I had the pleasure of growing up in the 80's from age 8-18. That was most of my childhood and iI'll never forget it. Twas a great time to grow up. Unforgettable movies and music. Val Kilmer in his prime. I can't wait until my daughter asks me about the 80's.
This is one of the four best comedies of all time - and they all came out in the Spring/Summer of 1985 - the year I graduated HS. Fletch Real Genius Better Off Dead Weird Science I spent YEARS looking for this song. The band, Comsat Angels, were forced by an American company to pick another name - and so they appear as CS Angels in the credits - not that 90% of record (vinyl) stores at the time would have had anything by Comsat Angels. They and this movie are criminally underated.
detubeme - "...Everybody Wants To Rule The World!" 🎶 Best teen movie of the 80's! Excellent casting of many no-name actors that went on to a successful career.
doesn't matter, great feel good movie! My late brother and I would watch this together, great times. The Tears for Fears song at the end makes the movie. Well done Val
1985 Cool: To promote the film, the studio held what it billed as "the world's first computer press conference" with Coolidge and Grazer answering journalists' questions via computer terminals and relayed over the CompuServe computer network.
This is one of those movies I'll watch whenever I can't sleep and just want that "comfort food" type of movie. It's fantastic and I think it's one of the reasons I watch Science Channel as much as I do today...all those lasers.
I love this clip on here. "Real Genius" is a great 1985 comedy film. Val Kilmer as Chris Knight, Gabe Jarret as Mitch Taylor and William Atherton as Dr. Jerry Hathaway are awesome. The song "I'm Falling" by The Comsat Angels in this scene is a great song for this scene.
Comsat Angels - "I'm Falling" (1985 release) I never thought this could happen I never thought I could feel this way Until this strange reaction today You give me a new sensation In a place that has no name Something tells me I'll never feel the same Now it's all changed I'm falling, falling Falling, falling I'm falling, falling Falling, falling What have you done to me I'm falling endlessly I began to slip - I did not know what was coming next Even so I was not prepared for this...not prepared for this I used to think nothing mattered Now I see possibilities You showed a new direction to me And it's all changed I'm falling, falling falling, falling falling, falling falling, falling I began to slip - I did not know what was coming next Even so I was not prepared for this...not prepared for this I'm falling, falling falling, falling falling, falling falling, falling
I just HAD to buy this DVD years ago. One of the best cult classics ever. I've been obsessed with lasers ever since. btw, looks very likely that Ron Howard / Brian Grazer are doing a SEQUEL / remake of Real Genius! Take a look at Brian Grazer's IMDB page. "Wake up, Kent !"
I was born in the 80s but my sisters who grew up in that decade showed me all of those movies and I have to admit that nowadays movies are all graphics and no great lines..real genius had some great one liners :)
Needs a new comment. As an undergrad, I used to work in a University facility where they were researching lasers at the same time that this movie came out. The fun part was the requirement that all capital equipment have inventory stickers on them, and laser lenses were expensive! Try putting a sticker on them, NOT! Anyway, great flick depicting the smart kids in college, and a great tune!
The man in charge of the decision to not release a soundtrack for this flick should be tarred and feathered. How in the hell does that not happen? Best "cult" 80's flick. (period)
I think I recognize three cassette recorders amongst those. I also suspect that most of those monophonic recorders are DC bias. The three that I recognize definitely DC bias.
Very true, he did do a great job playing Jim Morrison, but I think it didn't show his true talent. Remember the role of Jim Morrison was original going to be play by Billy Idol before he has his car crash, but they could not rewrite the script because they were already making it. I think if they had more time to fix it he might have gotten a oscar, but because not it became a role like his performace in Wonderland. Great but not the best he could do.
Lazlo was Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite, right?! LMAO, this was a great flick. Whatever happened to Mitch? And who didn't have a crush on Val Kilmer after this one??
I looked there and it is not to be found. Other Comsat Angels songs are there but unfortunately not this great song. I have resorted to going to second hand CD stores to try and find either the Comsat Angels CD with this song or the soundtrack for the movie. Still looking.
What about the Dark Crystal, Krull and the Last Starfighter? Too many good movies from that decade. Dragonslayer and Flight of the Navigator were awesome as well. Why aren't movies that fun anymore? Maybe I'm just getting old.
@ oceanbelow: You shul know watt 2 say, I been searching for this soundtrack for months. I love this movie. Kris Knight (Val Kilmer) is the reason I majored in chemistry and physics. And, they said convicts were stupid. Rotflmmfbao. I did it, and pursuing my masters in physical chemistry. I wish all hoodlums would follow suit. Maybe the world wouldn't be so fucked up.
