It’s incredible to see how McLaren has mastered the hybrid supercar game with the Artura. The electric mode for stealthy starts and smooth city driving is a game-changer. The fact it still performs like a true supercar without the loud roar is both a blessing and a slight bummer, though. Thoughts on the sound trade-off
I would still go Huracan Technica. It is the last V10 we are likely to see for a very long time. There will be no shortage of Hybrid V6 supercars to choose from in the near future. The handling of this McLaren is impressive and it seems to be easy to drive fast which is good, however I would worry about reliability even before they start adding hybrid drivetrains. I think this is a car people should lease.
Nah I would go for this cause it's a McLaren, it's a hybrid, and the v6 sound is nasty, where as everything else has either a v10 or a v12 , the v6 hybrid is something very unique and I like it especially from a McLaren with a v6 , i don't think they ever used a v6 before unless I'm mistaken
McLaren reliably is one of those over repeated problems. It’s mostly little things breaking. Nobody hyped up the Ferrari 488 internal cam sensor labels making their way through the oiling system and killing engines 😬
I'm sold! Definitely keeping this one in mind for later on in life. Love the hybrid supercar idea, as the BMW i8 is one of my favorite cars ever! Even though the car is super expensive, and if you've got that kind of money then gas money is trivial, it's still a fun idea to have great gas mileage on a gorgeous vehicle.
I will choose McLaren all day long. Perfect looking Car with perfect ergonomics and drive like absolutely Dream. The steering feel is unbelievable. The Way, the whole carbon chesis communicates with you is perfection, and I don’t think any car manufacturers come close to it.
3:10 Subwoofer in a McLaren for the first time holy cow and Bowers and Wilkins is a awesome sound system so you can listen to any jams u like me rock, rap, edm, and Spanish hip hop/rap
This is a softer version of the 720S. Same headlights and front end, side profile is very similar to the spider with the floating buttresses. The back end and diffuser also remind me of the 720S. Should be driving one this coming weekend courtesy of McLaren Houston. I do find it far better looking than any other sport series ever released.
The car is cool, but I really really love that road that you drove on. Wish I had roads that nice. Where is it? I'll have to hit up on my next road trip.
Hey I know it’s late but could you try a Kia stinger? Thinking about buying one and would love to see it reviewed by you. I have a Camaro rn and just wanna see how the stinger compares
I reviewed the 2020 Stinger GTS a while back, and not much has changed to be honest (th-cam.com/video/vt5N_qVHh3Q/w-d-xo.html). I also made a POV (no talking) drive in the 2022 GT-Line model: th-cam.com/video/si-VNQjENns/w-d-xo.html You'll be able to see out of it better than in the Camaro 😆
Could you imagine that in the future, your car could swap to it's combustion engine based on its location. So, if you set the desired location at the gate of your neighborhood, the car would immediately swap to it once you reached that spot
That sounds cool, and probably not far off, but for now, it's so easy to hit a button and make the switch myself, that I'm not itching for that location-based reality yet.
You sound a little like Kermit the Frog. Its nice. Also, very nice presentation regardless. I got a presentation of the Spyder in Munich at the dealership there. I was surprised the salesman was as friendly as he was. Gorgeous car.
The start up sequence for a supercar is part of what the buyers enjoy, I could care less about my “neighbors” as if this car is in my grips financially my neighbors and neighborhood won’t be suffering from Plebeian non-sense
Mmmm…. The fun part is that in four years, when I’m a journeyman, I’ll be able to comfortably afford one of these. Exciting! Also, does the rear glass go down? I dunno why but something tells me that it does
There isn't much pedal travel, so you need very fine control of them around town to avoid over-braking, but when you're going quickly, you want a sharp pedal response.
So on this hybrid models, how do you warm up the engine? I just imagine driving 3 miles on Electric only, then turning on launch control at the light. I can’t imagine this being a good thing. Cold oil, metal parts have not full expanded. Long term of course.
I guess you need to start learning the very basics of modern cars like hybrids. Well, ok, I'll give you an answer: you just select a mode which turns on the engine...that's what I used to always do at the very start of any drive to make sure the engine is warn. This McLaren refuses to even use the engine at all to propel the car until it has warmed up. So unlike most hybrids if during a drive you've only been doing in electric drive you have a cold engine and you're out of battery power: no matter what the McLaren only starts up the combustion engine and then allows it to warm up and refuses to use it to drive the car, it will even slow down if the battery is nearly empty but still won't use a cold combustion engine.
It hard to decide between this one and the GT. The GT is softer, more room and has better sounds from a V8. Both are great but I might favor the GT if I was going to try to daily drive it.
its so fast the speedo needs to be blured all the time for the canyon part, a few seconds and youre going triple digit speeds in no time. The brakes are good enough to stop it tough from that high speed. The sennas brakes are insane I'm sure the brakes on this thing are also brutal.
Very sleek and driver focused beast. Supercars should have been this way with hybrid tech a decade ago. Extreme performance and silent usability when needed. Surely like the current respectful weight measures, in 5 years battery tech is going to be way lighter.
It's a nice hand-off, but battery tech a decade ago was so primitive, supercars would have weighed twice what they do now as hybrids. Agreed that in the years to come, as tech improves and components get lighter, the weight penalty will be even less an issue
Would it damage the engine let say the car been on ev mode driving until highway ramp and I need to floor it to get to speed but the engine would be still cold?
I don't think it would let you do that. From what I've heard when you start the car up. It always enters electric mode and you can't switch it until the engine warms up. Now if the car is already warmed up and you decide to start it up. It will still go in electric mode. But you can change it to an engine since it's already warmed up.
@@VGClementine But how would the engine get warmed up if it doesnt allow to swithc out of ev mode after start up. This question goes to all plug in hybrids. But its just more scary to think about it in a high end sports car lol
Super clean what Mclaren did with this, but if I had to choose the NSX Type S over this I would in a heartbeat. The AWD is a must along with the lower prices. I think Ferrari did it best however with this hybrid segment, the 296GTB is an absolute monster and sounds insane for a V6
You repair them just like an engine. Obviously they are incredibly expensive to repair just like any engine, especially one that comes out of a supercar like a McLaren. The batteries in this car would cost a fortune to fix, most likely tens of thousands of dollars.
