Definitely perfect size fireplace wood! Itching to get our Lil' Red back so I can start busting some blocks soon. Wolfe Ridge is definitely ahead of the game, love it!
Great to see cutting edge demonstrations like this. Hopefully it's a big success for the company. Although I prefer the way my Powersplit handles thinner cuts better than anything, for production sake this might be a little faster. As far as the skidsteer splitter goes, it's not my cup of tea. Thanks for posting another great video.
Wow it makes we wan to buy a splitter. Looks like a good design. Our wood locally is on the smaller side 18 is the bigger stuff. Thanks for showing how it works!
Seems like any multi wedge splitter makes waste. I get what he is going in regards to the box wedge but to me it looks like you need a 30+ ton splitter for this wedge. The box wedge will perform with less tonage.
That would be great if all the rounds we're that perfect size. The only advantage I see in a multi wedge like that is the additional kindling that is made. Not too bad for high production to load directly into a dumptruck to be dumped onto a driveway. But, to each their own, whatever works for you, and your budget.
You should put a hat from each tractor manufacturer that you are considering in front of you on a table and put the one you choose on your head ala the high school football players signing day stunts. Excellent video...see you this evening.
Great idea but I have learned by trying to make one for myself that they need to be made out of high carbon steel like AR400 or AR500 or it will just bend. I have a Timberwolf TW-5 with the 6-way splitter and it works amazing.
Man that would be awesome on my splitter I don’t think my splitter frame could handle it though. Looks like it is working pretty good maybe some fine adjustments. See you on tonight’s live stream brother.
I like it looks like the top off shoots need to be a little longer but like it takes a big log down to manageable size . I know I split some big rounds with the 4 way and the 2 big splits can be hard to handle at times
We have had rain just about every day or two for the last two weeks. I have nothing but mud to work in so as soon as it dries on top I’ll be stacking mine as well. May be ok by this afternoon, rain stopped yesterday morning. I too have to work hard to hit that 12” to 15” window. I don’t even have them blocked yet. Yep... I’m right on schedule. Lol Good video man.
Yeah that size window was tough for me as well....I either had to go way bigger - in which I'd have less rounds to split, or go slightly under on a few...I went with the somewhat smaller size and more rounds. I think a 10" average should be good. Good luck with the drying out and gathering up my friend.
Back 40 Firewood Hahahaha. I put this comment in the WRONG video. Lol. That’s what happens when ya watch one then go do something else then go back and make a comment. Sorry. Lol. See ya later man.
I don't remember... I apologize if I commented already or not but, I like the design of the wedge except that I think the two uprights should be a fair bit longer to help complete the split
I know how to bend or snap that skid steer splitter cuz I have done it. In fact I may have the dry piece of ash that did it still laying around. I like the wicked design better than the 18 way (that sounded like something was going to explode when wood was pushed through). I wonder if a box wedge produces less scrap even though it requires multi-pass? Coming from a two-way only splitter (hydraulic and manual) guy, that looked like the potential for a lot of scrap in with the firewood.
Great intro Jimmy Snuka!! Like the idea of 12 way wedge, but way to much random sizes when splitting for cord wood. My customers like the consistency of nice pieces of wood. Not for everyone. Awesome splitters Wolfe Ridge manufactures!! Keep the videos coming
@@termitedave5356 oh man it's good to meet someone with a Powersplit. I have a video on my channel using it briefly. Do you have the towable, or conveyor unit. We love ours
tom bryan I have the single vertical with conveyor. This machine is worth the investment!! No kindling or scraps just solid pieces every time!!! No pulling the pieces back to resplit just a slight twist of the round. I just seen your videos awesome a female working that wood!!!!!!! That’s how easy, no struggle with the rounds. Tom you mite want to put some grease on your square uprite that your wedge travels on.
I have a custom slip-on 6 way for my TW-P1 but you really have to have straight grained rounds or it gets stuck. It has limitations. I like this design but 20 tons won’t cut it, barely works on 6 way. Are you guys pushing it with the 28 ton model or 35?
Great name, "The Wicked Wedge!" Looks like does what it's intended to do. Would it be a special order item or does Chris think he can mass produce them? I don't know what the market is like for those types of wedges. Although if you are spending good $$$ on a splitter, then you need to keep trying new ways to make the work more efficient. Great video. See you tonight in the chat room.
