I’ve only been doing OMAD/23-1 for the last 4 days. I didn’t start gradually but it’s been great. I’ve been going through depression for my entire adult life, and I feel like I just woke up. Idk how else to explain it but I just feel so much better about myself and my life. I still don’t like where I am right now but that constant cloud of despair has finally lifted. I can see positives again. I’ve been setting major life goals that I actually believe in again.
Is this the first fasting you have ever done? Today is my first day on the water fast and I’m panicking at just the thought of it. I plan on transitioning to either IF or OMAD afterwards for a lifestyle type of change. CONGRATS!!! And update!
@@s.fraser5221 Thanks!!! I did OMAD for a few months as an average sized, angsty teenager. I only ate dinner with the fam. It worked and I lost the 15lbs I was trying to lose within weeks. Unfortunately, I forgot about it and never did it again. 20 years later and I’ve rediscovered this path to weight loss. I also do a 13min low intensity workout on YT called HighwayFit twice a day(it’s mostly stretching). I’m still going strong and I haven’t cheated once. I believe I’m doing it in a much healthier way this time and the mental clarity is enough for me to keep this as a part of my life for as long as I live. I’m 6lbs down and I have a lot more to go. I’m no expert so I’m still figuring things out but I think it’s important to find a dietary lifestyle that works and makes you feel good. This simple change has brought me so much peace that I’ve been telling everyone who will listen to me more than 5 seconds to try it. So I’m in your corner. Go for it!!!

I believe that many people have damaged their metabolism through a high carbohydrate diet. Everybody in my family and that I know has not actually gained weight as they age. Most have stayed the same and a few have lost weight. One thing they have in common is lower carbohydrate diet and only occasionally eat bread.
@@bighands69 metabolic slow down is natural and there's no way to avoid it, the older we get, the less calories we need for optimal health. All our organs functions are slowing as we age, so they don't take as much energy to perform their tasks. People who eat less carbs and no sugar are consuming less calories than those who eat more carbs and sugar, so they won't really notice the changes to their metabolic rate when they're older.
@@bighands69 the same with my family. My grandfather at 73 is 140lb at 5'9 and it's still strong and capable. He fells trees and chops firewood for the winter, replacing his house's roof with metal single-handedly last autumn. His mother is similar and she still drives and lives alone at 91. Eating twice a day and only when you get hungry, i.e. not first thing in the morning, and especially lower carb even if not keto. They eat eggs, chicken things with vegetables, legumes and beans name up the majority of their carb intake, plus some old fashioned oats with sour cranberries in it and no sugar or milk, etcetera. I mostly eat carnivorously but sprinkle in some seeds and fruit and whole milk and cream. Very occasionally beans, lentils, or peas as an ingredient in a soup or such. Maybe homemade desserts every couple months like a half sweet cheesecake with wild picked fruit in it, or a crumble with butter and oats on top of unsweetened, also wild picked fruit. But never snacks, besides an occasional drop of cream in coffee. If I slip up and have a snack then in my book that was my meal, so I better not waste it on something stupid.
I lost 90 lbs (I'm 25 lbs less than my goal weight was) I do high intensity resistance training to gain muscle. When l was just losing fat, I had no problem doing intermittent and extended fasting. But since starting strength training, I just can't go more than 14 to 16 hours without eating. I am ravenous. BTW I'm 76.
I'm 71 and just started IF four weeks ago to try to improve my allergies to nearly all my favourite foods, either nightshade or high histamine. Excluding most foods left me with nothing much to eat or drink. I was down to just nettle tea or hot water for several days. I found my skin rashes and irritation on my scalp, eyes, face, neck and chest subsided quickly when I fasted. Got very little help from my GP who even sent me to A&E not long ago as he couldn't deal with it. Well they couldn't either. Needless to say I was back in square one feeling desperate. Steroid creams always didn't help for long. I felt I needed to get to the root of the problem and reset my system. Then I found so much info on YT and all these good people sharing their knowledge. Never even knew the term autophagy! So now I help myself by fasting 16 - 18 hours a day. I aim to do this four times a week and eat mainly low carb on the other days, drinking enough water daily with my vitamin C and zinc etc. It's a good feeling. Need to up my exercise now.😊
I like the 20/4 approach. I don't need to worry about breakfast and lunch. This way of eating allows me eat each evening whether I'm home or out and about. A win -win.
A fasting hack I just learned from another channel said it's beneficial to have a tablespoon of healthy fat a few hours before breaking fast because: 1. curbs hunger pangs. 2. doesn't break the fast 3. teaches the body to use fat as fuel source.Been trying it for 2 weeks. That coconut or Italian Olive oil tastes extra good!
Fat doesn't spike insulin, that's the entire game of Fasting to make your insulin stable and keep it in a controlled state. Let's say I take unsweetened peanut butter before I break my fast and it has a GI of just 14.
Great video I am fasting today 48 hours I'm tired of living with inflammation and even though I hate fasting I'm doing it because the outcome is going to be all worth it.
I fast every day now. Sometimes for 48 or 72 hours at a time. Keep it up. The benefits are enormous! No more high blood pressure and blood sugar. 53 lbs down and counting! You can do it!
When I break my fast, I will switch up, moving the time up or down a few hours. But I've found that I have gained great benefit from starting my fast well before my bedtime. I sleep so much better having a 3 to 4 hour break between eating and sleep.

