    The choice isn't "DJI or build your own". There are plenty of ready-to-fly FPV drones on the market. It's a great way to start and when you crash it (you WILL crash it) it's easy to repair at home with simple tools, no expensive care package and no customer service NPCs. DJI drones are too plasticky and they can't take the rough treatment we all give our FPV drones without a second thought.

      @@brandon9689 You've got to learn somehow, and getting a good bind-and-fly gives you a great template to work from. Lots of people say to start with a self-build so you will know how to fix it, but I think that's bunk. You either have the aptitude for it or you don't, and if you don't then your self-build will fail and you will most likely order all the wrong parts. Start with a bind-and-fly, enjoy the hobby until you crash it, then worry about fixing it. It's easy as long as you can solder.

      @@ZittyTVGepRc iFlight or Speedybee make some of the best BNF models, also they have all the parts to build from scratch, or make repairs. Parts are cheap. I own 2 GepRc drones, built them myself, after hundreds of crashes, it has cost me 3 sets of propellers, and a speed controller. So maybe like $52.00 in repairs after flying every single day for the last 6 months. I have a Mark 4 and a Moz 7. I highly recommend the Moz 7, but the mark 4 is outdated, they have a mark 5 now. Both fly well with stock pids, and would fly even better with some “fine tuning”. And Acro mode is way funner than angle mode. You can fly in such a different way. And if you smash into a tree trunk, or smash into the ground after a flip or whatever, your drone will probably be alright, or perhaps have some slight damage that is easily repaired in minutes. (Assuming you have some spare parts)

      Other RTF brands still require a good bit of tinkering to get good, cinematic flight. None have nearly a comparable software/hardware UX & stack that DJI does. DJI is built end to end, how it comes from the factory is all the user needs to fly. Servicing isn't meant to be user level, that's the case for all of their product.

      Ian, from YT channel 'MadsTech' disassembled the DJI Controller3, and showed us how due to them not adding a second battery, where there is room for, and you can see how manufacturing plans were to add one, were changed during process, he showed us that they put less money and materials (many other components neglected) into the thing, than previous versions, but are charging way more than similar devices on the market. my opinion, they focus on higher end selection, so their low end products don't get the attention needed.
      > Best bang for the buck? My estimation is buy AirUnit, and use a non-DJI Radio link & radio. There a slight learning curve to that method, but once you understand it, you will be in a better place, with much more options.

    Well that sucks and I'm not defending DJI, but as someone who got into FPV back in the early days 8 yrs ago and having to spend insane amounts of research time, money, frustration, and burnt fingers all to experience low-rez grainy analog video for less than 4min per battery, and risking lipo fires in the garage - I can confidently say that DJI has made quads far far more accessible to far more people. I'm not saying DJI quads are perfect and there are no connection errors, but I've crashed many diy quads countless times due to signal loss, since they don't just hover in place or RTH. The only drone I trusted to fly over water was my old Mavic. That first yr after buying the Mavic I went with State Farm's personal property insurance for like $60/yr, which covers total loss. It seemed like a better value over DJI care. As far as value, if you want to build a decent DV FPV quad, the total component cost (not including research, build, and troubleshooting time) would not be that much cheaper than the FPV or Avata kits.

    • @ZittyTV
      @ZittyTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah I absolutely agree, they've made this hobby accessible for many people (including me), and Im still glad that they entered the market. The issue is their refusal to honour the insurance plan that they sell, and just blatantly dismissing their own flight logs. They had told me that the FPV is not covered under flyaway situations, yet I just got an email, reminding me to refresh my plan, and In the email it advertises flyaway coverage

      I know when you want to do a DIY Drone you will have a huge learning curve and spend a ton of hours watching Joshua Bardwell videos teaching you all kinds of tech stuff. With DJI you can just buy a drone and pretty much fly it! I have had my frustrations with DJI, but I have also had a lot of problems resolved quickly as well. Any new hobby whether it's just flying Mavic 3 or an FPV drone or something in between they are all going to have their learning curves. Just a lot less with DJI because you don't have to update the controller through downloading different software, opening up the right folders and copying different files and folders. This crap is a huge pain in the ass if you dont' know what your doing! I should know, I have spent over 48 freaking hours with my RadioMaster TX16S starting from scratch and it has never ever been the same. I got things working well, except I still have ghost files I cannot get rid of I have 3 switches depending on which starter config I chose that do absolutely nothing since I stupidly erased the original program.