The current schooling system is 200 years old and obsolete Why is no one trying to make learning efficient? They need to improve the environment in which kids study They need to add art and entertainment and games to improve our focus
Val Kilmer is a great actor period, although he hasn't always gotten the big-name notoriety. Please don't disregard his role as Jim Morrison in The Doors.
Wow, you looked at IMDB. Hate to break your rice bowl, but pretty much anyone could do likewise if they really wanted to know the professional résumé of Lazlo Hollyfeld.
My friends and I would watch this movie every week in college while I was getting my physics degree. Can recite the whole movie word for word.

The tape recorder gag probably made me laugh the hardest of anything in this film.
Great movie, great song. Lucky to grow up in the 80's. This was one of my top 5 movies growing up.
i love growing up 80's and hate it...cause it means we remember when movies and music had soul not to mention some amazing montages haha
Just finished watching this, loved this song. I love how the movie ends with Tears for Fears too. It fits perfectly.
detubeme - "...Everybody Wants To Rule The World!" 🎶
Best teen movie of the 80's! Excellent casting of many no-name actors that went on to a successful career.
I like how the extended it for the credits
doesn't matter, great feel good movie! My late brother and I would watch this together, great times. The Tears for Fears song at the end makes the movie. Well done Val
terrific movie! they still play it occasionally! So now its on the DVR and DVD
Classic... I can remember this movie... man, the 80s had it all, todays stuff you forget because it has no soul.
Doc Holiday doing the coin flip in the hands many years before Tombstone nice!!!
I had that little red tape recorder shaped like a box seen in this clip back in the 80's. Reminds me of it whenever I watch this scene.
God....one of the best 80's movies ever!!! I'm going to go look for it on ebay now...lmao
Just bought a copy of this on DVD. One of the greats. The other movie that sticks in my mind is Mannequin. I love the OTT acting in that one!
DUDE. I completely AGREE. Two of my favorite movies.
ahh nothing like an 80's montage...one of my favorite movies : )
1985 Cool: To promote the film, the studio held what it billed as "the world's first computer press conference" with Coolidge and Grazer answering journalists' questions via computer terminals and relayed over the CompuServe computer network.

Comsat Angels - "I'm Falling" (1985 release)
I never thought this could happen
I never thought I could feel this way
Until this strange reaction today
You give me a new sensation
In a place that has no name
Something tells me I'll never feel the same
Now it's all changed
I'm falling, falling
Falling, falling
I'm falling, falling
Falling, falling
What have you done to me
I'm falling endlessly
I began to slip - I did not know what was coming next
Even so I was not prepared for this...not prepared for this
I used to think nothing mattered
Now I see possibilities
You showed a new direction to me
And it's all changed
I'm falling, falling
falling, falling
falling, falling
falling, falling
I began to slip - I did not know what was coming next
Even so I was not prepared for this...not prepared for this
I'm falling, falling
falling, falling
falling, falling
falling, falling
Win in the end.
Better.
Best movie of all time
Definitely best movie ever
Nicely done! This is one of my favorite movies.
I have this movie on dvd, I watch it some times, love it.
Self-realization. I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"
Can't tell you how many times I have told that joke to someone just for them to not get t.
Has to be dozens.
this movie is so great- and I never forget how awesome this montage is
Love this song and this movie! Thank you for sharing this with us! :o)
I just HAD to buy this DVD years ago. One of the best cult classics ever.
I've been obsessed with lasers ever since.

Great 80's song to a great 80's montage!
Real Genius, My Science Project, and Weird Science - CLASSICS !!! OWN THEM ALL !!!!!
Love this movie as a kid! Had to go to Hasting just to get the dvd!
My girlfriend just pointed out that Lazlo Holyfield is the actor who plays Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite. I never made that connection.
No flipping way
Needs a new comment. As an undergrad, I used to work in a University facility where they were researching lasers at the same time that this movie came out. Val Kilmer was awesome in this!
Almost forgot about this movie, good classic movie as well.
At 2:30 I've always wondered how the hell he does that. Its really cool. Great movie one of the 80's best and my favorites.
This song is great fits the scene very well.
One of the best montages of all time.
Great song. I listen to it everytime I have a final or some other important test.
I had to listen to this cause I watched the movie last night and for some reason this song is stuck in my head now = P
What's up with that?! This music is CLASSIC!!!!
