I don't like people assuming. I want to clear out that laughing solely at sexual assault is bad. But us humans have a way of laughing at bad things if we mix it with a weird thought. It could be that he laughed at something other than the video. Something he thought about from his every today life. Or thought of some part earlier in the video.
When did I say it was okay for laughing at sexual assault? Again, you assumed. This is why I hate cancel culture. If harry didn't save himself, the bad part of the internet would go wild. They would only spread the message ''Harry laughs at woman getting raped''. If you want to cancel someone then you must know exactly what harry's intent was.
There was a time when I went to a public restroom. I farted loudly and then for some reason I laughed because I knew someone heard me (Idk why I laughed). Normally people would have been embarassed but I laughed instead
( I later felt embarrased). I know it's not as bad as sexual assault but people laugh at the weirdest/strangest things.

Please understand that there is a connection between poverty and hoarding. When you have lost everything before it is hard to let go of anything. Sickness and injury can start the prosses but getting help is hard to find. People who live like this know it's wrong, hate themselves, and hate the way they live but can not mentally break the problem. They want to change more than anything it's just truly impossible without help. We should be encourageing the development of programs that help people within their home break the cycle. Telling someone to clean isn't going to work you got to help clean, monitor progress, and do check ins. Providing psychiatric help will help as well. (I came from this environment as a child and and learned first hand what it is really like to be a hoarder.)

this is all very true, it’s so sad to see, hoarding really is just a mental illness not in the sense of you were born with it but we’re given it through rough life situations, and it’s very sad to watch. I hope everyone that is going through this gets better cause it’s a very rough situation

all of this is rooted in mental health, theres almost always some sort of trauma that triggers it. for my mom it was extreme depression after my dad died. ethan, i love you an youre one of my favorite sidemen, but its not that easy. my mom and i wish it was, but its not. and try slapping physical injuries and illness onto your mental health. youre not going to do much around the house if you dont care about yourself

I hope Ethan's okay, or at least talks things out with people around him. He makes too many comments about suicide and that makes me question how often he's thinking about things like that. It may seem like they're in jest, or in relation to the videos etc... but they're likely coping mechanisms. I remember in his documentary he went in to some detail about darker times in his life. I hope that him and the rest of Sidemen are close enough to have some sort of open dialogue with one another about those sorts of things.

Just wanted to say, Hording is a mental disorder most of the time related to OCD. It isn't a case of ignoring the trash. For these people it is typically a coping mechanism, so they need help to stop even if they know it is a problem.

Depends I guess. For me, it's just laziness also. I think I need to throw out these 6 pizza bottles and 20 bottles from under my bed. But yeah, usually there comes a time when I clean up, then start hoarding again, etc.. It has never been to that level, but knowing my personality, it might if I don't clean up every so often.

I hope Ethan knows this extreme hoarding is a addiction/disease for most people you just can’t overcome it easily it takes time and rehabilitation to learn to not do it just like drugs lol. Of course some are from traumatic experiences in there life, but most are just from habit and addictions.
I don't think any of them understand the level of mental illness this generally comes with. This video was just ignorant because they're cracking jokes at these people and telling them "just clean it up" and it'll just cause others watching this to have the same viewpoint. The people in this video need help, just like anyone else with a mental illness does. You wouldn't tell a schizophrenic to "stop having delusions".

In the video also the woman got raped by her ex-bf and the coping mechanism she has was to hoard.
Hoarding actually starts from childhood trauma and the fear of letting things go. It also can come from a severe fear of change. It’s horrid and many can’t bring them selfs to change it

I’ve been so proud of seeing Ethan talk about his mental health more recently and it’s really validated so many of my own feelings to see someone that successful also struggles with mental illness. The comment/joke he made that Simon replid to with “Have you thought about seeing a therapist?” is a comment/joke I make all the time. Its a coping mechanism and I don’t mean to make them because I know it’s makes others worry and it’s doesn’t always mean I’m in a bad place but I still make them anyway, so I emphasize and understand why he makes them. And because he’s been more open I thought maybe he would understand these people’s situations a little better and have a bit more empathy. It’s disappointing to see that he didn’t in this video. I don’t horde, but I understand why these people maybe do. These people have massive amounts of trauma and other reasons they can’t just “clean it up” and “throw stuff out”. It’s so much deeper than that. I really really love and respect Ethan, but I really hope he takes time to educate himself and have a bit more empathy for these people and their struggle.

I know some of Ethan's comments were of that uneducated nature, but there reaches a tipping point when people are neglecting an animal like the 2nd to last one. You must agree there is a line - just like someone cannot harm another human being because of their mental health problems, it is unacceptable for them to allow animal cruelty. While I am fully aware depression and trauma can deeply affect someone's life, the majority of those who face those struggles retain their humanity throughout it and do not cross that line.

I’m sorry if it came across that I thought all of his comments were insensitive and uneducated. But a majority of them were. And as someone with mental illness like anxiety I’ve gotten so used to hearing comments like “It’s just in your head” and “just breath” and “just calm down”. Those convey the same message as what Ethan said about “just clean it up” or “text one of your mates to help you clean it up”. It invalidates a struggle he’s never been through and doesn’t understand.

What the fuck kind of replies did I just read?
As someone who has struggled with hoarding as a result of mental illness and chronic pain (I'm much better than I used to be, but it's a constant process), it's honestly really reassuring to see so many understanding people in these comments. Modern society engrains ableism in us from a young age, and so many things that people are often judged for are directly linked to disability, but it's really easy to not think of making that connection, because we're quite literally trained to think people who don't fit into the social norm are just lazy, or weird, or gross. Empathy is incredibly important, and it's just really great to see so much of it in these comments.
It's not about discipline, it's a mental illness. There is trauma that starts it all.

