I got my Reign 5 pair and man it is worth it. It feels like the Reign 3 when wearing it, but with the Reign 4 construction, it is not stiff like the Reign 4. It is definitely worth getting a pair if you are on the fence.
I personally love these...but you are spot on with the laces. And we talked about that previously as well. I replaced the laces with flat, shorter laces and it saved the shoes for me. I was contemplating returning them at first.
Just got these, your video helped me a lot cause i got a great deal ($45), but it was a blind buy cause i couldnt try them on, initial impressions are great and your opinion its pretty accurate, thanks Jake
Awesome detailed review. Love the content and the back flips. I this might be more work but I wish there was a section about how this shoe and others compare to other shoes in your top 5 or shoes that lead in the training /CrossFit space. Just for context on how this preforms over other. Popular models.
Thank you! I make more updates about that stuff in articles. It’s hard to do in videos since I can’t go back in and edit as things change. Plus, I try to make these a little more to the point. I love that suggestion, though!
Hey Jake, I'm having a bit of a dilemma and could really use your advice. I'm stuck between choosing the Nike Metcon 9 and the UA Tribase Regin 5 shoes. They're both around the same price point, but I'm not sure which one is the better option for me. I've heard good things about both, but I'm really looking for something that offers great support and durability for my cross training workouts. Which one do you think is better? Thanks for your help!
Great detailed review. I really wanna get the new model. I own the 3s and 4s and they are my go to model for fitness. Great training btw, hope to see more videos of that too.
Hey thanks for the video! I’m struggling to choose between this and a converse (low top). I’ve been wearing converse for years and they work well. I don’t think I have stability issues with deadlifts and squats in the Converse. Would I be well served with this UA? I’ve done the following weight level. I workout 3-4x a week. Squat 80kg (targeting 100-120) Deadlift 110kg (targeting 140-160)
Couple things. IMO, if it ain't broke, I would fix it. For ex, if you're happy with Conv then I'd keep rocking them. That said, if you want to do more cross-training/versatile training then I'd go with the TriBase Reign 5. It will serve those thresholds well!
@@thatfitfriend I haven’t trained in them yet, but they feel lower to ground, and the midsole feels less clunky and less stiff. You can sort of feel the ground with them. They finally fixed the lace issue and I think they’ll be much better for short runs. The heel doesn’t slip for me (it did in the 5’s). The toe box seems wider but I haven’t taken actual measurements. The 4’s and 5’s took a while to break in. I don’t think these will have that issue as they are much for flexible in the forefoot. Happy holidays.
@@thatfitfriend so I trained in these the past few days and I’m really enjoying them. The laces are still a bit long but oval shaped and more secure. Softer underfoot than the 4 and 5 but stable due to the plastic shank (which I wasn’t sold on at first). I think you’re going to enjoy them!
What do you currently wear/how do you train? Can give a better answer with more context. They're both solid, so your individual needs will help us get the best pair for you!
@@thatfitfriend I pretty much have one of everything. My current go to is the TR4, Nano X2, and React Metcon. But also have the M7 which I really only use when its lifting workouts as I find my heel doesnt sit deep enough and get slip. Otherwise depends on the workout which I'll gravitate towards. But right now tend to reach for the TR4 as it seems to be good all around for mostly all CrossFit workouts.
Im a beginner mainly focusing on doing HIIT, tabata and circuit training. Then some lifting. Im also training to prepare to join spartan races next year. What do you you recommend between this tribase reign 5 or the metcon 8 considering the type of training ill be using it for currently and in the future? (Excluding the actual spartan race, ive got a different shoe in mind for that)
I usually wear size UK 9 but the size 9 in this is just way too big for me. They don't stock half sizes in my area so I tried on the size 8. It felt good in the toes area with enough space and not too tight. It felt a bit tight under the laces. You mentioned the shoe will break in. Does that mean it would feel less tight under the laces area after a week or so of wearing them?
@@thatfitfriend I prefer the flat laces on the Reign 4 and it didn't feel as tight under the laces as the 5. I was wearing think socks when trying them on. They are currently on sale by me in a colour I like. The Reebok Nano X3 costs more and dont have the colours I like in my size
A little bit of both, tbh. It's rough because diff companies will use diff sizing charts so I always try to share what fits "true" regarding the size I buy for all of my content. If you have questions about sizing always ask and drop a note about what shoe/size you're currently wearing!
These will feel a little stiffer through the sole, but similar levels of stability/versatility for training, IMO. Also, these will feel "flatter" 2mm drop vs 7mm

The toe box looks like it’s more roomy. I have the 4s and I wish the toe box was a tad bit looser/ roomier feeling. Would you say that’s the case in comparison?
It’s seems to me that the 5’s run a little bigger than the 4’s. I feel like my heel slips a little in the 5 and def does not the 4’s. Could be the laces or maybe there is a little more room in the toe box. I find myself wanting to grab my 4’s more than my 5’s. I’ve only worn the 5’s for about 10, 1 hour training sessions.

UA Tribase Reign 5 or Reebok Nano X3 for mix training (Crossfit, lifting, calisthenics, DU)? I'm on the fence. And BTW in Canada they are the same price.
I currently wear Metcon 8, but I don't like the heel construction. To tell you the truth there is not much I like about these shoes. I got them as a gift. I guess they are ok shoes but I would like something better. FYI, my workouts are generally a mix of weight training, Crossfit, calisthenics, and cardio. I don't do heavy lifting anymore (just deadlifts with a trap bar, no conventional squats: I do belt squats instead). I mostly work my legs with machines. I have back problems: I've done too many heavy squats in the past (I'm a former olympic track cyclist). I also do some boxing (mostly heavy bag routine) and jump rope (heavy and light ropes, some DUs, speed rope, freestyle, etc.) I also do a lot of spinning (SCHWINN A.C. PERFORMANCE WITH CARBON BLUE) and rowing (Matrix) at home. For running (track and treadmill) I wear Mizuno Sayonara shoes. I'm a mid distance runner. It's during the summer months that I do most of my cycling, calisthenics and (outdoor) Crossfit. Hope this helps. Thanks for your kind assistance.
@@claudetaillefer1332 IMO, either model should work for your context! I feel like the TriBase Reign 5 would resonate best with ya, but if you love how the Nano X3 looks, then they should work plenty fine for you as well.
