Sciencey Chick here! I'm only posting this to HELP not to villainize. I love your videos! and of course you have beautiful results. I was SO CONCERNED about the carpet singeing -- because of extremely toxic fumes from petrochemicals and chemical dyes -- they can release benzene and toluene. Burning carpet is NOT safe to do without a respirator. I would suggest anyone interested in following this method do the singeing outdoors, and wearing a respirator, and protective eye wear. I cannot stress this enough! Burning carpets designed with man-made materials (not cotton or wool rugs) release hazardous chemicals into the air we breathe. We're talking lead, mercury, and dioxin. It's also bad because burning carpet often releases endocrine disruptors (these effect humans hormonally.) I know it may seem like you only burned a small amount, but the distance between the burning carpet and your eyes, nose, lungs is super close. You don't always see immediate harm from burning carpet. It's really a big deal. Again, love your videos, just want to protect you and your viewers.
Ahhh, such good info. I feel silly that it didn’t even cross my mind knowing how everything we are surrounded by is made up of toxic materials and chemicals. Adding a disclaimer in the description. Thank you for your thorough explanation.
This is an older video but a couple tips just the same. There’s a product called Fray Check. It’s designed to stop fabrics fraying. It’s not designed for carpet, but it’ll work better than a random glue. It’s also designed to be laundered. So if a kid has an accident, there’s a spill, etc. you can scrub at it & it’ll hold up to it. Secondly, quilting rulers and self healing mats. The mats have a grid (don’t rely on the grid exclusively once you start cutting on the mat regularly). Quilting rulers come in all shapes and sizes and they’re clear. They also have very detailed measurements. A self healing mat allows you to cut directly on it with a blade. It’ll save a lot of time and effort.
You are amazing at keeping your home true to its character! I just love how you seamed the runners to look like one continuous runner. Your attention to detail paid off! The mirrors are beautiful and also keep the space lighter by bouncing the light around. The secretary desk is just gorgeous. Your little boy is just adorable! Thanks for making this video
I think you did a fantastic job!!! That warmed up the stairs and that pattern is beautiful. (I can’t wait to see what you do with the scrap pieces😉😉)LOVE your channel BTW♥️
The whole space turned out beautifully. You both did a great job turning all of the rugs into one gorgeous runner for the stairs. I think all of the visualizing, measuring, cutting, gluing, etc. would have driven me crazy. My mind would have boggled.😂 You both deserve 👏👏👏
Love the runner! The colors are so beautiful and the pattern is visually stunning. Maybe you can use the leftover pieces to make craft projects....coasters or placemats come to mind.
It looks gorgeous! My home was built in 1940 of my husbands grandfather and uncle and we've been restoring our home. I love your channel I've been getting a lot of ideas from you.
Wow what a beautiful difference, I love the look. Have you thought how brass bars would look on the steps. ( I don't know what they are called😜). But, you know right. The stairs look beautiful, and the brass would blend in with your mirror's. God bless and stay safe 🙏 ❤️
Oh my goodness, how gorgeous this turned out! You did an awesome job on everything. The transformation in the foyer and upstairs hallway is incredible - it doesn’t even look like the same area. Your house is so pretty and unique. You allowed the personality and history of the of the house to shine - you absolutely did it justice! I do have one tiny bit of advice to offer - you may want to remove the basket on the steps. I realize that it serves a purpose and prevents you from making numerous trips up the stairs. However, it interferes with the flow of the runner. I like how the carpet draws your eye upward to showcase a beautiful stairway, but the basket interrupts that flow. Please understand that this is in no way a criticism, it’s just that you did such a magnificent job, I think it deserves to been seen as a grand area that encourages a person to climb the stairs to see what awaits them at the top. Again, you showcased a beautiful part of your home!😊💕💕😊 ~Linda
It is just lovely.!! The paint really helped lighten it up and then the mirrors. The runner makes a rich statement. I live in a 1970's split level. I would love to have your home. Joyce
Thank you! I actually meant to talk about this in the video, I talked about it on Instagram a few times and even did a poll. Haha. The rug is centered at the top of the stairs, I was torn between centering at the top or bottom because unlike most staircases that have larger stairs at the bottom ours starts much higher up. After some research I found that professionals recommend to always center from the top down. ☺️
You need those stair runner bar things! I don’t know what they’re called but they have them in gold and it would give the stairs that added little sparkle and vintage flair
Absolutely stunning! Everything looks so regal. Love how you're transforming and decorating your spaces. I bet the brass wall sconces really create warmth and coziness in the evenings😍
Unbelievably fast!! 😭 I meant to respond to your last message and it got lost, so I’m sorry for that!! I am so appreciative of your kind and supportive words. Every time your name pops up I know I’ll be met with kindness, that means so much!! 🥰
@@KrystaMeeker it’s okay darling I get lost too. Your are special and when I see you post I click on your video right away. Your words are so kind to me as well your just so special 🙏🏼🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This turned out so beautiful. I have been thinking about this idea for a while. The pattern did make it more challenging but it turned out amazing. I love all the details you gave and it was very easy to follow. I love old homes and live in one. I appreciate your style and keeping the character of the old home. Always enjoy your channel!