My dad is a hoarder which is something really hard to deal with having to see him and see these surrounds he lives in but refuses to let anyone touch his stuff or help its a mental health issue like any other and i think people should be more understanding not shame people that suffer from it as it usually stems from other unresolved issues or trauma in their life

My grandma lost two husbands and a son in the span of 3 years and developed severe depression and hoarding as a result, which led to dementia, in an attempt to keep any memories she had left of them. It took over 3 days and an entire dumpster to clear out her apartment (including a dead possum in the garage) after it became inhabitable, then all the junk slowly trickled back in. Throwing away what may appear to be junk to you, may be priceless memories for them, big love to you guys but getting someone to do it for you easier said than done.
Love you boys, but please try to keep in mind that hoarding is a mental illness. Most, if not all, of these people have gone through something traumatic to get this way. I get the shock, but the shaming may not be the smartest move.

These people are clearly distressed by their situation, so if they felt equipped to make any changes, then I'm sure they would never have gotten into such a mess. Hoarding is never a choice - it's often a result of severe mental health issues and/or trauma. These people will struggle for a while, become overwhelmed, and will soon feel utterly powerless. This is not a 'practical' problem, it's a psychological one. And, quite honestly, this video was tone-deaf.

And every single person from the original video has more than earnt such a diagnosis. Remember, many people with physical conditions like hers will also struggle with their mental health; these two states are not mutually exclusive. It may look like she was making excuses to those who can't put themselves in her position, but someone with solely a physical medical condition would not hoard in such a way. To further reference my previous reply, even if she could afford to hire a cleaner, I don't think many normal cleaners would be equipped to tackle such a challenge. Where would you go for help if you were in her situation? There sadly isn't a lot of support around for those who struggle with such debilitating mental health conditions.
No one would ever choose to live in a house like that. It's understandable that some of you will struggle to empathise with these people, but that's exactly why this video is so dangerous; it's spreading damaging misconceptions, which will intensify the stigmas attached to hoarding, and will shame those who actually have to endure it, potentially preventing them from getting help and even fuelling their symptoms, especially if they look up to and trust the opinions of these boys. It is dangerous to invalidate a person who struggles with their mental health. They have interpreted hoarding as some would interpret depression; hoarding is not simply about 'being untidy', just as depression is not simply about 'feeling sad'. They are serious medical disorders, and they must be treated as such.

Another thing that disturbed me in this video was the fact that Simon and Harry were slowly beginning to be influenced by Ethans Inconsiderate and rambunctious ways. A lot of these people don't ask for help because they're ashamed and scared that people will judge them. They want to change and get help, but many of them don't know who to go to. It's really sad

Ethan, I was a hoarder for about four years after I lost my Mom and boxes of items of hers came to my place. Takes a while to get the courage to sort through stuff. Eventually some people can slowly get through it, others not so much as it's overwhelming to them. I was depressed as I am sure many of these people were. There are lots of reasons a place gets over run with items.

I know Eathan has had struggles in the past but being so harsh towards people like he has been doing from the video he needs to understand mental health happens in many ways. Depression can cause problems to keep places "clean" it becomes harder. Even with anxiety and OCD and other mental disorders...
I understand they are making content, therefore making some very mean spirited comments, but I wish they get to read some of the comments, specially Ethan, so they can realize that it is tied to mental health, rather than just being lazy for the sake of being so. I hope Ethan is okay as well, he seems off at times and rather a bit sad, thus compensating sometimes in the videos

Hoarding is technically classed as a mental illness it’s self and is caused by depression etc I’ve been through it myself :(

Personally this video kinda hit hard on me cause I live in a like mild version of a “hoarders” from as long as I can remember. My mother suffers from depression which is why the house got so bad. The rooms we live in are quite messy apart from mine and my sisters room. And we have tried to clean but it ends up in a full blown argument cause my mum and dad wants to keep stuff. So we’ve just givin up.
It gets to the point where now I can’t have my friends over cause I’m simply embarrassed, we have a room that looks like one from these shows, the rest of the house is just very messy.
Ngl Ethan has really pissed me off, it’s not as easy as asking for help.

Maybe ethan took it a teeny bit far, but the general idea of what he was saying I agree with. Obviosuly these people can't just turn their lives around as soon as someone tells them to, but the fact that it even got to this point is very frustrating. As a matter of fact, I don't feel bad for them. For most of the people, these situations stem from untreated mental illnesses. If they had tried to work through those problems in the earlier stages, none of this would have happened. I understand that for a lot of people struggling with mental health, it can be a long process to get better. However, that does not excuse this type of behavior. Of course it depends on the exact situation and context (like how willing they are to get better), but I cannot genuinely tell you that I respect these people. Also I am very surprised that you read the entirety of this rant. Thank you for your time

I’m not a hoarder but a single mum of two special/medical needs kids. It’s easy for things to get away. I still have a some tubs of baby toys & clothes that need to go. But they are bottom of the list of priorities. Hence getting to my youngest being 6 and still having them. I feel for these people because do have mental health issue, limited support and low funds.

Let’s not excuse harmful and unhealthy lifestyles due to mental illness and trauma. Yes it’s sad but it effects them and affects those around them in negative ways. Being sympathetic 24/7 may sound nice but it in long term only encourages the bevhavior

So I do have a friend who’s mother is turning into this. His mother has very bad mental health problems, and tbh she’s just given up. Without my friend cleaning her home it won’t be clean, and obviously he can’t do that every day/week because he’s busy as well. So sadly it’s just a mental health thing