Yeah this is my best schedule. I work out and play Soccer very regularly. So I need the 8 hours to eat what I'm supposed to. That being said there are days where I go 20. It is ok to have black coffee, herbal teas, Unsweetened Almond milk, Sugar free electrolytes, lemon juice and lots of water in your fasting window. It does get easier with time. Just hang in there and watch your weight melt away. It really works and your weight loss will be visible some weeks more than others. If I can do it you can too. All the best.
Fully agree. Fasting has to be customised to meet individual needs and capabilities. I'm underweight, I don't fast to lose weight, but my aim is to build up my immune system. I'm also hoping to overcome some autoimmune issues.
Hi mike thanks for this video very enlightening. My quick experience, I’m a driving instructor in uk doing intensive courses, I used to have dinner about 6 pm nothing till 11 am next day ,so basically 18/6 fasting. I weighed 17 stone 9 pounds, felt really tired aches an pains all over ,I thought I was getting old at 72 years . On September first this year I changed everything no sugar, no bread , no milk, no grains, no fizzy drinks, no chocolate and cookies. Started day with bulletproof coffee mct oil etc etc in 8 weeks I’d lost 2 stones and felt absolutely fantastic. Better brain function, no aches an pains blood pressure down to normal, loads of energy, in fact I don’t ever remember feeling this good in my whole 72 years. So three months later I’m down 50 pounds and switching between omad and 2 mad usually around the same times as you suggest. I’ve had no cravings for chocolate or cookies which I used to eat a lot of , now and again I just have a small amount of chocolate but it doesn’t taste as good as before September first. My go to drinks while fasting are ACV with lemon juice. ACV with water and Himalayan pink salt. Pressed coconut water. Occasionally some herbal teas and black tea or coffee. Dave Asprey was my first introduction to fasting but you and Thomas delaur, dr berg and dr ekberg are my go to people now. So thanks again for your content.
Once you get over that hungry feeling, your well on your way. Feeling hungry is largely habit based and subjective. Once you past that your gold. In the beginning when you feel hungry just drink water (with lemon juice is good) it will help diminish the pang
["3/18/21, Its our innerstanding coffee, tea, broths of course water are Ok during fasting times. Even taking supplements (not synthetic supplements) ok, too."]
I personally do not agree that intermittent fasting should be done in a consistent pattern. Intermittent means occurring at irregular intervals and my body actually respond better to irregular intervals (16 hours fasting one day, next could be 18 or 24 or 29 hours or more or even a whole day break in fasting). What works for John may not always work for Jane. So, I’ll continue to do what works for me.
I kinda agree with you but I found that when I do OMAD most of the time I achieve better but when I hit a plateau I go 18/6 till I go back to losing fat and go back to OMAD So yes I think it works according to the person
Agree with you. Historically the human animal did not have regular mealtimes and meals and availability of food differed with the seasons. I think (no accurate data to support my view but then, neither did the presenter provide any data to support his thesis) that an irregular pattern of eating/fasting is best for me. Glad to see others also think in this way. 🌲🌝☘️
I believe some research on the fast breaking hours was made and “they” came up with “the conclusion” that having a first meal at 12 p.m. and a second and last at 5 p.m. has many health benefits. I’ve been doing it and it seems to be just right FOR ME as it seems like my body tends to naturally incline towards this pattern. The mystery of general versus individuality... AND just like you said it varies from one person to another.

Such good advice Mike. I tried to introduce my overweight sister to trf but she chose to only do it 2 days a week. After 2weeks of doing trf for 2 out of 7 days she found she had not lost any weight. I started fasting 10 days ago combined with the ketogenic diet. The first three days I had two meals a day and when I realized I was not difficult to me I switched to OMAD. As result, I have lost 10 pounds in ten days, it may be fat or water. Whatever it is, is enough to keep me motivated. Another benefit is that I don’t feel hungry all day, I can barely eat a hole meaI. I also have tons of energy, not more depression and more mental clarity. I can stick to this lifestyle for the rest of my life.
I have been doing intermittent fasting over 18 months and I love it!! I am 56years old and I feel healthier, stronger and happier. Totally agree with your advice from my experience with it. I'm on OMAD (24/1) for last 9 months and it is awesome, never felt better. I only take a break from it on weekends when I have to have launch and dinner with my family. Everybody keep saying how wrong I am and how I harm my body but they don't understand how well I feel in my own body, they thing I suffer of hunger, but I almost never feel hungry. Oh, and every second month I do 45 hours fast, which is absolutely great, I feel I can go a lot longer over that. Every time I feel down from being told that I should eat three meals a day, I come here looking for a video that says OMAD is bad, but found none, so this motivates me to keep going no matter what people say. Thanks for this video