    • @BlueDroneBlues
      @BlueDroneBlues 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ZittyTV Probably in the original plan it doesn't cover it, but than when you renew it, it does. I wouldn't live on the protection plan. I did 2 years and won't bother with anymore. After a total of 3 years time I found out they just won't offer any protection, but its up to you if something breaks, You just have to send the drone in and they will assess the damage and you pay the damage repair bill. It can still work out well.

    Disappointing to hear they didn't acknowledge the error in the log. I had a disconnect error with a Mini 3 Pro, but it was most likely my fault because I was flying it in hot desert conditions, although I didn't get a high temp warning. They still replaced it under warranty and didn't charge me for flyaway care. I think it really comes down to the technician who is reading the logs and their ability to understand the error.

    Very good informative video! I got the Avata 1 a year ago to experience the FPV vibe and I was instantly hooked on it! But I also understood that Avata will never give me the real FPV feeling as it’s slow, not agile, not customizable and can’t handle a GoPro or another quality action camera. So I finally got a BOB57 few months ago and man, that thing is a beast! But I also realized that while Avata won’t give you the ultimate FPV experience, it is still great to learn manual mode as you can just push the emergency brake button if you loose control or panic. Just don’t make that a habit!

    It looks like for fpv, we are better off without DJI. DJI cameras are great for cinema footage. FPV is a different animal, and your experience with DJI support is an eye opener. We might as well stick to cheap analog FPV or cinewhoops that can carry an action cam. Yes it's a premium price tag, and if they don't really support FPV properly, then we need to skip DJI. It was clear that you were hitting the throttle and pitching properly. DJI are either stupid, blind or covering up engineering issues.

    I've actually had a similar experience with the Avata 1. I crashed it upside-down into the ground, but when I pressed the motor off switch, it kept beating itself into the ground about 3 more times before automatically turning off. From the experience as a pilot who has build most classes of fpv drone, I find that the fun of the avata comes from the almost goofy way it flies and the convenience to carry. There aren't really any FPV drones that can be thrown into an ordinary backpack and carried anywhere. It's a terrible first quad, but a good option if you need the convivence or just want to have fun with a new quad style.

    Manual mode is not acro/air mode. Manual mode drones do not listen to the raw radio input exclusively, they consider what the radio is asking. The sensors on auto land drone lose their brain over large bodies of water when you get that low... its a pretty well known limitation. As soon as you descended near the water, it was over, your radio inputs were meaningless. I knew it before you even hit the water.
    To be un-aware of your tool's limitation is not an excuse to blame whoever made the tool. TBH I think DJI is right in the conclusion that the pilot's actions are what crashed the drone.
    I am not surprised they offered a replacement, for the 5 year old drone, at essentially warehouse pricing. It wasn't hush money, because they still make a profit off you at that price. And they will not be magically making ultrasonic sensors able to recognize water with software updates.

There are also other kits like it, such as betafpv, geprc and many more. You can also get some affordable goggles and transmitters. You could get eachine ev800d goggles as its an amazing goggle to get into the hobby. For the transmitter, any radiomaster would do the job. I have an avata 2 and if flies amazing in normal mode and sport mode as long as you are happy with a max speed of about 55 km/h (no wind) It sucks in manual mode. Not enough power, and the flight controller fights your maneuvers. So the DJI FPV, good for FPV? Noppe. The avata 1? Yes. The avata 2, even better. But they are not for stunt flying or freestyle or what not. Just for cruising around, exploring and making videos. None of their products are suited for wild racing or close proximity flying because of their flight software that just never really gives full control to the pilot. Sooner or later their software fucks up and then DJI always blame it on the pilot.

