A billion thanks to Barry Goudreau for not putting people through waiting every EIGHT YEARS for something from Boston. Tom, the genius, never learned comprehended that time doesn't wait even for him. No pun to the song "LONG TIME".
Well said, Walter S. Not only did it take Tom forever to record an album, he was also extremely slow at writing songs. (He began writing for Boston's debut album back in 1968 and a couple of those early songs that were leftover were also used on "Don't Look Back".) Had he allowed Brad, and particularly Brad & Barry together, to write songs, we likely would have had a couple of more killer Boston albums rather than just three. By the time Tom got around to the 4th Boston album "Walk On" (18 years after the debut album), the Boston sound was long outdated and didn't fit in with the grunge era. Back then, most of those 70's bands hated the grueling pace the record companies put them through, which was a new album every 9 months. (Due in large part to Tom's successful lawsuits, it would soon become an album every 2 to 3 years.) Today, the successful bands are grateful that the record labels knew their business and pushed them so hard. The labels knew that rock music consisted of a series of 4 year trends, and they knew that a band that is hot today would often be irrelevant 4 years later. They also were aware that most of the good R&R songwriters have a prolific period where they can crank out the hits on demand, but usually this period is limited to just a few years. Think of all the great R&R bands from this period, such as Zeppelin, Rush, Styx, Boston, Heart, Kansas, Journey, REO, and Foreigner, who have established successful careers that still continue 50 years later thanks to the record company pushing them when they were "hot". Had Tom put his ego aside, listened to the record company, and allowed his talented band mates to do more, I'm certain that Boston would have likely had a couple of more big albums and would be in the R&R Hall of Fame (not that the R&RHoF means much these days)!
Pretty much. Best Boston album by non-Boston band. I also like Nothin to Lose. I can't imagine the sound if it were sang by Brad instead. And like Sailin Away too.
This song brings back memories of listening to my favorite radio station, WCOZ in Boston. WCOZ was literally my life soundtrack from 1980-82. My junior high school cafeteria played this station over the sound system and my school bus driver had it on his racio all the time.
Driving around, listening to this today thinking to myself, wow, I think I can learn the rhythm to this!! As a strictly bar chord player, I picked up this jewel in about ten minutes. What a fantastic bunch of simple riffs. Love & own the lp, what a great track. Tom dropped the ball by not allowing Barry to contribute more to Boston. And much love to Brad, RIP.

I recall when I first heard this song in the early 80’s, I thought it was a new Boston release. I was literally shocked when I learned it was Goudreau’s first solo album with the aid of Delp, Cosmo and Hashian. Needless to say, I bought the album and practically wore it out from massive rotation. There was a ton of talent in Goudreau’s band!
Tom wouldn't let them use Boston as their name court ordered,so guitar heros were big then hence self tilted so sales were low only a few who kept in the new, bought it
This tune is really good but something is missing. Perhaps this is Boston Junior? It's almost like a little brother trying mimic or replicate his big brother? I think Brad Delp is one of the best male vocalist ever. Sib and Barry are fantastic, and amazing in their respective instruments. It just seems like they're trying to pick up where'Boston' hit the end of the road. RIP Brad Delp. You're tearfully missed

I think the album cracked the top 100 but the Dreams single just barely missed it. The album caused a rift with Barry and Tom since it was recorded to sound as close to a Boston album as possible, even using the same producer and engineer and promoted almost a Boston album. The label should have called this group "Bay Staters" or something. That would have been great lol

This song/album were never played or released where I live, not that I can remember. And I would have remembered, everybody was waiting for Boston 3. This would have been HUGE in my town if it had been played on radio. Never heard about it until TH-cam.
You never heard it because the record label pulled Barry’s albums off the racks and off the radio. Tom Scholz accused Barry of “copying the Boston Sound” and the label cow-towed to Scholz. That effectively derailed Barry’s solo career. You have 3/5ths of Boston here. The irony is, without Barry basically teaching Tom how to play rock guitar (he was a keyboard player) there wouldn’t be a “Boston Sound,” or even a “Boston.”
@larrypower8659 yeah if you listen to the demos before the first album you can hear that the guitar sound for boston is essentially Barry's tone and playing style. Everyone thinks tom scholz did it all himself...he just copied the licks barry did In his basement studio.
Only missing one significant member, yet you KNOW who this is! :) Fun! This was much better than Orion The Hunter - which had it's moment's, but didn't quite capture the "formula". This reminds me of Side B of Don't Look Back that was reordered some time after Side A. This easily could have been on there. You gotta love some Boston!!
Sounds exactly like Boston (more like Don't Look Back since the debut had a lot of acoustic guitars). So that would mean The Outfield sounds like Boston ?????
YOU said EXACTLY what I was going to comment and you have a great ear. The intro chords and vocal melody line, without question, remind me as much of The Outfield as Boston. Bring the key up a step too and it has Tony Lewis written all over it as a song that would have worked perfectly on their "Bangin'" album. No disrespect to Barry and/or Brad because Brad, Tony and Ben Orr of the cars are my 3 favorite rock vocalists.
An underrated song and album, for sure. I love Tom, but it sure does seem like he could be a jackass - now I understand why everyone left the band. Many of these songs from this album should have been on the 3rd album.

Brad… your voice.. it cannot be forgotten. I hope there is a cool chick out there that digs you as hard as I do ❤
Happy heavenly birthday Bradley Edward Delp RIP
I love watching the original Boston minus Tom and Fran. I wish they would have stayed together. I saw the originally lineup three times and they were AWESOME! Dreams is one of my favorite songs. Barry was cheated out of watching his album climb the charts! I loved "Mean Woman Blues" also!
Ive heard it a few times here in Topeka Kansas on KDVV 100.3
@larrypower8659 yeah if you listen to the demos before the first album you can hear that the guitar sound for boston is essentially Barry's tone and playing style. Everyone thinks tom scholz did it all himself...he just copied the licks barry did In his basement studio.
Kickass, good stuff!
Wow, I didn’t know this existed. This would sound exactly like Boston if it was played through a rockman
If not for Delp's distinctive voice, this tune calls to mind 'The Outfield' as much as it does 'Boston'.
Sounds exactly like Boston (more like Don't Look Back since the debut had a lot of acoustic guitars). So that would mean The Outfield sounds like Boston ?????
@@edcollins9377 yes, The Outfield sounds like a minor league Boston
100% CORRECT 👍 👍
The voice, the vibe...takes me back to less cynical times.
This Song ! A Gem !
