Wish this video existed when I purchased my first Frenchie Without any research I bought my half merle half brindle puppy, he only lasted 3.8 years despite my best efforts to keep him alive, he developed IVDD and died of complications no one could have done anything to save my boy RIP COCO
This is an excellent presentation of the current situation and issues with this beloved breed. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK potential frenchie owners. Do NOT breed against the standards. They are there for a reason. Preservationist breeders are the TRUE RARE breeders, not these color breeder$.
Thank you for this information. I almost brought a chocolate a few months ago, However I changed my mind, Something didn't seem right to me. I found a great honest breeder and now I have a healthy ,adorable sweet French Bulldog ..
I love this video! I am a huge advocate for ethical breeding of all breeds and brachycephalic breed. I have dedicated over 4 years of my life researching and educating myself about this breed as well and pugs and bulldogs. I have a TikTok account dedicated to the proper education of the breeds. I love that people are now making light of the bad breeders that are destroying this breed
Habe seit über 20 Jahren Franz Bulldoggen(bin aber keine Züchterin)Ich liebe diese Rasse abgöttisch....hatte auch Pudel. @@monikajung3098 I 100% agree with you! I’ve had frenchies for 5 years only and I have nothing but good things to say. Never had any issues with my dogs breathing nor have we had any spinal issues or anything. They tolerate heat very well and are extremely fit and active. I advocate to the grave for these breeds and the breeders NEED to change, not the standard!
They're cute and all, and I do see them in media frequently, but my experience with the one I have is that he has quite the personality and is a wonderful companion. The baby schema definitely plays into the bond.
Great video. They are now crossing shar - pei with frenchie and called " big rope frenchies," have awful health and are not frenchies!! Its pure greed. These dogs need to be protected and kept true to breed.
had someone bullying me on insta for calling out his for been that, some do just have the weird shaped nose and probably pure but i know what you mean the real wrinkly ones... even the seemingly pure ones(but retar..ed looking) apparently it pushes the nose cavity/nostrils shut even further as they grow,
I have a beautiful "blue", 2.5 year old French Bulldog. I think this is a great documentary, even though I felt a bit defensive while watching. Noah is a glorious dog, a joy to everyone he meets. I wouldn't be without him and consider his existence to be valid. He is a kennel club dog with proven lineage. BUT, while he enjoys good health and clearly loves life, he does suffer from allergies, and this may be associated with his colour.
I also have a blue frenchie kc reg that colour but researcbed & going to change now as it turned to brindle as he grew up which is lalso in a lot of his lineage... I already knew about the blue colour allergies from blue staffies but find it small minded to believe thats its not a genetic mutation natural in frenchies, although he looks like a small staff and very large also... whats to say they wasnt in the making of the breed to start with as i will say he has no tail whatsoever, not even 1 inch like some its just a round tuft of hair so i find it hard racking my brains how thatd work as i slightly agree with the fluffy thing but even then that could be genetic..most fluffies i see atleast have some tail which is frowned upon also but cant remember hearing much mentioned of that here. (also his dad was fully blue and no tail) meanwhile staffs have a long tail.. also they never mentioned "big rope" the insane ones are clearly just 25% sharpei or so, I have no idea how they fake that on dna/kc
Allergies is mainly from its bully/bulldog lineage and from my experience, the poor nutritional value and contamination of highly processed food is the root cause of health issues
If ethical breeders are breeding out genes such as ADAMTS3, DVL2 screwtail, CDDY etc that are contributing to the poor health outcomes of the French bulldog then who cares if these "genetically healthier" dogs don't have an approved coat colour. Same goes for RFG score of 0 and an increased CFR. Yes, with these changes to genetics and physical characteristics the French bulldog breed is going to change, and the breed standard should change along with it. For the sake of the health of the dogs. The pool of dogs to breed from is small already (limited to only having single copy/eliminated genes let alone excluding dogs with unapproved coat colours).
Healthier French bulldogs will have no BOAS, no hemivertebrae or IVDD, and long straight spine and tail, and CFR of at least 0.3 aka a snout. Just doing an RFG test as shown in your documentary is not enough.
These dogs, for the most part, can not breed properly. Not to mention all kinds of other health issues, from back pain to eye problems. To put a "designer colour" on top, as in all breeds, creates "interesting" new problems - but can you really call yourself an "ethical breeder" if you breed a dog that is destined to suffer from shortness of breath their whole life? And no, the breed standard does not prevent this, as it calls for the very short and upturned nose. The medical problem is called "Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS)" because it comes from being brachycephalic, and that is what the standard calls for.
They don't suffer it's not true what your reading on the Internet. My girl is super healthy no problem breaths fine loves life. You can't believe whatever people say on line. In fact you should get one. They are the best.
My bigrope blue fawn merle french bulldog is 7 panel clear. It’s a shame that people assume all non-standard colors are unhealthy. My dog doesn’t snore. He is OFA certified. Not all non-standard colors are unhealthy. They were prejudice against Fawns before and now it’s a standard color. There is all kinds of hypocrisy in this video. None of these dogs are like the original from the 1800s.
is snoring a certified way to tell they have an issue, its just ive heard staffies with massive nostrils/nose etc snore very loud too and still live long lives. also my frenchie is insanely loud byt ive seen ones with perfect nostrils where there owners say the same.. but for walks he can go an hour or so and only has mouth open when running, he does reverse sneeze occasionally but apparently its very common and could be allergies with been blue also. its somethinig im gonna look into but figured they all snore until now but have heard people say this and i have had 2 pugs in my time with slits what people are quick to jump on that fact, didnt even snore either,,
exactly its stupid my "blue" frenchie has no tail whatsoever, yet a staffie has a full tail. its liereally just a genetic mutation and staffie was likely in the making of the breed also, i mean look at any frenchie smile, its a doppelganger to a staffie smiling..
I would have liked to have seen more information about the health issues that frenchies (real or otherwise) have come under fire for recently. Breathing, neurological, and other "quality of life" issues. Your emphasis on "it's not a recognized color" didn't carry weight with me at first and was starting to get annoying until you started showing "standard" frenchies next to "designer" frenchies and you could see how the designer dogs have VERY different structures that likely go beyond just poor physical type and are in fact Frenchie Crosses being sold as purebred. But people -think- they're purebred so when these crosses end up with health issues, those problems get pinned on actual purebred Frenchies when the dogs in question weren't pure frenchies at all. THAT is a legitimate point and a big problem, but you took way too long to get to it.