And it didn´t repeat after charging the battery I had had the issue with. Anyway, how did you get the recording from the drone? I'm not saying that the DJI FPV or the Avata's are foolproof but they are much more reliable then any rtf or self-build drone out there. If you can't accept that you are losing quads or things going wrong every now an then maybe the FPV hobby isn't for you.

      There’s no indication in the goggles that the sticks need to be calibrated, you only get that prompt in the flight logs on the phone. DJI are still scamming users with the CARE plan. Great intro drones as I said, but a scam nonetheless

    DJI FPV is the most problematic drone ever made, I bought and only flew 2 times, I had problem with goggles, with controller, and as I live on Brazil (and here it isnt a homologated drone) I just didnt have any support to my decorative drone.

    DJI consumer products are great... And they suck.
    The O3 for example is nice. But if you try to fly it with the FPV goggles and remote that came with the DJI FPV. Forget it
    You'll never find anything more unreliable.

    Lesson learned, dont fly acro above water unless you are a pro at it. Just dont do it bro. Not to mention the cash you are dropping for DJI FPV's you could have gotten tons of kits. Its not hard at all to build a fpv drone. I get your issue but like DJI said unfortunately a very large part of that was your fault. DJI needs to stay away from FPV drones. Its making amateurs think they can do things that pros do smh. Get a cheaper kit, learn acro above ground then toss you wont even want a DJI FPV drone. Lastly.... stay away from water. Ya dont see the pros flying over water very often because if you get a signal glitch there goes your drone.

    If you ask me, it looks like lost connection (failsafe) for a moment and then a series of chaotic moves, probably with some delay due to bad connection. The qaud at full speed does not go up as quickly, you might never recover from dive sometimes. Unfortunately, tech limitations with low piloting skills in risky environment equals lost drone. Practice in simulators, there is lots of great fpv simulators nowadays. Good luck!

    After watching your flight logs and the video, I'm leaning toward that this was a user error on your end. Reasoning below:
    1) If you look at the logs, the supposed "control stick error" was showing all the time throughout your flight, but the stick controls showed that you were flying just fine the whole time. How is it that it only didn't pick up your pitch up control until the last second, when it had been picking up all of your other controls just fine a few seconds before? If it's truly control stick error, then it would make more sense if 1 or both of the control sticks malfunction entirely, instead of just one direction of one control stick.
    2) Looking at the video, it looked like you throttled up too late, and at that pitch angle and speed, the drone probably didn't have enough time to pick back up before it crashed.
    This is just my impression of what possibly happened after looking at your video footage and logs. Of course, there is no way to know for sure what exactly happened.

    And it not Dji's fault its yours's sorry to tell i have been flying for over 8 years now and from what i see user error don't blame others for your stupidity, 1 - check your gear before flying - pre flight check 2 - fly in a safe place where you can get your drone back if you crash not over water 3- always fly with a spotter 4 - always fly were no people or animals are around so you dont hurt anyone.

    I'd just stay away from the Humpty Dumpty drone. I have both the Avata OG and the Avata 2. You shouldn't have rushed to fly it in Manual Mode over water. Anytime you get a new drone and you're going to use Manual Mode do it over grass.
    Get to learn that drone. Also, learning to go into the settings and learning the following:
    Pitch, Roll and Yaw. Next in each category learn Center Max Rate and Expo.
    (Pitch) is your rise and fall.
    (Roll) can be in any direction with the right stick that causes the aircraft to rotate in a 360˚ direction. I am sure many already know this, just putting it out there for those that may not.
    (Yaw) is what causes the aircraft to to pitch left or right (Done with the Left stick)
    (Center) is basically think of your drone balancing on a round object. The higher the number the smaller the round object your drone is balancing on. 1.0 balancing on a golf ball, .54 maybe a baseball. .4 like a softball. You basically get more surface on what your drone is on. giving you more balance and helping it stay in control while a higher number will be harder to control and more for experienced pilots that know how to use it.
    (Max Rate) - This is the speed of you will obtain say 400 at full stick. The higher the number the faster it will rise, roll or Yaw.
    (Expo) This is as you move your stick when the rates will kick up. The lower the rate the further up with the stick you will have to move it to get it to reach full throttle. Lower number just giving a little throttle will cause the aircraft to respond sooner to the direction you move your stick. (If this damn thing is low I should know when I tried to pull out of drop and tried to give it full throttle and it was slow to respond and caused it to bottom out on some sand destroying the sensors on the bottom of my OG Avata.) It's good to find a balance with this. I wouldn't jam it to 1.0 but maybe .75 on your Pitch to give you more thrust when you need it in an emergency.
    I am sorry you lost your drone and your experience with DJI, but like in everything what you learn in a simulator can teach you a lot, to flying the actual drone. Like experiencing (Prop Wash) when trying to recover from a drop you probably won't learn from a simulator unless you turn it on. This may have also contributed to you not being able to recover your drone and in the water it went.
    I have flown over water a few times, but not till I really got myself aquatinted with my drones and knew what they can and cannot do and understood that there are times we will do a hard turn or dive and run into possible prop wash. I know it sucks, but don't give up!
    Best of Luck to you!