AWESOME VIDEO MIKE! I am 58 and have been on a keto/carnivore food plan for 2.5 years doing mostly 16:8 and lost 125 lbs. BUT about 2 months ago hit a stall so began OMAD after listening to your wife (love her) talk about it. I began OMAD (dinner ony at 4-5pm) and even though I am not a diabetic I would get up with high sugar, I get up at 3-4 am. It never felt right and I was always hungry by 10-11 am no matter what. I slowly began moving the eating window back and my meal is now between 12-2PM-ish everyday. I am back loosing again having now lost another 10lbs, just by moving the time of my window to feast. Timing to ones lifestyle is key! What a amazing difference, I feel better, blood sugars are under 100 in the AM and ketones have now normalized. Eating so late and having to get up so early, my body was still working on dinner. Timing & consistency are clearly big key pieces to the personal puzzle!!!!
I’m doing the ADF fasting window 40/8. I started fasting 16/8, then 18/6, and finally 21/3. 40/8 was hard the first fast but has gotten easier. I’ve done it 8 days.
U may like listening to some Dr Mindy Pelz's videos. She's in accordance with all these top fasting/ keto experts, but she focuses on women. She balances fasting (breaking down) with feasting (building) days. She just did a video with the guy from Keto Kamp. I fast only 5 days a week. Building up to a 3 day fast. Have done 30 hours. Did you do shorter fasts before the 40?
@Creeping Death I can't answer for Susan or anyone else, but I've done some 72 and 96 hour fasts. Only a couple of times have I had trouble sleeping, and I can't really find a pattern as to what might have been different those times. I think this, as a lot of things about fasting, varies a great deal from person to person. If I had trouble sleeping every time I wouldn't do it. A good sleep should always come first, as far as I'm concerned.
@@empebee losing sleep is a side affect of fasting. I HATE it but it's technically not bad because the body ia producing more cortisol since it's in a stressed state and therefore doesn't need the sleep. That's part of the process that allows the breakdown of the crap that needs to go. With the refeed comes repair. Im on a 3 day fast right now. Expecting 3 sleepless nights.
There are exact opposite claims out there of what times to fast. Some say that it helps with metabolic flexibility to mix things up with eating windows.
Thanks for this consistent advise which makes good sense to a 74 year old retired physician. I have been on a keto diet for 10 months for muscular pain linked with Lyme disease and T2D and after a few weeks easily reduced fat intake and kept my ketone level between 1-2 mmol, reached a regular 2-3 kg per month weight loss, reversed my pains and T2D moving easily to 16/8 IF and after a month I moved to OMAD and started workouts before my midday meal. I have now lost 25kg and have now almost reached my ideal weight of 64 kg, my family and friends finding that I am 20 years younger than before. Keeping a regular rhythm as you advise, has many obvious advantages but I have been attempting to move to longer fasts and have been able to occasionally adopt a 36 hour fast with no difficulty other than the question of a convenient timing. I am not a fan of a big meal in the evening and I want to avoid eating in the morning before my work outs. The only alternative I see is moving on to a 48 hour fast. I also find it difficult to get enough protein in OMAD and it would be worse in a 36 or 48 hour fast, especially as I want to stop losing weight and hope to gain muscle mass without reactivating my T2D and muscular pain which seems to come back when I move to a lower ketosis. Should I be contented with OMAD? Should I reintroduce carbs and attempt 3 meals a day with a 48h fast once a week??
Are you only using natural products? When doing OMAD i fill in my protein intake after my meals with a protein shake, sometimes that might be as high as 60g from one shake. Usually around 20-40g.
In regards to your other questions, some opt for intermittent fasting with a 48 or 72 hr fast in between. I'm an (retired, hah Im 26) athlete, when doing power sports relatively intense I cant be fasted for more than 24hrs, fatigue kicks in real fast. It depends on your lifestyle. Since you used to be a physician, investigate yourself. Not neccesarily objectively, but subjectively. Write down what you did for day X and how did that make you feel and perform? That is going to give insights in how your situation works out. Everyone is different. Key words are also to give your guts rest. Ask yourself this question as well.
I am keeping daily trace of my condition and lifestyle that is unfortunately more focalised on T2D and Lyme than on keto Weight loss is no longer a goal, but rather building muscle. I try not to exceed 25 g of isolate whey in my 50-75 g protein intake (1m70, 64kg) I have tried reintroducing carbs, perhaps too hastily, that seem to bring a relapse of neuromuscular pains. I am not too keen on meat but use nuts, eggs, fish,

Great video. Your argument makes sense, not just in regard to the circadian but also in terms of hunger (ghrelin). Studies show that ghrelin raises whenever we expect food. Whenever I change my "feeding window", I can really feel this!
I tried every protocol of IF out there and right now I'm doing ADF, so far for me is the most effective in burning fat, is melting away. I might change it when I get to my goal weight. People are different, my advise is to try for yourself and choose what works for you, some people prefer to vary, others work better doing the same thing every day and that's ok, as long as you feel good. Listen to you body and hunger! 💪🥩
Leaning into it is clutch. Whenever I get out of the IF cycle I always start by pushing breakfast later and later into the day until I just have lunch. You can do the same thing with dinner, by eating earlier and earlier until you hit the desired window.

