Could this possibly be the most vivaciously feel-good film ending ever?! Geniuses winning out in the end, popcorn mountain fun, and Tears For Fears.....the 1980's were THE decade for comedies :)
9:04 - In the credits "Special Thanks To LAPIDUS POPCORN, INC." - In Real Genius, "Lapidus Popcorn, Inc." is credited as part of the production, specifically linked to the iconic popcorn scene. Lapidus Popcorn, Inc. was one of the suppliers that provided real popcorn for the scene. Over 140 tons of popcorn were used, making it a significant logistical challenge. The production team had to use specially treated popcorn, including some with fire retardant, to ensure safety during filming. The popcorn was continuously popped for months to achieve the effect. Lapidus Popcorn, Inc. was a popcorn supplier incorporated in California in 1971. There is little information publicly available about Lapidus Popcorn, Inc., and it appears the company primarily operated in the context of food supply and distribution, but is no longer active.
No one in Hollywood destroys a house with a laser & popcorn any more. I miss the old days. =-) I still remember where I was when I saw this movie the first time out of 100 plus! Great memories are awesome!
I like the "special thanks to Lapidus Popcorn, Inc" in the credits, lol. watched this when i was little and now whenever i hear that song i think of this, cheers nostalgia at its finest.
Every time I hear Everybody Wants To Rule World by Tears for Fears, I think of this movie. I also think of this movie when I hear One Night Love Affair by Bryan Adams when the Pacific Tech students attended the Tanning Invitational pool party with the beauty school students. Great movie, and a lot of great memories growing up in the 80s.
Great revenge served on a jerk like that. That character should learn his lesson to not be a jerk to everyone and to show a little more care for others especially the ones who work for him.
This is the scene where Tom Hanks "actually" appears and not the tea scene every one goes on about. Watch him run into the popcorn @ 5:41 and pause on 5:49 Bingo there he is!!
@spituto ABSOLUTELY! I noticed her perfection in 1984, and as awesome as the film truly is, Pink Sweater Girl will ALWAYS be my favorite part... wish I could find out where she is now so that I could tell her!
Jerry Hathaway was a man of respect, but used his power of authority to gain the trust of students he knew where smarter then him for his own dirty business, and now got handed the bill for his misdeeds.
@DJhiphouse Yeah I thought of that too, or how Laslo helped them the night before and then all of a sudden shows up in a loaded motorhome, like hey forgot to tell you I got to run in the morning and get all this stuff.
So when the old money generation x ruler team under the government only destroyed hurlers weapon and ended the process we were proud and we understood that the term genius is specific for certain areas and we don’t apply that to global engineering as old money rulers as per the Native American chief and we agree after seeing hurlers pursuits globally. Number one is not an ambition. Source and husband 2008
Must be a Tom Hanks look-a-like. Hanks was born in 1956 and this film was released in 1985. So, Hanks would have been in late 20's. Also, hanks was already making movies with John Candy in 1985 and was established and becoming a star.
I have to ask the ummm "big brained question" And this is truly for the massive, dung dumping elephant in the room. Not withstanding the epic laser and popcorn (very memorable) and a great movie!! But since when do we allow children to play in popcorn strewn with window glass and God know what else? I know it's Hollywood but..........
That's not how it works. This is a clandestine military operation, meaning it has to succeed without the average person, let alone Congressman, knowing about it. If Congress knows, the American people knows, and that's not good for the military brass that okayed the project.

This and empire records ending are my favs
“Absolutely”
Love this ending
This is THE ending for an 80's movie.
You forgot the 80’s music FREAKING absolutely killing it.
Sad how we don't get feel good movies like this anymore.
Great scene, the Tears for Fears song at the end " Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is perfect.
80s were the greatest time to be alive and be a kid or a teen, awesome 80s...
I hear ya. We're lucky to have experienced that.
Couldn't agree more.
80’s childhood I tell ya..👌🏼
Yeah bro truly was especially Ronald Reagan my favorite president 🦅 🇺🇸 1981-1989
Born in 1973. Believe me, I know. I would give anything to go back and relive it all over again.
This is why I get hungry for popcorn every time I hear Tears for Fears

My favorite part in the movie. I really love this movie as a child.

If you were a child of the 80s we had an Awesome childhood
God, this takes me back. So glad I was a kid in the 80s!

This should be on myth busters
Oh yeah

@@rickg8015 yes, that was his first movie, real genius came right after that...still, it was a great beginning
The feelings this movie leaves you with make you feel like a kid again. That time in your life when the world was carefree and fun.
One of my favorite endings to any movie and my top 3 favorite movies of all time.
So nice to see Uncle Rico find his soul mate...
This movie is the start to my crush on Val Kilmer. Thanks for the great memory, I'll be sharing!
Founds memories of a great song & watching anything on cable movie television when it was brand new at the time.
I always wondered if any of the kids found broken window glass in their wagons full of popcorn. Lol
u're a real genius for uploading this!
This was great song 🎵 from the Reagan era. Voted 🗳 for him 80 and 84.
so did most of the country chief😂
Thankfully by the time I was voting that POS was long gone
Uncle Grandpa and Aunt grandma riding away in an RV. Perfection and timeless! In Jesus Christs name we pray amen.
and you know EVERYONE in that military operation was court martialed and/or thrown in prison over this XD
Seen this film at the midnight movies at the time. Late summer of '85. Who couldn't ask for a better ending🙂
One of the best ending to a film ever! ❤❤
Definitely a top 80s movie, God I was in Love with the mousy brunette!
I always liked Michelle Meyrink. She was so adorable. Too bad she didn't have a lot more roles. She was a good actress.
agreed
She retired from acting not too long after this. She did a few movies but thats it.
@@demonofelru3214 Which movies ???? I only recall one ...
@@anapaulacarneiro4175 Revenge of the Nerds for one.
@@anapaulacarneiro4175 Not sure.
This is the scene where Tom Hanks "actually" appears and not the tea scene every one goes on about. Watch him run into the popcorn @ 5:41 and pause on 5:49 Bingo there he is!!
This and Van Wilder are 2 of my favorite movies.
Tears for Fears!! Everybody Wants To Rule The World...

We now know why he was working for the NY EPA…. He lost his teaching position
This and Revenge of the Nerds top 5 easily :)
Kent such a brown noser lol - gets what he deserves and a feel good ending like no other
My favorite movie of the 80’s!
Jerry Hathaway was a man of respect, but used his power of authority to gain the trust of students he knew where smarter then him for his own dirty business, and now got handed the bill for his misdeeds.
I love that after all he's lost, the dog comes up and pees on his leg, too!
😆
Real Genius always ambience in 2005 @ 2006 if released in 1985. American most biggest and greatest movies.
my favorite 80s movie.....god it dates me !!!
@DJhiphouse Yeah I thought of that too, or how Laslo helped them the night before and then all of a sudden shows up in a loaded motorhome, like hey forgot to tell you I got to run in the morning and get all this stuff.
I want to swim in a sea of popcorn
5:40 I wish I was one of those kids

But the government knows the laser works and will figure out it was tampered with, they still get the laser and operation crossbow is still a go.
That's not how it works. This is a clandestine military operation, meaning it has to succeed without the average person, let alone Congressman, knowing about it. If Congress knows, the American people knows, and that's not good for the military brass that okayed the project.
They set the laser up to self destruct. So the government did not get it.
