While I can't shop yet (been in lockdown since Dec 26th in my part of Canada) ... eventually when stores open up again, especially to get the type of runner you used (love it) ... then I'll be hopefully doing mine. Psst, staple guns are the cats meow in my tool box here at home!! Stay safe in your home and when you venture outside!

    great job, you left out an important thing....how did you measure for the length rug needed for the stairs? Also I wonder how long carpet tape last to hold carpet down compared to old school tack strips.

    • @dcwoodworks
      @dcwoodworks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think I would trust carpet tape on the stairs, it would be a hard wipe out.
      But to measure, use the Depth plus height of one stair and then multiply it by the number of stairs. add 2 or 3 for waste/ rolling voer the lip edged etc.

      I didn’t use padding because my runners quite thick. I don’t feel like it has more pros or cons. Just depends on if your runner is thin or not

    One thing I couldn't tell in video, what r all the places u staple, is it bottom of riser, back of tread, under the lip and sides? Where on sides did u put the staples? Right on that border edge or inside of the little border? Tks 😊 oh and what size staples? Sorry so many q's 🤦‍♀️

    • @dcwoodworks
      @dcwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry I didn't see this comment!
      Theres no real rhyme or reason because the staples get burried in the rug, but definitely under the lip of the tread and where it bends. The staples are 16 guage! Hope this helps

    Girlllllll I love how you reply to like all of these comments lol. This looks super straight forward, I am looking to do this exact thing and was going to I hire someone, but I'm thinking I can pull this off 🤔. Is it more common to put some sort of underlayer? I assumed I would need that

    • @dcwoodworks
      @dcwoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha I love chatting with people! Plus I appreciate the HECK out of anyone who will take the time to consume my content, my heart and soul goes into these videos.
      I didn't see any underlay in some of the videos that I watched but its not a bad idea. I think it depends on the runner you are using. If its thick and plush, probably not essential but if its thinner and you want a bit more cushion, definitely do it!

    Hello my staircase creaks a lot when I step on it. Will installing a stair runner help absorb the noise ? Are there any other alternatives ? Thanks again great video !!

    • @dcwoodworks
      @dcwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I don't think it will help much with the noise BUT, if you screw through the treads to secure them to the stair stringers, a stair runner will hide that and it should stop the noise.

    • @dcwoodworks

      I think the staples were the key. carpet tape was more so it wouldn't shift under feet since carpet has a flex.

    Does this reduces wooden stairs quirking noise in any way? It looks easier to install instead of installing carpet for whole floors like professionals do.

    • @dcwoodworks
      @dcwoodworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it doesn't but if you have a squeaky stair and plan to install a runner, you can use screws to screw through the stairs to stop the squeak and then cover it with the runner. Hope that helps!
