I’m currently rewatching Insecure, and my views on certain characters & plot points are much more different to how they were when I first watched the show! Then, I was a teen when the show started and ended; now I’m in my early 20s. I highly recommend a rewatch for anyone who hasn’t watched it in some time!
I was so excited when I was notified about this Issa video and what an excellent video( as usual) and as a Black woman ( who's Senegalese, Gambian and American) who is also awkward and weird, Issa Rae is one of my inspiration and I love how she provided representation of Black woman being multifaceted and also being authentic to who she is. Her work is definitely something I resonate or enjoy ( cause they are well written). Also , Isa is definitely one of the four horse women of Quirky Black Woman as of recent ( the others being Quinta, Ayo, and Michela )
This was tewwwww goodddddd!! To answer your questions, yes you should vlog ur time in LA & go to her coffee shop & I’m loving the critiques on pop culture, but I’m also a twenty-something quirky black girl who’s tryna figure out the whole adulthood thing, so seeing more personal vids would be great too
NO ISSA RAE SLANDER WILL BE TOLERATED 💅 I’ve been following her since her awkward black girl days, got her book when it first came out, and saw her rise to the top. I saw so much of myself in her and so did my friends. Insecure is legendary and I will always root for her and her continued ascension. That’s my girl 💛
the photograph was definitely something I expected more out of tbh, but go visit in & out in California!!!! thanks for this deep dive. would love to hear more about insecure!
issa rae changed the trajectory of my life when i was in middle school & my lil grown ass stumbled upon “Awkward Black Girl” (circa, 2011)!
I enjoy seeing Issa Rae carve out roles for Black women and archetypes that have never been displayed before i.e. the awkward Black girl.
