Also I use a staple remover if I need the take the coin out for any reason, however once you flatten the staples it makes it more difficult!
with more sensitive coins I use eight staples. Most others will do with four on the corners. I also apply pliers to the staples so they don't cut or tear into any materials about the flips.

Hey I do exactly the same thing, flatten down the staples! I started doing it so it’s more flat and doesn’t take up as much space. But I understand it can have that extra benefit of not scratching each other.
Put the 2x2's in plastic 3-ring binder sheets, they come with rows of 5x4 so you can store 20 coins per page, the coins are still visible and protected from each other.
I'm real late here, but to counteract his second issue of the 2x2 cardboard flips, I staple on the corners of the flips, instead of directly above, below, and sides.
And a great thing is that you can stack the pages or fold them up individually for storage, if you don't put them in a binder.
This is how I store mine. Inexpensive flips, inexpensive binder sheets, and all on display enough to to be able to look through and admiral your collection.
Lighthouse/Leuchtturm self adhesive 2x2 cardboard flips. I also like to use album folders so I use the same branded 2x2 K50 sheets in conjunction.

Max stapler. Staples are flat not curved.
If I have issues with the 2x2's I just use a small slender piece of metal to pry up the staples edges, fix the issue and restaple. Almost never had to tear open one. as for storage I keep all my coins in binders so I don't run into the issue of the staples messing up other coins. That being said, my collection is small, around 150 foreign coins and might have issues if my coin collection got too big for binders.
Oh trust me, its not a fun time when it gets too large for your binder. I've got a collection of US coins that I've ended up filling one 3" binder and overfilling another. They're holding on by hopes and dreams lol
In the uk the non pvc flips are hard to find
It just hit me!, Why not put half of the 2x2 inside the non pvc slip to keep the coin from moving around and you can still write all the info on it.
did something similar with a sealed exonumina coin that fit just inside the flip with its sealed pocket. I stapled around the slip and wrote on the flip the info. I also did the same with a capsuled coin, since I wanted both the info and the original capsule.
What are the safest 2x2 cardboard sleeves to use ?

I've been using the 1.5x1.5 cardboard holders for decades. Coins I put in more that 40 years ago still look fine. I mostly buy the Quarter size, which is good for Cents, Nickels, Dimes & Quarters, so I don't have to buy each size.
I'm actually using Uncle Paul's 2 by 2's coin flips,on some pretty nice heavy hitter coins.. is it safe for long term years ? do I have anything to worry about like slimy green stuff?

with the paper holders, do you put the coin inside the indented circular pocket or on the side of the flat plastic? (one side is whiter than the other)

When I was heavy into collecting I would order 1000 of each of the cardboard flips..... No dollar ones tho... I put those in the plastic flips.....
I still do. Great hobby, but like all hobbies, you have to invest a lot of time into it. Question: three(3) staples or four(4)?

Couple questions here are the cardboard two by twos safe enough for long-term storage, where it will not hurt. The coin I’ve heard people have had problems with the staples rusting, but I would think that’s only if they were kept in a bad environment. Second question if using these for long-term storage, how many years should they be changed out?
They're fine but you might want to throw some silica packets into whatever box you're keeping them all in. If you notice any issues, replace them immediately. That said, I prefer 2x2* Saflips, but you should still keep some silica packets in the box. I write any info on a piece of cardstock and slip it in the back pocket and the coin in the front. It allows you to easily remove the coins for handling (if that's your thing), the paper has more space to write on and there is no risk of staples scratching anything.
*Larger coins like 1oz coins/rounds, crowns, large dollars, etc. will "fit" in 2x2 Saflips but fit a lot better in 2.5x2.5.
You could go for staples made of stainless steel or non-ferrous metals, if that's a concern. I've found flips in the house that have to be 40+ years old storing circulated coins and they still hold up. Just keep them away from obvious sources or concentrations of moisture and you should be fine.
Just bear in mind those polymer flips aren't airtight so they could tone.

The different sizes are for tight fits, so that the coin doesn't jostle around the cavity. Mylar isn't a stretchy film, even if it tightens with thicker coins.
I've got 27,5mm (2€) flips mostly, and I'm improvising storing tiny coins in them until I get more fitting ones. You can store multiple coins in a flip this way, but they'll still jostle in there and potentially rub on each other.
TL;DR If you're not bothered by the coin jostling in there like the disk in a googly eye, it's perfectly fine.
No, the window of the coin keepers are different sizes, so the coin is "sealed" and doesn't jostle. Can you, though? Yes. But it's better to use the designated sizes
Quick question for you, I have a few small boxes filled with Canadian copper pennies. My question is, what should I do with all the green coins? Obviously it's pvc damage, but I'm wondering if it would be wise for me to separate them so I don't open a box filled with solid green pennies. Or does the spread take years and years? I am wondering how I should store them long term. Same thing with my pre 82 nickels here in Canada. I have them sorted in plastic dollar store coin rolls but I am assuming they will only last so long before they cause pvc damage to the nickels. What would you do for long term storage. Long term meaning I don't plan on ever selling but handing down to my son in 20 years. Thanks.
You can always buy the clear plastic tubes or if your poor goto the bank and ask for some (flat) rolls. That is going to be way better than plastic rolls from the dollar store! PVC-free and Archival safe. They hold about 50 pennies in each tube. I buy mine from:

I'm from Detroit and every penny roll I go through I find at least 1. I say this in good fun! Being so close to the border and Windsor next door a penny is a penny LOL :)
Not sure what to tell you about the green coins. You can try cleaning them, but they always say not to clean them, but once they go green I'd isolate them from the rest of my collection. That could be something other than PVC? Copper, Sulfar, rust, you name it. That stuff I assume will ruin your entire collection.
Rob's Hobbys thanks. I didn't want to use the hard plastic tubes as it wouldn't make sense for my pennies or nickels. I keep my junk silver in the hard plastic tubes but just can't do it for a 50 cent roll of pennies or 2.00$ roll of nickels. Wouldn't make sense. I see in 20 years from now being able to get maybe double face value if I'm lucky. Lol. Anything semi special I put in 2x2's. found 1 1925 Canadian nickel, through that bad boy in an airtight only because its value is around 80-100. But for my copper and nickel "bullion". Ugh. I guess I'll have to buy paper rolls and switch them all over. Also sorting the green ones and any with even a trace of green. I'm Savin hem mainly for the "fun factor" for my 1 year old son. Ok, so you're just trying to stack copper bullion? Am I right? Well if that's the point why don't you just buy a crap ton of 10 oz bar's or rounds from APMEX for 5 bucks? Then you don't have to worry about green pennies or even sorting through rolls. You can take those bullion rounds that come packed in plastic and not have to worry about any corrosion? Am I right in my thinking or is there something special about Canadian pennies?
Soaking the green coins in acetone for a minute should remove the PVC damage. Then rinse them in clear water and pat dry.
I have the 2x2 cardboard sleeves are THOSE safe to store in plastic sleeves for albums? The plastic sleeves that go into the albums smell like a shower curtain BTW
There are non PVC plastic sleeves out there that are safer. I'm not sure PVC can leech to a coin in a 2x2 flip easily, but why risk it.
