    Something you said in a previous video that you did before your first contract: go on a cruise as a passenger before working on a ship. It would have certainly helped that girl who couldn't get over the seasickness.

    I never worked on a cruise ship, but I worked on a giant Hydro Electric Project in the far north of Canada. Some people just got out of the plane, saw the tundra all around and decide right there that they are going back on the same plane!

    I’ve got info session interview Monday, I’m so ready for a change. I hope I can get an opportunity because I have nothing left to lose at this point lol Hopefully I can find a ship needs cosmetologist if not, I’ve been EVS Janitorial last 4 yrs. So not afraid to clean/house keep/laundry anything that’s hands on and not boring. Thank you for your tips and the breakdown of being on the ship 😅

    You are the Sweetest, thank you so much. I've completed my medical and am waiting to be scheduled for my MMC training in the US, Maryland once that is completed I will be board my ship in Honolulu NCL Cruiseline for the Hawaiian Islands. I've lived a very different background than most. I worked 72 to 80 hrs per week in a Nuclear Power plant for 12yrs as of recently I was a Commercial Semi Driver where I drove across the entire Country here in the US alone which is actually a 24hr job LOL. Plus being a female made all of this history a true adventure LOL to say the leat. I guess I lived my life with a no holds bared mentality of if I think I can be it. Granted I'm older now but I still have that drive and determination 😂 I only hope it doesn't take l9ng for me to get my Sealegs 😂😂 I hate nausea 🎉

      If it does happen, you get used to it after a week. If you don't take a tablet before getting on the ship you can go to medical and they will give you tablets if needed.
      I got used to it after a few days.

      Those cruise ships are huge and won't rock like a small fishing boat, you will probably be fine. Just don't look down because that tends to make nausea worse. I don't imagine it would be worse than driving a truck over a rough stretch of road?
      My daughter is mechanic's mate nuclear type on an aircraft carrier. She plans to move to Hawaii when she gets out of the navy this summer. I wonder if a cruise ship job would be good for her when her husband is underway on his submarine?

    Great Video, reminded me on my first contract. I finished my contract but i didn't even wanted to go back to the ships . It took me a while to make this decission. I changed to company and it took me about two month with all this feelings you were talking about, like why I am doing this again.... But after about two month i started to enjoy it. I was at sea for 17 years until covid change everything

    Thanks for the constant videos you post Lucy; Power to you over there. I have been watching your videos for some time now and you motivated me to make the decision on joining a cruise ship line. I got my TWIC card and now waiting on my medical appointment dates for NCL.
    Here are some cool ideas for your next videos:
    Give a break down on what to expect in MMC training? Exams? How many? How hard are they? -Do you need to know how to swim before going to MMC? How much time do you get off in that week?
    -Are there any limitations or disabilities that are allowed to get accepted for the job(s)?
    -Can you have and play your very own musical instrument while working in the cruise ship (Like to learn how to play an accordion on my time off)?
    -Are cell phones restricted to have while on the job? Can you have and use a small drone to record footage of the ship and the ocean?
    -Are Videogames encouraged? Do roommates get together and make an entertainment center in their room for movies and games?
    -Are there any casino bets going on in ship?
    -Knowing the internet is spotty, are people allowed to invest in stocks and cryptos?
    -Are there any fun activities for employees to do during the week? special fun raffles to win prizes? Is there a consoler on board to help people with mental needs?

      You won't have time nor energy to do any of the things you mentioned. You're on duty 24/7 and don't get out of your uniform. Unless of course, you plan not to sleep. When you're in a job of service to others and live in a 📦 floating on an ocean/sea you'd better be sure the management will milk the life out of you non stop. If you're not a captain or entertainer, you will also share your cabin so any activity you wanna do must get the approval of your cabin colleague.

    Could you do a video on gifting Crew Members? I don't think you've answered this before. Of course tips are great, but what about small gifts from passengers? Is there anything that would be best to gift? Are there things people don't like being gifted? Do you have a favorite gift? I'm sure some lines of business get this more then others, same with tips, does this lead to any animosity on this ship? Are there people that deserve gifts that don't get them? And what are the tipping rules, aside from included tips. Who to tip? How much??

    Always before joining, 2-3 hours before, take a seasickness pill, I would get terrible seasickness, but take the over the counter pills with you, and take well before embarking, if you start to feel queasy, it's too late. Failing that, a tot of something for 'medicinal' purposes, and you'll be the only one not throwing up!
    Never go to sea if you have problems back home, to sort your head out - it will only be worse. If in a relationship it must be strong and stable, if there is such a thing.

    • @sheldondmanson
      @sheldondmanson 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I fully agree on the "sort your head out" part, on my first contract this girl joined and had deep problems and as the months went on she became toxic to everyone around her that worked with her, I tried to be friendly to her while we worked together but it didn't work out, and eventually the 12 hour days and job tasks took a toll on her health during the last few months onboard - she was constantly sick being on and off work. She managed to finish the contract but I don't think she would return to the ships.

    Great video. One happened to you on your first contract, was the same that happened to me. I could not afford to fly back home, so I stayed and did three contracts on ships. I wish I had done more, but I could not handle that Princess Cruises was paying me a lot less as a Shop Staff, than almost everyone else, because of my nationality.

    Working on a cruise ship seem similar to joining the military or working at a national park for a season (USA). A video covering your magnetic wall would be appreciated, when you don't have more important topics to cover. Off the bulkhead question, what percentage of the crew usually choose to pair up? From you other posts, it appears the single crew members can have as much fun as the couples.

    Lucy, thanks for another nice video. BTW, self-reliance, working long hours, and following clients rules (meeting their requirements), are all criteria that are also important for starting and running your own business.😀Another reason you're successful with Cruising-as-Crew! A question that comes up in your comments often is regarding revolut / wise, etc., and other banking cards / apps, so maybe another video dealing with them in more detail?
    As for more video suggestions, when you get back on-board doing some interviews with the bridge officers, engineers, IT system engineers, and other "tech" crew, would be great. (as well as some vlogs of the ports, of course) Have a good Palm Sunday / Happy Easter and Fair Winds! 😀

    Hi Lucy, I have a potential topic for discussion. You mentioned in previous videos that cruise lines fly crew from their home country to wherever their ship is docked, but do cruise lines also cover the cost of getting crew from their home town or city to the departure airport? And also getting crew from the arrival airport to the ship?
    For example if I wasn’t from the UK and my ship was sailing from Southampton, and the cruise line flew me into Heathrow Airport, would they also cover the train journey from London to Southampton? This, about the intermediate travel, is something I’ve been keen to know about 😊

    • @sheldondmanson
      @sheldondmanson 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you live close by the departure port, usually the cost is cheap so we have to pay for it ourselves. I'm not sure how it would work between London and Southampton, if there is a airport there then they will fly you to Southampton and someone will take you to the ship.
      When leaving the ship at the end of the contract, the company pays for the transport to the hotel and the next day to the airport (only sometimes this happens) or directly from the ship to the airport, and they cover the cost for the flight home.

      In cases of a treatment that can not be done on-board, the medical team schedule for the next port an appointment. In your work team, your manager receive this request from medical team so, that day you don't work due to shoreside medical appointment. I hope I was clear :)
