    Hi Rita! Awesome video! You did a great job explaining what you have with you when you travel, and why you have it. Beautiful picture of Otani and Yozora at 1:20 ... that is one to be framed! Thank you for another great video!

    Another excellent video! LOVE the big cat carrier. I wish we had gotten that before we got the two plastic carriers. We got those because I have back problems and, unfortunately, cannot carry two cats at once. Keeping them together is much better when possible. Again, great vid!

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! There is a simple solution for that, just get a folding platform with wheels & put the big carrier on it, then you don't have to carry it. 😉

    I tried to walk with my cat on a long leash by using an extendable leash (only 3 meters long) and a shorter clip on leash that came with her harness together for extra length, we were only just outside my front door but it got all tangled up around trees when she went exploring into the front garden. She wouldn't go back where she came from and I couldn't reach in to grab her. I fixed the situation though by just unclipping the shorter leash, retracting the longer leash and while still holding onto the shorter leash I was able to find my way around to where she was as she had managed to move towards the edge of the garden instead of further into the garden. Scared me for a bit though, I couldn't get her to come out where she came in from with treats, she just kept trying to pull in the wrong direction and I was so scared she was going to get out of her harness. Now I'm too afraid to let her have a long leash in case a situation like that happens again but worse. How do you manage with such long leashes? Do your cats wonder off and get tangled up? Your channel has inspired me to try and give my cat more freedom while being safe, but I fear I'm doing it all wrong. Thank you for all the videos you do.

      Glad my videos motivated you to walk your cat.
      I have a lot of detailed tutorials on how to train cats to go on walks, I recommend watching them.
      It doesn't sound like the cat was following you at all & sounds more like you let her far to the front into the bushes & between the trees & had a lot of distance to her. When there are so many obstacles a leash can get tangled, you need to stay close of course. And of course a cat won't come back out, where she came from. She wants to move forward, it wouldn't make sense to her to go the same way back. So, the length of the leash wasn't the cause of the problem, the cause was your distance to your cat. After all, you can stay close if needed while using a long leash as well. And if she goes somewhere, where you can't reach her, then don't let her go in there in the first place. Stop her with the leash before she gets out of reach & call her with treats to you. Motivate her to stay on the path through food, cuddle & praise. If she likes playing with toys, you can try using them as well.
      I walk my cats on trails in nature & they are trained to stay on the trails, so my long leashes don't get tangled up.
      The location you chose is one that I advise against in my tutorials. I recommend always nature for a very good reason. In city/village-areas all the scents & stimuli redirect the cat so much, that training is extremely difficult. Only if a cat learned in calm nature to follow & listen, you can have the hope, that the cat will listen to you in areas with more stimuli.
      Only if your garden is fenced securely (high enough) & the cat can't see through (can't see strangers, dogs, cars, outdoor cats pass by) & she doesn't show fear & isn't extremely distracted, you can try training it in your garden. If not, the location is unfitting.
      The type of treats is very important as well. No dry-food, treat sticks or anything dried. What kind of treats are best for outdoor training or in general I explain in my tutorials.
      Also a cat needs training at home. Like anti-fear/trust-training. This training isn't only about trust & letting a cat lose fear of things it's scared of (like e.g. vacuum cleaner), it's also about teaching a cat to work with its owner while a big distraction is going on. *Very important training!*
      Also it needs to be trained to listen & follow on leash at home. And it needs to be trained outdoors from the first time on as well to follow. Letting it walk infront of you, is not a good idea. It should be behind you or next to you.
      All of this information & a lot more you can find in my tutorials.
      Here my playlist with all my tutorials about walking cats:
      th-cam.com/play/PLz2-JM3q5bi5HOXzWspq3x3Wobga6A8c2.html
      Here you can find my anti-fear/trust-training tutorials:
      th-cam.com/play/PLz2-JM3q5bi62nhJ6rABidyRFYIv_479r.html
      And if you want to go on proper walks with your cat (in nature), then you should get a longer leash. 3m is quite short. But again, only let the cat use the whole length of the leash, if there isn't a possibility of it getting tangled up. Stay close if needed.

    This is so lovely! When I get a cat again, I intend to bring them outside with me like this. I also ride everywhere by bicycle and loved the bike basket setup you made! They looked so relaxed and cozy in there. You must be an awesome cat mama. 😊

      Thank you very much! Glad you liked it & that it motivated you to take your future cat(s) outdoors with you as well.
      For a while now, I use a bike trailer instead of a bike basket, because I have now 3 cats. You can see the bike trailers rides, the walks etc...with my new cats on my channel as well.

    Are your cats used to using the bathroom outside when on hikes/walks? How do you train them to it?

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, my cats use the bathroom outdoors. Training isn`t really necessary, since cats will do that naturally...but there is certain things to pay attention to:
      1. Cats only use certain types of spots, where they can dig a hole & cover they "business" afterwards. (So, do the same thing, they do in litter box.)
      Mostly areas with sand, soil or similar. Most cats will also use snow in winter.
      Some cats will also use spots with a lot of fallen leaves or pee in water puddles, if it`s raining.
      Cats won`t use the bathroom on concrete, stone, grass or very dried up/hard soil...so anything, where digging isn`t possible.
      2. The spot needs to be calm, so they aren`t disturbed. So, with no strangers around, loud noises, dogs etc. Only if they feel safe & relaxed, they will do it.
      So, if you want your cats do to their business outdoors, be on the look out for good spots...lead them there & if they have to go, they will. Some cats may need a couple of walks before they dare to do use the bathroom the first time outdoors...they will start doing it, when they feel safe enough outdoors.

    How do you get the harness and leash on the cat in the first place? Make a video showing this? My problem is that my cat wont let me put them on him and the holes for his head and body are too small on the standard harness i have

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you have a kitten harness? Standard Harnesses for adult cats should fit any regular cat, because the holes can be made wide enough.
      Or you have an unusual large cat (like Maine Coon or something)...then buy a harness for large cats.
      I have tutorials on how to train a cat to wear a harness & walk on leash:
      th-cam.com/play/PLz2-JM3q5bi5HOXzWspq3x3Wobga6A8c2.html
      In this Playlist you will find all my tutorials related to walking cats.
      The 3rd video is the tutorial with the harness-training.
      I recommend using the exact same type of harness I show in my videos. The brand doesn't matter, I mean just the construction of the harness.

    Can my 8.7 kg cat fit into a pecute backpack?

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are 2 sizes of the pecute backpack. In the video it`s size "L", which is the smaller size. Recently pecute made a larger size "XL"...I recommend for your cat size "XL". So, yes your cat will fit in XL.
      Make sure to pick a backpack that can be extended at the back. Pecute has backpacks with & without the extension.
      Best Regards, Rita
