Sadly, they're not getting paid enough not to also enjoy what they do. Orchestra musicians are NOT paid well, which is a travesty. All that work, passion, and dedication should be better rewarded.
This cello concerto by Camille Saint-Saens is stupendous, and it's played perfectly by all here, not only the cellist Bruno Philipe is fantastic, but also the orchestra is superb.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Proverbs 4:20 💙✨ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 💙✨
As Charles Gounod famously remarked at the premiere of CARMEN, written by his student Georges Bizet, “Take away the little Spanish melodies, and what Monsieur Bizet stole from me, and there is nothing left!” 😀
This is magic. Was playing this concerto on repeat last year when I was writing my book and now, when I open the book, I hear this music. Life-changing experience. This piece is unearthly beautiful!
The way he plays is very intensely, it's almost INSANE to think that that deep feeling and drama is coming form a cello (and the band). They create such a wonderful story with their instruments and collaboration.
Saint Saëns, Dvorak and Shostakovich number 1 are among my favorite cello concertos. I have heard dozens of versions of the Saint Saëns concerto by the greatest cellists of the last century and this century and I can assure you that this is the most elegant version ever made. This cellist is absolutely amazing! His sound is so warm and clear that it hits your soul. When I listen to performances like this, I can have faith that all is not lost. Bravo master!
I genuinely don't know why this kept appearing in my recommendations, iit's not like I looked for similar concerts, but for some reason the algorithm thought that if it kep poping up, I would somehow surrender and watch it. And I did. Oh boy, I don't regret it.
My mum works in the Hr-Symphonica and i'f been in their studio quiet often. The "Sendesaal" was build for recording music and the tech is superb. Movie scores are being recorded, pieces archived for all of the world to hear :) It better be good :P
Why isn't this piece played more often? I had never heard it before and I cannot think why because it is wonderful! Cohesive, with that lovely middle movement and the recurring themes which bind it together. The orchestra never overwhelms the soloist and the cello part is beautifully written and stunningly played here. His intonation is miraculous and his lyricism but also his clarity in the difficult sections. I'm wondering if I've ever heard a cello play . . was it a high G? I shall be listening to more performances of this piece. It's always interesting to compare. Is that snippet of "The swan" that occurs several times deliberate do you think?
It's hard to imagine this piece being not played often enough. It's one of the most popular and most frequently performed cello concerti. That said, it's not as difficult as the others. Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Haydn D Major, Schumann, are much more difficult. I imagine cellists prefer the challenges of those to zipping through this. I suspect it's more popular with audiences than it is with cellists of this caliber.
It was a high A, a harmonic if I’m not mistaken. I don’t play the cello but I can identify the pitch.. (I’m guessing it was a harmonic tho cuz it seemed like he wasn’t pressing down?)
@@jimp4170 Theatrics don't always trump being able to play melody and this concerto is that recurring melodic theme - can the cellist make you feel through it? That's the beauty of this piece, that haunting melody.

On TH-cam I especially like the one with Pierre Fournier - the video is from the late 1960s and is in bw.
Sometimes I think this is better. Let the soloist really rise above the orchestra while still allowing the instrument to speak naturally. As the great anner bylsma said, sometimes there is too much bellowing(paraphrasing). Too much effort put into simply being heard over the orchestra.
