Fun fact: the flamethrower at 4:55 is called The Blaster and it actually has an interesting backstory. It wasn’t some crazy, unhinged mod, it was an actual defense mechanism meant to deter carjackers in South Africa. More importantly, it was LEGAL. See, back in the late 90’s, Johannesburg was the violent crime capital of the world, particularly in carjackings at stop lights. The Blaster was created as a lethal defense mechanism, since the carjackings more often than not resulted in the death of the driver. The South African government ruled that the sale and use of the Blaster was 100% legal on the grounds of self-defense. The only problem was it was super expensive, not counting the custom bodywork required to install it. About 50 units were sold, but poor sales meant it was discontinued a few years later.
Absolutely legal yep It can't be an automated anti-theft device; but a human-activated self defense tool is (probably) generally legal *IF* lethal force is warranted when it is activated.
So having lived in JHB in the 90's, I'll confirm that this device was NEVER legal in South Africa, it merely took advantage of a loophole in the local legislation. There was a lot of 'hot' 😜 debate around it when it made headlines, only to be confirmed by the SAPS that such devices were completely illegal. It was then replaced by another completely legal version that deployed pepper-laced paint instead.
@@jer1014t2th You're not allowed to have and use illegal devices, even if it is for legal purpose. For it to be legal, either it specifically needs to be made legal, or a flamethrower needs to be legal. That On Patrol Live clip 8:03. Was actually held on by coat hangers. He was just at a meet up and it broke there. He pulls out a pack of cheap walmart wire coat hangers from the trunks and fixes it again right there. It was truly a temporary fix tell he got home.
That might work there and would work in Germany, but don't try it around here or in France. You need some pretty good ground clearance to drive on a normal road here, and in France they may as well just have a sign up at the ferry port saying: "entire road in 💩-state, next 300 km."
Honestly the decorative hood on the trooper car is just going to lead to said trooper coming back and either not noticing it at all, or stopping and wondering if he always had that there. All in all I think in that case they would get a chuckle out of it and something to give the police garage something to chuckle about too. Hell, they'll probably keep it for "speed"

