Pretty much. Best Boston album by non-Boston band. I also like Nothin to Lose. I can't imagine the sound if it were sang by Brad instead. And like Sailin Away too.
A billion thanks to Barry Goudreau for not putting people through waiting every EIGHT YEARS for something from Boston. Tom, the genius, never learned comprehended that time doesn't wait even for him. No pun to the song "LONG TIME".
This tune is really good but something is missing. Perhaps this is Boston Junior? It's almost like a little brother trying mimic or replicate his big brother? I think Brad Delp is one of the best male vocalist ever. Sib and Barry are fantastic, and amazing in their respective instruments. It just seems like they're trying to pick up where'Boston' hit the end of the road. RIP Brad Delp. You're tearfully missed
What people got used to was Tom's special guitar effects on Boston songs 🎵. People forget that Barry Goudreau played the lead "monster guitar 🎸 on "Long Time", "Let me take you home tonight" "Used to bad news" and he played SLIDE GUITAR 🎸 on "Don't be afraid" and Don't look back. In other words , Barry Goudreau was very much part of the Boston sound. He just wasn't narcissistic like Tom Scholz.
@@kurtisslystne5250 I'm glad Barry and the guys put this out in 1980. There was NO BOSTON for 6 yrs (because of Toms lawsuit battles)and I remember in high school the teens were pissed with Boston taking so long between albums. This was a relief in a way.
I recall when I first heard this song in the early 80’s, I thought it was a new Boston release. I was literally shocked when I learned it was Goudreau’s first solo album with the aid of Delp, Cosmo and Hashian. Needless to say, I bought the album and practically wore it out from massive rotation. There was a ton of talent in Goudreau’s band!
Tom wouldn't let them use Boston as their name court ordered,so guitar heros were big then hence self tilted so sales were low only a few who kept in the new, bought it
Brad Delp and Freddie Mercury for me are the best 2 rock vocalists ever. Really can't pick a favorite. Totally forgot about this song for 40 years until I just looked up what Barry Goudreau has been doing. I loved this song!
Driving around, listening to this today thinking to myself, wow, I think I can learn the rhythm to this!! As a strictly bar chord player, I picked up this jewel in about ten minutes. What a fantastic bunch of simple riffs. Love & own the lp, what a great track. Tom dropped the ball by not allowing Barry to contribute more to Boston. And much love to Brad, RIP.
How many other people heard this song in 1980 and thought OMG Boston three album is out only to find we would be waiting another 6 years for it ! Lol 😩⏳
Listening to this for the first time. Actually, the first time of anything by Delp outside of Boston. It's clear that he was the sound of Boston. Once you hear his voice you think it's Boston (or at least I did).
Dreams was in the top 100 ... I believe it was at no. #76 ... and had sold over 100,000 units with in 2 weeks ... Then Tom Scholz had CBS pull the plug on the album due to an advertisement that CBS put out ... or CBS would not see the 3rd Boston album ... also, "Mean Women Blues" was being played on blues radio
I think the album cracked the top 100 but the Dreams single just barely missed it. The album caused a rift with Barry and Tom since it was recorded to sound as close to a Boston album as possible, even using the same producer and engineer and promoted almost a Boston album. The label should have called this group "Bay Staters" or something. That would have been great lol
@@djdonald243 It does sound very radio typical but there's a million reasons why a single doesn't go #1. The fact that it's technically not a Boston release probably had a lot to do with its lower chart position, too.
This song brings back memories of listening to my favorite radio station, WCOZ in Boston. WCOZ was literally my life soundtrack from 1980-82. My junior high school cafeteria played this station over the sound system and my school bus driver had it on his racio all the time.
This song/album were never played or released where I live, not that I can remember. And I would have remembered, everybody was waiting for Boston 3. This would have been HUGE in my town if it had been played on radio. Never heard about it until TH-cam.
You never heard it because the record label pulled Barry’s albums off the racks and off the radio. Tom Scholz accused Barry of “copying the Boston Sound” and the label cow-towed to Scholz. That effectively derailed Barry’s solo career. You have 3/5ths of Boston here. The irony is, without Barry basically teaching Tom how to play rock guitar (he was a keyboard player) there wouldn’t be a “Boston Sound,” or even a “Boston.”
@larrypower8659 yeah if you listen to the demos before the first album you can hear that the guitar sound for boston is essentially Barry's tone and playing style. Everyone thinks tom scholz did it all himself...he just copied the licks barry did In his basement studio.
Every so often, I just have to pull up this song and listen to it. Brad Delp has been gone about 15 years now, but his voice will live on forever. Boston released their first album almost 48 years ago and it still sounds just as good today as it did back then.
This album never got $hit for marketing and thus only sold a few hundred thousand copies if I recall correctly. It's been such a long time. wink wink. It did get some radio play. 4/5 of Boston sounded pretty good to me. I never knew they made a video though. Nice find!
Just saw the comments from Barry that Scholz went out of his way make sure the record company pulled the plug on promoting this. If true, Scholz was a moron. By publicly getting behind this record it would have only helped to raise his own profile and that of the Boston brand. “If you like Barry’s record you haven’t heard anything yet - you are gonna love our next one.” Any idiot could have figured that one out.