      @Tuzzie902 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yaw is your left and right rotation not pitch left or right. pitch is your angle forward and back not rise and fall. roll is not "any direction" it banks the aircraft to the left or to the right

    Sigh. I have to admit a generation gap. I posses a private pilot single engine land instrument rating plus a complex, tail wheel and gyroplane endorsements. I have never engaged in video games and find the controls for drones very alien. Full disclosure I also have my commercial drone license. Why hasn't a joy stick interface which can be used with the DJI system or others which is more cockpit -like familiar flight controls be offered? It seems even the ground based expensive controller still have the fiddly controls and buttons. Too bad a gamer designed the interface and left out a vast segment of the market. Give me a throttle, stick and rudder with an attitude indicator, altitude, etc ie the basic six pack scan. It's all there just scattered and displayed in a manner which is non standardized and foreign to those who pre date and presently exist in the air.

    • @sea_kerman
      @sea_kerman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s because a flight yoke and throttle cannot physically be moved fast enough to perform the needed actions. The inertia of the stick and your arm/hand is too high. During some of the more involved racing and freestyle maneuvers you need to go from full deflection one way to full deflection the other way, and zero to full throttle to zero, several times per second. Your thumb and a small gimbal are light enough to do this. You can try flying in Liftoff with a HOTAS to see this, you can do slow swoopy flight ok but faster maneuvers are impractical. Also, you can stick a Radiomaster Boxer in a backpack, you can’t really with a big flight stick.

    • @ZittyTV
      @ZittyTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course it wasn't the best idea, but flying over water isn't the problem here. Even if I crashed over land, and sent it in for repair, they still would've had charged the repair cost since they're denying any error took place.. Looking at the video, does it seem to you like I was flying in a risky manor (other than being over water) ? And does it seem like the drone responded to my inputs correctly? At no point during the last few seconds of the maneuver was I inputing any pitch forward, yet the drone was detecting a pitch forward. The actual footage (not the flight logs) shows this, just watch the horizon level. I start pulling the right stick back to try to start a climb, and when I realize it refuses to pitch any further, I try punching out (never failed before). Based of the flight logs, and the inputs I made, it seems like there was some sort of phantom 50% pitch forward detected. If I had actually been inputing forward pitch, the horizon would've went out of frame.

    First off why are you flying over water that is your fault and you had a fail safe happen and return to home did not kick in stop flying over water unless your super rich and can keep buying new drones and get a bind and fly drone iflight has really good ones and learn how to fly in angle mode and understand how a drone works learn betaflight and how to set up your drone if you cant do that because of time find a new hobby because flying a drone you need to understand how they work and how to set one up and repair one, this just get up in the air and fly is the wrong way to learn and yes your going to crash and break things everybody does but what your doing is bypassing the learning so you will never learn but first thing is STOP FLYING OVER WATER THAT IS A STUPID THING TO DO.

      Neither the FPV or the avata 1 are that ... but the avata 2 might just be that. However now t hey come standard with the motion controller which is a gimmick. I hope soon they will allow headtracking in combination with the controller 3. Because I am afraid people that have never flown anything will get stuck with the motion controller and to afraid (or broke) to get the controller 3. Would be a shame because you can fly 10x more accurate with it.
