- Cormac Smith has worked in Public Relations and Corporate Communications for over three decades. In 2016 he travelled to Ukraine to take up a special appointment as the ‘Strategic Communication Advisor’ to Pavlo Klimkin, then the Foreign Minister of Ukraine. He was attached to the British Embassy in Kyiv but was embedded in Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first foreigner to hold such a position. While in Kyiv, he also advised and provided training for five other government ministries and worked directly with three other cabinet ministers: Health, Education and the Deputy Prime Minister.

Philip has extensive business experience, especially in steel manufacturing. And one of our former Presidents, Kuchma, was actually from Juzhmash. He notoriously gave away our nuclear weapons too, and he was a proponent of balancing between West and Russia, what was a mistake from today's point of view.
@@bennyboy5374 To my knowledge the Neptun antiship missiles and modifications made out of those are Ukrainian tech, not American. You are aware that Soviet ballistic and cruise missiles were designed and manufactured in Ukraine? Not all but good part. Ukraine also produced nukes. The equipment was decommissioned with the Budapest deal and Ukraine gave its nukes, missiles and strategic bombers to Russia against security guarantees from USA, UK and Russia, and in lesser extent from France. As these countries said after Russia's attack in 2022, that the agreement is not legally binding and they don't need to send troops to help Ukraine, I suppose Ukraine is free to resurrect their nuclear weapons program.

yes, very good, but one problem needs to be resolved and it is big and urgent, why do all Americans and Brits fall for the Russian propaganda lie about the chaos and the civil war that will break out once Russia decolonizes? this is insane, there is no indication for this happening, 1991 nothing of that sort happened and if you look at Russia's population today, they go and fight because they get paid, they will never fight for something else, they will steal and maybe hurt a neighbour when they steal their car, but not start a nuclear war with the West, because everything they need is in the West, remember, Russia produces nothing much, everything is imported, imagine Russia falls apart and let's say regional governors take over, they will need the West to organize and trade for what they need, this will keep them busy, imagine 15 smaller Russia's , each one of them will never be strong enough to harm us🤡

If Philip is correct in saying that the US and German governments might restrict Ukraine from attacking oil refineries and storage depots, or even electrical power generation and distribution infrastructure within arbitrarily designated Russian sanctuaries, I believe that would be a major strategic error. Any facilities which can directly or even indirectly affect Russian forces' ability to make further military progress on Ukraine's eastern front or in Kursk are completely legitimate targets for attack. In point of fact, Ukraine has already made successful drone strikes on those types of targets with good effect despite the fact that explosive payloads delivered by long range UAVs are significantly less than those carried by ATACMs and Storm Shadows. Drone delivered attacks are therefore more psychologically symbolic and less effective in an operational or tactical sense.
Ukraine walks a tactical tightrope, because the implicit threat by important allies that they might halt the supply of long range precision attack munitions, unfairly limits Kyiv's operational flexibility in eliminating Russian threats to its own civilian population centers, and lessens its chances of bringing this brutal war to a successful conclusion. We saw what happened in Vietnam when the Johnson Administration made Haiphong Harbor and large swaths of Laos and Cambodia off limits to American and South Vietnamese air power. It spelled existential disaster for the Republic of Vietnam.
It is not that easy. Half of the West, Trump, MAGA, his cults cry WW3 every day.
The United States always chooses the best option when all other options are exausted... Winston Churchill said something similar.
Bear in mind that ATACMS range is around 190 miles and Storm Shadow range is about 340 miles. JASSMS, air launched cruise miles that have been talked about, have a range of about 230 miles. Ukraine is also working on its own Palyanytsia ballistic missile which is expected to have a range somewhere around 375 miles. Meanwhile strikes by Ukrainian drones have already traveled to Moscow: 670 miles, Murmansk: 1800 miles and Omsk: 2100 miles. Russia is an extremely large country, The majority of refineries tend to be in the western, i.e more accessible, part of Russia, but the main UralVagonZavod tank factory is located in the Urals at Nizhny Tagil, some 1600 miles from Ukraine.