Tinker Toys I call them....but I mean that in a positive way as they would make the work that much for fun, like TINKER TOYS. As you sai creative and innovative. Yah...I subscribed.
Thats a MAD MAX style wood wedge LOL! That thing is wild! Plus you got your wood split for free LOL cool video! Im not engineer but it looks to be like the top side wedges are angled very high up in the air which seems like its causing a lot of drag! The top part of the round was almost vertical coming out the wedge, I wonder if they were more parallel to the deck they would split easier?
Looks like a good wedge but they should have shown removing the sticks from the centre enclosed wedges. There are times the last split may remain in the machine until it’s used again.
It will split faster if u throttle the machine up. Im in the market for a splitter. So thanks gun look up wolf ridge. Did they make the tow behind also. ??
@@WolfeRidgeSplitters that was quite impressive, I saw that video. I wish you and your company the very best. Have you ever thought about making a splitter that's similar to a Powersplit design?
Much respect to you and your operation. I’m just getting started. Wondering though, why sacrifice profit by using the expensive red bags for bundles on your roadside stand ?? And those bags make it easier for idiots to steal, no ??
Dam bad buster but if you are burning wood in a furnace an are big enough to put big pieces in it will last longer.I put half on top an they last five or six hours.I call the big all nighter that what I call them ALL NIGHTER at least 40 pounders if you can handle them. But sell most of the little shit keeps them calling for more
I like to toss some bigger rounds on the fireplace for a long burn... My Honey on the other hand, she likes to have the smaller stuff because she enjoys the crackling and bigger flames... More work for me! If I was selling it, I might be okay with smaller chunks. Burns Faster / More Sales? Be Blessed!
Hope you got a good warranty on the splitter. Agree that it goes too far and creates pieces that are too small. Good concept, but there's probably a reason the manufacturer doesn't offer anything quite that aggressive.
Yeah think it would depend a lot on the size of the rounds being pushed thru...sometimes a few smaller splits aren't that bad. Chris will probably dial in the design a bit more. The manufacturer of the wedge is the same as the splitter - Chris Wolfe of Wolfe Ridge MFG. 👍
That's how we do it. If conditions are right, we buck it and leave it in place. Dad comes along with the bobcat and splits them into the trailer or truck bed. We feed two boilers, so it makes short work of that! Be Blessed!
Yeah, why would you want a box wedge that has to cycle 4 times when you have have a single multi-way wedge that takes 3 times as long to cycle and makes wildly uneven splits!? These big multi-way wedges just seem so crazy when the box wedges make uniform sizes with less labor. This isn't a dig on Back 40 to be clear.
I think this is getting to be a little bit over done. I like my wood to be split with smooth edges , not sheared into tiny pieces. Maybe a good simple 4 way wedge is all that is needed. a little bit more time to split it, but the end product is way better, and much less stress on the machine... Just my opinion.
Dude.....good luck with ur channel......ur gonna need it. Firewood is cool.....but not that cool. Anyway......take a tip from the Germans: talk less.....cut more. You ramble way too much.
What a terrible splitter. It tips it more than splits it. Awful short pieces also! Still have to split the top pieces also not one pass on the other hand the catapiller splitter looks awesome longer wood can be used no lifting and clean splits

Sometimes I use a short handled single bit axe and a wooden mallet to split smaller. The wood mallet doesn't damage the axe head.

Needs fins to keep outside pieces from kicking out sideways. Defeats the purpose when they don’t split all the way.

SHIFTY, you’re back. KIOTI I hope !
The small wing tips will eventually bend. Mine did and there quite bigger and thicker.
Any time you add wedges 4,6,8 and so on your gonna create more fines. But time is money.
Jim Richards that is a lot of added resistance on that machine. Seams like it would wear out the seals and many other components prematurely.
Do you think your splitter will handle that big wedge his cylinder looks huge on that splitter
You should try some nasty/knarly/knotty blocks 2’+ diameter (like the ones I was splitting that smashed into my Eastonmade on the return) through it.
I doubt this wedge was intended for big blocks like that. But the Wolfe has some impressive power also, so it may shove them through like nothing.
They should send it to you for further testing and product development.
