What is a Recloser?

At Essex Powerlines, we use a smart device called a recloser to help keep your lights on and your home powered up. Here’s how it works in simple terms:
1. Isolates Problems: When there's a hiccup in the power line (like a temporary short circuit), the recloser quickly identifies that there is an issue and tries to isolate it, so the problem is isolated to a smaller outage.
2. Keeps You Safe: If the problem was only temporary (like a branch touching the line), the power comes back on. If it’s a bigger issue, the recloser keeps the line off to avoid further problems.
3. Improves Grid Reliability: By doing this, it helps reduce the number of affected customers or the chances of a large outage and keeps the power flowing smoothly to your home.
