Hi from Kansas City 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes
At the fly shop we have a few old guys who are just in Love with Hardy rods&reels. I made some Hardy favorite's for them . They were well received. Thanks for your help getting this fly done. It took me a lot longer than it took you to tye .Lol🎣🤠 Dave

Matt!! Just another reason I love your channel you breath life into the old classics ,wet fly fishing and tying has become a lost art.only a few miles from where I live flows the loyal sock creek ,every June a historical group of fly fishers called the "whistle pigs " gather at Lundy's riffles to swing wet flys,I've participated, what a great time ..thanks agian for respecting our history

Great tie Matt! Another for the list 👍. TH-cam and people like you are so informative and helpful to those of us who would like to learn new things. I always had an interest in learning to tie flys , but books are a bit confusing on technique sometimes. Its such a pleasure to sit down and watch you and others exceptional tiers on TH-cam. It just seems to make more sense to observe different techniques then apply them to find your own style that works for yourself. Thanks again and keep up the good work on the videos we all appreciate them !!

Thank you Mike! It's my pleasure and getting kind and encouraging comments like this really keep me going. It's a great sport and so many of the tiers out there are very welcoming. It's just a fun community to be in. I'm glad you found us. :-)

Well done Matt! Really love when a person turns their passion into a youtube channel. Love the textures on this. Full watch as always friend

Thanks Sarge! Some flies are easier to get passionate about. Some are just, meh, they look okay and will probably catch fish but are kind of boring. The ones with some history behind them are kind of cool. (And, appreciate the support. I'm doing the same for you my friend!)

Man you nailed every part of this fly. Great job. I’ll be taking a look for the book recommendation. Awesome video. Thank you Sir. Incredible looking fly. Just found Claudes book and purchased it. Used $5.84. Great deal. Actually found it from back home, in Indiana.

I still fish with those old traditional wet flies. Their my secret flies. They work great but you have to tie them cuz they don’t offer them anymore. Tyler’s just don’t like to set those wings which does take practice. You’ve done a beautiful job on that old fly. I do enjoy your videos and thanks.

Thank you Stan, I really appreciate the encouraging comment! And you're 100% right that a lot of tiers just don't tie them anymore. And if you look at the fly bins in most shops, nymphs out number these old winged wet flies at least 10 to 1.

Thanks Colin! How's your tying coming along? I liked your Grey Monkey. I've never tied anything for saltwater but maybe I will someday. :-)

When I tie this fly, I wrap two peacock herls around the hook shank for the abdomen and then wrap the red floss over it to reinforce the peacock herls. I think that is how the original fly was tied.

This is a fantastic classic wet, Matt. Thanks for sharing. I have a pretty good fly tying library, but that book isn't part of it. Might have to rectify that.

You should! As cheesy as it looks, and as dated as it is (he talks about the best film to use for taking pictures of bugs), it's really got some good info. And probably 50+ pictures of some classic flies. Let me know if you have any good books to recommend. I'm always looking for fun new patterns too. :-)

Make sure is the 'tier's reference'. Hughes hs several books, but that one is the masterpiece in my opinion.