I water fast 21/3 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday whatever I want but in moderation Saturday same Sunday, I'm cutting food getting ready for my fasting week. For now this is for me
Jason Fung MD says just the opposite. Then eats perhaps some Sardines. Still hungry? Then eats some raw liver. Or more meat -- or whatever. But that's like a _handful days_ in a month - probably because I was more active then usual or something, or the meat was leaner than expected. Most days my energy requirements are pretty predictable, and the one meal is sized enough. So, again: I just eat until I'm not hungry. I'm 52 yrs old and only 5ft9 with large bones and big feet that I never grew into; LOL; so when I get down to 190-195 I look and feel a lot better. I wish I knew this would be so easy 5-7 yrs ago when I had first gotten so heavy. Once I get back to 190-195 I'll be doing OMAD on and off to keep my weight in this range permanently. OMAD is so simple and cost effective I think everyone he needs to lose a few pounds should give it a honest try.
I've found that time-restricted eating doesn't really work for me, because my work/life schedule is not consistent. But what I have learned is that I can tolerate 48-60 hour fasts every other week, consuming only water, black coffee, and electrolytes.
I heard in an interview with someone with extreme knowledge of the body that consuming caffeine (also herbal teas) breaks the fast because the body/kidneys have to breakdown the caffeine in the body....of course you’re still getting an extreme calorie deficit with only black coffee but it does interfere with the most optimum benefit of IT. “They say only water” during the fast....
José Francisco I heard that water only was truly what keeps the fast.....I’m not an expert, but have heard discussions from people who are. Just saying what I have heard.
@@Burkhimself oh well, thanks anyway. It's just that water alone is bad because we also need electrolytes, so some say we should add salt to it, but no one mentions electrolyte powder
@@josefrancisco4178 Yes, agree; the water only fasting - without adding salt - seems taxing to the kidneys; flushing away minerals can also be dangerous. For example BP can easily fall too low (which is why at True North Clinic Alan Goldhamer does not allow patients to shower or bath). Also, if consuming too much water, Hyponaetremia can develop, because anti-diuretic hormone is excreted - locking water in cells; this seems more prevalent in those who are active, younger, with higher metabolism (see Prof Tim Noakes' WATERLOGGED). In older people, and those with low metabolism, the result is more often suppression of urinary retention hormone, with result Diabetes Insipidus, which is just a fancy term for incontinence. DI can be rectified by resetting the urinary retention through dry fasting (like I did: 24/40/96 hours with fast broken in between). Find dry fasting easier to do, since with no water entering the stomach, hunger is less. Through Autophagy the body produces its own, pure water from breaking defective, and old, not needed cells. For proper filtration to take place, and to take up minerals, water need to move slowly through the kidneys, not flush through.

