"everyone gangsta until the sky starts speaking Latin!" -common joke about ace encounters in this game lol
I didn't even think about the tight methodical singing, its honestly a great representation of the Ace pilot this plays for. Mr X (wont spoil how ungodly long his name is) is a legendary pilot that is aging and is now part of an experimental squadron where they are scanning his brain in each battle of this war and using it in an AI for these next generation drones. First encounter with him is very chilling. You hear your wingman having a complete breakdown as he hunts her down. Later kills 2 more of your wingmates so when its the final fight with him its very tense and very personal.

Ace Combat and the newcomer Project Wingman don't exist without their music. The music is as integral to the gameplay as the game mechanics and combat. The music matches the pacing of the games near perfectly: in the calm before the storm, the combat, after the storm, and in the exposition. It's always on point, always driving.

Bought Project Wingman when it first came out cause I was definitely hurting for something more AC-like. Didn't expect nearly the same level of quality or engagement from the soundtrack, but was floored as I went through the missions. The soundtracks for each game are fantastic, and very appropriately selected for their missions. Everything hits JUST right.

Mihaly, to me, feels like a mirror to the player. He fights simply because he wants to keep flying. He nurtures wars by staying in the air, hoping he can at least fly one more time. He doesn't care about anything on the ground, and anything in the air is just another target.
We, as the player, have become a catalyst of war every time we played another Ace Combat game. We've struck fear into our enemies by name alone. What happens on the ground is little more than a point-and-click adventure game, and those in the air are swatted away like flies.
This is Mihaly's theme, but in essence, it is also *your* theme. You face a mirror and see who you have become.
Old, scarred, a distant memory, only fighting to keep flying.

      @NATESOR ปีที่แล้ว +10

I think you're very much spot on. Not just figuratively. If you play trigger's theme and mihaly's theme back to back they are literally the same notes and movements. For fun, compare the tracts dual wielder with sol squadron. Many shared elements. I remember reading that in a lot of hero's journey's there's often an antagonist that is exactly what you're saying. A mirror of the protagonist, and the fear the protagonist has of becoming. Like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. On top of that is often placed a more unknowable "other" enemy who's evil is incomprehensible and alien. Like the emperor, or I'd argue, the drones/arsenal bird in AC7.

Mihaly is a strange character for me, on the one hand he's got that nostalgia factor considering he is literally the instructor of Yellow 13 (AC4 main antagonist pilot).
He's got this angelic song. He's trynna fight for a country who dissolved his heritage. He continuously came time after time to fight us in AC7 cus he enjoys the fight and challenge. In the end... he says he just wanted to feel free in the Kingdom of the Sky which btw he can't do so anymore since in the last bout with the protagonist he did survived but maimed.

Kind of interesting: After recording this I realized it was archange as in archangel. Makes me wonder if this song is to then indicate to the player and the listener that we, as players, are actually sent out to protect people from some sort of enemy. I really admire and love all these little connotations that exist in this ace combat musical universe.

I've always felt that Mihaly, the ace that this song represents, is basic to the utmost degree. And I don't mean that in the modern insulting way, but rather that this man uses nothing that isn't required. He's immesurably skilled at what he does, he adds no flare that doesn't serve a purpose (when he "plays with his prey," he's analyzing them and trying to internalize their movements and combat style such that he can extrapolate how their comrades and wingmen might be trained to act as well, not simply torturing them or deriving entertainment from it). This song feels the same to me: we're not sitting in the middle of massive orchestral chords, we're not letting voices flow and lollygag, we're saying what needs to be said, playing what needs to be played, stabbing staccato, punching rhythm, chanting almost tribally.

Hold up, one more thing. You should give the basic Sol Squadron theme a listen. It's the theme of Mister X's lackeys. The symbolism is pretty neat. The chorus and symphony could represent Sol's dominance, but you can hear this lone acoustic guitar strumming in the background. That acoustic never stops playing through the entire piece. It becomes difficult to hear, but it's always there. That could represent the player. So the entire piece could be symbolic of while Sol Squadron is the main attraction, the player never leaves them alone, and never stops being a thorn in their sides.

It's awesome that you listened to Archange! I don't know if I would work out to this masterpiece, but it's amazing regardless. I find it one of the best tracks in Ace Combat 7, and perhaps from the whole franchise.
This is the theme of the most dangerous enemy you fight in Ace Combat 7, and one could argue, and in fact, I would argue that he is not only YOUR counterpart, but a deconstruction of the Ace Combat player character: an unstoppable juggernaut that strikes fear into the hearts of his enemies... they know it's over when he shows up.
Still requesting "Blue Skies (Infinity Remix)" and Sol Squadron. The latter is very similar to this track (for a good reason), and the former, IMO, is *the* best track the Ace Combat franchise has to offer.

It's interesting that you played AC7 after hearing this track and other late game ones, because it meant that every time the game pulled out one of its leitmotifs in the earlier missions, it was like a tease for you, in a way that it wouldn't be for players going in without having already heard the "final form" of those leitmotifs.

When you are asked for more songs from AC 7 and I think they are the ones I am going to mention, personally you have to listen to these 3 in this order (the order given by the game) 1. "Awakening" 2. "Alicorn" 3. "The Hero of Comberth Harbor" + "Singularity" (this last one is a closing), with this order when listening to them, I can say that you can build a story, give you an idea of what happens in the game plus the feelings and sensations at that point in the story.

AWACS Long Caster: Unidentified aircraft. Land your plane and surrender. Why do you feel the need to continue fighting on your own?
Mihaly: That's funny, it seems one your own pilots is also fighting alone.
Long Caster: He's not alone. Look around you.
Mihaly: ...I see. Perhaps it would've been best to entrust the future to pilots like that. Let me test him, then, to see if he's truly worthy.

