, expedition cruises, Marella cruises, hapag lloyd cruises and many more, these are some of them. should I shift into Cruise as 3rd engineer? I wanted to know do Engineer officers get separate cabin in cruise ship? because i am an introvert.
Kathy, batten-down your hatches for Hurricane Beryl! And, when he's gone, have a look at Lucy's career guides (which should have the answers for you) on her website. And/or, send her an email and ask? Good Luck!
I personally think your lipstick this time is a bit overpowered compared to your overall appearance Personally I think that more nude/dull tones look better on you

I firmly believe introverts can switch on/off depending on the situation in the cruise ship
I think that am half and half I love being around people and at times I just need to be alone

Hey John! Thank you so much.
Can you imagine if I was at the next fair. That would be great! Speak soon!
Thanks for the test link. I tested out at 93% introverted, so basically your exact opposite. I still like you anyway. 😍
In my perspective, im kinda introvert, but the environment helps me to learn how to be more socially open. Soo i like

If they are an introvert, don’t worry they’ll tell you 😂
Yeah. We tend to know that about our selves. Or if we don't tell you, we'll just hide until you figure it out.
I had tried to been a extrovert on my first contract and later I turned into a ambivert because of some toxic people...
Oh dear ha ha. Unfortunately it can happen. Thanks for watching. Xx

I know I would hate it.
Are you still with your boyfriend or is long distance not working
You mean "extrovert"?
Yes I did. Thank you x

Definitely an introvert until I get to work. That would be odd in your work space
Love you Lucy
