    Game changer, Chris. If there was weakest link b4 it was the lift. Def step in right direction. Your willingness to get input from users puts you into a class of your own. Just another reason to buy a WR: 1 made is USA 2 Independent small biz owner 3 Well made 4 Stand behind your product 5 Understands the value of your customers input. I will be a new customer very soon. Ps like that the base can go beyond level if the ground is not level

    Chris i see a new hazzard in design. At 6:46 in the video you talk about tightening the angle, if you do so, the table at full extend, all the way up (8:09) will fold up on it's own easier creating a pinch point for a hand or arm when reaching and moving that last piece that won't roll on it's own due to knots etc.

    Love it, I like the idea of using it as a work table. With that in mind I would to see it about 12 to 15 inches wider. I made a staging table out of square tubing and 2” wide metal strips and it is a game changer having the extra space for the logs on my old splitter. When the time comes for an up grade on a new splitter which is coming soon that maybe what would push your machine over the top! Great machines regardless.

    I think the fact that you show the new design and ask for comments from the guys who use the machines everyday puts you at the top of the manufacturing business. When I bought my first firewood processor 15 years ago I talked with the manufacturer about a couple of improvements I made to it with the company owner. He couldn't care less but changed those things on machines in the future. I just bought a new processor this year but different brand.

    First time I watch one of your video and I really like how you explain the whys of your design. I just learned to weld 3 years ago and really enjoy fabricating little gadgets to help on the woodlot. Very neat design you got there. Since you actually asked ''So what you guys think''....... You have the stiffeners jotting out of the lift to help prevent logs from sliding and falling onto the engine. Wouldn't it be better to have the edge of the platform bent up (king of a 2'' fence) on the side of the engine so logs don't fall off? This would be a simple design. I also think I would prefer to have a smooth surface to the lift to make it easier to slide logs. I've just subscribed and am looking forward at watching your videos. Cheers from Quebec, Canada

    Chris ,
    i love the hinge design for the safety and I would think go with something like the design that you have in the sorting table with the wolf ridge logo ,
    as far as standing on the base plate, instead of the three teeth plates make it 4 or 5 plates to place them closer together for a non slip deck plate.
    i would love to have that feature on the compact commercial that you are sending to me in june,
    keep safe.

  • @edjackson8425
    @edjackson8425 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you punch the holes or slots rather than laser cut them you could extrude the edges of the holes up to add additional grip. As you say it would be better for working in slippery conditions such as snow.

    The only problem I see is that there is no limit of travel for the lift to flip up so if you get a log that rocks the splitter side to side and that lift plate drops down while picking up the log it could potentially injure any body parts between the horizontal and vertical pieces of that log lift. Good idea overall.

    Overall I think big improvement over the mesh. Not sure you need a pivot avoid foot pinch. The fill-up up position seems too high, don't need such a large angle to roll logs into splitting position. I think having a pivot will probably "flop down" in the full-up position. Maybe a slot that still allows some pivot to avoid foot pinch and still prevent "flopping" or simply "lock" into open position. The folding is great for storage and transport.

    I have yet to see a design out of your shop I don't like!
    Maybe add a couple of teeth to the lower holes for traction, and perhaps a small backstop for its table use?
    Thoughts on a date this might be introduced to new production machines? I'm prepared to order a new splitter but I would definitely like to have this latest addition on it from day 1.
    As always great job!! 👏 👏

    Reinforce your lowest weld joint by changing it from a butt joint to a lap joint. Add a gusset plate or widen the space between flags on one of the plates so the flanges bypass as you form the main plates. Enjoy your work!

    Chris, this is a huge improvement in my opinion. Excellent engineering, and I especially like the fact the bottom folds out of the way. That is a major benefit based on where mine will be parked. My 35C is scheduled to be shipped on 3/17, and I would REALLY prefer to have this new style log lift, even if it delays shipping until it can be added. I will be glad to wait, and be happy to provide you a video review of it in use.

    I like the way it looks, is there a way to press a nonslip tree into the bottom plate, where you were worried about slipping, instead of taking time to cut holes, place it into a press, and press out a slot like you would fine on a piece of 1/2 inch expanded metal .

    Now that is professional looking fab work. I would'nt even put the holes in the bottom section, I'd cut a few of those teeth strips out of the sheet, weld them on and be done, holes just make it weaker the more you put in. Not like you need to save weight, it's a log splitter, beef that thing up to the max. Nice job, glad you finally axed that expanded metal and put the CNC to work.

  • @kevinz763
    @kevinz763 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Think it looks good but the teeth up at the beam need to be lower than the beam because if you have a big round could catch the teeth then bend log lift when pushing ram.....to be honest I prefer the lift table to have a smooth sheet of steel so you can slide blocks of wood around

  • @DanKlein_1

    I think you are right on moving the bolt on bottom up a bit so if you are on uneven ground or have debris under that hinge, the end of that plate where you roll your log onto will still be flat on the ground. I like how you think about the gusset and bracing things up to last. Also like that you think about production time and cutting cost without cutting durability. Time savers are huge. remember my dad asking someone why they got the expensive fast lift, man lift. The guy had it figured out how much time he saved getting a man up to his work rather than waiting twice as long for a slow man-lift and a guy in a basket doing nothing but going for a slow ride.

    I like the new design. That bottom section angle is good were it is because if you make it more sharp it will change the angle when you fold it up as a work table. Maybe add one rib of teeth on the lower section in the middle that is double sided so when its folded it will have teeth in table mode. Just my 2 cents. Your right there is always room for changes. Great video by the way!

    Chris I like this design much more than oem but I still think you can do much more and it’s not related to the lift itself as I said before...it’s the hydraulic circuit. Install a valve with 4way 3 position with float for log lift. GAMECHANGER!! Or do what I did with a FEL valve which controls two functions, lift and wedge. Works awesome. I have the benefit of power down and/or float down on lift circuit. Get that fancy new valve company to fab you something up. You would have the best hydraulics on the market. I’m about ready to throw up every time I hear one of these commercial splitters with lifts struggle just trying to lower an empty log table with which gravity is helping!!🤢😡 it ain’t right!! Take them POS restrictors and throw them out in the woods! Anyway sorry for going rabid, great vid👍

    I like it, and agree with moving those wider. On the bottom, where one would stand, not sure what they are called but "Sure-Step" makes a nice step for Fish Houses, which you could mimic that style of gripper on the bottom possibly. Something with the Wolfe Ridge Logo would be cool add on :) Good work, look forward to ordering a splitter sometime soon here. :D