Have you listened too "Alicorn" yet?
personally one of my favourites from the entire franchise. I like to think of it as the opposite of this one, archangel, instead of the honourable king of the sky you instead fight a twisted monster of the deep who, after being stuck at the bottom of the ocean for 2 years, has decided that the most logical course of action is to just nuke the capital of osea (the guys you play as in this game) taking 1 million lives and bringing about the salvation of 10 million lives.
Honestley it feels like im gushing about this wayyy too much but i just love the dlc so much, this track especially, the way the strings are timed to be in sync with the missile barrage its just all so cool.
all this being said the other 2 "Main" songs in this are called "Awakening" and the "Hero of comberth harbor" all these songs share the same lyrics "Awakening" Takes the form of a bombastic hunt with fantastic drums and a wonderful bass to boot. While "The hero of comberth harbor" is much more intense saying as the Alicorns crew are all dead set on shooting you down and carrying out the plan.
Oh and i said all that with out mentioning the main villain Captain Matias Torres who is one of if not the single best villain in all of ace combat if not video games as a whole, i may be overstating him but i just love it all so, so much.

A solemn yet intense backdrop to an inevitable confrontation building over the course of the game. The opening chant (with a rudimentary understanding of Latin) is almost like a prayer before this great duel in the skies occurs. Mihaly, TAC name Archange, is a man who once flew to protect his country as an infamous ace pilot, but now faces you as a fallen man whose wish to continue flying as King of the Heavens has fed into a more sinister cause that he has grown disenchanted with.

in the AC7 lore, this combat takes place after a complete wipe out of all orbiting satellites around the globe. The entire world is in an informational blackout where rumors have become rampant over what is going on in the war between Osea and Erusia.
you playing as Trigger (Three Strikes, and assumed to be known as Daredevil) and their squadron of operations, are cut off from higher up's contact after the fact, and can't coordinate where to land to rearm and refuel to continue operating.
So this detached operative detached from central HQ communications chooses to invade Shilage Castle, which is inside the former Kingdom of Shilage, and now former state from Erusia that in the middle of the satellite disruption proceeded to establish it's freedom of sovereignty from Erusea. And where Mihaly AKA Sol 1, the former king, with his "knighthood", the Sol squadron, are defending the area of any aggressors from the outside of the state.
After defeating most of Shilage's squad trying to capture the Shilage castle in order to resupply, Mihaly comes out, and battles you in a 1 vs 1 dogfight of the ages to defend this land.
There's been many who have assumed that the reference used here is that Mihaly, which can be taken as Archangel (Archange) Michael is going to battle and strike down the evil dareDEVIL from pillaging the land. This isn't Mihaly's theme or Trigger's theme, this is the theme of the Shilage citizens witnessing the future of their country being battled in the sky between their savior and their doom, personified as fighter jet planes.

The best part of this song is that the female vocals and the male vocals are practically music-fighting, and therefore it's like both vocals each represent their own pilot which captures the mano-a-mano imagery (and actual situation) happening.

Ah yes, the theme of your final battle against a bloodthirsty & insanely skilled old man who can't let go of his past & always wanting to chase for more glory, whether it's to prove his skill or the existence of his old crumbled former country. SO GOOD, both the song & mission.
If you are playing this mission on the harder difficulties, IMMEDIATELY dodge to the sides once the Gregorian chant stops unless you want a quick game over. Mihaly will not hesitate to quick snipe you out of the sky with the railgun on his X-02S. 😅

    I never noticed
Nearly the whole track is anticipation and build up, and the gameplay justifies that
In the game, Mihaly is using a railgun equipped craft, with a huge inventory of long and short range missiles. He will evade everything at a range, almost always he will be charging at you instead of you at him, it is a reactive battle. Staring down at him, waiting for his next move, until you can finally pin him into a turning fight, before he pulls away to fire the railgun beyond your reach

So what makes this song one of my favorites from the Ace Combat series is how the music tells the story of _your_ fight with Mihaly.
It starts with a declaration from the King of the Skies as he informs that you are not welcome in his kingdom. Then we transition two the titans of the sky circling each other. Both looking for the moment to strike. Then it comes. You suddenly turn your plane and throttle up to advance upon Mihaly. The engines whine as you push your craft faster and faster. But Mihaly turns and leads you into a chase. Explosions and gun fire fill the clouds as you attempt to corner the old ace with a curtain of lead. Yet he gracefully dips to and fro. As if your attacks were part of a aerial dance routine. In an instant however he is able to turn the tables. Breaking hard his plane rushes past until he is now chasing you. Unleashing his own attack it’s nowhere near as ferocious. Instead each shot has thought and care put behind them. Through a combination of skill, luck, and pure grit you manage to dodge each missile at the last moment. Contrasting Mihaly’s graceful dance with your perfect technical precision. Finally gaining some distance you turn to face your foe in a head on joust. Both of you pushing your craft to their limits. His rail gun heats up as your missiles gain their locks. Both strike out as you both pass... but it’s inconclusive.
And so this duel amongst the clouds begins anew...

You gotta love the moment this song gets to the 2:41 mark. Everything that happens in the game led to this moment.
The first time you hear about Mihaly is when he shoots down one of your wingmen off-cam. You hear the pilot screaming at you for support but she dies before you arrive.
Then you encounter him for the first time for real, and finally right up to the time he shoots down your company commander. After that, you face him for the last time in the skies above his home kingdom.
This moment is where the track screams "it's time to end this" after all that buildup.