4:59 As a South African, i can vouch that Flame throwers are not heavily regulated in South Africa, and there is (Currently) No restriction against arming your car with a flamethrower insofar that it is not lethal.
Laws are different in south anyway. In the us you can’t legally modify your car in many ways anymore… we are lucky to be able to make anything legal with some brandy and coke 😂😂😂
Here's the other problem with squatted trucks that nobody talks about. I'm an over-the-road truck driver I sit a little bit higher than everybody else you think they take the time to aim those headlights properly? No of course not they might as well be driving down the road with their high beams on blinding every truck driver on the road. Do you want all of us in our 80,000 lb trucks blind?
I don't think a headlight has left the factory properly aimed since the introduction of factory LEDs. Add to this lifts and the current trend of selling lifted trucks new as a way to justify that $50K markup, and I have basically been flashing and driving with my mirrors set so I can't see anything behind me for the past 4 years.
hell, i have this problem as a local/short haul driver with just normal cars. people think that because we're in a seat that's mounted above their roofline, their high beams dont reach us. driving in northern michigan at 2am, it's fucking dark. on a clear night, i can see flashing lights 4 miles down the road. please folks, kill the high beams. and all new pickup trucks are entirely too bright, even with the low beams on.
yeah, that, and also you have the crash structure of the vehicle four feet off the ground so if you hit another driver head on your bumper is going straight into their windshield, and then likely flip the rest of the vehicle as the intended method of energy dispersion is waaaay out the window
It's kinda wild that, in the US "Oh yeah, that just broke" is an excuse that works on the cops - here in Australia, the cops will stick a Yellow Sticker on your car that basically indicates "this car better be driving to the mechanic to get fixed, and nowhere else" if you say that.
In both countries, as with anywhere else, it’s completely dependent on what’s broken and the attitude of both you and the cop. In my opinion your explanation of “the yellow sticker” is completely incorrect. Your car being defected will cost you at minimum, $1000 And removing/tampering with the large sticker in the middle of the windshield isn’t just civil, it’s a criminal offense that will also cost you several thousand more dollars. I think you’ve misinterpreted something somewhere. A cop might use their discretion to “allow” some sort of infringement on the premise that you are driving without detour to immediately address some issue but it’s not a right, you’d be foolish to take it for granted or mess about as even if being “permitted” you’re still taking a big risk.
It's even better than that! If you get a ticket in Texas for some kind of maintenance issue (which is almost always dismissed in court) then you can actually keep the carbon copy to show to OTHER cops who pull you over for the same problem, so that they leave you alone! Amazing state
Also I think the main reason that flashing lights would be illegal while driving is more of confusing other people if you're an emergency/service vehicle, rather than making people confused if you're braking/turning or not.
I wonder what the specific law says. Because over here, even when you are parked, you are considered a 'traffic participant' (if I'm translating that correctly) if you have your engine running and this would be illegal (assuming that is a public parking space of course).
@@Shade01982 notice that the lights are pointed towards a sidewalk, away from parking lot, and away the road. If no cars can actually see your lights, I wonder if that would make a difference.
@@Shade01982 Teslas have lightshow as a feature, and can sync with hundreds of other Teslas to "dance", and it's legal. I guess they don't have an engine running... lol maybe that's the difference
Those flashing tail lights are too close to the police lights for my comfort. There's a possibility of catching an "impersonation of a police vehicle" charge.
In Germany it works like this: if the police think your vehicle has been illegally tampered with, the driver has to show papers confirming that the modifications have been officially approved. If he is unable to do so, the vehicle is taken to an expert who checks its roadworthiness. The driver may not use his vehicle again until it is in the legally permitted condition. They will also have to pay a fine for driving an unauthorized vehicle. In the event of an accident, they may also lose their insurance cover.
The "road-worthiness" of cars is under much more stringent rules in general. There's so, so much stuff I've only seen online from the US, because it'd get you a ticket the moment any cop saw you. In fact, when I heard that "limos" made in the garage by Frankensteining your car (or I guess your car and at least one other) are generally legal in the US, I couldn't believe it. On one hand, the freedom of being able to do basically whatever you want with your car sounds awesome. On the other hand, when I'm going 240km/h on the Autobahn, I really appreciate knowing all cars around me can be trusted not to fall apart spontaneously.
Here's a thing yalls should be considering when putting a mod on your car. "will this get me pulled over?" In this day and age, the less things you can do to draw attention from the cops, the better.
Criminals, who might not have ever been caught, get busted for moving violations all the time. Sometimes the passengers can get locked up too if they had warrants

Hello from South Africa! That flamethrower thing was actually prototype for a defence system against car jackers. Not killing them but definitely stopping them and hurting them in the presses. Thankfully I never had to see it in action, let alone have it installed.
The Carolina Squat truck is stupid for another reason: People who are not seat belted can suffer horrific injuries to the head on the edges of the sunroof opening. Up to and including opening your skull and allowing your brain to eject. Driving with your head 1/2 way out of the sunroof is a great way to accomplish this Darwinian feat.
I'd say yes let stupid figure itself out, but innocent people are often in the way of stupid. Darwinism sure can work the other way, but a kid seeing this monstrosity coming down the road can't fathom just how fatal it can be. Sometimes stupid kills stupid. But sometimes it's just a tragedy.
That’s was my first thought seeing that. If he has to brake suddenly at any point his head is going straight into that sunroof and at the very least he’s going to break his nose or say adios to some teeth.

The clip they showed mentioned it, but this was specifically designed to protect you from car jackers. It is from South Africa, where that is an issue. The first person from Johannesburg to install it in their car, was the cities police chief.
Interesting how it falls back to that. What if it didn't shoot flames? What if the car just puffs a cloud of pepperspray? Or a really strong blast of compressed air? 11:30 Gotta disagree with Devin on this - many states have a law that says the wheels and tires cannot protrude out further than the body of the car. Usually this rule is applied to lifted pickup trucks with big tires - and usually skirted around by slapping on some cheap plastic wheel arches on the fenders.
Exactly this. That or real extended towing mirrors, such as with Dodge Rams that I like to call moose, since they look like antlers. But normally it's a law places that the fenders/mudflaps have to be wide as the tires.

