This man is 81 years old, if I even get to that age, being that sprightly and eloquent would be amazing. To still have that much hair… who am I kidding, I have less now! But he’s played with almost everyone I listen to and it’s great to listen to him talk - thank you guys!
The jam with McCartney was captured on a bootleg called A Toot and a Snore in 1974. He forgot to mention the other players in the jam: John Lennon and Stevie Wonder.
Geez, Snakey Jim looks outstanding for a gentleman in his 80s. Talk about some black magic sorcery. I'm stoked you guys interviewed him. He doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he's due.
Keltner is my favorite drummer, bar none, so I cannot thank you enough for conducting this interview with him. I mean, getting these kinds of insights and recollections straight from the man is like a kind of scripture, for me. Keltner is the embodiment of what I would aspire to be, as a musician. His taste, his feel, his astonishing creativity, and his respect and love for the music to which he contributes - he's a paragon, an ideal. Thank you again for getting together with Jim and documenting this. It's amazing.
This is so inspiring .Thank you Jim ,Ben .Ryan. Jim is so humble. He has the best attitude ive seen from any pro musician of his level, Always learning. He is one of my favourite drummers and musicians. What a pleassure.
Confused by some of the comments below (RE: VID DATE) ... Please, IN THE VID TITLE ... Time Stamp at least the Month & Year of this extraordinary, well balanced with the actual tunes, interview. I'm a drummer since 4 grade, with various Bands in the Bay Area '66-'68, USO Show in the Fall of of '66 thru-out Europe then I made a Left Turn and became an On-Air respectful loud mouth communicator between the songs on the Radio for 30 years and only Spot-Gigging with my kits in Sit-Ins. I still have my '62 Ludwig Chrome Snare and '63 Gretsch Kick and Toms + a 2008 7-piece. Jim Keltner is a Most Special, Versatile, Respected, Creative ... MR. Jim's Drumming-Life remembrance's could fill a library. Love the interview, Thanks ... More Please !!
Sang along with Gary Lewis & the Playboys, and many others mentioned here, as a kid listening to the radio. Later, while playing in bands, I started paying attention to the individual musicians who made the magic. The name Jim Keltner was everywhere. It’s great to hear his thoughts on it all! Fascinating video! Thanks!
Incredible interview. Great job! I loved the in-depth musical takes, and the great stories! Who hasn't been a big fan of Jim Kelltner? this added a whole new element.
THANK U SO MUCH Guys for this wonderful INNER VIEW with Jim! So interesting and touching, and I didn‘t know much about him before, but happy to know him better now!
Thanks for your wonderful interviews, discussions, new knowledges and bands. Its hard to underestimate. And its extremely motivative for me for new compositions and recordings!
GREAT episode. maybe this is the formula to go with from now on? This is just so dense with amazing info. So educational with just a few stories. I love when a musician can be honest and say, “yeah, I love what I played here”.
11:50 While living in Spain I played with a drummer from Mozambique, I had never played reggae before though I always loved Bob Marley ofc. He was the one who taught me if the kick isn't on the 3 then it's not reggae. How had I never noticed that before?!
Having Keltner on is a real testament to how great your musical depth is. I wish you would have had a chance to get into his work with Little Village or Bill Frisell. That is his best drumming IMO.
I can hear some George influence (e.g., Beware of Darkness) in Jealous Guy. A lot of what George was writing didn't make it on Let It Be or Abbey Road (except arguably the 2 best full length songs: Something, Here Comes the Sun), but John would have heard early versions of songs that were included in the epic All Things Must Pass.
Dude… getting Keltner on for this long is worth WAY more than fancy edits. This is a priceless interview. Rad guests>format. Loved this!
❤ yes ❤

This shook me too. I was thinking about the artists he has been working with, and I'm like... was this dude 12 at time? Nah, just completely ageless.
The jam with McCartney was captured on a bootleg called A Toot and a Snore in 1974. He forgot to mention the other players in the jam: John Lennon and Stevie Wonder.
If I didn't know before that you can be humbled by someone being humble, I know it now.
15:14 Keltner is so locked in he puts his coffee down perfectly in time ⌚
Wow jim has just about the best mindset for a musician, nothing but passion and respect for his fellow musicians, such a humble guy
Geez, Snakey Jim looks outstanding for a gentleman in his 80s. Talk about some black magic sorcery. I'm stoked you guys interviewed him. He doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he's due.
My god. Genius calibre right here. Thanks for this interview, guys.

His memory is as great as his drumming. So many priceless stories. So cool.
Love how the snare hits on the last word of each line on the Oberst track. So simple but effective.
Great interview! I had the pleasure of playing on a session with Jim with Steve Porcaro last year. A bucket list for me.
Wow, so great to hear Jim Keltner talk about music like this -- well done, guys!
Superb! “I wasn’t intimidated by Fagen…yet!” 😂
That hat on the Ziggy song sounds so cool. Almost sounds like a delay on it
Jim Keltner, the legend!
Love it! Keep on doing what you’re doing!!
The coaches headsets are a nice touch. Really enjoyed the content. Drummers always have great stories.
So much history, legend! 👏🏻
Great show guys!! What a cool guy and so humble.
What an inspirational man! Iconic in every sense of the word.
Excellent subject guys! Keltner is so important to our music history!