I do keto. My husband doesn’t do keto. He has Type 2D and Gout. We dry fast for 2 alternate days every week. Thats a 12 hour fast. It has improved his uric acid and insulin level immensely. Love your videos.
I’m a believer in fasting. This information is the exact opposite of Thomas DeLaur tho. Thomas states we need to ‘mix it up’ to avoid our bodies from becoming adaptive.
Very intelligent video. Rather than trying to describe a one size fits all approach for everybody you've allowed everyone watching this to take control of their own health / diet / lifestyle and find what works best for them! Great video, thank you.
Thank you! I started with TMAD 12 and 6 and that was fun but I wanted to go the extra mile by doing OMAD eating for one hour at 5 or 6 but it’s just not fun actually. It’s too much of a struggle and I’m failing. So I’m going to stick to two meals 12 and 6 which your video is inspiring me to think what works best for me! Thanks!
Its VERY different depending on the person. I did intermittent fasting way before it was a recognised science. 2003 it just became a pattern that worked. I was doing 6Km jogging/running most evenings after work. Id eat last meal at ~17h and then jog around 20h ~30mins. My fast ended with a meal around 9h next day which was the largest meal of the day. Juxtapose to my Dad who started doing this stuff he's a big dinner ~19h person and does not eat until the afternoon ~13h. Both worked for a variety of health benefits.
I like your approach. I worked into the best balance of food and fasting. My fasting allows my body the ability to clean my body and utilize stored potential (use fat for energy, make water, recycle nutrients and other 'house cleaning' impossible during nutrient input time. Your guidance, is well articulated, like listening to informed financial planning consultants. You employ a working approach model with excellent methods to tailor individual needs to. Your presentation illustrates effective, "best for you", implementations of fast/eat/drink timelines. Sometimes schedules and demands will effect sleep, eating options and opportunities, along with the work/life balance of family, alone time, play, recreation, prayer, meditation, yoga, and that long walk in the wilderness, sometimes through the valley of uncertainty and death to old and new ways. I aim for 20/4, but sometimes I give my body an opportunity to stretch out with varied times and expectations. I have been a health "nut", as if being healthy is "nutty", since my competitive days serving in the United States Marine Corps the second half of the 1980s. I have also ignored the good advice and paid some health debits. I would have paid a bigger health price than just deteriorated joints, increasing body fat, insulin resistance issues, if I had given up on practicing good health practices for extended periods of time. My parents kicked off good health with breast feeding, balanced diets as a young man and then I dropped the ball until I got into shape trying out for high school sports, then fumbled again in college before getting into shape for the Marine Corps, and again after working for the DOT, when I was diagnosed with overused joint and deterioration. I feel into a pity-party when I had to stop running and took up the unlikely sport of hiking. I am now finding better pain relief with diet and I look forward to entering my sixth decade in fine, rugged, slightly scared, joyful health. Thank you
Been on keto for over a year the fasting just cames natural. I never have to look at the clock i just go 20 hour without food and dont even think about it. Also, i feel an unexplainable well being the longer I go.
I’m T2D and I don’t use any meds. I want to use IF to control my blood sugar levels. I also believe I have fatty liver which is why I can’t seem to lose weight. I’m currently on an OMAD diet since yesterday. I plan on increasing to 36 hour fasting. I eat low carb. Oh, I’m 235 and 5F7in
My goals are long term health maintenance (don't die at 50 from a preventable disease), and enhanced cognitive performance. I plan to eat keto ~1/2 of the year, and to eat moderate-low carb the rest of the year, for a few decades (eventually eating carbs less and less?). I'd like to have some muffins in my life, at least early on. While eating moderate carb, I'd like to do hard 36 hour fasts (inspired by metabolic mondays) each week, to mitigate the effects of a low-strictness kind of low-carb eating. I suppose I'd need to maintain high fat adaption (for a multitude of reasons), even during the seasons when I up carb intake. Hopefully the fasts will help this, along with generally opting, when options allow, for low-zero carb meals, *particularly* near the fast. Generally aiming, with a loose grip, to not eat 100g of carbs every day, seems like a sustainable, solid, sociable goal. As well, a late-morning zero carb breakfast and an early dinner is a year-round easy protocol to follow. I'll take eggs and bacon over cereal any day.
Impressed with how well you are able to communicate science language in layman's terminology for the public mass. Well done, thank you for sharing your knowledge ♡
LIKED the vid: I agree, with mostly everything you said Mike, I will just add that I think that for those just starting or trying IF they should "ease" their way into it. Fasting is no joke. Aside for getting ready for some type of "event" in a relatively short period of time, I don't think it is optimal to be so aggressive initially. Reason is because if you go at IF too aggressively you give your body less time to adapt to the change in your eating pattern. Also the more aggressive you are initially the less time you give yourself to progress into longer fast (i.e. OMAD, Alternate Day Fasting, or extended fasts like 36-48hrs). The hormone grehlin is a powerful physiological response in becoming in a fasted state, especially when your body isn't "adapted to fasting". Having said all that, my main concern for those just starting out with intermittent fasting is once your fast is over people should be mindful enough not to BINGE during their respective feeding window. To do so is counterintuitive to the whole reason/s behind fasting in the first place. DEUCES
Exactly. I’ve experienced this firsthand. Always skipping breakfast means your metabolism eventually doesn’t get active until noon. It’s adjusting itself. That the “hibernation” mode you don’t want your body to be in
Had a stall on keto and 16:8 for four weeks and nearly gave up. I went grocery shopping and comforted my self with a huge amount of carbs. Felt like crap and went back to my keto regiment but sprinkled in OMAD once in a while. It seems my metabolism has been resetted with that, because I‘m losing weight again. So for me personally a too strict fasting regiment seems to not to work. Dr Mindy Pelz also recommends to mix the fasting approaches regularly (IMF, ADF, 48+ etc)...
@@stephanijeopdevelt5600 sometimes the body needs to be told ; break the adaptivity...your example just shows that...regularity is great for mind aswell..
@@suriyaperumal9047 yes, but most of the times I eat in 12noon then next I eat at 1 am due to my work timings..so i have 12hours gap of having no food but only water.
For weight loss, mixing it up is key. I don't want my BMR slowing down, therefore I mix up when and how much I eat. My ancestors never knew when their next meal was coming so they ate food when it was available.
This makes perfect sense to me. I’m losing weight and water fasting 3-5 days but then never know which way to go in between. OMAD the same time of day sounds right for me. It’s like yoga, an accumulated experience over time could get me there. I hadn’t thought about what TIME I eat means much ☝🏼 too. I was worried about doing Keto because I’ve had a lot of cancer and know plant based is ultimately how I’ll stay and heal for longevity . I’m going to try this now. And I’ll eat my beans, my organic brown rice, my veggies, juices and buckets of water water water. Again, thank you. Head bow 🙇♀️
Not too much water. You can run into trouble by developing Hyponatraemia (see WATERLOGGED- Prof. Tim Noakes) or Diabetes Insipidus (frequent urination - day and night - discussed by Dr. Eric Berg.) For treating cancer look into MD Nicholas Gonzales' work: Watch "Dr Nicholas Gonzalez - Enzymes and Cancer" on TH-cam th-cam.com/video/fVc8xwr_wfc/w-d-xo.html He used more than 10 different diets in combination with individualised supplementation and various detoxing methods - including digestive enzymes between meals.
Like the points made in here. One observation - for many people jumping to 20 hours is not realistic. Just getting to 12 hours is a brilliant start for many and every 15 minute decrease in the eating window beyond that is a great step forward. Nobody should be put off by what initially sounds impossible.
Good idea. I’m doing 16:8 and don’t feel “true” hunger until just before I break the fast. I have often thought, I should live with that hunger a while longer. So I’ll move up to 18:6. We’ll see!
I love how you referenced Dave Ramsey. I live by his financial advise haha. Cool video but I have seen myself break past plateaus by changing around my eating window or even just doing a 36 hour fast and then going back to a 16/8 type of eating window. I’ve lost all weight I will probably loose at this point. But still implement intermittent fasting for its other benefits.
I have been doing the 16 and 8 and usually going into 18 plus hours every day when I eat its juice of carrot celery and cucumber with a apple staying as close to raw as possible. Saving lots of money through this starvation fasting process if I keep this up I should be able to retire in 25 years with no problems And lots of extra money from saving from just frivolous spending I'm glad I found this new life style.
I think I might do that, since I prefer eating in the evenings anyway, plus it's a pain in the butt preparing a high protein or keto meal to take to work the next day.
I struggle with this kind of consistency due to being a shiftworker, working twelve hour shifts day time for a couple or a few days, then twelve hour night shifts. Plus commutes. But it's all good food for thought and personal experiments. The best results I've had are when I do IF/OMAD.
Everybody is so different. I've always had a natural 4:30- 5 wake up time. I eat by 6 and then have my main meal before noon. That's the only way I can sleep at night. It's funny what you can learn about yourself if you follow your instincts. I learned what is right for me during covid. It's so much better to adjust your life around your body rather than trying to force it the other way round.
I usually do the metabolic Monday, then Tuesday through Friday mix up my fasts from 16/8, 18/6 and OMAD with a 4 hr window. Then on weekends I like to share with the kids so usually don't restrict myself to a window. I'm I doing too much mixing up the windows? Btw, loved your interview with Tom Bilyeu. Weight training definately raises my confidence which then affects my approach on things through the rest of the day.
@@popcornto6032 the reason I do it that way is because I try to listen to my body when fasting. The minimum is usually 16 hrs, however, some days I reach 16 hrs and feel great so I continue fasting. My question was more directed towards how the constant variability or lack of consistency may be affecting my circadian rhythm.
I wish you can do a video on what your wife's meals or meal looks like when she breaks her fast. I never know what exactly to eat to get the most nutrients and macros.
You can try a bone broth to break your fast and one hour after eat normally. The longer the fast the more you should introduce food slowly and in smaller accounts. In any case better to avoid carbs specially when you break a fast