For those asking about the song, it's "I'm Falling" by CS Angels. Sadly, I couldn't find it on iTunes nor on Amazon MP3s :(
That’s when you know it’s a good song … not mainstream garbage
GREAT movie
luv it =]
This video has been on TH-cam for 11 years lol. Hope it never will be removed because this movie was a classic as is this song.
The song is called I'm Falling by Comsat Angles.
It's a song by The Comsat Angels, a great British band from the 80s...still touring. Influenced somewhat by The Chameleons.
The 80's......I wanna go there!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the soundtrack is great too!!!
That lecture hall showed up in at least one CSI ep, maybe more. It's barely been changed!
The man in charge of the decision to not release a soundtrack for this flick should be tarred and feathered. How in the hell does that not happen? Best "cult" 80's flick. (period)
best montage ever (maybe after Rocky IV)
True this is his second best role, but he was the ultimate badass in Tombstone.
I would put this song on to study in college soon after this movie was released. haha I miss the 80's. Val was he man wasn't he.
Not to mention the lecture room where everything is eventually recording.... kind of a harbinger of today, back in the time that this movie was made
I love Comsat Angels and I love this song.
great job man, thank u. i love this song, and the other catchy one, number 1, i think its called??
I think I recognize three cassette recorders amongst those. I also suspect that most of those monophonic recorders are DC bias. The three that I recognize definitely DC bias.
I almost forgot how good the music in this movie was
I've made it my goal to buy a 80's movie every week so I can get a huge collection of the good ol movies.
same!
I was born in 1991 , I missed the 80's but a little bit , man wish I was born sooner
Rumor has it, a sitcom
Love this song, but I have never found it for download. I don't think it's on the soundtrack. So there's almost no way to get it last time I checked.
Very true, he did do a great job playing Jim Morrison, but I think it didn't show his true talent. The movie is on Crackle now. One of my favorite movies.
80'S FTW
i want a 20 minute version of this.
A crime against humanity to put the two movies in the same thought bubble.
Lazlo was Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite, right?! LMAO, this was a great flick. Whatever happened to Mitch? And who didn't have a crush on Val Kilmer after this one??
awesome song!!!!!
If I wear it anywhere else, it chafes.
Yes, the 80s was the decade of technology and "NERDS!!!!"
80s teen movies always had to have a music video montage for some reason.
Because nobody wants to actually admit it but pop culture wise the 80s was by far the best decade. all decades are infinitely inferior to this era .
The professor in the lecture hall is my friend.
such a great movie, is there a cd with the ost out there?
I looked there and it is not to be found. Other Comsat Angels songs are there but unfortunately not this great song. I have resorted to going to second hand CD stores to try and find either the Comsat Angels CD with this song or the soundtrack for the movie. Still looking.
Out of curiosity, what's with the sound being behind?
overhead shmoverhead - free it man.
What about the Dark Crystal, Krull and the Last Starfighter? Too many good movies from that decade. Dragonslayer and Flight of the Navigator were awesome as well. Why aren't movies that fun anymore? Maybe I'm just getting old.

who are the singers for "Falling"?
I had a GREAT time in the 80's
@dimviesel That's gotta be the funiest thing Ive ever heard! LOL
If Mitch is so smart how come he's not smart enough to get a book bag or breifcase?
OK. Hate not being a teen in the 80's. Would have loved it. Love 80's til deaf.
LOOKING FOR THIS FILM A LONG TIME ANYBODY GOT A LINK TO WATCH IT FOR FREE
watched it last night, twice
The current schooling system is 200 years old and obsolete
Why is no one trying to make learning efficient?
They need to improve the environment in which kids study
They need to add art and entertainment and games to improve our focus
this movie is 10 times better when you watch it on your ipod
can i get this on iTunes?
what happened to the main actor?
Val Kilmer is a great actor period, although he hasn't always gotten the big-name notoriety. Please don't disregard his role as Jim Morrison in The Doors.
I like that look he gives Kent at 1:42. Mitch looks like he could everyone's ass at that moment.
What happened to real movies like this?
Chris' last comment is pure gold. X,D
Val Kilmer was great in this flick. And Mayim Bialik should have gotten some recognition from the academy for her gender-crossing turn as Mitch.
Would you believe that the guys that wrote this also penned the first Police Academy movie?
HOW COME THIS SONG ISMT ON ITUNES
Wow, you looked at IMDB. Hate to break your rice bowl, but pretty much anyone could do likewise if they really wanted to know the professional résumé of Lazlo Hollyfeld.
Math on tape is hard to follow so please listen carefully
Awesome montage. Is it just me, or is the timing off?