Excellent video!

This took far too long to “show up “ in my feed.
Preserve, promote, protect 💪💪💪💪
Excellent video, I have learned a lot from the breed. Is part 2 out? I would love to watch it but can't find it, thank you

BRAVO! 🙌🏼👏🏼 great documentary on the REAL French Bulldog!
The real French Bulldog is from 1800s and looks nothing like the dogs in this video.
@@meleeb4592 it’s called evolution. Exactly why us humans don’t look like a caveman anymore.
I am relieved that my frenchie is a healthy pie.

Very well said! I have a blue & tan Frenchie..I totally agree with you, I’ve been secretly hoping maybe blue becomes the next recognized color 😶

I know a guy that has a big rope, that is the healthiest frenchie I've ever seen.
How can breeding brachycephalic dogs be ethical??
Sure get a high maintenance dog, then take out a second mortgage to pay for all the vet bills
Frenchies are a manufactured breed as the video said. Fro. The original English bulldog. This is breeder elitism at its worst.
exactly its stupid my "blue" frenchie has no tail whatsoever, yet a staffie has a full tail. its liereally just a genetic mutation and staffie was likely in the making of the breed also, i mean look at any frenchie smile, its a doppelganger to a staffie smiling..

No facts shown here… wonder why….poor dogs!
It sounds like they are mad they aren’t the only ones making money.
Great video 👏