@@bighands69 the same with my family. My grandfather at 73 is 140lb at 5'9 and it's still strong and capable.
Get rid of snacks first, just three meals, then two, then one. Gradually switch to low carb or keto in the process. Give it a month to transition.

We are already fasting during sleep so it is easy to keep it going when we wake.
["3/18/21, Its our innerstanding coffee, tea, broths of course water are Ok during fasting times. Even taking supplements (not synthetic supplements) ok, too."]
Breakfast -> Break Fast! Mind blown
Sparkling water (unflavored) and eating some salt helps me do multi-day fasts.
I think so too, I mean bodies do adapt then you stop burning fat
Makes sense. We ate when we killed, so that must have been more or less random.
I kinda agree with you but I found that when I do OMAD most of the time I achieve better but when I hit a plateau I go 18/6 till I go back to losing fat and go back to OMAD
So yes I think it works according to the person
Kailani Talton Agreed!

As a personal trainer of almost a decade, I LOVE videos like this that give great Intel with solid/science-backed support. I especially like how clear and concise this video is. I've had MULTIPLE clients losing ridiculous weight this year just by talking them through a personalized IF schedule with additional tips/guidance. Thanks so much for all you do for us who look forward to continuing to learn in order to better serve the needs of our clients. 💯🙌🏾
intel ? this is not call of duty kid
I started OMAD last week and have dropped weight and started feeling really good. And once you get past the mental cravings, which really are just habits for me, I feel really good.
Such good advice Mike. I tried to introduce my overweight sister to trf but she chose to only do it 2 days a week. After 2weeks of doing trf for 2 out of 7 days she found she had not lost any weight. The problem is in her mind.....she likes her usual lifestyle so much that she was only prepared to change it for 2 days a week.
Slow and steady wins the race
There is also the issue of how stress affects ones adrenals, blood sugar and belly fat to consider.
Can you elaborate what you mean by this? Does IF adversely affect adrenals?
@@user-60267 from what I’ve been learning, yes. Stress affects our nervous system so that learning how to self care is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Many people that I know who had tried IF, can’t continue to do it because they don’t customize for themselves. I am still tinkering and trying to learn more about healthy life style like by watching your videos. Thank you!!!
16/8 intermittent fasting daily with one 24hr water fast weekly works great for me!
Good to see the people taking there health into there own hands and staying clear of Government corrupt guidelines . Great content keep up the good work 👍 .
This validates what I’ve been trying for my sugar regulation/ insulin resistance, weight loss, and years of living an unhealthy life. Thank you for your information and the clarity it brings!🙏🏻
Stacey Kersting she says how she built up in her message
@Creeping Death I can't answer for Susan or anyone else, but I've done some 72 and 96 hour fasts. Only a couple of times have I had trouble sleeping, and I can't really find a pattern as to what might have been different those times. I think this, as a lot of things about fasting, varies a great deal from person to person. If I had trouble sleeping every time I wouldn't do it. A good sleep should always come first, as far as I'm concerned.
@@empebee 4 days seem to be too much
@@empebee losing sleep is a side affect of fasting.
I am keeping daily trace of my condition and lifestyle that is unfortunately more focalised on T2D and Lyme than on keto
Weight loss is no longer a goal, but rather building muscle. I try not to exceed 25 g of isolate whey in my 50-75 g protein intake (1m70, 64kg)
I have tried reintroducing carbs, perhaps too hastily, that seem to bring a relapse of neuromuscular pains.
I am not too keen on meat but use nuts, eggs, fish,

