      Be careful dude, I am the owner of Tohatsu MFS 20 since 6 days only and after making some research, I compared the availabilities of OEM parts and I see that Suzuki has more offers online and price is generally less than Tohatsu.
      Biggest difference:
      Impossible to get a Tohatsu software diagnostic if you are not the friend of Tohatsu dealer.
      Suzuki cable and diagnostic software is easy to get everywhere. I made long research about everything but it's was when I purchased that I realized that I didn't thought about this two things.
      Good luck for the rest.

    Just ran mine for the first time this weekend. I use it as a kicker motor for a bigger boat. It started right up and ran flawlessly, and I'm very happy with it. I got the LS/ES/power tilt model. This guy's review is very accurate save for not much detail about flushing. There is an excellent video here on TH-cam (CommonSenseSolutions) which covers suggested methods of flushing the motor. Enjoy!

    Have this 20 efi on a 13’ inflatable boat. The response of this engine is incredible. It delivers an actual hole shot with zero hesitation. Fuel economy is not spoken enough about as it sips gas and you go a very long way on a 3 gallon tank. As this guys states; break-in is important. Highly recommend these engines.

    I have the short shaft version. It's been a good motor. I didn't know exactly how the tilt lock operates, so was glad to hear Andy explain that. I bought mine for an inflatable that we carry along in our Sprinter van. I'd like to buy a jon boat like yours to keep at our dock & share the Tohatsu between them. I'll have to make sure that its transom works with the short shaft.

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good idea. A jon boat is harder to store but more efficient when you want to run out on the water. A short shaft should fit if you match the transom to the shaft.

    This is a really good motor. Mine fell off my boat and sat on the bottom of the Oklawaha river for 3 weeks before I could recover it. I brought it home, flushed oil and gas and it fired right up. Also, still has perfect compression and doesn't burn any oil. That being said, do not be afraid to hose the entire motor off with the cowling off if you run in the salt.

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fishingistherapy I let it run in a bucket for at least 10 minutes and spray off the entire thing inside and out. Then spray entire engine with silicone spray. But I usually run in fresh to brackish water and just do a hose flush while running.

    I want to buy my first outboard, the same Tohatsu model as yours, for using in my camper trips.
    I will create a box between my chassis bars to store it perpendicular on the driving direction.
    Do you think it is wise to do that? Would the lateral movements of the car affect anything?
    Also, what side should I lean on during transport? Left or right?
    And what angle shoud it be up from the engine head so I don't get oil leaks?
    Is the tiller easy detachable? I might need to do it every time because of limited space in the transport box.
    Thanks!

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great questions. The lateral movement should bit affect anything. The most important part is that you need to lay the motor down on the Tiller side. You will notice a sticker just under the lip for the hood on the opposite of the tiller side that says "this side up". It should always be layed flat on the tiller side. I am not experienced with tilting it at any other angle, I just have followed the instructions they provided and haven't had an issue. The tiller handle, I have not taken off, but im sure it couldn't be difficult as this outboard is user friendly and parts are easy to replace. Hopefully this helps.

    MY COLD PULL START IS VERY DIFFCULT!
    I bought the same motor new in 2019 but without electric start.
    I love the motor, except it is incredibly difficult to pull start a cold motor. Ive primed it, set to neutral, installed kill switch and set throttle to start position...it just doesn't want to start. Eventually, it will start. Once it warms up it will start in 1 or 2 pulls.
    The primer ball feels hard and full.
    I just cant figure it out.
    It is Fuel Injected so there is no Carb.

    • @fishingistherapy

      In reverse, with the lever on release, the motor will kick up due to the directional force. It's fine for slow movement, but if you give it gas it will kick up on you.
      The release is mainly for running forward in case you hit something and it will kick up over the object.

    Man this is a great info video. Too bad the generation of mechanics like this old fellow are a dying bread. Too many people now that just know the computer aspect and not the actual motor anymore.
    We'll be picking up a 20hp Tohatsu today that is a 2020 model, pull start only. Really looking forward to running it on my 1648 Smokercraft.

    Owners of this motor stated that it does not start from first p u l l? It takes at least few pools in order to start the EFI. Is that the case with yours how many pulls does it take it to fire it?

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once when it was about 35 degrees out it took a couole pulls but when its warm out and the fuel pump is primed it takes 1 on average maybe 2. I honestly dont use it as much because it starts with electric on first spark right away. There hasnt been anything troublesome with starting this motor under normal conditions.

    What difference in Tohatsu 20 HP MFS20EEFS VS MFS20EEFTS 5000RPM VS 5400 RPM? ls that because of little better trust and little more gas consumption, how it significant with performance? Is it worth to pay extra for that difference. Thanks

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EEFS is not power tilt and the EEF(T)S, the T stands for trim or electric trim to be exact. They are both short shaft models. I have the long 20in shaft for my boat because of my 20 inch transom. The more RPMs the more power output but the 400 rpm difference is not really noticeable when I run mine. It's all comes to personal preference. The gas on all models are so efficient I can't tell a difference if I'm at 5000 or 5400. Hope that helps.