I’ve been watching your awesome videos on my smart tv, but after watching this video I had to subscribe, like, and share. Your clear directions inspired me to at least consider trying to install a runner on my stairs. Your entry is lovely. So beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing this project.
Killed it! Such a diy babe! 👑We will absolutely have to do this when we refinish our basement! Glad to see someone else tackle it before we do! Fabulous job as always! 🤎👏
Excellent mirror mirror wall video as well as this one! Yes, I am ready to do that mirror 🪞 gallery. I have been procrastinating, thanks for the tips on placement and products!
Love the runner you picked! Beautiful! I went online to see what hours/Days an antique store called The pigeon Roost was open….been years since I’d been there. It said it was permanently closed! 😮. Have you ever gone there? It’s in Augusta. If you know of it please tell me it’s still open for business! You just never know about “that internet”. 🤭 Great Job on your entryway…you guys have great style!
Finally got a chance to watch this today. I was very excited to see what you’d done, I love all your videos, and it looks absolutely beautiful!❤️ We have been debating whether to try doing this ourselves or hire someone. I showed my husband, and I think, we’ve decided to go ahead (with the help of your video) and do it ourselves! Thanks so much for going into such detail and for making it so very informative!
Thank you for this tutorial. I want to do our stairway at some point and you gave me lots of tips and courage to tackle it. Ps your little boy is adorable!!

This looks wonderful! May I ask you how 'plum' the plum color actually is? I had this same carpet on a wish list but have been hesitating because of the potential purple tones. Our home also has all of the original dark wood trim and dark staircase. Thank you and your home is quite an inspiration as I try to design around all of the Victorian elements of our home.
Thank you!! I love that you too have original woodwork throughout your old home, such a beautiful feature! There is some plum in the rug but I would say the more predominant colors are a dark blue and the terracotta. I found that some picture online make the colors look much brighter than they are in person, it’s a beautiful rug! ☺️
Thank you! It is centered at the top. While a lot of staircases have stairs that get bigger towards the bottom ours do start higher than most making that something we pondered awhile before beginning. After some research I found that professionals always recommend centering at the top, so we went with that. ☺️
I had another thought so I am commenting again. What if you framed a piece of some of the scraps in an old frame. I have seen old rugs be used as bench cushions or in frames.
Oh, I absolutely did! I love the look of stair rods and looked into it. They are very pricey! Maybe I’ll come across some at an estate sale one of these day?? 🤞
Did you look on eBay - I don’t know how many you need or what size, but just out of curiosity, I looked & there seemed to be a lot of them & not too pricey - but, even without, it looks fantastic - you & your husband make a great team - I’ve never had a boyfriend or husband who could - or would - do anything around the house !

Thank you for your kind words Linda! I agree the basket doesn’t fit the stately feel, it’s definitely there for function. 😆
Take the offcuts for around sinks or as runner for top of ugly dresser or rough shelving.