He's got a point... I fast from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. and I feel great!
So that’s 16 hrs have you gone any longer?
That’s the window I use. Sometimes I stretch it from 7pm to 12pm
I go from 1:30 wish to 7. I push back breakfast so far back in my mind until it's lunchtime. I tell myself oatmeal at 11 then 11:30 then 12 then 12 30 then 1 then next thing you know it's 1 :30 time for lunch! Of course by that time it's not oatmeal😋
So I am going to start intermittent fasting tomorrow.
At 72 I've been a lifelong athlete eating fairly frequent but healthy meals throughout the day based on what my Hunger level is.
I eat zero desserts except special occasions and definitely restricting starches normally.
I like the fact that you talked about finding what works for you as far as time restriction. I'm still very active and I'm thinking that maybe 8 hours on and 16 hours off will work at least to start with. I am hoping that I can just do I have a couple days a week going forward once I lose my 8 to 12 lb.
I appreciate your input and will continue to watch your posts to get more encouragement and information

Jason Fung MD says just the opposite. He says to switch up your fasting routine so your body does not adjust to just one way of eating, and therefore will make your body stronger and more sensitive to burn fat. I'm wondering where you are getting your information? Everyone says different things. It gets very confusing.
H.A. S. I agree
But does that even make difference? Is you goal to have 0% fat
@@635574 No, it’s not, of course. Fasting times affect many conditions and it’s important to know the best method for your specific issue. Doing the same thing over and over could either harm your system or your body could adapt and it would lose its effect.

Aarron Brunner shut up
I eat when I'm hungry, which usually ends up about 18:00 earliest, and about 21:00 commonly. edit: one meal most of the time. Sometimes eating for an entire four hours.
And you got results?? 4hrs eating constantly??
@@beatricerweyemamu5540 Define "results"? I'll clarify: Almost always, I eat one meal. I don't plan to - that's just how it goes. _Sometimes_ I eat a few different things over the course of a few hours. I don't mean sitting and eating for four hours straight, haha, more like additional meals: eats my common meal: grilled meat. Not enough? Eats, say, some eggs (raw of fried). Not enough? Then eats perhaps some Sardines. Still hungry? Then eats some raw liver. Or more meat -- or whatever. But that's like a _handful days_ in a month - probably because I was more active then usual or something, or the meat was leaner than expected. Most days my energy requirements are pretty predictable, and the one meal is sized enough. So, again: I just eat until I'm not hungry. And well, I've been eating only animal parts & eggs for the last two years fyi - "just eating until your full" might not work naturally for someone eating sugar and such refined stuff.
Thank you Campbell..Iam greatful that you noticed the confusion I had, 4consecutive hours it was mind blowing...but I recognise too that you are a man and we are different...
When I spoke of results what I meant of course is the subject, meaning that " and you still managed to down size, bring your weight down "
But also depends on what you're working on, the goals..
All the best Oscar and thank you for taking your time, highly appreciated...
We are learning and every lead helps... Thank you all once again, highly encouraging..
Just embarked on this journey too, my pilot project is over and it was successful.. Or parameters have been tested ..
I have set my self a goal, I call it project Nov Vs Nov - it means I started November 2020 I would like to see what I would have achieved by November 2021 just working with one meal in 24hours with a weighted walking exercise (rucking) at least 3-4times a week..
And see what I get by then...!!
Wish me well, I will need it.
And thank you once again for your support on this.
@@beatricerweyemamu5540 Ah, ok. Yes, I've never been overweight, we all have our own issues though. I eat according to these patterns naturally because I find I have the most clarity and focus - important in my job as a systems integrator and developer.
That said, I think it's a great bet for those with weight problems too. Also: cutting out refined products and reducing omega 6 intake.
As for my animal-foods-eating - that too is for clarity, but I was also relieved of chronic pains I've had for 20 years, and a host of other benefits I wasn't expecting. But I wouldn't recommend it for someone that doesn't have too, it's not much of a culinary experience in the long run.

I am 49 female 160cm tall going through menopause and am now 54-55 kgs. It’s works so well for maintaining my weight! Thank you for you video 😃
So, been on keto for a year but IF and the feeding hours confused me. But you simplified it. Now, I know 20+ IF is the way for me.
Started doing OMAD 4 weeks ago at 225lbs, I'm now at 209 and I really like doing OMAD. It's really easy for me, thank God, my father taught me to use mine over matters as he used to say, when I was a kid. I drink water and plain black tea during the day and have a good healthy dinner and sometimes even a beer or desert. I haven't increased my exercise activity at all; but I do hard labor outdoors for a living; so I'm really loving the simplicity of OMAD.
@@Burkhimself what about unflavored powder electrolytes?
José Francisco I heard that water only was truly what keeps the fast.....I’m not an expert, but have heard discussions from people who are. Just saying what I have heard.
@@Burkhimself oh well, thanks anyway. It's just that water alone is bad because we also need electrolytes, so some say we should add salt to it, but no one mentions electrolyte powder
@@josefrancisco4178
Yes, agree; the water only fasting - without adding salt - seems taxing to the kidneys; flushing away minerals can also be dangerous.
People are rude! Don’t like his context or how he delivers it...move on and don’t leave crappy comments!!! Love this and learning more from watching your videos and hoping to gain enough wisdom to figure this out very soon. Thank you
Nope, doesn't work for me! Will work for a few weeks, then have to switch it up...the body needs to be 'fooled' or it gets lazy.
I do keto. My husband doesn’t do keto. He has Type 2D and Gout. We dry fast for 2 alternate days every week. Thats a 12 hour fast. It has improved his uric acid and insulin level immensely. Love your videos.
Sorry about your husband. Does he consume alcohol.

