In this video, we recreate the events aboard Southwest Airlines Flight 6013 on March 22, 2023. The flight, a Boeing 737, departed from Las Vegas’s Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) bound for Columbus, Ohio, when the Pilot in Command (PIC) became incapacitated shortly after takeoff. The crew faced a critical situation as the captain fell unconscious due to sudden stomach pain, leaving the First Officer to take control of the aircraft.
With the captain unable to continue, an off-duty pilot, traveling as a passenger, entered the flight deck and assisted the First Officer with communications and procedures, helping guide the plane back safely to Las Vegas. The aircraft made a successful emergency return, where emergency services were on standby to attend to the afflicted captain.