We are not going to announce the permission to strike targets inside russia before it happens!!, like the storm shadow arrival without announcement had more affect. But as i keep saying a storm shadow missile is for bunkers or deep penatration , i suppose it could target air base communication tower or power buildings, but the runways and functionality if these bases need wiping out. So the f16 can carry side arms that can do just that so i wouldn't give up on Ukraine hitting these targets anyway or a surprise appearance of our missiles

We are watching, in real time, current political figureheads replaying past events. From the German guard, Schultz, in the comedy “Hogan’s Heroes” saying…. “I see nothing, I know nothing” to modern-day Chamberlains ‘Biden their time’. Politicians remain the same, doing whatever they see is best in their own selfish interests and ignoring the openly obvious plights of helpless innocents. Where are the Winston Churchills of today when you need them?
Speculation on my part but I know several American oil and gas corporations have been in Russia for building or maintaining the facilities.
French oil and gas, German corporations lie Siemens have had a large investment in the Russian infrastructure.
Would these push for "timidity" on the parts of the various governments? It's quite possible.
Regardless, this timidity is nonsense when an entire country is facing annihilation.

Given that the Russian economy is deteriorating, that the country is run by a murderous thug, that Russia has stolen these companies' investments there, and that the future Russian political situation is uncertain, I'd be surprised if many companies would be dying to go back into Russia. One can't underestimate the power of greed, but I expect most Russians will be much poorer and less able to afford foreign goods after this is all over, while corporations will see Russia as an unreliable and untrustworthy partner.
Mr. Smith & Colonel Ingram are a great return panel, hopefully they become regular return guests, pretty much well on par, with Mark Toth & Jon Sweet as a well integrated combo pair that knows their stuff. One more point, about the secrecy of the Kursk operation - last years summer "counter offensive, the original plan was to go cut the land bridge in the territory of the Karkhovka Dam, and because everyone blabbed about it, the Russians blew the dam and f**ked up our plan. THat's part of the reason the counter never worked, that and the Sorovikin line, but we'd chosen the weakest point to hit at it and the flooding of the land in that region ruined that, probably, as Jonathon intimated, the plans got leaked to the Kremlin via Washington.
i'm a yank hawk and i doubt Wa. leaked that. If we eventually they/we did, ppl like me will hold us accountable, not that it matter in retro for Ukr but it might financially, ie perhaps US /we will assist Ukr more in rebuildling if we actually were severely incompetent in that way, by leaking to the most psycopathic sadists in late modern history, aka 'russians'.

NATO provided long-range guided missiles to Ukraine? An alternative approach could be to supply Ukraine immediately, regardless of cost, with the materials and knowledge transfer necessary to develop its own long-range weapons and electronic navigation systems. This would reduce NATO's direct involvement while empowering Ukraine to defend itself.
NATO must refrain from delivering long-range weapons to Ukraine to avoid escalating tensions with Russia. Putin has warned that such weapons, used with NATO satellite assistance, would be seen as direct NATO involvement in the conflict. If Russia perceives this as an act of war, it may retaliate by targeting NATO satellites, which could lead to a broader conflict or even World War III. The risk of nuclear escalation would increase significantly, endangering global security. Therefore, an immediate alternative is essential.
So western countries should go deeper into debt so that Ukraine might win?
So cause Putin warned against long range missiles NATO should jump to that tune? Look at what Russia is doing in it's illegal attack on a neighbour state. Ukraine needs to stop the glide bombs being sent from Russian territory. Suggest a better way?

The training of Ukrainian pilots for F-16 is organized worse than arts and crafts class in school. USA said they can train maximum 10 pilots a year. How is that possible, if a country 70 times smaller like Denmark can train 30 pilots a year for Ukraine. Well done Denmark btw. It doesn't look like anyone is coordinating this training, as individual countries from time to time tell the press that they are offering to train some pilots.