Apparently you can possess a flame thrower in California with a permit. Frighteningly, that seems to be one of the more restrictive states for flame throwers.
I've seen a toned-down tasteful version of the "rave brake lights" you analyzed, and if they're handled well they're great. Basically, instead of the wild and random lights they do a standard soft-red for braking, a light-show-style sweep of lights left or right for turn signals, which is SHOCKINGLY effective at indicating how they want to turn, and best of all a brighter red with a single flash if they do a hard brake suddenly. In other words, the tech that allows for the kinda-dumb light show Can Be Used For Good.

Absolutely legal yep
It can't be an automated anti-theft device; but a human-activated self defense tool is (probably) generally legal *IF* lethal force is warranted when it is activated.

Almost like how new big rig trucks with hid/led headlights blind every car passing them head on?
You mean like that?
Is that what you mean?
hell, i have this problem as a local/short haul driver with just normal cars. people think that because we're in a seat that's mounted above their roofline, their high beams dont reach us. driving in northern michigan at 2am, it's fucking dark. on a clear night, i can see flashing lights 4 miles down the road. please folks, kill the high beams. and all new pickup trucks are entirely too bright, even with the low beams on.
yeah, that, and also you have the crash structure of the vehicle four feet off the ground so if you hit another driver head on your bumper is going straight into their windshield, and then likely flip the rest of the vehicle as the intended method of energy dispersion is waaaay out the window
They have special night driving tinted glasses that would provide some protection against that. But you can't fix stupid.
Your car being defected will cost you at minimum, $1000
And removing/tampering with the large sticker in the middle of the windshield isn’t just civil, it’s a criminal offense that will also cost you several thousand more dollars.
Strict rules down there in prison.
@@Jay22222 Sounds like the cops in the land down under are just highway robbers.
It's even better than that! If you get a ticket in Texas for some kind of maintenance issue (which is almost always dismissed in court) then you can actually keep the carbon copy to show to OTHER cops who pull you over for the same problem, so that they leave you alone! Amazing state
That doesn’t sound like a very fun place for car enthusiasts
Those taillights are completely legal if only used like that when parked. They are using a "dance mode" but act as normal lights when driving.
ALL these mods are completely legal if not used on public roads.

Are they actually flashing while driving or is it just a light show for the parking lot?
In Germany it works like this: if the police think your vehicle has been illegally tampered with, the driver has to show papers confirming that the modifications have been officially approved. If he is unable to do so, the vehicle is taken to an expert who checks its roadworthiness. The driver may not use his vehicle again until it is in the legally permitted condition. They will also have to pay a fine for driving an unauthorized vehicle. In the event of an accident, they may also lose their insurance cover.
basically: asking for permission, not for forgiveness.
Better for society this way..
Reasonable.
Only dickheads want stupidly fucked up cars.
TUV sagt nein
Sounds like the Third Reich all over again!

Exactly this. That or real extended towing mirrors, such as with Dodge Rams that I like to call moose, since they look like antlers. But normally it's a law places that the fenders/mudflaps have to be wide as the tires.

Basically, instead of the wild and random lights they do a standard soft-red for braking, a light-show-style sweep of lights left or right for turn signals, which is SHOCKINGLY effective at indicating how they want to turn, and best of all a brighter red with a single flash if they do a hard brake suddenly.

Hollowing out a Cat would be hilarious where I'm from cause we have had a lot of people stealing them off people's vehicles. They think they would have a money maker, but oops it's not a real Cat! Psych!
Not gonna lie, given WA State stopped doing emissions and apparently catalytic converters are a hot stolen item, that would be a great business model.
Ah yes, installing “fart tubes” that make an engine sound like a deflected lawnmower.
TOO FAST TOO FURIOUS. 😂
That BMW was actually a factory option back in the day for cars sold in African countries. Taser door handles were also an option.
It was never a factory option.
Why do people lie on the internet?
Really cause when I worked there for years we definitely shown this video as part of the history of the company and I was explained that it was a factory option for the South African market. Why do idiots comment on something the clearly know nothing about?
Lmao
Lawyer: this shit illegal
Sandro: *cool
"Pickleballers of the car world" 😂Devin doesn't miss
Savage, I never saw the Pickleball crowd getting brought into this, but I love it.
In CA where Legal Eagle is familiar with, the hollow catalytic is illegal. In WV where I'm from, that would be legal. Here the law only says you have to have a cat, it doesn't say it has to work.
