  • In this video, we're going to show you how we transform this cargo trailer with beautiful LED Lighting!
    We'll start by installing electrical rough in, and then we'll install our LED lighting. This cargo trailer went from dull and dreary to amazing in just a few short hours, and it was all done with just a few simple tools and a little bit of know-how! Watch the video to see how it's done!
    We also run electrical circuits for an exterior rear facing backup camera, an interior rear facing cargo camera and backup LED reverse lights. The LED recessed lights blend in with the existing metal for a clean finished look. Interesting tips for designing and building your own DIY cargo trailer.

    LED lighting is a new thing for all of us to learn. Lots of options that we never had before.. . The number is the color,, WARM (kinda yellowish) is in the 3000 range, NATURAL is in the 4000 to 5000 range, COOL (very white) is in the high 5000 to 7000 range. Take a look at a Kelvin Color Temperature Scale chart... Some of the newer, fancy (expensive) units are switchable so you can pick and change as you see fit.. I bought the cheap ones on EBay that are sold as 120v AC and just didn't use the drivers that came with them.. Sometimes they act funny so there was a learning curve with those too.. There are also mini 12/24v flood lights that work really well.....

    Great job; I agree that those Scotch Locks are crap; I removed all from my trailer like you did. I also ran all my grounds back to the battery terminal junction instead of trusting the trailer as a cage ground. I also ran a wire for a future review camera when I added a cargo loading light.

    That's awesome Brandon! I did the opposite, did welding right out of high school, then went back to school and an apprenticeship for a 309A C&M license 😂 and now I'm back working as a welder (never really stopped, did welding as a side gig for years).

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh that's funny. The odd thing is ever since I was 5 I wanted to be an electrician, then once I got it, I got bored. I started in residential and that was like pumping out widgets 24/7 then we started doing industrial work but it was too slow paced. I got to keep moving. I can't do the same thing over and over for very long. If I can't use my brain and hands together, I get bored really quick. After that is when I got into welding full time. I actually did HDPE pipelines for a bunch of years and owned a bunch of machines but metal work has always been a big part of my life. When I was 17 I built what I called a bed extender. I tried to get a lawyer and patent it but at 17 I was broke and we didnt have internet so i couldnt figure out on my own what i needed to do instead of paying someone to tell me. Someone actually went on to build and market my idea. Go figure lol

    • @apexcustomsmokers
      @apexcustomsmokers ปีที่แล้ว

      @Brandon Lund I hear that! Residential electrical (all low voltage really) wasn't my cup of tea either. I've always been good at troubleshooting, having a puzzle to figure out while working with my hands. That sucks about the bed extender, but look at you now, all the people you help with this channel, and the community that's been built is just awesome!

      Thanks Chis! Years ago I had a 6x12 wells cargo. Towed it almost daily for 8 years. This one is 7x16 all aluminum and tows like nothing is there. This is my first ever all aluminum trailer and first time ever towing one. If your budget allows, the aluminum is the way to go. Saves on gas, tows awesome and in our climate with rust from snow and salt it's almost a must. Problem is the prices are nuts for these things.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahahahaha the only other person I've ever heard say busier than a one armed paper hanger is my dad. This just made me chuckle. He passed in 2011. For those that don't know, installing wall paper is called "hanging". It requires skill and the use of both hands. Having just one hand would keep him busy. Thanks for this Chris, and I agree I love the look. I'm only wondering if I should have gone with a whiter color, but overall I love the simple clean look.

      @@BrandonLund i like how you did the harness. I was thinking about how i did the police harnesses for the light bar. We made connectors you can make to plug into each other, you make pins and push them into each other.sorta like the trailer hitches….but it makes for much more difficult. I think you did a great job.} did you put the lights with an inline fuse? That would keep anything from burning up.. i might have put the wires in a wire loom….just reduces fraying..then you could attach em. Just a suggestion since i noticed you are very thoughtful about what you expect. Im glad i could make you laugh a bit. My great grandmother would say pie lickin jobs are over..get off your rocker and get to work. She was from novia scotia and farm gal….she always had a nice way of telling people where to get going..my dad died 2 years ago.

    Looks great. I'm not a fan of warm lighting because it's not bright enough. Gives everything an antique look. If you increase the voltage a little (a boost buck) you will be able to increase the brightness of those lights. Then add a dimmer switch to control the level of power running to the lights. The lights would possibly shorten the life of the lights (that's what the dimmer is for, not running full power constantly) but then give you a reason to replace with the bright white when they burn out. You probably know all this because you were an electrician.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Going into this I was worried that a whiter light would be too much glare in this all white space but looking at it now I probably would have been ok. It looks cozy for sure at night.

  • @bobc.5324
    @bobc.5324 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking good! The warm white should be plenty bright as close as they are, with everything white inside you might have gotten too much glare from the bright white. Running the extra wires with labels is the best way to go, makes things so much easier and faster for future hookups. Great job!

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BrandonLund

      Thanks Dave! Those trim pieces were actually on the trailer from the factory, they were just mounted about an inch lower. The factory used them to hide the wires that run from the front to the back of the trailer. You could duplicate them pretty easy if you went to a vinyl siding place they could probably make these for you pretty easily. I would say the face is about 4 inches wide and the mounting flange is just a 45 degree bend on each end about 3/4 long.
