How do you install the hub on a bike with the Purion display?

Scott, even we can understand you in Australia ... great job, thanks

Seems like Bosch is really making big investments to develop an experience and durability that will get more butts out of cars and on bikes. And maybe some type of ABS for street-focused eBikes is on the way with their recently announced joint venture with Magura? Super exciting to see big advancements on the horizon! What manufacturers currently produce bikes with the Smartphone hub?

I believe it's an upgrade on any Bosch system, but the only bikes I know that are coming with it installed are the Riese & Muller bikes in the states.
I got to try the ABS systems in Germany and they are great! Hopefully they'll be to the states soon!

I wanted to lease some bike and they ask me if i would want pinion or smarthub....!
First i did not know if this smarthub would contribute to the bike, after seeing this review im convinced it does...thanks..!

Curious how well this works in bright sunlight when you wear polarized sunglasses - normally my iPhone screen is hard to see with polarized lenses.

Michael Mingo it doesn’t offer any additional brightness unfortunately.

Many commuters are logging their rides and designating them as "Commute" using Strava. Currently, I use a Polar Chest strap sync'd to my phone using "Polar Beat" app. The app then sync's it's data directly to "Polar Flow". Polar Flow then syncs it's data to Strava, Relive, Apple Health, etc. I would have liked a demonstration of: "if"/what/how the App syncs it's data to other sources. I'm a Trek SuperCommuter8s owner and have been staying in contact with my Bosch Rep for availability as I would *DEFINITELY* like to upgrade from the Intuvia.

Jeff Koviack id love to do a video on that. What apps would you want to see? I’d probably do it as a comparing different eBike apps sort of format.

    • @jkoviack

Fly Rides Electric Bikes Currently, I only have to run Polar Beat on my phone. Polar beat than reports it’s data to “Polar Flow”. Polar Flow than reports to Strava and Relive.

I like how the smartphonehub offers a lot of features however there is room for improvement.
Emtb owners need cobi to support single trail maps or be operated as a minimised window while another app is used.
Another good option would be a mounting bracket that would keep it away from damaging on a crash such as below the handlebars or on tube

I have the Trek Allant +8S which came with the Smartphone hub. Still learning how it works. What is best way to see summaries of rides? It seems like I will need to sync it with another app. What are advantages of different apps that sync with it? I already use Wahoo on my Android Phone to log my spin classes but I don't think Wahoo works with the Cobi app. I have a Fitbit Versa smart watch but I don't think that syncs to anything except the fitbit app.

The Bosch Smartphone Hub is pretty sweet! Great for commuting. Lots of good stats. I like how you can choose different routes for your commute.

Hi Scott from Sydney Aust, its nice to see your roads are as crappy as ours.
Great video looking forward to your full test on your own bike.
Are you concerned if you crash a $1000 iphone being trashed or is there some kinda safety shell around the phone.

  • @busoni34
    @busoni34 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This video did not address the title: "Is it worth it?" All you did was review the features. I wish you had looked at the price of having this feature and compared that to the price of alternatives, like having the 7+s with an aftermarket smart phone mount.

  • @ruirodtube
    @ruirodtube 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The predecessor of the SmartphoneHub is the COBI.BIKE head unit. Both use the same software and have +/- the same features. The SmartphoneHub is better integrated however and disconnections are less likely. WATCH OUT FOR THE IPHONE 8 CASES - THEY HAVE A DEFECT AND THE IPHONE WON’T CHARGE. Buy the universal mount or the iPhone 6 mount instead.
The SmartphoneHub is an option available on the 2020 Riese & Muller bikes but you can’t combine it with the e-shifter of the Rohloff, which was the feature I most wanted, despite the expensive price! The e-shifter will only work with Intuvia or Kiox.

How hard is it to install yourself?
Or do you have to go to a Bosch authorized dealer?
I am a bike mechanic and if I can I like to do all the work I can on my own. I am really interested in installing and purchasing the new Bosch nyon

    Hello
    Congratulations on the review!
I have a Scott eRide Bosh with the Purion display.
Can I replace it with this Cobi.bike?
Do I have to buy additional cables or is there everything in the box?
    Thank you very much!

Great video ! Is there a conversion kit to go from a Bosch Purion display to the Smart Hub that you demo'd? I have a 2019 Trek Cross Zip Plus E- Assist - thx

Jim McCallum I don’t know that there is right now. I’d investigate on the cobi website. If there isn’t one I can only imagine it’s coming soon

Treks new "Allant" line are all coming with the SmartPhoneHub. I have been in contact with my Bosch rep about availability. He as assured me that the SuperCommuter8s will be compatible once these are available. It's reasonable to assume that the Cross Rip will also be compatible.

Ocie Gay, in the general settings you select upload to Strava. It asks your Strava username et password and at the end of the ride it uploads it to Strava without you doing anything

Nice review, I was looking for info about it.
However I think biking while listening music is quite dangerous since you may focus on the music and it can also prevent you from hearing other noises which is very important for me. Security first and entertainement later :D

    • @agoodboy2150
      @agoodboy2150 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I think listening to headphones in both ears even in cars is stupid along with having the music too loud because you can't hear the things going on around you. What I do when riding my electric skateboard is to use my AirPod pro earbuds with the transparent mode on. A lot more companies are switching to this setting so that you can hear what is going on near you while still enjoying music.

I love that the app seems really aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate, even while riding. Really happy to see this improvement all the way from the old Protour Colbi matchup. Spotify matchup makes this even cooler, it'd be annoying to have to jump to and from your music. Well done Bosch, great review Scott

I don’t recommend to by Cobi Bosch Kit for several reasons:
After 6 months of using the kit on Centurion E-MTB with Bosch engine, I wrote these feedback as Swiss citizen
with 4g+ network and always updates my apps.
1- Several times Cobi app didn’t sync the data with Strava after finish the tours.
usually my tours from 75 to 100KM not 1 and 5 km.
2- For the second time the universal Mount is broken so i can’t plug the usb to charge my phone.
i ask the support team at Bosch no clear answer even they don’t want to replace the second one.
3- You can’t see the old rides even the app don’t store your data and give you a graph, as usual the app don’t sync
so you will see only whom many km and time. while professional cyclist look for heart rate, cadence, elevations
list goes on. from here you know it is less than commercial kit.
4- Their is no possibilities to export your ride as .gpx file. ( this file is so important to you can use in in Ostrava, relive and many apps)
5- You cannot connect the app with Garmin connect. (auto sync)
6- Even you connect to samsung health and google fit, don’t expect to see your data there (only virtual connection with no data sync)
7- I contact the support teammate than 10 times, i only receive a meditation LaLa land answers. don’t receive any clear answer or any solution to any problems
8- the dealer and I wrote to Bosch to refund the kit as only used since 6 months. even they don’t answer.
