      Exactly , it's almost mandatory for psychologist in my country to see one, if you are a psychologist you need to know yourself in order to treat a patient right without being affected by them and their emotions and consulting another psychologist helps you with that.
      Ppl need to stop thinking psychologist can't be psychologist if they have problems, we are still all humans and from my experience psychologist who have experienced depression or things like are handling their patients better because thye know how it feels.
      However you shouldn't get patients if your mental state isn't ideal for your patient

      One of my rental properties for years had a hoarder living in both apartments in the duplex. They paid rent on time but they were just dirty slobs. I had to go in multiple times to clean up and again when both died a few years ago. The one got so mad when I threw out her mayo. It was sitting open on the table next to her chair. It was turning brown. She said she was going to eat it. I had to clean all her dishes. She put her dishes, pots, pans everything back in the cabinets dirty. Food caked to them she just kept eating off them and she ate she was probably 400-500lbs. She must have scooted on her ass naked across the living room like a dog once because there was a giant skidmark the whole way through the room. She flushed Walmart bags for some reason and didn't bother to say anything or attempt to fix it herself so instead she wore diapers and shit her pants then threw the diapers into the bathtub. So she wasn't showering or anything and she was to lazy to throw out shit filled diapers I had to do it. I didn't know about it till her plumbing started leaking into the laundry room below her bathroom that was shared. So I go to fix that shitty washer and dryer and find shit filled diapers above. Made me extra happy to clean that up. Can't imagine being such a lazy fat slob you can't even throw out your shitty diapers. The one on the other side didn't like having to go upstairs to go to his bathroom so he would just piss in the trash can in his kitchen or open the window and pee out the window. I had to replace the heater for that side once he was pissing into the vent in the floor that eventually made its way into the furnance.

    Hoarding is so hard to understand and so sad. My friend’s mother was a hoarder. Believe it or not, it was worse than this. There was a narrow pathway through their house but everything was piled to the ceiling.
    Unfortunately, her mother died from brain cancer when Merlinna was only 20. So Merlinna became responsible for the walls and walls of hoarding that her mother had created over the years. It’s tough to understand and it’s sad. People usually don’t recover from it, even with help and support.

      Yeah I was raised by my grandmother, who’s a hoarder. She only now in her 70s allowing me to go through her stuff. I’m grateful she’s accepting my help, she used to go through my trash when I threw things out “just in case” so she’s come a long way.
      I also started hoarding when I was younger but thankfully Hoarders helped motivate me to change that.

They help depressed people deal with their emotions and explain why their homes/apartments have gotten to where they are. Then a whole team comes in and cleans their house top to bottom. THE ROACHES 😫 I do feel bad for the families but I do think that it’s selfish for them to bring animals and pets because a lot of the times they end up dying or getting crushed, even getting sickness I think they shouldn’t put another living being through it but they need help understanding what’s wrong

      I think a big problem is that over time this has become somewhat “normal” to them. Honestly, if you've ever had the misfortune of living in a place infested with roaches you know despite the clean floors roaches still rule that house. Especially since they haven't cleaned everything yet. Before I saw her bathroom I thought maybe they had fumigated but considering the bathroom is still not decluttered there are roaches everywhere still. In the television for sure. It's gross where they choose to make their nests but it happens everywhere once you're infested. (I lived in a motel converted to apartments once that was roach-infested and it was absolutely horrific. When I moved out roaches followed me in my belongings to the next place I lived and we had to fumigate and treat roaches for a period after moving in)

    I live in an apartment and we got roaches, hard to get rid of them when there’s tenants who have varying degrees of the definition ‘clean.’ But we keep our apartment quite clean and leave traps for them, replace our dog’s water and food and when he does see a roach, he just stares at it for a bit then goes back to napping. Its minding its own business and our dog is minding his own business lol. But goddamn this video pissed me right off when it showed the roach in the dog’s food segment, what’s the point of owning a pet if you can’t take of the environment you’re putting it in? It’s just neglect and/or abuse at that point.

    • @AdenSerenity
      @AdenSerenity 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Bed bugs, maybe. Whether you get them has nothing to do with how clean you are. But when a hoarder does get them it's really unlikely they'll be able to get rid of them, since a proper extermination would require the mess to be cleaned up first.
      Bed bugs would be more likely to be hiding in the clutter in and around the bed, though, not crawling in her hair. They're too clumsy to crawl around in hair without just falling off when you move around, mostly, and they don't have any reason to go there anyway.

