    Funny to listen to all the traits. My Frenchie (Gizmo) will be 15 years old this month! She never passes gas and her snorting, snoring and breathing issues are very minimal. I must have gotten lucky. In many ways, she still acts like a puppy and doing very good for 15. I make sure to feed her high quality dog food along with 2 pumps of Alaskan Salmon Oil in her food. I think the Salmon Oil has been a key factor to her still doing well at age 15. The two main health issues I have faced with her are her hips and ear infections. My #1 advice is to NOT let your Frenchie run up and down stairs or even jump onto your couch. They are prone to having hip issues and it will help them in the long run when they get older. I carry Gizmo up and down any stairs and don't let her jump onto things. The ear infections are controllable by consistently wiping and cleaning her ears and checking them on a regular basis.

      We have had our pup for almost a month now. We're going to do our best to prevent him from going up and down stairs, and jumping off the couch. It's definitely going to be a big effort!

      @ hairy tee I've never heard of a 15 year old Frenchie. I have a youngster 1.5 yrs old and he's not gaseous. He did have the airway and soft pallet surgery. Any tips for keeping him around for 15yrs ?

      @@autumnanderson7757 She is doing remarkably well at 15 which has really surprised me. She hasn't shown any signs of aging except for some pain in her hips. I constantly massage her hips which I can see makes her feel really good. She still likes to play as she did when she was a puppy just not as often. I make sure to feed her high quality dog food. I feed her 2X a day, 1/2 cup in morning and at night and don't overfeed her. I use "Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Natural Adult Small Breed" with 2 pumps of "Zesty Paws Pure Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil for Dogs" and "Zesty Paws 8-in-1 Bites". For treats, I feed her "The Pioneer Woman Grain Free, Natural Dog Treats, Beef & Brisket Recipe". I think the Alaskan Salmon Oil is what has really helped a lot along with supplemental vitamins. I also make sure to constantly check her ears and do a gentle cleaning with ear wipes. If unattended, she has gotten bad ear infections a few times. Lastly, I make sure she NEVER goes up and down stairs or tries to jump onto the couch. I had an instance when she was about 3 years old where she was laying in the chair with me and started to twitch immensely. I could see she was in severe pain. I put her on the floor and her back legs were paralyzed and could not walk. I took her to the vet and he showed me on an X-ray that her spine is not fully developed which is common in Frenchies. He said all I can do is to make certain she does not go up and down stairs. Since then, I carry her up and down stairs. It's been 12 years now and she fully recovered and never had those symptoms again.

    I’ve just rescued a miniature Frenchie and boy he’s opposite to the lazy traits, he loves his country walks, doesn’t like clothes, he has raw diet and lives with Saint x mastiffs and we adore the little guy he’s so much fun. He’s tough little guy. He hangs with the giant breeds and is cool when we go out. He’s our smallest rescue but he comes with big personality and adores playing with the pack and very sweet dog. Successful rescue and settled wonderful, he doesn’t have bad wind on raw diet. Feed them crap and you’ll be smelling what you feed them. Lol 😂
    He can lick his own bum too. Weee blessed with our Frenchie boy. 😍🌈🙏💕

    I'd say the big caution in getting a Frenchie is that you will be so very tempted to get a second!! I've heard them called "Pringles" dogs because no one can just have one. My dog is not a big eater, and not super motivated by food. Her weakness is fruit. She loves fruit. So, after checking to make sure which are ok for dogs to eat, I used small bits of fruit to train her to do her simple commands. Yes. Frenchies can have a lot of health issues and you MUST sign up for health insurance before you even bring the dog home. A good breeder will not sell you one of their dogs at the drop of a hat. Good breeders will make you apply, interview you, and you will wait and wait. But it's worth it.

    Thank you for putting out this video. My Frenchie is the best dog I’ve ever had and I love him to death. But, this breed does take a lot of work, and money and care to keep them healthy. Now that Frenchies are seen as the “it” dog, it’s important for prospective owners to know what it takes to have one in your family. There’s nothing worse than someone getting one and not giving them the care they deserve. Go in with your eyes open. If you’re up to the task, you’ll be rewarded with the best little guy/girl ever.

    Excellent advice! ALL TRUE!
    We have a frug! So cute, but very high maintenance!
    Ours likes to go out and lay in the sunshine! This breed can't regulate their temp, so can overheat quite quickly.
    They get the zoomies and race around for 5-6 minutes, but they mostly sleep. Our Augie likes to sleep with some kind physical connection to one of us. Always up for snuggles!