I’m a believer in fasting. This information is the exact opposite of Thomas DeLaur tho. Thomas states we need to ‘mix it up’ to avoid our bodies from becoming adaptive.

Will try 20/4 VERY soon. Probably in 2 weeks time
That’s opposite to the advice others have given. Some people hit plateaus and need to mix it up and change things around.

Greatest info out there. 20 hours intermittent fasting everyday works. 감사합니다.
Mike your face is looking younger and younger my friend. Amazing.
I tried 20/4 and felt like I was gonna die and was extremely moody. 18/6 works well for me.
How long did you try it for?
Just eat some butter, you need lots of fat to fast
@@tyrannicalbigtech5842 great nutritional advice lmao
Just explain please as I'm not familiar with the terms hours etc. Thanks
Hey cool, you match plant cycles. 🙃
Thank you

DEUCES
Too consistent and you run into adaptive compensation. Mix it up.
Exactly. I’ve experienced this firsthand. Always skipping breakfast means your metabolism eventually doesn’t get active until noon. It’s adjusting itself. That the “hibernation” mode you don’t want your body to be in
Jaymz X Isn’t that the point of eating consistently?
You just made that up, dont worry its not true
thank you for actually mentioning glycerol breaking down into glucose.
I literally haven't heard one fasting expert say that yet.

@@PaulPaul-si8tu u followed 16:8 ? Or 18:6?
@@suriyaperumal9047 yes, but most of the times I eat in 12noon then next I eat at 1 am due to my work timings..so i have 12hours gap of having no food but only water.
I do 12-4 and it's really easy. No breakfast, first meal at 12, second at 4pm. Works well for me.
For weight loss, mixing it up is key. I don't want my BMR slowing down, therefore I mix up when and how much I eat.
My ancestors never knew when their next meal was coming so they ate food when it was available.
I read that the best eating window is in the morning, faster metabolism
Eric Berg.)
For treating cancer look into MD Nicholas Gonzales' work:

He used more than 10 different diets in combination with individualised supplementation and various detoxing methods - including digestive enzymes between meals.
Like the points made in here. One observation - for many people jumping to 20 hours is not realistic. Just getting to 12 hours is a brilliant start for many and every 15 minute decrease in the eating window beyond that is a great step forward. Nobody should be put off by what initially sounds impossible.
Great point. Perfect is enemy of good
I lost 20 pounds in about 2 months. First meal is at about between 9 and 10am. Last meal is about between 3 and 4pm. I exercise everyday as well.
What do you eat
Great video. I'm on a weakly 36 hr fast today. I love it.
Me too but I am not loving it today. I find it easier if I had a really good night sleep the night before and my sleep was off last night.
No Spring Chicken if I over sleep I feel horrible. Anything more than 5 hrs is way too much for me.

When you get to a state of hunger
Keep going milk it.....the health benefits are gracious...
Facts. Hunger forces your body to react. And nature knows what to do...
My fast begins 6pm and ends at 12noon... I eat 2 meals a day 12pm and 5pm...
Same here, we are twins
Good job! I think you addressed that nicely. Don’t mind haters- you are doing great and I think you have finally found your TH-cam stride.
Its so simple. eat meat and veggies in one big meal after work... love life...
I think I might do that, since I prefer eating in the evenings anyway, plus it's a pain in the butt preparing a high protein or keto meal to take to work the next day.
This sounds like a great idea, except for most of my days when I work evenings and get out late
Juan mejia -- I'm new to this. What is "metabolic Monday"?
@@deboraht5079 metabolic monday is a Facebook group Mike Mutzel started where members participate on a weekly Monday 24 hr fast.
@@juanmejia9697 I think it's good to mix it up.
Hi , you can check Thomas De Laure videos.he has good information about.
Go to Dr. Berg! We think he is the best with giving us all of the information we need on low carb/keto and IF! He gives us everything we need and did all the work for us! I am doing plant based, low carb, and 20:4 fasting. ☺️
I’ve gone as long as 4 days with nothing, no problem.
Try 18/6..for five day today..lost 3 kg...it impressive...try it..it worth..I will switch to omad 23/1.on Saturday...wish me luck
When fasting when is the best time to hit the gym. I generally fast 23/1 with the one meal at 1pm. I go to the gym at 6am when it opens. Thank you in advance.
I would like to know this as well
Currently 52 hours into water fasting:) a new record! I like omad as well.. Very nice!
Curious- how did you feel at the 48 hr mark?
