The Alexandra is a very old pattern that is great fun to tie as well as fish. There are a number of interesting aspects tot he recipe for this pattern that I mention in the video as well as go into great detail in the blog post on the Alexandra on DresedIrons.com. This is a fly well worth tying as it works well in warmwater situations as well as coldwater. - Enjoy

Your entire wet fly tying series from Ray Bergman's book are not only fantastic ties but also your presentation and repetitive instruction promote the proper technique and skills required to tie better flies consistently. My thanks and appreciation for passing your knowledge on to others.

You are most welcome!! You are correct that consistency and repetition are very important if you want to tie good flies that all look alike (it is kind of like learning to play a tune on the piano.... you have to practice, no way around it). That said, there is great fun in tying flies that may not look great (or constant) but still catch fish. Thank you for your feedback and kind words, they are very much appreciated!! - Ian Anderson

I just ran across this fly while surfing fly tying videos. Probably sacrilege to the pro-Alexandra ban blokes 🙂, but I do believe this would work well for Texas stock pond bass and bluegills. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you found the video and thank for the comment. It is a very good pattern for both stream and pond bass. I am unaware of a "pro-Alexandra ban". Then again there is much going on in regards to the internet that I am unaware. Some folks don't like the Alexandra? - Ian Anderson

@@DressedIrons I was just being snarky, making fun of the folks that apparently thought that the Alexandra caught too many fish. 🙂

@Michael Ogden Got it, at one time it was banned. Problem is, these days you don't know who is going to have some issue with what.... 😋- Ian Anderson

An all time great.I'm sure you know the history on this one. They almost banned from competition fishing,it was catching too many fish.A great fly here in the Smokey Mountains of NC.A great tip I have done for years, with the tag.I add jungle cock to mine too.Have a great week my friend. Ken & Linda, thank you for the compliments and the comments. I have seen a few people who have tied in jungle cock as well. I had read about this fly almost being banned and I can easily see why. I am planning on tying some longer/larger versions for some Smallmouth this summer. Hope I get banned! 😁 - Ian Anderson

Glad you like the video. The Alexandria is one of the prettiest flies in the wet fly category. Something about the greens, blues and reds that comes together well. Plus, it catches fish! - Ian Anderson