    I have a very small 16lb, 7 yr old Frenchie & I couldn’t love her more. You are accurate re requiring special care/maintenance. Along with her tiny size my Frenchie came with allot of medical issues/procedures/surgeries but for 4 yrs now she is in perfect condition. No gas present as I cook for her using “Just Food For Dogs” beef recipe. As you said they must be wiped clean as they have thick bodies & cannot reach that area to clean themselves. I use 7th generation baby wipes ev time she poops & she gets wiped down ev night b/f bed. I can tell you the effort is well worth the reward as they are very funny little creatures & so loving. I could buy a fancy sports car for the amount of money I have into her but I choose her ev time. Ps insurance for Frenchies is high & they don’t cover allergies which is a big issue. Most Frenchies are on Apoquel for itch at $2 a pill but since I started “Just Food For Dogs” incl their allergy suppl she no longer needs it. Frenchs’s are the best!

He's very quiet and rarely asked for attention because I don' like giving him that kind of affection. When he sees me, he start licking his chops cuz he knows snacks are coming. I had my frenchie Imported from a reputable breeder from Ukraine. Paid only $1400.00 including airfare. Never had an issue with my dog except with food intolerance. Hungary is another country to get affordable frenchies from. The AKC likes to tell people fake stories about puppy mills from overseas so that people pay exuberant prices for their pets in the US the reason is the average monthly wage in UKR is only $200 which is why the dogs are much cheaper. The average Ukrainian would have to work for 5 months to be able to buy a frenchie. The US military and numerous police departments trough out the US have Ukrainian dogs in service. Don't be stupid and pay 10k for a French bulldog in the US.

    they won't have gas if you make them homemade dog food.

  • @Jen.K
    @Jen.K 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The gassy problem is related to diet. If you feed a species appropriate diet, then there wont be any more gas than any other dog. That means no grain, low carb, no dairy, ideally a raw diet. My Frenchie is on a mostly raw, absolutely no grain diet and he only gets gas when he eats something he's not supposed to have.

    Basically it's a dog that cannot act like a happy, healthy dog because all of their horrible bodily defects. If they were in normal canine bodies, heat and the outdoors and athletic play would be no issue. And people pay THOUSANDS for the puppies and thousands more later at the vet. Ya! Great deal (eyeroll).

      More maintenance, less common equal more expensive. Same reason a Ferrari or Lamborghini is expensive and it's rarely ever a great value.
      They're obviously very cute to us humans but those traits have come at the cost of the breed's health. But if you have this empathy towards dog (and that is a good thing), do you have the same thing towards the chickens, pigs and cows we use and slaughter for food?
      At least the people paying thousands for frenchies will also be paying paying thousands to maintain their health. But sure, there might be a moral case on getting rid of this breed altogether.

    • @Janeway1269
      @Janeway1269 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@felixchien1664 I can say I have way more empthay for food animals than most. Anyone who thinks they "got me" on that argument is going to be awfully surprised. Been deep diving that area since I was a teen in the 80s.

    • @felixchien1664
      @felixchien1664 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Janeway1269 trust me, I wasn't trying to "got you" in an argument. I just get irked by hypocrisy and want people to check if they consistently apply their moral judgements and beliefs fairly. That's why I ask that as a question; I wasn't accusing you of being guilty of that (though I get it may appear implied). In your case, that portion of my comment doesn't apply to you.
      My main point is that your comment is not logically arguing for anything. It's only re-stating what's obviously the case. Dogs (and myriad other animals) are bred for human purposes. There isn't really a "normal canine"; all dog breeds were bred for a specific purpose. Similar to all other domesticated animals which are used by humans for their utility and/or consumption.
      In the case of Frenchies, it's for their cuteness (which is to no surprise they look similar to human babies). Because such features give rise to health conditions, Frenchies are an expensive breed. People are paying thousands of dollars not for a "good deal and healthy genetic" dog...they are paying for a uniquely cute dog. But I'm not denying there is a moral case that this breed should cease which sounds like what you'd advocate

    To neutralise the smelly farts give them only Charcoal treats! Nothing else and tell other people asking if they can give them silly nonsense dogs food most definitely NOT to. Small dogs don't have the digestive makeup of most dogs let alone people. I only feed mine dried Kibble and Charcoal treats and his farts smell way less potent than most people's now! 🎉

    I don't understand why people make videos like this, in my opinion it would be best to ask an expert about your pet's health, I have also watched similar videos, and even this one a couple of times, and nowhere is aspiration pneumonia mentioned, which is very fatal for dogs, especially for french buldogs, My dog (FRENCH BULDOG 5MONTHS) died 2weeks ago from aspiration pneumonia. It is pathetic that this aspiration pneumonia is not mentioned anywhere and that it is fatal for small dogs like mine. The vets said that during the vomiting he inhaled harmful gases from the stomach and that these gases entered the lungs, which collapsed (failed) and within 3 days, our dog died and there was no way to save him, and all because of the vomiting and those stupid gases from the stomach. It's a shame that it's not written more on the internet about this, because I couldn't believe that a dog could die from vomiting. Our family is inconsolable because we lost a friend and a family member and all because we didn't know.. because we weren't informed and ready for it.
    So it would be best to consult a veterinarian and not look for help on amateur videos on TH-cam or Google..