Thanks for this guys! One of my all time favourite drummers. A true legend and so humble.

This was fantastic guys. Keep up the good work and thanks for doing it
THANK U SO MUCH Guys for this wonderful INNER VIEW with Jim! So interesting and touching, and I didn‘t know much about him before, but happy to know him better now!
You guys do pay attention to the whole thing. It's awesomely refreshing.
I grew up reading liner notes and knew Jim's name but hadn't ever seen an interview. Very interesting.
Love that he shouted out Nicky Hopkins. Among music nerds, he’s incredibly revered.
But among normal people, he really is an unsung hero
Wow this dude is so rad! Has such a good vibe
This was a treat! Thank you so much!
As I unwrapped my favourite new albums, I kept seeing his name. Like, for years.
Just beautiful. ❤
Dance with Me..... you called a good one there. I always wondered about the backbeat placement. Props to Ryan, you're really dialed in...
Thanks for your wonderful interviews, discussions, new knowledges and bands. Its hard to underestimate. And its extremely motivative for me for new compositions and recordings!
goddamn he is cool...
great interview guys so keen for more!
This show is a treasure
Awesome interview with Jim.
GREAT episode. maybe this is the formula to go with from now on? This is just so dense with amazing info. So educational with just a few stories. I love when a musician can be honest and say, “yeah, I love what I played here”.
Loved this! How cool is Jim Keltner!
Pretty freaking cool.
This was great! Please do a part 2...:)
Jim's drumming on the Pahinui Brothers cover of Jealous Guy is my favorite.
It would be nice if a Spotify playlist with songs mentioned is included with each episode
Jim’s playing on Frisell’s “Gone just like a train” is fabulous
Totally ❤
I meet Mr Keltner at Curtis Armstong home in the late 90's nice guy
Not understanding the hate on this format lol. This video is great, it’s enough just to be able to listen to someone as great as this
Jim must have found the fountain of youth.
at 21:40
worst cut off of an interesting conversation
I know right!?
Brilliant stuff thank you!
Just to add to the Ringo snare story; he bought the drum kit from Ivor Arbiter , the man who created the Fuzz Face !
Endless love for Jim Keltner. I don’t pray while I’m playing, I’m thinking what would Jim do, and more importantly what wouldn’t Jim do.
I could watch an eight hour version of this conversation
So good ❤
Love Jim...
This is great.
I don’t see what people are complaining about. The old format was overkill for interviews, I think most people just listen to it anyway
Great just great episode!

Lovely guy.
Legendary!! Right on yal
My favorite drummer.
What a great talk !
Thanks for this! Fastest 40 minutes ever.

Legend.
He did record with Paul! Concert for George - Something...
Two favorite (but maybe not as famous) Keltner tracks: "Memphis in the Meantime" John Hiatt; "Which Way Steinway" AJ Croce
Thank you.
I hope he comes back for part#2
Nice. I wish you asked him if there are any new albums he’s listening to!
It's a Little Village, Mon!!!🤩😎
It’s wild Jim didn’t know the basic reggae beat but was able to nail the feel just after learning it.
I’m not even sure it’s learning… I think the best drummers just absorb a beat and are able to produce it with their body.
Jim Keltner wow
Legend!!👊🏽🥂
Jim is truly the best. And Jealous Guy is probably my favorite Lennon song.
This is sick but also….. hey Ryan, what guitar hanger are you using there?
"I pray before I play" ...how do you top that? ...I stretch...I practice?
legend
That Ziggy album is absurdly good!
Where's the transcript? Is it disabled on Dead Wax?? :((
WONDERFUL episode, btw.
I wonder which of the songs from Ruminations he’s referring to.
I'd read that Ringo got the calf heads just prior to Abbey Road.
steve jordan would be incredible on this, lofty guest tho
Just started watching. Y'all better talk about his Leon Russell and Joe Cocker days.
Well, Leon got briefly mentioned. But no pop up. 😢
Legend but a pity no Ry Cooder was included
We need a steely Dan episode
"Sue me, Sue you Blues" by George Harrison. Listen to Jim Keltner's playing on that track !
Can’t convince me this dude is 80
Holy CRap the Keltner
love the stuff he did with Conor Oberst
If Delaney hadn't fired Keltner, he might have been on Layla and All Things Must Pass. What if?
Love the Conor Oberst praise
Awwwwweeseommmeeeeeee.......
Serious question- does keltner have an issue with his eyes?
Hey guys I love what you're doing here but those headset mics sound like ass.
was there a click? " oh no.. my god.."
I wish you guys would get rid of the headsets and go back to the mics you used before