We are sending billions over to Ukraine, when that money can be put to good use back here in the UK and elsewhere. I do not want my taxes being sent over there.
From my POV as an American: What goes-on on the streets of most of the Western countries is that the poor and minorities cannot expect any justice and the Rules and Law only seem to apply to us in the middle class and not to the Rich and the Powerful (and especially not the Corporations - e.g. Boeing). Similarly, the West also picks and chooses where we apply our "Rule of Law": not applying it when we invade other countries (Granada, Iraq, etc.), where our troops commit mass-murders (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.), where we don't see much profit (Ukraine, Africa, Burma, ...) or where our allies are actively committing Genocide right now, and have been for the past year (Palestine). Still, what we have (the dictatorship of the Corporations, the Rich and the Powerful) at least allows us to "speak" and breath freely - more or less. However, the similar groups who also control the BRICS (especially Russia, Iran and China, as well as N. Korea, Venezuela, etc.) are completely intolerant of any free speech, movement, etc. (Such groups have been controlling every country, more or less, for at least the past several decades). Therefore, given a choice, I'd much rather live under the rule of the Western powers than those of the BRICS-type terrorist leaders. Yes: our hands in the West are not saintly and yes, we are often hypocritical, but all our leaders ask for is everyone else's wealth and not their lives. Sadness....
And the comparison that you are looking for is that Russia will become to China what the UK has been to the US - just so it could stay "relevant". Oh my, how the passage of time takes its tole on all of us.
And I agree: refusing weapons (that we already have) to Ukraine and limiting how they can be used is not only immoral, but also short-sighted when it comes to our own long-term defense and security (a selfish matter), not just in Europe, but also in the Chinese theater.

Well now that David Lammy has been there, Ukrainians must be feeling much safer.
I agree w/ most of what they say, but there is some disingenuousness. "Omg, the rules based order, very important, Russia hurting it!". Meanwhile, they have nothing to say about an ethno-state carrying out war crimes at a rate & scale not seen for decades, WITH 110% backing & complicity by the entire "west". (i.e. Israel)... Russia kills 500 kids & 10k civilians in 3 years, "omg it's a genocide!". Israel kills 20k kids & 13k women in 8 months, using the equivalent of 3+ Hiroshima blasts in an area the size of east London, not so much as a mention when talking about how the west is so steadfast in international law & the rules based order. Israel does annexation- crickets. Russia does it- bring out the bullion & soapbox. To be super clear, my point is NOT "well Russia gets a free pass then & international law is bad"... its how about some principals, honesty, integrity, & consistency. Russia, Hamas, & Israel(& all its backers) must be held accountable. International law is important & is a good thing, but not when it's it's nothing more than a weapon to be wielded for geopolitics & to be discarded at earliest convenience, only to be picked up as a shield once u find utility in it...
As an Australian who has travelled much. Meeting many Englishman and many Americans throughout the world. The English will apologise were not necessarily. But take an Englishman off the leash you are the most reasonable sycopaths on earth. The Americans not so. What the Americans need is to grow a pare and help Ukraine to win not just survive for now. from what I hear that Patrushev FSB has won the political power struggle for now with the imprisonment of various Russian army officers close to Shoigu Russian army. So the FSB is now helming the Russian gov and the direction of Russia's war in Ukraine. So while the Patrushev FSB has won the power struggle for now. the Shoigu GRU/Army is now down and out and still a strong force, so if the FSB flops, the Army will be in ascendant. Putin himself is a bit more closer to Patrushev FSB than he is to Shoigu so he favours the FSB a bit more however he has to counterbalance the FSB with the GRU/Russian army, since keeping both sides weak as to not being strong enough to overthrow Putin is imperative. However the Russian army leadership really does not like the FSB and being put under the military leadership of the FSB I think will be disastrous. since the army leadership might act in a way to throw the war .