You can see them crawling on the walls and floor. The renter had just a mattress in the living room, not in his bedroom because the infestation was worse there. I lifted a stack of newspapers in his bathroom and hundreds of baby cockroaches ran out. I left immediately. I still have nightmares.

To know if you will bald early or not you really just have to look at your father and ask him when started balding, most men tend to start in their mid 30's anyway. • @akirebara
      @akirebara 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      To add to the other person’s reply, the common denominator of hoarders is that they have big trauma/s they experience and that’s when they start hoarding. Usually it’s a loss of a loved one. They try to surround themselves with materials to kind of psychologically fill the void they feel. You know when you feel sad and depressed and you just want to wrap yourself burrito-style in a blanket and cry in your bed all day? It’s like that, but on a bigger, house-scale. It’s really something.

    Everyone needs therapy or help every now and then. Just to clear up the stigma.

    I remember being severely depressed a few years ago. My room looked kind of similar to this (smaller scale though, no roaches and stuff just rotting foods and trash), and it didn't really phase me at that time because I just stopped caring about everything. I saw no point in doing things because I was in a habit of convincing myself that everything was pointless.
    I think the thing that pulled me out of that mindset was finally finding what I wanted to do with my life, and then subsequently coming to the realisation through logic that I won't be able to live that way with that mindset. From there I began gradually shifting myself back to some sort of "normal" through firstly cleaning my room from as much clutter as I could (still some extra things in there because of lack of space elsewhere, but getting rid of those things soon), and then setting myself a daily schedule and forcing myself to complete it.
    It's really difficult to get out of situations like this when you're already deep in them, because you're forced to give up what you've become familiar with entirely if you want to turn things around, and it's tough to do so because at the same time your living environment becomes your primary source of comfort and sometimes the only thing you're familiar with. Depending on how long you've been in this situation, and how severe your situation, you also may have to re-teach yourself basically everything in terms of self care, control etc. It's embarrassing to admit that you have a problem that's this bad, but at the same time it's completely necessary to acknowledge otherwise a full recovery isn't possible.
    In my case, therapy wasn't an option, it actually just made my depression worse because the therapist was only there for the money, so I stopped going and had to go through this battle myself.
    Luckily I managed to beat my own depression, I still get mild cases occasionally due to another condition I'm currently in the middle of dealing with, but the furthest it gets is a plate of food left out overnight or something nowadays.
    I'm very grateful for TV shows like hoarders that show the impacts that such conditions can have on those suffering and also others around them. Even though it shows these struggles publicly, and these struggles are more on the long-term severe end of the spectrum most of the time, it's one of those conversations that needs to be had but people find it difficult to talk about. Shows like these help to demonstrate to people that misinterpret conditions or don't really understand what the reality is like to suffer from them that it's a debilitating illness, not some sort of aesthetic or personality quirk..

    This proves two things:
    1. No one is immune to psychological disorders. One can be really good at taking care of other people yet be neglectful of him/herself due to unresolved issues which manifests as disorders if not properly addressed.
    2. Psychological disorders can be managed if not fully treated. This is through therapy, support from loved ones and insight as seen on the video.
    So happy for her! Recovery is possible everyone! ❤️

  • @jzchillin
    @jzchillin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +76

    really interesting that she is a psychologist who treats addiction... definitely a "Do as I say, not do as I do" scenario with her... I recall the first time I'd ever heard of hoarding was on an Oprah show a long time ago and similar situation where a lady (with 3 dogs) not only was reluctant to throw things away, but didn't even clean up after her dogs, and the poop was everywhere... the show paid for professional cleaners to redo her place (and you could see the lady had problems throwing stuff away, as everything meant something to her)... and when they revisited her some time later, she was slipping back into her old habits, and that's when they had her see a psych and she was diagnosed as a hoarder.... can't recall if she ever totally recovered or not.... it was disgusting.....

    My grandma had a medium case of hoarding (I couldn’t go upstairs in their house for almost 20 years because it got so full), my dad has a mild case, and honestly sometimes I feel like I get a bit of it sometimes too. The executive functioning messes up and I’m sitting here going “JUST. SWEEP. THE FLOOR. JUST. DO IT!!!” and I can’t. And once the clutter starts it’s hard to stop and it just gets more and more depressing. I don’t have that much stuff (except craft supplies and books lol but I feel like a little bit of accumulation there is normal haha) so it can never get that bad, but it’s still rough.
    Anyway, I get grossed out easily so I’ve never watched this show, but it’s sobering to see. Hope I never get that bad!
